Sasin Reiterates Offer to Kosiniak-Kamysz:

This Would Be a Coalition Good for Poland.
- This is an absolutely catastrophic result for Third Way, below 7%. I recall that just three days ago Szymon Hołownia said he expected a result between 10 and 14%, and he dropped below 7. This truly shows the scale of this party's downfall, and I think if it continues like this, in the next Polish parliamentary elections, Third Way will not cross the threshold. Meaning, today it already isn't crossing it, because today the threshold for a coalition is 8%, so today it is no longer crossing it, and if it continues like this, I think it will fall below 5% - said Jacek Sasin in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program "Gość Radia Zet". - One could say, it's the last call for Kosiniak-Kamysz, he might still turn back from this path. Remaining in this coalition clearly shows that this is the death of Third Way, and it's already a permanent one. I think that the offer we, Law and Justice, formulated after the parliamentary elections, meaning Kosiniak as Prime Minister of the so-called coalition of Polish affairs, could still be valid - he continued. - This would be a coalition good for Poland, because today it is evident that Civic Platform and Donald Tusk are leading Poland in a very bad direction, and turning back from this path today would be good for Poland, and such a compromise, a historic compromise, a historic coalition with Third Way, Law and Justice, perhaps Confederation [...] that could be an answer to what is happening in Poland today - he went on to say.

08:04

Biejat:

Time for Serious Discussions and Decisions on What's Next. The Left Needs to Show How it Differs from Civic Platform
- For us, now is the time for very serious discussions and serious decisions about what's next, because I have no doubt that the left has the potential to convince more voters, and we haven't utilized that potential. We haven't reached voters with our program, and we haven't convinced young people, we haven't convinced enough of our voters to go to the polls - said Magdalena Biejat in Polsat News. - I believe that everyone on the left should now take responsibility for these results and consider what to do to help the left regain its rightful place. In my opinion, what we need today is, above all, to show how we differ from our coalition partners, to show how the left differs, especially from Civic Platform, and we have plenty to show. And a left that will differ from other parties, which will present a clear, unambiguous voice, a voice that supports workers, that supports people who need support, a voice that is pro-social and pro-democratic – that is the kind of left that will be able to regain and win back support - she continued.

08:06

Biejat:

There's a Problem Showing Voters That the Left's Voice is Distinct from Other Democratic Parties
- We need a new opening and, above all, to show, because it seems to me that this is also not a matter of narrative, because the program we went into the elections with, the program for Europe, the program for Poland in Europe, was in my opinion a good program - said Magdalena Biejat in an interview with Marcin Fijołek on Polsat News' "Graffiti". - It's not a matter of that, it's a problem of showing voters that we are ready to implement this program, that this voice, which is the voice of the left, is a voice distinct from other parties on the democratic side - she continued.

08:11

Biejat on the Confederation's Result:

Of Course It Hurts Me. It's Terrible News for Polish Democracy.
- Of course [the Confederation's result] hurts me, I won't hide it. It is also terrible news for Polish democracy, because the Confederation represents those forces that contest Europe in a negative, destructive way, forces that are incapable of proposing anything concrete, only capable of negation - said Magdalena Biejat in Polsat News.

Official EU Parliament Election Results Are In: KO's Lead Narrower Than Exit Polls Suggested

The National Electoral Commission (PKW) has announced the official results of the European Parliament elections. According to these figures, the Civic Coalition's (KO) lead over the Law and Justice party (PiS) is only 0.9 percentage points, a significantly smaller margin than the over 4 percentage points indicated by exit poll research.

KO - 37.06%

PiS - 36.16%

Konfederacja - 12.08%

Trzecia Droga - 6.91%

Lewica - 6.3%

08:22

Brudziński:

Europe's 'King' Spoke of a Knockout for PiS. It Turned Out We Practically Drew
- We certainly have reasons for satisfaction. How could it be otherwise. You, the editor, don't remember what your colleagues, I'm not talking about editorial staff, professional commentators, were saying even at 9:30 PM, what triumphalism was on the airwaves of various stations, what a knockout for PiS Donald Tusk, Europe's 'King', was proclaiming, and it turned out we practically drew - stated Joachim Brudziński on RMF FM.

