Tuesday's Political Agenda: EU Leaders' Video Conference, Government Session, and Błaszczak & Śliwka's Press Conference

At 10:00 AM in the Sejm, a press conference will be held by Mariusz Błaszczak, head of the PiS parliamentary club, and MP Andrzej Śliwka.

The Council of Ministers will convene at 12:00 PM. On the agenda is a draft bill on collective labor agreements and collective understandings, as well as two draft proposals submitted by the Ministry of Justice.

Today, a video conference of EU leaders will take place, the purpose of which will be to discuss Monday's meetings regarding Ukraine in Washington — announced Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, on social media.

Śliwka:

'One Could Say President Zelensky Brought Sponsors Along'

I remain quite calm about this, because I am fully aware that what we are seeing is an initial phase of these peace talks, and it's very good that they have started. It's also worth mentioning, as such statements are too infrequently heard in the media. Yesterday's meeting took place in a certain format, with representatives of the coalition of the willing – stated Andrzej Śliwka in a conversation with Marcin Fijołek on Polsat News' "Graffiti".

It's important to talk about what this coalition of the willing is. It was founded on the initiative of the Prime Minister of Great Britain, and in its original plan, it comprised those states that expressed their will and desire for their troops to potentially participate in Ukraine. Later – and it's also worth mentioning this – there was also talk about financial support, meaning one could say that President Zelensky took sponsors with him [to the White House] – continued the PiS politician.

I think that Poland, in terms of its support for Ukraine, has helped Ukraine enormously, and even in that initial, early stage, if it weren't for Poland's support, we would be in a completely different situation – he emphasized.

08:13

Poland 'Has Done Its Part' in This Area, Says Śliwka on Zelensky's Remarks

It's worth discussing what was conveyed. President Zelensky said that he came with a specific proposal for President Trump. This proposal was that Ukrainians would buy military equipment from Americans for nearly 100 billion dollars, in return for which they would receive security guarantees – stated Andrzej Śliwka on Polsat News' 'Graffiti.'

It seems to me that this also emerged from statements, as well as from commentators, that precisely those countries that flew with President Zelensky would be the ones that would subsidize or financially support Ukraine in the purchase of this military equipment. We need to state clearly: Poland has done its part in this regard – he continued.

08:15

Śliwka:

Trump Refuses to Speak with Tusk and Sikorski

One can say outright that they are practically treated as persona non grata. Donald Trump does not want to speak with both Tusk and Sikorski. As I mentioned, we discussed a meeting within a certain format, a coalition of the willing. President Nawrocki pursues an effective, calm, and consistent policy – stated Andrzej Śliwka on “Graffiti” Polsat News.

08:23

Śliwka:

President Nawrocki to Be the Only European Leader at the White House in Coming Weeks

"President Trump said that key decisions would be made over the next few weeks, so President Nawrocki, as the only leader from Europe, will be at the White House in the coming weeks and days, and will hold discussions," stated Andrzej Śliwka on Polsat News' "Graffiti".

"In the coming days, he is the only leader who will be at the White House, and that will be very good. This is the President's responsible policy," he continued.

08:24

Śliwka:

I have no doubt that President Nawrocki will not consent to sending Polish troops to Ukraine

I have no doubt whatsoever that President Nawrocki will not consent to sending Polish troops to Ukraine. As Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, he will make the ultimate decision in this regard. We have enormous needs in Poland, this must be stated clearly, and our security guarantees should focus on building the defensive potential and deterrence of the Polish army – stated Andrzej Śliwka on "Graffiti" Polsat News.

08:29

Śliwka:

Coalition Lacks Unified Stance on Sending Polish Troops to Ukraine

I know that within the coalition there isn't such a unified stance [on sending Polish troops to Ukraine]. I know that different views are emerging. Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz, as well as other ministers, are quite inconsistent in their views, and we know full well that Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz very often changes his mind. He has gotten us used to this, so fortunately, President Nawrocki serves as this safety buffer – stated Andrzej Śliwka in "Graffiti" on Polsat News.

"They Failed to Report Poland's Presence at Washington Talks" – Przydacz Points to Tusk and Sikorski

"It was a meeting of the coalition of the willing, including those willing to send troops to Ukraine, and the arrangements regarding Poland's presence were finalized on Saturday and Sunday. In this format, Prime Minister Tusk and Minister Sikorski conducted the discussions and made decisions. It was they who failed to report Poland's presence at the talks in Washington," said Marcin Przydacz on RMF FM's "Poranna Rozmowa."

08:46

Leśkiewicz:

Washington Mission Head Took No Steps for Polish Representative's Presence at Yesterday's Meeting

"Regarding the presence at yesterday's meeting in Washington, we have two positions. On the one hand, the President states that he will be at a meeting with Donald Trump on September 3rd, and we confirm that during discussions with President Donald Trump, the issue of how to conduct talks with Putin was strongly emphasized," said Rafał Leśkiewicz in an interview with Karol Surówka on PR1's "Sygnały dnia."

