Friday's Political Agenda: Government Reshuffle at 9:12 AM, Glapiński's Conference, and Anti-Green Deal Demonstration

At 9:12 AM, at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Prime Minister Donald Tusk will announce changes to the Council of Ministers.

At noon, a demonstration organized by "Solidarność" will begin at Castle Square in Warsaw as part of a protest against the Green Deal. PiS politicians have also announced their participation.

At 3:00 PM, a press conference by NBP President Adam Glapiński will be held at the National Bank of Poland headquarters, concerning the current economic situation in Poland.

Brudziński on Kierwiński and Sienkiewicz's EP Candidacy: A Pretext for Tusk to Get Rid of Politicians Who Destroyed Everything
- The question is, what truly lies behind this 'evacuation' after actually 4 months of holding ministerial positions for Sienkiewicz and Kierwiński. […] On one hand, it's an obvious electoral tactic to field recognizable individuals with strong names to pull the lists. However, whether this is the main reason in the case of Kierwiński and Sienkiewicz, I have significant doubts, because neither Sienkiewicz nor Kierwiński are currently 'locomotives' for Civic Platform (PO), unlike other candidates. To some extent, they might even be a burden - stated Joachim Brudziński in the RMF FM program 'Rozmowa o 7:00' (Conversation at 7:00). - I think this is a kind of pretext for Donald Tusk to get rid of politicians who entered ministries, waved their clubs for these 4 months, and destroyed everything that was there, especially speaking about Minister Sienkiewicz. All cultural institutions, they removed all people who had even the slightest connection to PiS. This tactic has been adopted: we stigmatize, we employ a scorched earth policy - he continued.

08:13

Brudziński:

Tusk Fired a Cannonball of Fury Yesterday; I Wonder What's Next. PiS as ISIS Representatives?
- He [Donald Tusk] fired a cannonball of such magnitude yesterday on the parliamentary rostrum during these paroxysms of fury that I wonder what will come next. PiS as the representative of the Islamic State in Poland? Because Hezbollah has already been mentioned, now we are a pro-Russian party, so all that's left for him is the Islamic State, Boko Haram from Nigeria, and finally North Korea with the Juche ideology at its core. It's simply madness – said Joachim Brudziński in the RMF FM program “Rozmowa o 7:00” (Conversation at 7:00). - What is behind this fury of Tusk's, behind these very emotions he introduces into politics? Very effectively, I must give him credit for that, [...] all these trainings that Tusk undergoes make him a very skilled hater [...]. Tusk is not just any internet troll – he continued.

08:18

Szydło:

Everything will be alright in Małopolska, PiS will govern
President Kaczyński did not get angry with me. Everything will be alright in Małopolska, PiS will govern. The fact that councilors have not yet agreed on the choice of marshal is nothing extraordinary. Everything will be okay. At the next session of the Małopolska regional assembly, a provincial marshal will be elected, and it will be a marshal from PiS - stated Beata Szydło in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on Radio Zet.

08:21

Szydło:

There Was Never a Conversation with the Chairman About Me Running for President

- I don't know what the media are writing, but I would advise those colleagues who currently have too much of an overactive imagination and hot heads to stop running to the media and instead focus on working in their regions. Nothing is happening, because there was no conversation between me and the Chairman about me running for president - stated Beata Szydło on Radio Zet.

08:25

Szydło:

Tusk's Statement is Brazen Impudence
- It's brazen impudence what Tusk said. It's simply another attempt to divide the political environment, the public opinion, to dig more pits and incite unnecessary quarrels. He behaved brazenly, we must finally end this squabble in Poland. Tusk is the man who led to the squabble in 2010 and continues this path, or rather in 2007 and since 2005, when he lost the presidential election to the late Lech Kaczyński, he cannot come to terms with it and divides society, divides Poland - stated Beata Szydło on Radio Zet.

08:26

Szydło:

Szmydt Left Poland During Tusk's Premiership; He Is Responsible for Services

- Judge Szmydt was likely conducting his activities for a long time. There have been media reports, as I don't know the details, suggesting he was recruited during his studies. And I also want to remind you that he left Poland during the time Donald Tusk is Prime Minister, and it is he who is responsible for the functioning of the services - stated Beata Szydło on Radio Zet.

08:37

Szydło:

No one from PiS is inciting farmers' protests; farmers are protesting on their own
No one from PiS is inciting farmers' protests; farmers are protesting on their own. Marshal Hołownia has lost his way, because I remember when he started his term, he announced that the Sejm would be open. Today, before the Sejm, on my way to the studio, I already saw barriers set up, lots of police - stated Beata Szydło on Radio Zet.