08:22

Biejat on the border situation:

It was only a matter of time before someone gave one of these desperate people a knife.
- We on the left have always said that the Polish border should be a safe place for everyone, no one should die there. For me personally, it is obvious that sooner or later such a tragedy had to happen, because unfortunately, successive governments allow the escalation of violence at the border. And we have a situation where successive migrants arriving at the Polish-Belarusian border find themselves trapped between Belarusian services and our military, being pushed across the border a dozen or several dozen times as part of push-backs, because once they are pushed back to the Belarusian border, they won't return to Minsk, they won't fly back home, because Belarusian services won't let them through - said Magdalena Biejat on Polsat News. - Consequently, it was only a matter of time before someone gave one of these desperate people a knife. And today, it is necessary that these people who are aggressive are, of course, restrained in an appropriate and adequate manner, but also that measures are applied that will finally reduce the tension at the border - she continued.

08:25

Brudziński on Arłukowicz:

He Achieved an Excellent Result.

- I must admit and express my appreciation for Bartosz Arłukowicz's result. He truly achieved an excellent result, and there's no need to beat around the bush about it. However, should I congratulate Tusk? Let Kosiniak-Kamysz and Hołownia congratulate him. He swallowed them - stated Joachim Brudziński on RMF FM.

08:29

Brudziński:

Hołownia and Kosiniak-Kamysz Would Not Cross Electoral Threshold in National Parliamentary Elections

- Today, Hołownia and Kosiniak-Kamysz would not cross the electoral threshold in national parliamentary elections. They are even below 7% support. And as a coalition, they need 8% - stated Joachim Brudziński on RMF FM.

08:35

Brudziński:

PE Election Results Recalculated - December 13th Coalition Parties Have Fewer Than 230 Seats in Parliament

- Today, with this alleged success of his, Tusk has lost his majority in the Polish parliament as a coalition partner. The results of all parties forming the December 13th coalition have been recalculated, and they have fewer than 230 seats in parliament - stated Joachim Brudziński on RMF FM.

08:36

Sikorski:

PiS Lost Because It's an Evidently Anti-European Party. Poles Opted for an Ambitious EU
- PiS lost – and frankly, it should have lost more than it did – because it is an evidently anti-European party that incites Poles against the European Union, and Poles feel that in such dangerous times, it is better to be part of a powerful community together with our Western allies – stated Radosław Sikorski in an interview with Renata Grochal on the program 'Bez uników' (No Evasion) on PR3. - Europeans, Poles, demand that the EU pursue ambitious goals, such as healthcare and defense, while PiS wants to reduce the EU to a free trade zone. Poles have opted for an ambitious EU – he assessed.

08:39

Biejat on the Left's Presidential Candidate:

I Am Always Ready to Support the Left in Any Way Possible, But We Will Make the Decision Together.
- I am always ready to support the left in any way possible, but who will be our candidate, I think a female candidate, knowing the left, we will all make that decision together, collectively - said Magdalena Biejat in Polsat News when asked about a potential presidential bid.

08:39

Sikorski:

Poland's Representation in the EPP Will Be Significantly Stronger Than Before
- The election result is good for our agency in the EU. Not only did Civic Coalition win in Poland, but the European People's Party, of which we are a member, won across the EU. And within this EPP, Poland's representation will be significantly stronger than before. In the outgoing term, we had 15 mandates; now we have 21. We will be the second-largest national delegation in the ruling European party. We should have more to say - said Radosław Sikorski on the program “Bez uników” (No Evasion) on PR3.

08:41

Brudziński Bets on Tusk Running for President

- After being trounced by the late Lech Kaczyński in 2005, he never let go of his ambition to become president. I think Tusk [will be a presidential candidate] - stated Joachim Brudziński on RMF FM.