"However, the key discussions and talks regarding how this meeting in Washington was to unfold took place within the framework of the 'coalition of the willing' meetings on Saturday and Sunday. Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Minister Radosław Sikorski participated in these meetings. During these meetings, no interest was expressed for Poland's participation in the meeting organized by Donald Trump, which also included President Volodymyr Zelenskyy," stated the President's spokesperson.

"No interest was expressed for a Polish representative to participate. Moreover, our embassy, the head of the mission in Washington, also took no steps aimed at ensuring that a Polish representative would attend the meeting in Washington," he added.

08:48

Przydacz:

I'm Surprised Minister Sikorski Didn't See Fit for Direct Contact with Presidential Chancellery

– Is policy really decided between spokespeople...? Perhaps I would suggest to Mr. Wroński, the MFA spokesperson, that perhaps Minister Sikorski himself should be making calls – said Marcin Przydacz on RMF FM, when asked about contact between the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland (KPRP), the Chancellery of the Prime Minister (KPRM), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in the context of arrangements for Poland's presence at talks in Washington and reports that the President's spokesperson was not answering the phone.

– Minister Sikorski did not call me, nor do I know if Minister Sikorski called the President; I doubt it. I spoke with the MFA, with those individuals whom I consider substantively competent for such a discussion on security policy, and I naturally tried to establish certain issues as well – he continued.

– It's difficult for me to have complete information in a situation where neither the minister nor the prime minister are willing to make a phone call and inform about what the discussions entailed – he went on.

– I spoke here with our ambassador to NATO [...] Jacek Najder [...]; he served for me as, I would say, an intermediary [...]. I am a little surprised why Minister Sikorski, specifically, did not deem it appropriate to be in direct contact. Perhaps he is, I don't know, outside Warsaw; I have no idea – he concluded.

08:53

Przydacz on Absence from Washington Talks: 'I Don't Believe Poland Has Dropped Out of Any Game'

"We are not in a coalition of the willing; this discussion is ongoing and is also taking place in other forums. The President has been active here and will continue to be active, and we will also discuss matters important for Poland, concerning our security, very soon in Washington [...] I do not believe that Poland has dropped out of any game here," said Marcin Przydacz on RMF FM, when asked if he regretted Poland's absence from the Washington talks.

08:53

Leśkiewicz:

President Nawrocki Actively Works for Peace in Ukraine

– The presidential office, President Karol Nawrocki, is actively working for peace in Ukraine. He has been president for just over a dozen days; it is the 14th day of President Karol Nawrocki's term. In the meantime, while still president-elect, he first spoke with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. On July 31st, he specifically discussed the issue of peace in Ukraine and relations between Poland and Ukraine – said Rafał Leśkiewicz on PR1's "Sygnały dnia".

– He has spoken twice with President Donald Trump. He will meet with him shortly. And as early as the beginning of July, he also met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. So, he has undertaken a great many actions before taking office as President of the Republic of Poland, as well as since becoming head of state, in the context of regional security and peace in Ukraine – he continued.

09:02

Przydacz:

Ukraine Needs US Security Guarantees Backed by Troops, Not Just Paper

– First and foremost, [Ukraine] should receive American security guarantees, but not just in paper form – said Marcin Przydacz on RMF FM.

– These should be American and Western European [guarantees]. There's this 'coalition of the willing,' comprising Germans, French, and British – strong states with strong economies. Looking at the Germans, they especially bear responsibility here, because their policy of appeasing Vladimir Putin largely filled the coffers of the Russians – he continued, when asked if troops should be present.

– American troops are truly key here, because if the Russian Federation fears anyone, it's the American military – he went on.

– I believe that Vladimir Putin wants no Americans there, because he has the conviction that he can somehow manage Europe on his own. So, the more Americans in Europe, the better; the more we attract Americans, the better – although it's known that President Trump is not the most inclined to increase this presence – he added.

09:06

Leśkiewicz:

Washington Meeting Was Important, But No Key Decisions Made

– These talks are only just beginning. What happened yesterday in Washington, certainly an important meeting, is only the start of the entire process aiming to achieve lasting peace in Ukraine – said Rafał Leśkiewicz on “Sygnały dnia” (Signals of the Day) on Polish Radio One.

– The behind-the-scenes of Polish diplomacy and how we should, or will, be present during these talks should not be discussed too loudly just before these talks begin. Consultations and discussions are, of course, planned – he continued.

– As Ukraine's closest neighbor, also possessing the logistics hub in Jasionka, we will be present at every stage of key peace talks. And a key moment […] will be the President's meeting on September 3rd at the White House – he pointed out.