08:38

Brudziński:

Without the President's Veto, Such Situations as with Szmydt Might Not Have Occurred, as We Would Have Reformed the Judiciary, Including Judicial Operational Surveillance
- It is very simple to float suggestions that Szmydt represented our milieu. Szmydt represented a milieu that, through the mouths of very important judges, claimed to be an extraordinary caste. It was we who were the political milieu striving for judicial reform - said Joachim Brudziński in the RMF FM program "Rozmowa o 7:00". - It is very dangerous to play the Szmydt card for the needs of such a brawl between two political parties. The matter is truly very serious. This man had access to the most important secret information - he continued. - We also have to honestly admit that if it weren't for President Andrzej Duda's veto, such situations might not have occurred, because we would have reformed this dimension, including the operational surveillance of judges, in a way that would have made such prancing impossible - he stated.

08:44

Kierwiński:

I Submitted My Resignation to the Prime Minister
- I submitted my resignation to the Prime Minister, and at 9:12 AM the Prime Minister announced that he would present the new ministers, my successors, and then he would also accept this resignation – said Marcin Kierwiński in the program "One on One" on TVN24.

08:46

Kierwiński on his Successor: If it's Siemoniak, it's a Very Good Choice
- Personnel decisions are ahead of us, only at 9:12, as I said, but if it is Tomasz Siemoniak, then it is a very good choice. Tomek Siemoniak is also an experienced person, he worked in this ministry, today he supervises the services, he was a Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence, a perfectly prepared state official, a very, very great patriot – stated Marcin Kierwiński on TVN24.

08:48

Kierwiński:

It's impossible not to see that Szmydt was a product of the PiS era
- It's impossible not to see that Mr. Szmydt was promoted during the PiS era, it's impossible not to see that he was a product of the PiS era, and it's impossible not to see his connections with PiS politicians. Please note that he belonged to that famous "Kasta" group, which was meant to destabilize the situation of the Polish judiciary and also to gather dirt on Polish judges – said Marcin Kierwiński on TVN24.

08:50

Kierwiński:

The most telling evidence of PiS's pro-Russian policy is how the Polish army was treated
- For me, the most characteristic evidence of this pro-Russian policy of PiS is the way the Polish army was treated. The way the best officers were removed, the way the Polish army was discredited, as Mr. Misiewicz did, the way Mr. Macierewicz acted. Even Mr. President Duda, who comes from PiS, didn't by chance speak of UB [Security Service] methods or SB [Security Service] methods. What happened in the Polish army, how the Polish army was disarmed, how secret, strictly secret documents were used for political purposes by, for example, Mr. Błaszczak, is, in my opinion, the hardest evidence of how pro-Russian PiS's policy was – stated Marcin Kierwiński on TVN24.

08:51

Leszczyna:

I Don't Expect a Reshuffle at the Ministry of Health

- I don't expect a reshuffle at the Ministry of Health. I don't know, and I won't pretend to have some secret knowledge that I don't want to share with you this morning. I honestly don't know, but I can assure you that my excellent colleagues who are leaving to serve in Brussels will be replaced by equally good individuals who will stay here with us and manage these ministries – stated Izabela Leszczyna on the PR1 program "Sygnały dnia".

08:54

Szydło:

It's a 'Solidarity' demonstration, we will participate but not as party representatives

- It's a demonstration of 'Solidarity', we will participate in this demonstration, but not as representatives of a political party, simply as citizens. No, we will absolutely not [be performing] - stated Beata Szydło on Radio Zet.

08:59

Leszczyna:

Maybe Not Fewer Ministers, But We Are Truly a Cheaper Government

- Does the government need to be slimmed down? Please note that perhaps there are not fewer ministers, but we are truly a cheaper government. Our Prime Minister does not need to have such a Byzantium as Mr. Mateusz Morawiecki. We are already discussing that the presidency will be substantive and rather modest - stated Izabela Leszczyna on the program "Sygnały dnia" (Signals of the Day) on PR1.

09:03

Szydło Admits: 'Supporting von der Leyen Was a Mistake'

- I admit that it was a mistake that we supported von der Leyen, but today we must draw conclusions from this and ensure that conservative parties have a majority in the next European Parliament term - stated Beata Szydło on Radio Zet.

