Political Week Ahead: Duda in China, Tusk at EU Summit, Committee on Wosi and Szłapka's Immunity, Senate on Postal Voting

Polish politics in the coming days will focus on President Duda's visit to China, as well as the Sejm's session starting mid-week, during which a decision may be made to lift Michał Woś's immunity. The Senate will also convene this week, and an extraordinary committee will address Lewica's bill on abortion law.

Duda in China. This coming week, President Andrzej Duda will continue his visit to the USA, where he will hold talks with, among others, Chinese President Xi Jinping. As announced by the head of state, economic issues and peace in Ukraine will be among the topics of discussion.

Decisions on Lewica's Future. "The National Council of the Together Party has mandated the party leaders to urgently meet with the authorities of New Lewica and has given them a mandate to discuss the future of the parliamentary club. Together is conditioning further cooperation within the Coalition Club of Lewica on the results of these talks," the statement informed.

Committee on Abortion. On Tuesday, an extraordinary parliamentary committee will consider the bill submitted by Lewica to amend the Penal Code – in practice, this is a proposal for partial depenalization and decriminalization of acts related to pregnancy termination, as well as the complete exclusion of criminal liability for pregnancy termination up to the 12th week with the woman's consent, and the exclusion of criminal liability for pregnancy termination with the woman's consent in cases of severe, irreversible fetal impairment or incurable fetal disease.

Committee on Wosi and Szłapka's Immunity. On Wednesday, the Sejm's Committee on Rules of Procedure, Parliamentary Acts, and Immunity will provide an opinion on Adam Szłapka's request to waive his immunity and will also consider the National Prosecutor's request for consent to prosecute Michał Woś.

Sejm Session. The current agenda for the Sejm session beginning on Wednesday does not yet include political bills – but it is not ruled out that MPs will address the aforementioned request to lift Michał Woś's immunity. Before the elections, Marshal Hołownia suggested that this matter would be concluded by the end of June.

Senate on Postal Voting. On Wednesday and Thursday, the 14th Senate session will take place. It is planned to consider the amendment to the electoral code, enabling postal voting in presidential, Sejm and Senate, and European Parliament elections for all voters in the country and abroad.

European Council. On Thursday and Friday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk will participate in the European Council summit in Brussels, where discussions on the appointment of EU positions will continue.