Referring back to yesterday's Washington meeting, he stated: – It was certainly important, but again – this is one of many meetings, the first meeting. No key, concrete decisions were made there. Key decisions will certainly be made after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's meeting with Putin, during trilateral talks involving President Donald Trump.

– We will be present at every stage, and Poland's voice will certainly be heard in these talks. Above all, Poland's interest […] will be strongly represented – he assured.

09:08

Przydacz on Szłapka's Conduct Before Tusk's Meeting with Nawrocki:

He Deemed Eating Cakes Much More Interesting Than Accompanying the Prime Minister.

– That Donald Tusk was left alone [just before the meeting with President Nawrocki] was already the decision of Mr. Donald Tusk and his spokesperson Adam Szłapka, Marcin Przydacz said on RMF FM.

– It was Mr. Adam Szłapka's decision that he deemed eating cakes in the Presidential Palace much more interesting than accompanying the Prime Minister in the White Hall of the Presidential Palace. I don't know the relationship between the gentlemen, but apparently, it was considered a correct course of action, he continued.

09:14

Leśkiewicz:

Government Shifting Responsibility to the President is Irresponsible and Harms Poland's Interests

– Such shifting of responsibility by government representatives onto President Karol Nawrocki is irresponsible. Both our friends and our enemies are observing this discussion, these squabbles provoked by the Polish government – said Rafał Leśkiewicz on PR1’s "Sygnały dnia".

As he stated: – Undoubtedly, a situation in which those in power say that the President should appear in Washington, shifting responsibility onto the President, does not serve Poland's interests.

– Therefore, let's not conduct foreign policy in shorts. Let's engage in serious foreign policy and discuss the future of Ukraine in a serious manner – he added.

09:23

Leśkiewicz:

If Poland Lacked a Representative in Washington, It's the Government's Failure to Ensure It

– We clearly emphasize that there are two formats of talks. First and foremost, there is a format in which representatives of the Polish government, Prime Minister Tusk and Minister Sikorski, participate, and this is the format where representatives of the “coalition of the willing” take part, and there the Polish position is articulated. And President Karol Nawrocki talks with the greatest world leader and the most important architect and actor of this peace process, namely Donald Trump – said Rafał Leśkiewicz on PR1’s “Sygnały dnia.”

– Therefore, if yesterday there was no Polish representative at this meeting organized by Donald Trump with the participation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, then the Polish government failed to ensure this, while discussing and settling details during Saturday and Sunday talks within the “coalition of the willing” – he stated.

09:24

Saryusz-Wolski:

I'm Glad Nawrocki Was Absent Yesterday. He'll Soon Have an Opportunity for a Much More Substantive Talk

I am very glad that Mr. President Nawrocki was not there, because he will soon have the opportunity for a much more substantive discussion, on September 3rd, with Mr. President Trump. However, the composition [of yesterday's meeting] was shaped by Kyiv and Berlin. So, the question is why Prime Minister Tusk was not there, but that's a question for him – stated Jacek Saryusz-Wolski on Radio Wnet, when asked about yesterday's summit in Washington.

Well, the rule is simple and also known from private life. Guests I invite are the ones who come to me. And by now, it can be said that it has become established that there are two formats. There are guests whom President Trump invites, and then in that group, Poland, in the person of President Karol Nawrocki, occupies a prominent place. And there are guests whose discussions with Washington are organized by Berlin, or Berlin, as recently, hand in hand with Kyiv. And then in those discussions, if he participates – and the question is in which carriage – the Prime Minister of the Polish government, Donald Tusk, takes part – he continued.

Cooperation in Poland's interest [with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs] will only just begin. One must clearly state that as of today, it does not exist, but it should. And I very much hope that Minister Sikorski, acting in Poland's well-understood interest, will want to cooperate with the President of the Republic of Poland, who, according to the Constitution, is the highest representative of Poland in foreign relations – Jacek Saryusz-Wolski said later in the conversation.

09:35

"To Break Free from the Shackles of the Green Deal": Saryusz-Wolski on Ways to Lower Energy Prices

Certainly, they could be lowered [electricity prices by 1/3] if we were to break free from the shackles of the “Green Deal.” As of today, the Green Deal is in place. Contrary to the assertion of the presidential candidate [...] Mr. Trzaskowski, the “Green Deal” is, indeed, a millstone dragging down the European economy, costing a great deal. There are timid attempts at minor corrections, but structurally, the European Union's power structure, despite the electoral verdict that challenged both the Green Deal policy and migration policy, continues to press on, ploughing ahead in both, in both these wrong directions. Thus, the solution is EU-wide: a withdrawal from this policy as extensive as possible – stated Jacek Saryusz-Wolski on “Poranek Wnet” on Radio WNET, when asked about Nawrocki's election promise to lower energy prices by 1/3.

