Friday's Political Agenda: KRS Election, Cryptocurrencies, and the Attempt to Appoint an IPN President in the Sejm

The Sejm will resume its session at 9:00 AM – this is the final day of the sitting.

At this hour, a two-hour voting block will commence, during which, among other things, judges – members of the National Council of the Judiciary – will be elected, and an attempt will be made to appoint the President of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN). MPs will also vote on another version of the draft bill concerning cryptocurrencies.

Just before the voting block, there will be a vote on the parliamentary oath of MP Bożena Borowiec, who will replace the late Łukasz Litewka in the Sejm.

As the Ministry of Culture informs, Piotr Górajec, the current Deputy Director, will assume the position of acting Director of the Museum of the Palace of King John III Sobieski in Wilanów starting May 15th of this year.

Siemoniak on the court's pace regarding Ziobro:

I am disappointed.

- Yes, I am disappointed [with the court's pace regarding Zbigniew Ziobro] and I am expressing it. Because I believe that in such matters, the prosecution did everything correctly, and the court was supposed to deal with the matter in February. If courts react this way to individuals suspected of serious crimes... The court certainly had the right to say, "No, we do not agree to the European Arrest Warrant, we believe this material is not suitable for an EAW," but the fact that this case has been ongoing since February, and a hearing date has been set for September, is simply unheard of - stated Tomasz Siemoniak on TVN24's "One on One" program.

07:54

Siemoniak:

We are assured that the American presence in Poland will not decrease

- We are assured that this American presence in Poland will not decrease. It is not permanent in terms of numbers, after all. I have no doubts about the US guarantees towards Poland. I am saying this based on my contacts with my counterparts, with the head of the CIA, with the CIA itself. The quality of our cooperation, the way the American army approaches Europe and Poland, and also President Trump always speaks well of Poland very consistently - stated Tomasz Siemoniak in "Jeden na jeden" on TVN24.

08:04

Szłapka:

American Troops in Poland Are and Will Remain

- American troops in Poland are and will remain. I think this is the most important information, and all of us, regardless of political affiliation, should care that there are troops in Europe and in Poland, primarily in Poland, but also in Europe - stated Adam Szłapka on RMF FM.

08:05

Szłapka on US Troops:

The Assurance Received by Nawrocki Is Binding and Important for Us.

- Of course, work is underway, as far as we know, in the USA and the Department of War on the reorganization of American troops in Europe. The assurance received by President Nawrocki, stating that this will not involve Poland, is binding and important for us. We also have such an assurance from the Supreme Commander of NATO forces in Europe - stated Adam Szłapka on RMF FM.

08:10

Szłapka on Ziobro:

He's Fleeing Like a Rat.

- He's fleeing [Zbigniew Ziobro], he's fleeing like a rat. He's afraid of the Polish justice system, he's afraid to stand with an open visor and defend himself - stated Adam Szłapka on RMF FM.

08:13

Szłapka Asked About Potential Justice Minister Change:

No Plans for Government Reconstruction.

- There are no plans for a government reconstruction. None whatsoever [when asked about a potential change at the position of Minister of Justice] - stated Adam Szłapka on RMF FM.

08:16

Szłapka announces the date of the new Hungarian Prime Minister's visit:

He will also meet with the president.

- "He will also meet with the president." Szłapka announces the date of the new Hungarian Prime Minister's visit - stated Adam Szłapka on RMF FM.

08:27

Szłapka on Romanowski:

I Think He's in Hungary.

- I think [Marcin Romanowski is] in Hungary. That's what I think, but I don't have confirmation. Perhaps the prosecutor's office knows, perhaps the services know. I don't have that information. I think he's in Hungary - stated Adam Szłapka on RMF FM.

08:38

Bosak on Kosiniak-Kamysz's words:

Attempts to gloss over reality and deny it.

- What we can see for now is confirmation that it's a fact, meaning, contrary to yesterday's attempts to gloss over reality and deny it, which the head of the Ministry of National Defence seems to have engaged in, it's evident that the Americans have likely decided, contrary to earlier publications and stated announcements, if I understand correctly, because we have information chaos, and the Americans should dispel this chaos. However, it's clear they have a mess on their side, at least a communication mess, and if this is what the Pentagon spokesperson confirms, it means the withdrawal of some troops from Poland - stated Krzysztof Bosak on PR3.

- This is, if I understand the situation correctly, a departure from the earlier announcement that there would be no withdrawal - he continued.