08:56

Deputy Defence Minister from 3D Attacks Tusk:

It's an Absolute Absurdity to Develop a New Concept Over a Weekend.
I am against any changes regarding the rules of using weapons. I am against a situation where we would shoot and kill immigrants, a situation where we would change the nature of this operation, which is taking place at the border, from a police operation to a military one. This is an obvious absurdity, a very harmful thing. I do not agree with such ideas presented by Konfederacja – stated Paweł Zalewski on RMF FM.

It is an absolute absurdity to develop some new concept over a weekend. I am in favour of maintaining what is happening at the border today, i.e., a political operation. The goal is to prevent immigrants from entering, not to shoot at them – added the Deputy Minister of National Defence.

If someone imagines that our task should be shooting at immigrants, as Konfederacja wants, then they actually want war with Belarus – he noted.

08:59

Sikorski Asked if He Aspires to Commissioner Post: I Like My Job, I'm Optimally Utilized Right Now
- Treaties stipulate that oversight of military operations – the EU has been conducting military operations for many years, please remember this – falls under the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Meanwhile, Europeans are demanding a stronger defense union – Radosław Sikorski stated in the program “Bez uników” on PR3. - The President can construct a commissioner's portfolio for someone who will be a commissioner for defense industry, but also for cybersecurity, and civil defense. It will be an interesting position, but Poland is also looking at other alternatives – he continued, when asked if Poland should strive for a defense commissioner portfolio. When asked if he himself would aspire to the position of commissioner, or if he remains the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he replied: - I like my job and I believe that I am optimally utilized right now.

09:11

Sikorski:

If Poland's judiciary worked faster, Braun would likely already be in jail for his antisemitic, hooligan antics
- Unfortunately, we also have the decision of our compatriots to send Mr. Braun to the EU, who, if Poland's judiciary worked faster, would probably already be in jail for those antisemitic, hooligan antics. I worry about what kind of impression he will make there, because such behavior, which is unacceptable in Poland, would be an image disaster for our country in Brussels if it were to occur – said Radosław Sikorski on the PR3 program "Bez uników".

09:19

Sikorski:

The Electorate Demands Accountability for PiS's Theft. Civic Coalition Has Determination, Perhaps Allies Were Less Categorical
- Absolutely not, but I interpret it as the electorate demanding accountability for PiS-style thievery. We showed that we have this determination, and perhaps our allies were less categorical and perhaps they paid the price for it - said Radosław Sikorski in the program “Bez uników” on PR3, when asked if Civic Coalition is “eating its appetizers”.

09:40

Zgorzelski:

Every Election is Different, There's No Way to Compare Results
- This [Third Way's result in the European elections] is already history. We are writing the future. PSL was, is, and will be. All those who wrote PSL off were greatly disappointed, and most of them are no longer around – said Piotr Zgorzelski on "Gość Radia ZET". - I am not distancing myself [from Poland 2050] in any way. We are one political project that restored hope to Poles and democracy to Poland on October 15th – he continued. - Every election is different. There is no possibility whatsoever of applying a comparative matrix – he stated, when asked about the Third Way's result in the parliamentary elections.

09:45

Zgorzelski Responds to Sasin:

We're Not Going on a Date with a Vampire.
- There is only one answer: we are not going on a date with a vampire. Please look historically at how PiS's coalition partners and allies end up. Where is Lepper today? [...] Where is Jarosław Gowin today? What about Solidarna Polska? Probably half of them will have serious problems. Is this the path Mr. Sasin is proposing to us? - said Piotr Zgorzelski on "Gość Radia ZET", when asked about Jacek Sasin's proposal.

09:47

Kierwiński:

The Series of Civic Coalition Victories Begins

- This is a victory. For the first time in 10 years, we have won an election against PiS, there is no doubt that PiS has lost this election. At that time, incidentally, those were also European elections, which we won 1:1 against PiS, so a new series is beginning, I hope a very, very long one. A series of Civic Coalition victories - stated Marcin Kierwiński in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on Radio Zet.