Therefore, it is a senseless policy and suicidal for the economy. So, the solution lies in withdrawal. And this is a policy that should be pursued by Poland, yet it is not being pursued in this direction by Donald Tusk's government. However, Mr. President Nawrocki believes it should be, it should be pursued, meaning a withdrawal from the “Green Deal.” And secondly, there are unilateral actions that Poland could take independently, withdrawing from or reducing its participation in the Green Deal policy, but it's too early to speak of details – he continued.

The key to the decisions that will be made in this matter is President Karol Nawrocki's strong, internal conviction and determination, confirmed yesterday at a meeting with advisors, to act in Poland's best understood interest in this regard. And please allow me to answer this question at this level of generality – concluded Jacek Saryusz-Wolski.

Tusk's Double Engagement: Government Spokesperson Details PM's Agenda

Today, Prime Minister Donald Tusk will participate in a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing at 12:00 PM, and in a meeting in the European Council format at 1:00 PM – Adam Szłapka wrote on social media.

09:40

"I Disagree with that Assessment": Saryusz-Wolski on Poland's Position in International Politics

I disagree with that assessment, with this downplaying of Poland's significance. Firstly, it's simply untrue. Poland, objectively and regardless of who is in power, is a crucial state for determining European peace and war today. Of course, this can be utilized better or worse. Secondly, indeed, in the era of President Donald Trump, the personal aspect of international politics is highly visible, and that's a fact. One must take it into account, and precisely here, Poland's advantage is President Karol Nawrocki's leadership – stated Jacek Saryusz-Wolski during "Poranek Wnet" on Radio WNET, when asked about the words of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bartoszewski: "Poland is not such a large country."

However, our public debate and media dedicate excessive attention to the meetings themselves, and insufficient attention to the substance of what truly lies behind them. And sometimes a great deal is hidden, while at other times very little. We must get accustomed to this new style of international politics today, whether conducted in groups or individually, and in a 'star-shaped' arrangement; and the orchestrator of the Western world, whether Europeans like it or not, is Washington, it is President Trump – he continued.

– And in this situation, we should draw conclusions. Firstly, that on matters existential for Poland, namely security, we are united and act beyond divisions. And secondly, that for these fundamental interests of Poland, we should put forward delegations and individuals who can achieve the most for Poland – Jacek Saryusz-Wolski further stated.

It's like debating, during Poland's regaining of independence after World War I, whether Paderewski and Dmowski should go for talks in Paris. No, the person who can do the most for Poland should go. And today, that person is President Karol Nawrocki, and the 'constellations' or groups he appears in are secondary. Experience teaches that the greatest effectiveness lies in [...] a bilateral arrangement with President Trump – he added.

09:41

Leśkiewicz:

Nawrocki Not Opposed to Ukraine's NATO Bid, But Sees No Immediate Place

– He stated under what circumstances this membership would be possible. President Karol Nawrocki did not present a categorical position that would exclude Ukraine from either NATO or the European Union. He clearly stated that at this moment, given the geopolitical situation we are in, there is no place for Ukraine in NATO. However, he did not rule it out – said Rafał Leśkiewicz on PR1's „Sygnały dnia”.

– This was clearly emphasized during both the debates held throughout the election campaign and in many other statements by the president-elect, now President Karol Nawrocki. Thus, there is no situation where President Karol Nawrocki would rule out Ukraine's NATO membership. He simply said that he does not currently envision such membership – stated the president's spokesperson.

– In a broader context, it clearly emerged that he is currently opposed to Ukraine's NATO membership at this very moment. One of the extremely important issues that could influence a change in President Nawrocki's stance is the resolution of matters concerning the victims of the Volhynia genocide and the commencement of search and exhumation work – he indicated.

– Let's not propagate a false narrative suggesting that President Karol Nawrocki is an opponent of Ukraine's NATO membership. He is not an opponent of Ukraine's NATO membership. Currently, he does not see a place for Ukraine in NATO, and he by no means questions Ukraine's future presence in the North Atlantic Alliance – he emphasized.

09:54

Leśkiewicz:

Nawrocki Will Never Meet Putin

“Karol Nawrocki will never meet with Putin. Putin is a war criminal. I would just like to remind you that Karol Nawrocki, when he was still the President of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), was placed on the list of individuals wanted by the authorities of the Russian Federation for demolishing Soviet propaganda structures in Poland. […] Absolutely, such a meeting will never take place,” – said Rafał Leśkiewicz on “Sygnały dnia” (Signals of the Day) on PR1.

10:35

Tusk Ignored by Western European Partners, While Nawrocki Safeguards Polish Interests Through Trump Contacts – Błaszczak

– Yesterday's events clearly show that Donald Tusk, the head of the Polish government, is being ignored by our Western European partners. Yesterday in Washington, there was the so-called coalition of the willing, in which Poland was represented by Donald Tusk. I would like to remind you that just last Sunday, Donald Tusk's deputy, Radosław Sikorski, within the framework of the coalition of the willing, was defining the position regarding the talks, which, as I understand it, were supposed to take place the following day in Washington. Donald Tusk did not go to these talks; he did not participate in them – said Mariusz Błaszczak at a press conference.