08:46

Bosak on US Politics:

A Lot of Internal Chaos and Reduced Credibility.

- I think it primarily means that there is a lot of internal chaos and reduced credibility on the part of our most important ally, because if you say you won't do something, then you do it and don't communicate it, surprising everyone, and it takes two days of media leaks to figure out what's even going on, then that doesn't build credibility - stated Krzysztof Bosak on PR3.

- It seems to me that, contrary to the wishful thinking, Americans are simply starting to implement a policy that, incidentally, President Trump talked a lot about, and the strategic establishment, generals, NATO commands might not plan for it, but if the Secretary of War issues an order, they are there to carry it out - he continued.

09:01

Bosak on the Zbigniew Ziobro Case:

It's an Abuse to Attempt to Use Arrest Where It's Unjustified.

- I believe that if such a phenomenon exists, as you, Mr. Editor, are talking about, then in my opinion, the ruling party is to blame themselves, because I believe that the rulers attempted to abuse power and the law, which is typical for them. They haven't done it just once; they also did it in the matter of taking over the prosecutor's office. In my opinion, a large portion of state apparatus employees simply do not want to participate in this because they fear co-responsibility for it - stated Krzysztof Bosak on PR3.

- In my opinion, it is an abuse to attempt to use arrest where it is unjustified. That is, an attempt to arrest active politicians, members of parliament, representatives of the opposition, who may have broken the law, which has not yet been proven in court. For now, we have accusations against them, unproven in court - he continued.

- To be clear, I absolutely do not justify them. I believe the case of the Justice Fund was at least unethical, perhaps contrary to the law, but this is unproven. However, this is classic white-collar crime, and in my opinion, arrest is for gangsters who pose a physical threat to representatives of the rule of law, police officers, judges, prosecutors, or citizens. Whereas officials and members of parliament, and I say this as Deputy Speaker, who are not gangsters, do not belong to any mafia, and do not pose a threat to others. They should be held accountable, without a doubt, if they have broken the law - emphasized the Deputy Speaker of the Sejm.

- However, the attempt to abuse arrest against them has paralyzed the entire accountability process, because it has given them a pretext to apply for international protection - he added.

Sejm to Not Attempt to Appoint Head of IPN Today. Czarzasty Announces

- After consulting with the Convention of Seniors, I have decided to remove item 40 from the agenda of the current session - the appointment of the President of the IPN - informed Włodzimierz Czarzasty during the Sejm session.

09:31

Czarnek Speaks in the Sejm, Czarzasty Responds - The Applause Fades:

The Imaginary Reality Indeed Escalates.

- This imaginary reality is indeed escalating. One of you, Mr. Rafał yesterday, decided to register a union which he called a marriage. From this very place, 30 years ago, Professor Winczorek said – matrimonium is a union of a man and a woman, and you are destroying the state, but only a dozen or so more months, you will all be held accountable for this, Mr. Prime Minister – stated Przemysław Czarnek in the Sejm.

- I kindly inform, not maliciously, the potential Prime Minister, that the applause is fading – replied Włodzimierz Czarzasty.

"With One Bill, You Want to Shut Down an Entire Branch of the Economy." Domański on PiS's "Scale of Hypocrisy"

- The President, while criticizing our bill, said it was over-regulated, too long, and then after 5 months, he submitted a project that is actually longer, which limits penalties, the KNF's ability to act, and the ability to protect Poles. But PiS showed the true scale of hypocrisy with its bill, which directly contradicts what you were saying just a month ago. A month ago, you said our project would finish off Polish entrepreneurs, and this time, with one bill, you want to shut down an entire branch of the economy, 10 years in prison, and goodbye. This is your project, and this is the Himalayas of hypocrisy - stated Andrzej Domański in the Sejm.

"Zero Tolerance for Aggression": Kierwiński on Arrests Following Teenagers' Beating on Bridge

- Zero tolerance for aggression. A few days ago, three teenagers, Ukrainian citizens, were brutally beaten on the Świętokrzyski Bridge in Warsaw. In connection with the assault, the Police have detained 5 individuals, Polish citizens aged 15-18. Further procedural activities are being conducted - informed Marcin Kierwiński on social media.

11:29

Czarzasty quotes Błaszczak, the PiS club leader responds:

I'm doing what your boss told me, if I understood him correctly.