09:08

Lasek on CPK: Comprehensive Vision by Summer, First Spade in Mid-2024, Realistic Completion by 2032
- We are working on making this [presentation of the comprehensive CPK project vision with dates] happen as quickly as possible, in the near future [...] definitely [by summer] - said Maciej Lasek in an interview with Marcin Fijołek on Polsat News' "Graffiti". - 2028 [year] communicated by my predecessor was completely unrealistic. Even my predecessor, Mr. President Wild, said: 15-20%. That is, in 15, 20 simulations out of 100, it seemed they might manage to keep the 2028 date. For God's sake, if we are investing tens, and in reality hundreds of billions of Polish taxpayer zlotys in such an investment... I'm talking about 2032 [year], that's an 80% probability. In the second half of 2032, I have set the company the task: provide realistic schedules and a true schedule linked to probability, as is done in business - he continued. - The first spade should be driven somewhere in the middle of next year. We, having these new schedules today, this entire plan, know how to build it and build it wisely - he went on to say.

09:12

Szydło on the Marshal of Lesser Poland: These are decisions that will primarily be made by Mr. President

- The Marshal of Lesser Poland will be a PiS representative. Perhaps Mr. Kmita, these are decisions that will primarily be made by Mr. President [Kaczyński] - stated Beata Szydło on Radio Zet.

09:16

Tusk:

These were months of breaking down walls. Today, the time for tidying up has come
First changes are happening in the government. When we began our work as representatives of the October 15th coalition, when we formed the government, I announced from the outset, those who know me and remember me from past years, from my first term as Prime Minister, know that no one, including myself, should become too attached to the idea of being eternal. This principle stems from a deep conviction that we are here to maximize and optimize opportunities and circumstances, and only the public and state interest matters - stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister (KPRM). The ministers who are bidding farewell to you today in their ministerial roles have fulfilled the tasks we set for ourselves, and I expected effective, sometimes tough action from these ministers. These first months, and I believe you will understand me well when I use this metaphor, were months of breaking down walls. Today, the time for tidying up has come, and this is one of the reasons, though it doesn't apply in every case, why we have jointly decided on these changes - he continued.

Tusk Unveils New Ministers [LIST]

Tomasz Siemoniak - Minister of the Interior and Administration, Coordinator for Special Services

Jakub Jaworowski - Minister of State Assets

Hanna Wróblewska - Minister of Culture and National Heritage

Krzysztof Paszyk - Minister of Development and Technology

09:33

Tusk:

Draft Law Ready to Establish Constitutional Commission to Investigate Russian and Belarusian Influence in Poland
- In a few dozen minutes, the Collegium for Special Services will meet again at my request. We will continue our discussion concerning Russian and Belarusian influence on public life and the situation in Poland in previous years. Among other things, as I had expected, Minister Siemoniak has prepared a draft law, according to which a constitutional and effective commission will be established to investigate the influence of Russia and Belarus on what has been happening in Poland in previous years - stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.

09:48

Tusk:

On Monday at 10:30 AM, the President Will Appoint New Ministers

- I invite you for Monday at 10:30 AM. I received this information from the President that he is ready to make this formal appointment. I will, of course, also be present at this ceremony. We will send a confirmation letter to the President today regarding the decision on these appointments and their content – stated Donald Tusk during the announcement of changes in the Council of Ministers.

11:14

Biedroń:

The Left is for CPK. We Await a Declaration from Lasek, but Primarily from Prime Minister Tusk
- On behalf of the Left, I would like to declare that we will oversee the further development of CPK. We want CPK, yes to CPK, we believe in this project, which of course needs correction, that is probably the most important thing - said Robert Biedroń at a press conference in Warsaw. - Deputy Minister Lasek speaks of the project needing to be made realistic, irregularities accounted for, and presents the first audit conclusions - and that is very good, because we have been waiting for this for a very long time. We also want this project to be made realistic. Looking at the Byzantium that the previous authorities built around CPK, such a project in that formula certainly could not have been continued. When the United Right party recklessly spent public money on this matter, we protested it - he continued. - The Left has always supported the fight against transport exclusion. Those 17 million people who today do not have access to public transport deserve their dignity. […] If we want this CPK, it is precisely from the perspective of equalizing opportunities throughout Poland, so that it is not again the gigantomania of power - he indicated. - One of the television stations today published an IBRiS poll, which clearly shows: Polish women and men want this investment. So, let's get to work. We await declarations not only from Minister Lasek, but primarily from Prime Minister Donald Tusk. […] We are for CPK, we support this project and all hands on deck so that rational work, adapted to the needs of the residents of our country, can start as soon as possible - he emphasized.