– Moreover, the ignoring of Donald Tusk is not something that emerged yesterday. As a symbol, we can cite the visit of Western European leaders and Donald Tusk to Kyiv, when Donald Tusk travelled not in the carriage where the decision-makers were, but in a different one. It became common knowledge that it was a second-class carriage – he continued.

– President Karol Nawrocki, thanks to his contacts with President Donald Trump, safeguards Polish interests and Poland's position on the international stage, the proof of which is the visit that will take place in two weeks. A bilateral visit, two-way talks between the Polish President and the US President – he stated.

10:40

"It's Revenge": Błaszczak on Cenckiewicz's Denied Security Clearance

– They imagined that Rafał Trzaskowski would be president, someone who would be compliant with Donald Tusk's actions. Instead, Karol Nawrocki became president by the will of the nation. A president who is active, who insists that Polish interests be pursued. President Nawrocki guards Poland, and this is why there is such fury, and why this revenge is directed against the head of the National Security Bureau (BBN), Professor Cenckiewicz. This is revenge. The manifestation of this revenge is an attack prepared, probably somewhere in the quiet of Donald Tusk's offices, but executed by Jarosław Stróżyk – stated Mariusz Błaszczak at a PiS press conference, when asked about the reasons for the conflict between the government and the president regarding the denial of a security clearance to the head of the BBN.

– There is no doubt that this man is responsible for the attack; this man, instead of focusing on the counterintelligence protection of the Polish military, is engaged in Donald Tusk's brand of politics. He should resign, immediately. If Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, to whom Jarosław Stróżyk is subordinate, is truly serious – I have my doubts, but we are checking – if he is serious about wanting to build good relations with President Karol Nawrocki's camp, then we say: we call your bluff! Let Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz submit a motion to Donald Tusk for the dismissal of Jarosław Stróżyk – he continued.

– Jarosław Stróżyk, incidentally, besides being the head of the Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW), was also the chairman of that pseudo-commission. He holds a position at the War Studies University (ASzWoj), and reportedly also at another university. Therefore, he is a person who is not engaged in the fundamental task for which he was appointed, namely, the counterintelligence protection of the Polish military. We must put an end to this pathology. How to end it? Precisely in this way – concluded Mariusz Błaszczak.

10:54

Instead of Seeking Cooperation, the Government Declares War on the Presidential Palace," Says Śliwka on the Cenckiewicz Case

– It's clear that recently, the government's actions can be described as thuggish towards state institutions, constitutional bodies such as the BBN (National Security Bureau). How else can you describe a situation where we have a Provincial Administrative Court ruling that explicitly states that the decision made by Mr. Stróżyk, which was upheld by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, has been overturned as non-compliant with applicable regulations. [...] From a legal perspective, Professor Sławomir Cenckiewicz holds a legal, valid security clearance, said Andrzej Śliwka at a press conference.

– So, the action being taken by the current ruling team is de facto aimed at ensuring that [...] the BBN is excluded from the decision-making process concerning security architecture. This is an absolutely harmful action. [...] This ruling team is preventing Professor Cenckiewicz from reviewing classified materials, he stated.

– We are dealing with a situation where, in a difficult geopolitical context, [...] the government, instead of seeking common ground for cooperation, is declaring war on the Presidential Palace. And these words about the will for cooperation, in reality, have nothing to do with the facts, he assessed.

12:25

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

PM Tusk Represents Poland in 'Coalition of the Willing' Talks, Where Our Nation Plays a Crucial Role

– As we commence this Council of Ministers meeting, Prime Minister Tusk is representing our country in the discussions of the 'coalition of the willing' – a format established a few months ago, comprising over 30 states – where Poland plays a very important role concerning support and infrastructural security – said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz before the government session.

– There is broad understanding here of the actions undertaken by Poland, actions in which, should such an eventuality arise, Poland, on the territory of the Republic, together with its allies, will participate – he continued.

– Shortly thereafter, an informal session and an online meeting connecting with the leaders of the European Council and other heads of government of states within the structures of the European Union. These two meetings today are crucial for information following yesterday's events in Washington and pivotal for the upcoming days of meetings preceding, we hope, a longed-for, just, and lasting peace – he added.

12:37

Collective Bargaining Agreements and Harsher Penalties for Attacks on Emergency Services: Kosiniak-Kamysz Outlines Government Agenda

– What's on the government meeting agenda today, a few words on the most important points. We will start with collective bargaining agreements, a bill prepared by Minister Dziemianowicz-Bąk, a very important topic related to employee-employer relations – said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz before the government meeting.

– Two bills from the Minister of Justice; Minister Żurek is introducing them, but they are also a continuation and show the continuity of what Minister Bodnar was doing. The first concerns the toughening of penalties for crimes, for despicable acts committed against rescuers, firefighters, police officers, and people assisting in saving human health and life – he continued.