09:55

Kierwiński:

If anyone were to destroy unity on the democratic side, voters would not forgive them

- We agreed on this with Poles on October 15th, and if anyone were to destroy unity on the democratic side, voters would simply not forgive them - stated Marcin Kierwiński on Radio Zet.

09:56

Zgorzelski:

Kosiniak-Kamysz is the Best Minister of Defense Poland Has Had Since 1989
- Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz did not hide anything. Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz is the best Minister of National Defence that Poland has had since 1989 - said Piotr Zgorzelski on "Gość Radia ZET".

09:56

Kierwiński on Kosiniak-Kamysz: He'd Never Consider Associating with People as Compromised as Sasin

- I cannot imagine such a scenario. I know Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz; he is simply a very decent man and a very good politician, and he would certainly never think of doing anything with people as compromised as Sasin - stated Marcin Kierwiński on Radio Zet.

11:21

PKW Publishes List of New MEPs

It is now officially known who will represent Poland in the European Parliament – the National Electoral Commission (PKW) has published the list of 53 Members of the European Parliament.

12:11

Morawiecki:

We Face Strategic Decisions

- We are facing strategic decisions. Which path will we take? One of self-limitation, declining competitiveness, lack of security - or one of ambition and building a prosperous state that is economically and militarily strong, and socially cohesive. I am a great supporter of the latter option - wrote Mateusz Morawiecki on Twitter.

12:40

Schetyna:

The Coalition Needs Full Cooperation and Recognition of the Electoral Outcome

- Certainly [this is Tusk's personal success] because he was the leader and guided the Civic Coalition (KO) in these elections. He is the head of government, the leader of this project, so undoubtedly, just as in the parliamentary elections, he took full responsibility and won. So, this is undoubtedly his success, the success of KO, but personally and individually, Donald Tusk's – stated Grzegorz Schetyna in the program 'Sedno Sprawy' on Radio Plus.

- I believe that what we need, what the four-party coalition needs, and I will remind you it is the democratic coalition, is primarily acceleration, acceleration in decision-making. Good, complete cooperation between the segments of this coalition, recognition of the electoral outcome, and quicker delivery of commitments and promises we made before the parliamentary elections – that is the most important thing. We do not need any Hamlet-like indecision, discussions, analyses, or searching for other solutions here. We must very firmly and consistently follow and implement our election promises, including those we made before October 15th. That's all there is to it – he continued.

12:41

Schetyna on the border situation now and 3 years ago:

Today the situation is completely different.

Today the situation is completely different and it is a threat. This Moscow-Minsk activity is an element of hybrid warfare, that's how it should be understood. If you are talking about the situation from 3 years ago, I will repeat, then it was a construct that Lukashenko was preparing, the Belarusian administration was still creating a certain system of income and making money from it, meaning the transfer of migrants through Belarus, through Belarus first to Lithuania, and later, when the border there was sealed, to Poland. That was the beginning of these border problems – said Grzegorz Schetyna in Radio Plus.

13:29

Hołownia Announces Return to Work:

This is not a result I am satisfied with.
Thank you for every vote for Poland 2050 and The Third Way. This is not a result I am satisfied with. In an aggressive, polarized campaign, where only winning mattered for parties, there was no room for conversations about people, about solutions for Poland's development. That's why half of the October voters stayed home. We are returning to work - wrote Szymon Hołownia on Twitter.

15:43

Zone at the Belarusian Border: Tusk Announces Resolution Adoption

- We have adopted a resolution, the practical consequence of which is the decree of the Minister of Interior and Administration on the establishment of a zone at the border with Belarus, which has been widely discussed. We consulted the elements of this decree with the interested parties. The aim, and we're not beating around the bush, is to make it more difficult to smuggle illegal migrants across the Polish-Belarusian border and to create better conditions for our services, both the Border Guard, the army, and the police - stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press briefing.

- There are areas in nature reserves where this zone will extend about two kilometers deep, but these are short sections and they are related to the presence of smugglers who operate primarily in forested areas, not directly at the border, but rather at a distance of one to one and a half kilometers. In these places, the zone (...) will be wider - he added.