11:51

Kaczyński:

The Green Deal is Partly the Work of Civic Platform
- This concerns the most important vote that initiated this Green Deal process. It's about who voted for it, who voted against it. For, of course, it concerns Polish MEPs: Buzek, [...] Lewandowski, Kopacz, [...] Sikorski, Thun, [...] Biedroń, Cimoszewicz [...]. Against: Bielan, Brudziński, Czarnecki [...]. This, I believe, is the best proof that what Donald Tusk is currently doing, or rather perpetrating, is simply applying the old method: the fleeing thief shouts 'catch the thief' - Jarosław Kaczyński said in a statement. - The Green Deal is, among other things, the work of Civic Platform, which fully embraced it in order to pursue various interests, various ideologies, but these interests are not Polish and these ideologies, although they also function in Poland, are not of Polish origin, they are from outside, they are a kind of madness induced from other European countries into our country. This is about climate madness - he continued.

11:55

Kaczyński:

Someone aptly said we pulled Poland out of the Third World
- Someone aptly said that we pulled Poland out of the Third World. Because a country with hungry children is a Third World country. We succeeded in this, the money was there, whereas before, as is known, it was 'there isn't and there won't be.' We did not tolerate those gigantic abuses, this provoked monstrous hatred from those who benefited from these abuses, an entire gigantic campaign, which unfortunately proved effective with a very significant part of society, but this does not change the fact that Poland gained enormously during this period. Now it is to retreat - Jarosław Kaczyński said in a statement.

11:58

Kaczyński on Farmers' Demonstration: We Don't Care About Advertising Our Party, We Are Participating Without Our Banners or Speeches
- We had our own march planned, but we concluded that two marches in a very short period of time is something that probably won't work out. We are counting on today's one succeeding, and we genuinely don't care about advertising our own party; our aim is simply for it to succeed, for there to be many people. So, I repeat, we are participating without our banners, without our speeches, simply as citizens - said Jarosław Kaczyński in a statement.

13:33

Tusk:

President's Representative Declares Readiness to Cooperate in Clarifying Eastern Services' Influence in Poland. Prosecutorial Submissions Forthcoming
- The President's representative at the Collegium meeting declared readiness to cooperate in clarifying the issue of Eastern services' influence in Poland. Prosecutorial submissions will be made. After hearing the Border Guard Commander, I will be at the Belarusian border tomorrow morning with officers and soldiers - Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on social media.

15:08

Glapiński:

Inflation Remains in Line with NBP's Inflation Target for the Third Consecutive Month
- For the third month in a row, inflation has remained in line with the NBP's inflation target. This is a huge, great success and immense satisfaction, especially for everyone at the National Bank of Poland. According to the preliminary estimate by the Central Statistical Office (GUS), inflation in April was 2.4%, compared to 2% in March. It was therefore almost perfectly in the middle of the NBP's target of 2.5% plus or minus one percentage point - stated Adam Glapiński at a press conference.

15:19

Glapiński:

We Are Incredibly Quickly Catching Up to Richer Countries

- We are incredibly quickly catching up to countries richer than us. This process is ongoing; I repeat, it is often referred to abroad in financial, economic, and professional circles as the Polish economic miracle. In Poland, we don't dwell on it, we are very modest by nature. This is something extraordinary, it rarely happens on a global scale - stated Adam Glapiński at a press conference.

15:27

Glapiński:

Our Inflation Was Nothing Special

- Our inflation, if one can say so, was nothing special; it was very characteristic of Central and Eastern European countries. If you have a bundle of this inflation over a period of time, we were always somewhere in the middle. We were a typical Central and Eastern European country, and more broadly, we are a typical European country when it comes to reactions to these energy shocks. Nothing specific in Poland caused high inflation, and certainly not any bad policies. Importantly, disinflation in Poland occurred without incurring significant costs in the form of increased unemployment or GDP loss. This is not something that can be said about all countries, including European ones. We steered monetary policy this way, set it up this way, and fine-tuned it this way, so as not to harm the economy, or to harm it as little as possible – stated Adam Glapiński at a press conference.