– The third bill we will address today concerns the Code of Petty Offenses […]. We are dealing with the burning of meadows, often involving dangerous behaviors that threaten the spread of fire to forests, potentially igniting a gigantic blaze. […]. We propose increasing fines from 5,000 to 30,000 and changes to the schedule of fines – he continued.

Tusk Tweets After Video Conference: "We All Confirmed the Need for Further Support for Ukraine"

The leaders of Canada, Japan, Turkey, New Zealand, and European states very realistically assessed the outcomes of the meeting in Alaska. We all confirmed the need for further support for Ukraine in the war with Russia. A good introduction to the European Council that is just beginning – wrote Prime Minister Donald Tusk on social media.

14:50

Tusk After European Council:

Realistic Assessment of President Trump's Efforts.

"The European Council has concluded. Everyone wants peace, no one wants Ukraine's surrender, plus a realistic assessment of President Trump's efforts to end the war," Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on platform X.

15:07

Szłapka:

It's Important to Solidify Understanding of What the 'Coalition of the Willing' Is

A lot of incorrect information is circulating in the media regarding this topic. The 'Coalition of the Willing' is a broad format of European and non-European countries that support Ukraine. For instance, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia also participate in the 'Coalition of the Willing'. It's important that the message about what the 'Coalition of the Willing' truly is becomes established, because errors are sometimes made in this regard – stated Adma Szłapka at a press briefing.

Government Spokesperson: Border Controls 'Working As Expected,' Provides New Data

– The number of people subjected to checks at the border with Germany and Lithuania since the introduction of temporary controls is 818,776. The number of people arrested for aiding and abetting: 17, which means these controls are working as expected – said Adam Szłapka at a press conference.

Mr. Prime Minister, just out of human curiosity, where are those vacations? Will you tell us? – wrote Andrzej Śliwka on social media.

Szłapka on Washington Talks:

This is Certainly Not a Meeting of the Coalition of the Willing.

"Yesterday's meeting in Washington took place in exactly the same format as previous calls, whether Wednesday's or Saturday's with Donald Trump, in which the Polish side was represented by President Nawrocki," Adam Szłapka said at a press conference, when asked about "the absence of the Polish leader in Washington."

"Of course, there's no doubt that it would be better for a Polish representative to be there, but that's how it played out; it is certainly not a meeting of the coalition of the willing, as the President's Chancellery sometimes tries to convince us," he continued.

15:32

Szłapka:

Poland Cannot Have Two Foreign Policies

Poland cannot have two foreign policies. Poland must have one foreign policy, and within this single foreign policy, the government always prepares the official position. The Chancellery of the President received the government's position for this meeting, and we were in contact – stated Adam Szłapka at a press briefing.

What's more, after this meeting, the next day, at the Prime Minister's request, a meeting took place between President Nawrocki and Prime Minister Tusk, where they also discussed that this is how tradition looks, and that this aspect of these meetings, if it simply turns out this way, functions better. It is a long-standing tradition that in Polish-American relations, the president takes the leading or greater part of the responsibility. In that case, we will simply work to provide the official position, Poland's position, so that the president can represent it – he continued.

15:37

President Nawrocki’s Spokesperson Responds to Czaputowicz’s Remarks:

Atmosphere of Call with US President Was Very Good.

Contrary to popular belief, Mr. Jacek Czaputowicz did not participate in any of President Karol Nawrocki’s telephone conversations with US President Donald Trump or European leaders, – Rafał Leśkiewicz wrote on social media.

I assure you that the atmosphere of the conversation with the US president was very good. A visit by Karol Nawrocki to the White House is scheduled for September 3, – the president’s spokesperson noted.

15:44

President Signs Order to Convene Cabinet Council

"President Karol Nawrocki, acting pursuant to Article 141, paragraph 1 of the Constitution, today signed an order to convene the Cabinet Council for August 27, 2025, at 09:00. I have forwarded the President's order to the Chancellery of the Prime Minister," Zbigniew Bogucki wrote on X.

As emphasized by the head of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland (KPRP), the agenda will include a discussion of the state budget and the public finance situation, the progress and plans of the Council of Ministers concerning the implementation of development investments, as well as government-planned actions aimed at protecting Polish agriculture and Polish agricultural production from the consequences of the influx of agricultural products from outside the EU.

15:52

Szłapka:

Yesterday's Meeting Followed Same Format as President Nawrocki's Previous Engagements

– Poland is, was, and was meant to be represented – and indeed participated – in meetings of European leaders with President Trump, and this was the understanding after this entire week, by President Karol Nawrocki, of course, after consultations with the government. These are the facts, – said Adam Szłapka at a press conference.

– The exact same group of participants who took part in the call on Wednesday and Saturday with President Trump attended yesterday's meeting [in Washington], – he stated.