Tusk Provides Data on Weapon Usage at the Border:

No One Felt Paralyzed After the March Incident.

Tusk Announces Amendments to the National Defense Act:

As a rule, it will not be a crime.
“If soldiers, in connection with the performance of official duties or tasks, where there are indications that the rules for the use or employment of direct coercion, weapons, or other armament may have been violated, if soldiers, in order to repel a direct, unlawful attack on the inviolability of the state border by a person forcing the crossing of the state border, using a vehicle, firearm or other dangerous object, or repelling a direct, unlawful attack on the life, health, or liberty of that soldier or another person, or counteracting actions directly aimed at the health, life, and liberty of that soldier or another person, the necessity of opposing a person who disobeys the call to immediately abandon weapons, explosives, or other dangerous objects, the use of which may endanger the health, life, or liberty of that soldier or another person, or who attempts to unlawfully take a firearm from a soldier or another person authorized to possess it, if the circumstances require immediate action, then according to these new provisions, a soldier will not commit a crime if they use a weapon, even though under normal circumstances it would be considered a violation of the rules regarding life or the use of weapons, but if such circumstances as I have listed occur, then as a rule, it will not be a crime,” stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press briefing.

16:34

Duda:

There are politicians who should apologize for their treatment of Polish soldiers
- In connection with what has happened and in connection with these attacks that we are unfortunately witnessing recently against our soldiers, there have been 50 such attacks on our soldiers recently, and one of these attacks [...] unfortunately ended tragically, with the death of our soldier - said President Andrzej Duda in a statement before the start of the National Security Council meeting. - Over the past two years, since the summer of 2021, things have been very varied, and unfortunately, there were politicians on our political scene who, in a brutal manner, often attacked our officers, one could boldly say, tarnished the Polish uniform. I express satisfaction that today the number of those among Polish politicians who allow themselves such behavior has practically decreased to zero, and that support for soldiers and officers defending our border is essentially unanimous. However, I think there are politicians in Poland who simply should apologize for their past treatment of Polish soldiers, those who wore the uniform and those who defended our border and our security - he continued.

16:44

Duda Announces Topics for the National Security Council:

They Are to Contribute to Improving Soldiers' Capabilities to Perform Tasks.
- We have very important topics to discuss today, which are also intended to contribute to improving security, and above all, the capabilities of our soldiers to perform tasks in this border region. I am thinking here about the issue I announced last week, my hope for widespread support in our parliament for the draft bill that has been submitted, concerning the actions of state authorities in the event of a threat to the Republic of Poland's security. This is a bill that was prepared by the National Security Bureau in consultation with the Ministry of National Defence, and it was a repeated, long-term consultation, both with the ministry headed by Prime Minister Mariusz Błaszczak, and later also when Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz took over the ministry - said President Andrzej Duda in a statement before the commencement of the National Security Council meeting.

16:52

Duda:

Polish Soldiers, Not Attackers, Deserve Security Above All
- I say this as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces: today, it is our soldier who primarily deserves security and protection, not someone who attacks the Republic or attempts to breach our border. I will not even mention that I believe the Republic should make every effort to identify the perpetrators of this murder and ensure they are duly punished, regardless of their location - said President Andrzej Duda in a statement before the National Security Council meeting.

19:38

Tusk:

We Won to Unite Around Secure Borders. There's No Room for Party Egos Here
- We won to unite Poles and all of Europe around secure borders. This must be a common national game. There is no room for party egos in it. This was the subject of the government session, the meeting with the President, and my online conversation with 9 EU prime ministers. One day in Białystok - Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on social media.

20:34

Buffer Zone on the Border: Siemoniak Sets Effective Date for Regulation
- The Council of Ministers adopted a resolution today that supports officers, soldiers, and appreciates the stance of residents. And we have concluded consultations on the [buffer] zone today; a meeting with non-governmental organizations took place, and I believe the regulation will be signed on Wednesday and will come into force on Thursday – Tomasz Siemoniak said in an interview with Monika Olejnik on TVN24's "Kropka nad i". - For most of the border, it will be 200 meters. In a few places, where there are strict nature reserves or where the police indicate that human smugglers arrive, this distance will be slightly extended – the head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration continued to say.