- I spoke about your statements with your boss, MP Błaszczak. He told me: listen, sir, listen, don't worry about them, do your thing, there's no problem at all, don't take it into account. I'm doing what your boss told me, if I understood him correctly - said Włodzimierz Czarzasty during a Sejm session.

- As usual, you misunderstood. You're from the previous era, simply put. From communism - replied Mariusz Błaszczak.

PiS MP Criticizes Coalition Over Swift KRS Vote, Quotes Zimoch:

An Election Made in Violation of the Law is Invalid.

- By electing 15 members of the National Council of the Judiciary, the ruling majority violated Article 11d, paragraphs 5 in conjunction with 4 of the KRS Act - Paweł Jabłoński wrote on social media.

- According to this provision, the Sejm elects KRS members for a joint four-year term at the NEAREST Sejm session after the committee has established the list of 15 candidates - this means it CANNOT BE DONE AT THE SAME SESSION at which the candidates were selected by the committee - the PiS MP emphasized.

- The vote in the Justice and Human Rights Committee on this matter took place on Tuesday – during the CURRENT Sejm session (there was also no vote on potentially shortening this period – which would not be possible anyway, as the deadline stems from the act, not the Sejm's regulations - he added.

As Jabłoński wrote: - An election of KRS members made in violation of the law is INVALID – it has no legal effect, and the entire procedure should start anew.

11:39

Żurek:

We will try to expedite the hearing date in the Ziobro case

- We will try to expedite the date of this hearing [in the case of Zbigniew Ziobro], but the extradition request, as prosecutors assured me yesterday, is ready - stated Waldemar Żurek in a conversation with journalists in the Sejm.

13:27

Tusk After a Briefing with the Border Guard:

In the First Quarter, No One Managed to Illegally Cross the Polish-Belarusian Border.

- I have this note with me to share just a few figures with you, because they speak more than the most solemn speeches. In 2023, 12,000 people illegally crossed the border with Belarus, because this is Poland’s most critical border. In 2023, 12,000 people illegally. Today, we can solemnly announce, and I will do so on behalf of General [Name], your people primarily, that we have achieved what could only be dreamed of. In the first quarter of 2026, no one has managed to illegally cross the border between Poland and Belarus – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk after a briefing with the Border Guard.

- Illegal crossings – zero in the first quarter of this year. And this is not because the pressure on the border has decreased; it's worth realizing that in 2023, when 12,000 people illegally crossed the border, there were 26,000 attempts to cross, and unfortunately, every second one was successful then. In 2025, when our barrier at the border, increasingly well-trained officers, and a determined, prepared Border Guard with full protection began these actions very seriously, in 2025, there were almost 30,000 attempts, more than in 2023 – he continued.

- But out of nearly 30,000 attempts, there were 1,700 successful crossings. Month after month, thanks to the actions of the Border Guard, of course also the army, the police, thanks to legal decisions, thanks to major investments – it's electronics, a serious barrier at last, not just symbolic, it's modern techniques, it's also intelligence information – all of this has allowed us to build a system that will make Poland's eastern border the best-guarded external border of the EU – he emphasized.

13:43

Tusk Announces Additional Funds for the Border Guard:

I Take Great Satisfaction Here.

- As you know, the veto of this SAFE bill did not, fortunately, stop the funds from coming to Poland, but it made it very difficult to allocate part of these funds specifically for border protection and for the Border Guard. I want to inform you, and I take great satisfaction in doing so, that in two hours, Minister Kierwiński, along with Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz, will announce a decision that will allow for the utilization of additional funds on a scale, more or less, that we had also planned for the Border Guard and border protection - stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk after a briefing with the Border Guard.

13:52

Tusk on US Troops:

I Have Been Assured These Decisions Are Logistical,

- In connection with signals about potential reductions from our American ally, we are in constant contact. Personally, Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz and I are in touch with the American commander of NATO troops, American troops, and the NATO Secretary General. I want to reassure everyone – we have been expecting certain decisions regarding Europe for many months. Our most important, closest ally, the USA, has actually been announcing a certain adjustment in its policy for years, greater interest in other theaters, and these appeals, to which Poland responded immediately and is responding effectively today, are for Europe to take greater responsibility for its security. Poland is an absolutely leading country here, and nothing will change in this regard - stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk after a briefing with the Border Guard.