15:43

Siemoniak Announces Reinstatement of Russian Influence Commission: "A Project for the Next Sejm Session"
- The College for Special Services, which met on May 10th this year, was briefed by the heads of special services on current findings regarding the circumstances of Tomasz Szmydt's defection to Belarus and his cooperation with foreign intelligence. Intensive investigative activities are underway, including interrogations, searches, and securing evidence - informed Tomasz Siemoniak on social media. - The College acknowledged the premises for the amendment to the Act on the State Commission for the Investigation of Russian Influence, the intention of which is to eliminate unconstitutional provisions and swiftly appoint the commission under the supervision of the Minister of Justice. The plan is for the Council of Ministers to adopt the draft on May 21st this year and to forward it to the next Sejm session - announced the Minister Coordinator of Special Services. The next session of the Polish Sejm is scheduled for May 21-23. - The College heard information about the requests submitted by the Minister Coordinator of Special Services to the First President of the Supreme Court, the President of the Supreme Administrative Court, and the Prosecutor General to undertake cooperation on new regulations regarding the protection of classified information within the judiciary - stated Siemoniak. - The College reviewed the report from the Commander-in-Chief of the Border Guard on the situation at the Polish-Belarusian border and the upcoming actions of state services in this regard - he added.

15:59

Glapiński:

Today, Germany Views Us as an Increasingly Dangerous Economic Competitor

- Today, Germany views us as a competitor, an increasingly dangerous one, whereas before they underestimated us, as a country that could develop so rapidly and as workers who could work so well. Of course, the diligence and entrepreneurship of Poles would have been for naught if not for the proper monetary policy conducted by an independent central bank and our own currency – stated Adam Glapiński at a press conference.

16:20

Siewiera:

The President has long maintained that Russian influence should be investigated. It's good that the current government is starting to share this stance.
- The President has long held the position that the issue of the threat of Russian influence should be investigated, covering a period of up to two decades. Moreover, such a commission should have been established immediately after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, as was the case in other countries; today, any action is actually overdue. The President has raised this point several times - wrote Jacek Siewiera on social media. - It is good that the current government is beginning to share this stance. The President declares and expects cooperation on this matter. The President will respond to concrete proposals after they are presented - the head of the National Security Bureau's post continues. - The President certainly wants the actions not to have a political character. This was the purpose of the presidential amendment to the act adopted by the previous parliament. The President expects the participation of experts and reliable conclusions regarding the strengthening of the state. Not political games - he emphasized.

17:22

Tusk:

PiS No Longer Hides Its Intentions. Banner from Demonstration Clearly Defines the Essence of the Elections
PiS (Law and Justice) is no longer hiding its intentions. Because surely no one believes that it's the farmers who want to leave the EU and the subsidy system. This banner from today's demonstration clearly defines the essence of the elections - wrote Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Twitter.

19:59

Siemoniak on Tomasz Sz.: Sooner or Later, the Republic Will Settle the Score with This Individual
- There is no doubt that [Tomasz Sz.] cooperated with foreign services, Belarusian, and likely Russian as well. [...] The question is from when, the question of motivations. We will certainly get to the truth, this matter is a priority. [...] We are investigating all matters related to this person, all his trips, contacts, actions. His entire past life is being thoroughly scrutinized by the services - said Tomasz Siemoniak in an interview with Marcin Fijołek on Polsat News' "Gość Wydarzeń". - The goal is to indict him, bring him to court, and convict him for his wrongdoings, so we will not be playing games in the media, talking about various things. We are aware that he is currently a pawn in Russian and Belarusian propaganda. I don't think anyone in Poland is falling for such crude propaganda, for what he is saying there - he continued. - The goal of the Polish state is to bring this person before a court and convict him, not to frighten people or tell stories straight out of spy novels. We live in a rule-of-law state. [...] Sooner or later, the Republic will ensure that the score is settled with this person - he emphasized.

20:08

Sienkiewicz:

Szmydt is a traitor. He broadcasts things against Poland dictated by his current owners, who took him as their own, like a dog.
- This is a traitor to Poland who went to our enemies and from there broadcasts things against Poland dictated by his current owners, who took him as their own, like a dog. He is a traitor, and it's very concerning because the question is, since when has he been a traitor, who helped him, how did his career path develop, what circles was he connected with. These are the questions. Everything points to the circle of former Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro, and I hope this will be thoroughly investigated - stated Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

20:10

Sienkiewicz:

Russia's Hybrid War with the West Continues, and We are on the Front Lines

- Putin has declared war on Europe and the West. This is still war. We are talking about the possibility of terrorist attacks, the disruption of airline operations through GPS signal jamming, Russia is preparing to cut Polish internet cables. We are dealing with a whole series of actions that are already war. The hybrid war with the West continues, and we are on the front lines - stated Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach" (Facts After Facts).