– From the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, all information was conveyed, all notes were conveyed. Why the Chancellery of the President perhaps did not get more actively involved in this – that is a question for representatives of the Chancellery of the President, – he pointed out.

– However, with absolute certainty – and these are the facts – Monday's meeting was not a 'coalition of the willing' meeting. It was a meeting in the exact same format in which President Nawrocki decided to participate on Wednesday and Saturday, – he reiterated.

– If one decides to take responsibility for such an area on behalf of Poland [...], then one must bear that responsibility with all its consequences. It's not enough just to announce participation in a very important meeting; one must then also actively advocate for this format, – he added.

Trump, Not Zelensky, Extends White House Invitations

– I think this is obvious and should be clearly stated: invitations to the White House are extended by President Trump or the currently incumbent US President. If anyone tries to convince someone that an invitation is sent by another president, in this case, President Volodymyr Zelensky, then they still need to polish up their knowledge of international politics – said Adam Szłapka at a press conference.

Tusk:

'Let's Give the President and His Chancellery Some Time' – On State Institutions' Cooperation, Patience, and Understanding

"Let's give the president and his chancellery some time. Internationally, Poland requires unified action and cooperation from all state institutions, and cooperation requires mutual patience and understanding. The first hurdles are over" – Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on X.

‘From What I Know, Someone Simply Wanted to Retrieve the Appropriate Seals.’ Szłapka on the KRS

– As far as I know, someone simply wanted to retrieve the appropriate seals [at the KRS] from spokesperson Schab, and they have the right to do so, because a change has occurred there – said Adam Szłapka in an interview with Marcin Fijołek on “Gość Wydarzeń” (Guest of Events) on Polsat News.

– PiS MPs are very adept at spreading disinformation, and TV Republika, which likely reported it live, probably is too. But I wouldn't attach too much importance to that – he added.

Szłapka:

Either Inexperienced Presidential Aides, or Trump Deemed a Polish Representative Unnecessary

– Yesterday's meeting in Washington took place in precisely the same format of a call with Donald Trump as on Wednesday. Therefore, if it is indeed the case that there is an established practice, a tradition, that the President bears greater responsibility for representing Polish interests [...] in Polish-American relations, then such responsibility also comes with consequences, – said Adam Szłapka on Polsat News' "Gość Wydarzeń."

Asked why then President Karol Nawrocki was not invited to the meeting, he replied: – Either the still incomplete experience of the President's aides – because the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) was active here, trying to convey all information – or for some reason the White House, Donald Trump, decided that a representative of Poland was not needed. But in such a situation, one must actively seek inclusion.

Czarnek on the KRS Situation: 'They're Testing How Society and the Opposition Will React When They Truly Barge In.'

– In our view, this is a test. They are testing what will happen if they truly make their move. Consequently, today they sent out a judge from Suwałki who requested the keys to his former office, and an alarm was raised – rightly so – Przemysław Czarnek said in an interview with Danuta Holecka on the "Gość Dzisiaj" (Today's Guest) program on TV Republika.

– I believe this was intended for Mr. Żurek to test how society would react, how the opposition would react, when they truly barge into the National Council of the Judiciary. And it seems the signal is very good; that is, our friends, Minister Kowalski and MP Gosek, appeared immediately – he continued.

20:44

Szłapka:

'I Don't Understand the President's Office Shifting Blame and Spreading Misinformation'

– We, as the government and the Prime Minister's Office, acted very responsibly throughout this entire past week. If we received information that there was a suggestion for President Nawrocki to represent [Poland] on the call [with Donald Trump] – okay. The President received the government's position, information was exchanged, a meeting was requested, and a meeting took place – Adam Szłapka said on "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News.

– It seemed this entire week was going quite well. I completely fail to understand why, at some point, the President's Office started to shift responsibility [...] and, furthermore, misinform – he assessed.

Czarnek to Tusk and Żurek: 'Don't Scheme, Boys, It Won't End Well for You. We Can Rally Crowds at the National Council of the Judiciary'

– I was on my way […] but I was turned back because it turned out there was no entry, it was only testing. But […] Adam Borowski […] who, after all, defended the KRS (National Council of the Judiciary) during the first entry attempt, even turned back from a pilgrimage to gather a command center on Marszałkowska. That command center was indeed supposed to assemble, and people across Poland had been informed about the necessity of coming to Warsaw – said Przemysław Czarnek on TV Republika.

– We can send a message from TV Republika here to Mr. Waldemar Żurek and to Mr. Donald Tusk: don't scheme, boys, because it won't end well for you. We are truly capable of rallying crowds of people at the KRS within merely tens of minutes, and within a few hours for the prospect of even larger crowds – he continued.