- I have received assurances, and this is also important to me, that these decisions are logistical in nature and they do not directly affect deterrence capabilities and our security regarding Polish-American cooperation. Poland is and will remain the most stable, most local, and effective ally of both the USA and other NATO countries, and I am convinced that today and in the future, we will also be able to count on reciprocity in this matter - he continued.

15:11

Kosiniak-Kamysz on Expanding the Non-Military Defence Preparation Program:

We Will Gain a Security Umbrella.

- I have made the decision to expand the non-military defence preparation program, which will serve to finance activities related to the needs of the Border Guard, police, Government Protection Service (SOP), and the Ministry of Infrastructure. The non-military defence preparation program already exists and is functioning, but we will broaden the scope of possibilities to include the needs of the aforementioned formations. This guarantees us that we will gain a security umbrella; responsibility for security is not just about having the best army in the world, which the Polish Army is. It is the responsibility of all of us for building the strength and structure of the state - stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference.

- In preparing this program, we will amend a regulation, which should be ready by May 22nd, expanding the catalog of actions enabling us to finance all tasks within a specified timeframe - he continued.

15:37

Kosiniak-Kamysz on US soldiers and Trump's declaration:

Poland can gain – not rotational, but permanent presence.

- Poland will certainly not lose [US soldiers]. I think it can gain, not a rotational, but a permanent presence. We have the strongest possible declaration, given by the US President to the President of the Republic of Poland - stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference.

16:29

"Mr. Kierwiński and Mr. Żurek, You Won't Escape This'. Czarnek Tweets About 'Cryptodictatorship on the Attack'

- Cryptodictatorship on the attack. Police enter the apartment of the CEO of TV Republika without providing a reason and handcuff a defenseless woman. Mr. Kierwiński and Mr. Żurek, you won't escape this - Przemysław Czarnek wrote on social media.

17:27

Opposition Unity Must Be the Answer. Kaczynski Tweets About 'Intimidation and Destruction of Media'

- They fear the truth the most. They systematically strike at the pillars of democracy: freedom and independence. Today, the media exposing the hypocrisy and lies of their government have been targeted. They want to intimidate. They want to destroy. Opposition unity must be the answer - Jarosław Kaczyński wrote on social media.

20:10

Leśkiewicz:

When Power Lays Hands on the Media (Yet Again), Democracy Ends

- The measure of a mature democracy is respect for journalists, freedom of speech, and liberty of expression. When power lays hands on the media (yet again), democracy ends - wrote Rafał Leśkiewicz on social media.

20:13

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

Trump's Declarations to Nawrocki Are the Highest, Binding Direction of Action

- We have no information suggesting any change in plans or the strategic Polish-American alliance. President Trump's declarations made to President Nawrocki are the highest, binding vector of action, a direction of action - stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

20:22

Kosiniak-Kamysz on meeting with, among others, the top US soldier:

Offensive

- We have confirmation that General Kukuła will meet with General Grynkewich on Tuesday, and on Wednesday we will have a meeting with the top US soldier, General Caine. Minister Tomczyk and Minister Zalewski have been in the USA since the beginning of the week. So, this is also our offensive and also cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prime Minister Sikorski is using his channels, the President, the Prime Minister – we are all participating in this process. This is a strategically important matter for us - stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach" (Facts After Facts).

20:26

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

There is no security without the USA today

- There is no security without the USA today. One can like one politician more or less, one can agree with them or not. The vital interest, especially of the eastern flank and all of Europe, is that Americans are here. We need to weigh our words - stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

20:26

Kierwiński:

Services Under the Ministry of the Interior and Administration Do Not Conduct Operations Against Any Media

- The services subordinate to the Ministry of the Interior and Administration do not conduct operations against any media. They react to signals of potential danger and threats to life. They are not responsible for false reports, nor for those who wish to use this as a weapon in political struggle - wrote Marcin Kierwiński on social media.

20:28

Kosiniak-Kamysz on US Policy:

No Disappointment with Poland.

- There is no disappointment with Poland, because Poland fulfills all the conditions that a good, ironclad, model ally should meet. Expenditures, investments, shifting that lever so that security is paramount, that's okay. Certainly, the American side's expectations of Europe were greater regarding the Middle East, and that's where it remains - stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in "Fakty po faktach" on TVN24.

20:30

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

No NATO Without the USA

- There is no NATO without the USA. I also want to state this clearly and unequivocally. If anyone imagines, and will try to argue here with theories that NATO can exist without the USA, it cannot - stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach" (Facts After Facts).