20:44

Siemoniak on the Buffer Zone: We Met Expectations to Ensure Security, Not Paralyze Life
- Following these consultations, also conducted by the voivode on-site in Białystok, we have met the demands and expectations. So that, on the one hand, we ensure the safety of officers, soldiers, and residents, but on the other hand, we do not paralyze life - said Tomasz Siemoniak on TVN24's "Kropka nad i" [Point Over I]. - This zone is significantly shorter in length than what was adopted two years ago. Back then, it was over 400 kilometers, now it's 60 - he conveyed. - I hope this zone will yield very quick results. The situation at the border has worsened considerably; there is immense pressure, and there are aggressive individuals on the other side, so this is simply a necessary measure - he stated.

20:53

Siemoniak:

Since Wednesday, We Have Increased Police Prevention Forces at the Border
- Since Wednesday, we have increased police prevention forces at the border. Two and a half companies represent forces that operate in a cohesive manner, capable of handling aggressive crowds and groups of people. We must adapt our tactics for operating at the border to the situation. On one hand, it is practical action, on the other, regulations - said Tomasz Siemoniak in "Kropka nad i" on TVN24.

20:55

Duda Summarizes NBH Meeting:

Above All, We Discussed the Tragic Death of a Soldier Who Fell in the Line of Duty.
- A few hours ago, we held [...] the National Security Council. We discussed the most important aspects related to the security of the Republic of Poland, as well as the situations and tragic events that have occurred recently in our homeland. Above all, we discussed the unfortunately tragic death of one of our soldiers, who fell in the line of duty defending the Polish border. We also discussed situations that took place a few months ago at the border directly related to its protection, which led to intervention by both the Military Police and actions by the prosecutor's office - said President Andrzej Duda in a statement after meeting with soldiers. - Here on site, in one of the bases [...] of the military task force, I also spoke with representatives of the Military Police and the command. We discussed this situation very calmly; it requires clarification. I just want to signal to you that, as the Minister of National Defense, Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, said today, none of the soldiers who were detained by the Military Police, nor their defenders, have filed any complaint against the actions of the Military Police - he continued. - Since I have held the office of President, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the issue of whether a Polish soldier has the ability to serve, to perform their duties safely, so that they can return home peacefully from service, from completing their tasks, has been of fundamental importance to me. [...] I said today that Poland must make every effort, the Polish state should deploy all its capabilities to ensure that the perpetrator, the perpetrator of this murder, is caught, detained, and duly punished. This is a matter of our Polish raison d'état - he went on to say. - We also discussed, ladies and gentlemen, a bill that is intended to address the shortcomings that currently exist in our soldiers' ability to act, also concerning safety, also concerning equipment, also concerning the possibilities for them to use means that ensure their safety and the ability to repel an attack. [...] Legislative solutions will also be proposed in this regard in the near future - he added.

21:01

Siemoniak on Soldier Detentions: Kosiniak-Kamysz Presented Exhaustive and Honest Explanations
- We devoted a lot of time to this issue [the detention of soldiers] [during the National Security Council meeting], because it is truly fundamentally important, and the conclusions for the future are fundamentally important. I assess, as I listened to the exhaustive, very honest explanations of Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz, that they were satisfactory. In the sense that we know who made what mistakes, what conclusions we are drawing from this - said Tomasz Siemoniak in "Kropka nad i" on TVN24.

21:04

Duda Ahead of Trip to Latvia:

We Will Discuss Security, Cooperation, and Preparations for the NATO Summit.
- Literally in a moment I am returning to Warsaw, I will board a plane and head to Latvia. Tomorrow, the meeting of the so-called Bucharest Nine, the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance in our part of Europe, begins there. We will discuss security issues and our cooperation, as well as preparations for the upcoming NATO summit in Washington - said President Andrzej Duda in a statement after meeting with soldiers.