From Tomorrow, PM Will Have Three More Days with Family

– The Prime Minister participated in two important meetings today. He represented Poland. His participation was remote. Yesterday, we were preparing both the Council of Ministers meeting and my press conference today after the Council of Ministers, as well as the Prime Minister’s meetings… We were working. I spoke with the Prime Minister multiple times, both yesterday and today. […] Yes, of course [in direct contact], we were in constant contact, – said Adam Szłapka on Polsat News’s “Gość Wydarzeń” (Guest of Events), when asked about suggestions from Law and Justice (PiS) MPs that the head of government was on holiday.

– From tomorrow, the Prime Minister will have exactly three more days with his family. But we will probably remain in contact as a matter of course, – he added.

21:00

says Czarnek about the Washington meeting:

It's very good that President Nawrocki wasn't there,

– If I were the one to advise the President whether he should be at a table where it is agreed that European countries will lend Ukraine 100 billion dollars so that it can buy equipment from the United States, then I don't know if I would advise the President to be at such a table – said Przemysław Czarnek on TV Republika.

– If I were to advise the President whether he should be at a table where the backers of Zelensky sit – Zelensky who does not respect Poland and has repeatedly expressed this – then I don't know if I would advise the President to be there – he continued.

– If I were to be an advisor to the President, tasked with advising the President whether he should be at a table where a coalition of the willing to send their countries' troops to Ukraine gathers [...] that this was not discussed, is known now after the meeting, but was not known before the meeting – he went on to say.

– President Nawrocki is not signing up for the coalition of the willing to send troops to Ukraine, and for this reason, it's very good that he wasn't there [in Washington] – he added.

21:06

Czarnek:

Trump Knows Exactly Who Tusk Is and Doesn't Want Him Around

– Why wasn't Tusk there, who, in turn, signed up for the coalition of the willing? […] Why wasn't he in Washington? For two reasons. Firstly, he couldn't have been there because Trump knows exactly who Tusk is. Let's recall Tusk's words from early spring or late winter this year: "500 million Europeans will not ask 300 million Americans to defend us against 140 million Russians" – said Przemysław Czarnek on TV Republika.

– So Trump certainly doesn't want to see Tusk around, even setting aside Tusk's earlier insults towards Donald Trump. After all, this man staked everything on one card, convinced that Kamala Harris, not Donald Trump, would win, and convinced that Rafał Trzaskowski, not Karol Nawrocki, would win – he continued.

– Why didn't Tusk go, for the second reason? And that's because Merz doesn't see him there, Merz, the German Chancellor, as is known, greatly dislikes Tusk – he continued.

21:21

Czarnek:

We Don't Owe Ukraine Anything More, Ukraine Owes Us

– Without the actions of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Minister Zbigniew Rau, and President Andrzej Duda, independent Ukraine would not exist today; it wouldn't have existed for a long time. It was Poland that ensured this aid was finally provided to Ukraine, and we don't have more debts to Ukraine; it's Ukraine that has debts to us. However, Mr. Zelensky's behavior is what it is, – Przemysław Czarnek said on TV Republika.

21:26

Czarnek:

I expect Nawrocki's September 3 visit to strengthen the alliance with the USA, not just militarily, but also economically

– I expect that, following Karol Nawrocki's election on June 1, this September 3 visit will, in any case, strengthen the alliance with the United States – not only the military one, but also the economic one, because both the United States and Poland have an interest in this – said Przemysław Czarnek on TV Republika.

– The United States should be a strategic ally for us not only regarding national defense and security – that's first and foremost – but also regarding the economy. We have a lot to offer here, and the United States has a lot to offer, for example, in nuclear energy – he continued.

– A close economic alliance with the United States is in our interest. I am convinced that President Karol Nawrocki will also speak about this on September 3 at the White House – he went on.

21:31

Czarnek:

Wind Turbines Won't Save You a Single Zloty on Electricity. True Savings Lie in a Close US Energy Alliance

– All these wind turbine laws, all of it, is nothing. It’s just deceiving and pulling the wool over the eyes of Poles, suggesting that electricity will get cheaper through this wind turbine law. Nothing, ladies and gentlemen, will get cheaper; you will not pay a single zloty less from any wind turbine – said Przemysław Czarnek on TV Republika.

– We will all pay less if we enter into a close energy alliance with the United States and establish significant business ventures, particularly in nuclear energy – he continued.

21:35

Czarnek:

I Am Convinced the Day Is Fast Approaching When PSL Politicians Will Say 'Enough'

– I hope, and I am even convinced, that the day is truly fast approaching when Mr. Piotr Zgorzelski, Deputy Speaker of the Sejm, whom I deeply respect, as well as Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and other PSL politicians, will finally say: stop, enough of this, we will no longer trample the banner of the Polish People's Party, and we will start acting for Poland – that is, in a coalition with people who will form a coalition for Poland, and not a coalition of German interests, as is currently the case under Tusk's government – said Przemysław Czarnek on TV Republika.
