Tusk:

I'll Do Everything to Unite Us on Security, Like 105 Years Ago

Today, August 15th, American-Russian talks on war and peace will also begin there in Ukraine. There's probably no better day for everyone without exception in Europe and the world to remember that nothing is impossible. The Miracle on the Vistula was a miracle of heroism, courage, faith in one's own strength, and the unity of the Polish nation. Poles simply didn't know, no one told them, that the Russian army was invincible – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the GROM Military Unit.

“I would like all our partners in the world, in Europe, in NATO to remember August 15th”

Today, we hear remarks that support for fighting Ukraine makes no great sense, because after all, you can't win against Russia. I would like all our partners in the world, in Europe, in NATO to remember August 15th, to remember that in the conditions we have to live in – you work in these conditions, sometimes fight directly, every day. That in this reality we are in, strength matters, the conviction that one can win; in the modern world, only the strong are respected. Poland, also thanks to you, is a strong state today – he continued.

“On security matters, Polish politicians are and must be united”

We have these three pillars: responsible politics – Poland does not seek an enemy, no unnecessary risks; Poland is supported by the NATO alliance, in the EU; we cooperate well with most of our neighbors, and this responsible policy allows us to believe that there will be no direct threat. Responsible politics is one of these pillars. The second pillar, just like 105 years ago, is that on security matters – and we also owe this to you, GROM members – Polish politicians are and must be united, just as the nation was united then and is united today – said the head of government.

“I'll do everything for us to be united on security matters, just like 105 years ago”

I can promise that I will do everything, because someone has to instill this principle in everyone in Polish public life; I will do everything so that on matters of security, international politics, defense of our borders, when it is necessary, we are united, just like 105 years ago – Tusk emphasized.

“The third pillar, the most important one, is you”

The third pillar, the most important one, is you. One can talk about security, wise politics, also participate in a parade, one can speak. But in the end, all of that would be empty gestures and words if it weren't for your presence and the fact that you can always be counted on – he added.

"I Will Strive for This." Nawrocki: Poland Aims to Be NATO's Strongest Army in Europe, Not the Third, in Short Order

"We should swiftly become not the third, but the strongest army of the NATO alliance in Europe, and I will strive for this as President of Poland in the coming years. The lesson of the victory from 105 years ago tells us that we won thanks to unity, thanks to community," stated President Karol Nawrocki during the August 15th commemorations.

"This was thanks not only to the unity of all political parties and circles of 1920, coalesced in the national defense government, but also to the fact that Polish peasants stood up to fight the Bolsheviks, and alongside them Polish students, scouts, and patriots; professional soldiers who had already secured independence in 1918 and fought in 1920; and alongside them volunteers, young people, with love for Poland and freedom in their hearts. This is a lesson we all must heed today," he continued.

Nawrocki:

Security Cannot Be a Subject of Political Dispute. As President, I Will Not Allow It, Because We Must Ensure Safety for All.

Indeed, security cannot be the subject of political dispute. Never. And I will not allow this as President of the Republic of Poland, because we must ensure security for everyone, and it is provided by soldiers who also hold different political views and make different choices at the ballot box. Only unity and community give us the strength to build our system of resilience and security – stated President Karol Nawrocki during the August 15th celebrations.

That is why we must, together with the government, with the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, focus on the strategic, fundamental documents of the national security strategy, and I deeply believe that the only emotion present in the new national security strategy and its implementing documents will be the emotion of Polish raison d'état, a clear declaration of defense of every centimeter and every piece of Polish land, because Poland is one, and the line of the Vistula is not its border – he continued.

In the national security strategy, we must also take into account social expectations and the desire for Polish citizens to feel complete security for years and decades to come, for whose security Polish soldiers serve, after all – said the president.

President Proposes Cross-Party Commitment to Prime Minister

I will consistently work to build around the Security Constitution of the Republic of Poland. Yes, I will implement my plan; I will strive for this, and already today I encourage the Prime Minister that we sign a cross-party commitment between the president and the prime minister. I have great hope that for every subsequent president and every subsequent prime minister, the Security Constitution of the Republic of Poland will provide, for years, and perhaps for decades, the sense that the development of our defense system is moving in one direction, despite global military developments. Regarding allied tasks, the unwavering focus on the expansion of our Armed Forces, and the modernization of the Polish Armed Forces, we must all be united, not only for years, but for decades. The Polish Armed Forces cannot operate in the sprints of parliamentary, or even presidential, elections. This must be the bedrock for the development of our Republic of Poland – stated President Karol Nawrocki during the August 15th commemorations.

Nawrocki:

Russia Is Not Invincible

Russia is not invincible, and the heroes of 1920 said so, and I want our officers and soldiers to hear this today. Yes, Russia is not invincible. It lost to Japan at the beginning of the 20th century. It was decisively defeated by Poles in 1920, and today, for over 3 years, it has been bogged down after its attack on Ukraine, thanks to allied support and the solidarity of free nations, including also, and at some moments primarily, Poland – stated President Karol Nawrocki during the August 15th celebrations.

"Polish Security Demands This Today." Nawrocki: "It Must Happen As Soon As Possible"

Unequivocally, Honorable Prime Minister, distinguished guests, I will demand an end to discussions and a decision to allocate 5% of Polish GDP to defense. This must happen, and it must happen as soon as possible. Polish security demands this today — stated President Karol Nawrocki during the August 15th celebrations.

"We Must Have More Polish Soldiers": Nawrocki Envisions a 300,000, Even Half-Million Strong Army

I am very pleased that my postulate for at least a 300,000-strong Polish army was not met with negation, but rather prompted higher proposals. I am, of course, ready to commit to our goal of a half-million-strong army if we are ready for it. Yes, we must have more and more Polish soldiers – stated President Karol Nawrocki during the August 15th celebrations.