20:11

Siemoniak:

We Must Find a Golden Mean That Respects Judicial Independence, Prosecutor Independence, and Protects State Security
- Based on the discussions in the College, I today made a request, because we do not want the government to exert any pressure on the judiciary, to the First President of the Supreme Court, the President of the Supreme Administrative Court, and the Prosecutor General, that I would like us to undertake swift cooperation on new regulations that will ensure that classified information in the justice system is protected - said Tomasz Siemoniak in "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News. - We must find such a golden mean that respects the independence of judges, the independence of prosecutors [...], but still protects the security of the state. I believe that in cooperation with the institutions I have mentioned, we will find such a solution - he continued.

20:12

Sienkiewicz:

Szydło Has Chosen a Political Camp Becoming Anti-Western, Anti-European, and Gradually Anti-Polish

- Ms. Beata Szydło has chosen a political camp that is becoming anti-Western, anti-European, and gradually anti-Polish. This is her choice - stated Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

20:17

Siemoniak:

The Commission on Russian Influence Will Not Make Administrative Decisions, It Will Not Exclude Anyone from Public Life
- We are returning to the idea of a commission, but we are removing all unconstitutional provisions from this act, which unfortunately was adopted by the Sejm. This commission will not make administrative decisions, it will not exclude anyone from public life. Possibly, material from its work will later be the subject of prosecutorial action, so we are not disrupting the constitutional order in Poland - said Tomasz Siemoniak in "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News.

20:21

Sienkiewicz:

It Turns Out That According to Śmigulski, Key Discussions About Polish Cinema Should Take Place in Brothels

- It turns out that according to Mr. Śmigulski, key discussions about Polish cinema should take place in brothels. If that's the case, then I think not only the Supreme Audit Office, but also the prosecutor's office should look into this. For a very simple reason – the amounts are staggering – stated Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

20:24

Siemoniak on the Composition of the Revived Commission on Russian Influence: Experts, No Politicians Will Be Included
- Experts, no politicians or political apparatchiks will be included. I think there won't be former politicians either; the Prime Minister is very clear on this, that there should be experts, that it will not be any partisan commission, and it will not be any hammer against a political opponent - said Tomasz Siemoniak in 'Gość Wydarzeń' on Polsat News when asked what kind of people would be members of the new commission on Russian influence.

20:24

Domański:

If inflation rises, it will be only slightly; I expect it to be around 4% by the end of the year
- Let the President of the National Bank of Poland also not be afraid, because thanks to the government's actions, inflation this year will be a full percentage point lower, and similarly next year. Thus, it is evident that the government has taken very decisive actions to keep electricity prices, gas prices, and heating prices under very strong control. Therefore, President Glapiński, who along with the Monetary Policy Council is responsible for inflation, should also be pleased with the actions taken by the government, as they will lead to lower inflation - said Andrzej Domański in an interview with Justyna Dobrosz-Oracz on TVP Info's "Pytanie dnia" (Question of the Day). - If this inflation does go up, it will be truly slight. I expect that by the end of this year, we will have inflation of around 4%, maybe 4.5[%], and then it will gradually decrease again - he continued.

20:31

Domański:

We Must Radically Accelerate the Energy Transformation Towards RES and, in the Medium and Long Term, Also Towards Nuclear Energy
- The government is undertaking and will continue to undertake actions to ensure that energy prices in Poland are simply lower. Over the last eight years, PiS has practically completely abandoned the energy transformation. We have the largest share of energy produced from coal in the European Union, and this is very, very expensive energy, which is a problem for the entire Polish economy, for Polish industry. That is why we must radically accelerate the energy transformation towards renewable energy sources and, in the medium and long term, also towards nuclear energy – said Andrzej Domański on TVP Info. - Here, the year 2035 is the year when the nuclear power plant should start operating – he continued.

20:38

Domański:

The Last Two Years of PiS Rule Saw a Radical Increase in the VAT Gap
- The PiS government only boasted when the VAT gap was falling, whereas we can clearly see that the last two years of PiS rule have actually seen a radical increase in the VAT gap, which, according to estimates by Ministry of Finance officials, exceeded 15% last year. So, we de facto have a very clear increase in the VAT gap - said Andrzej Domański on TVP Info. - Of course, it is partly, perhaps even largely, due to the economic cycle, to the fact that simply at the moment when the Polish economy stopped growing last year, and PiS brought about the Polish economy stopping growth last year, we had an economic growth rate of 0.2%, and this year our economy will grow at a rate of 3.1%. So, returning to the point, in a situation where the economy is not growing, unfortunately, the VAT gap increases, and we saw this very clearly in the data for 2023 - he continued.
