We promised you 12 guarantees for 4 years, 12 guarantees from Trzecia Droga for the term of office, and today we come to report to you after these 100 days of government operation that we are ahead of schedule, that we have managed to achieve more than we anticipated in such a short time – stated Szymon Hołownia at the Trzecia Droga local government convention in Białystok.

We Need to Clean Up After PiS, But Poles Today Want to Talk About Solving Concrete Problems
- Of course, we need to clean up after PiS; fundamental issues like free media, restoring an independent prosecution service, and finally strengthening the independent judiciary cannot be ignored. However, Poles today want to talk about solving concrete problems. And it so happens that during these very difficult times, eight years of destroying democracy and local self-governments, it was precisely the local governments that stood on the front line and performed their duties when the government was stripping citizens of their rights - stated Rafał Trzaskowski at the Civic Coalition (KO) convention in Olsztyn.

There are several matters that, in my opinion, would be suitable for the beginning of this conversation, but as we know, there can only be one beginning. So, I choose an observation to start. We've had a few opportunities to talk. When someone calls, you answer – and you introduce yourself as Krzysztof Bielecki. This caught my attention. In preparing for our interview, as you can imagine, I've spoken with many people you know and who claim to know you. Everyone referred to you as: Krzysztof. And yet, when you occasionally wrote to me, you usually signed off with "JKB". So, what is it, Mr. Prime Minister? Jan Krzysztof? Krzysztof?
Today I can say, using the phrase "until a certain time," whereas in the past I would have said "always." I was always Krzysztof. That's how I introduced myself: Krzysztof Bielecki. And when the militia interrogated me, I was Jan Bielecki. This continued until the Sejm elected in 1989. Two Bieleckis were elected, two Krzysztofs. So, I had to differentiate myself somehow and used – Jan Krzysztof, but those you mentioned, who know me, for them, I am mostly – Krzysztof.
And in your family home, also Krzysztof?
Yes. And I am Jan Krzysztof because my Mother knew French very well and adored Romain Rolland's novel Jean-Christophe. And perhaps that's why I am Jan Krzysztof.
We will return to questions about your Mother, parents, and family later. The publication in "Karta," which they called a "Special Two-Voice of an Oppressive Time. Selections from a Diary Kept for Thirty Years in the Archive," made a tremendous impression. It concerns the diaries, your Mother's notes from December 1981. And it's a two-voice because you added your own memories to these entries. Did you know then, during martial law, that your Mother was writing?
I didn't know then. But my Mother gave me the entries from this diary at the appropriate time. They are at my home.
"I am cold, I am shivering, but my little grandson forces me to control myself. Where is my son?" or "I didn't sleep a wink until 3:00 AM – I watched my beloved grandson sleeping near me – and I thought about my son" – these are entries from December 13th. Moving and poignant. I will ask later what you were thinking about when you were away from home.
When we get back to that, I'll talk about it, but I can also say right away that we were simply taking action.
Let's try a second beginning. That is, we're starting again, because it's hard to talk about Krzysztof Bielecki from the time of martial law. You live in Warsaw, you were among the leading figures associated with the "train from Gdańsk," yet you were born in Bydgoszcz. Where is your place, Mr. Prime Minister?
I lived in London for a long time, ten years – you can add that too. All of these are good places, but I'll gladly talk about Gdańsk, Gdynia, and Sopot.
So which of these cities? Gdańsk, Sopot, Gdynia?
Each one. You live in one, work in another. I lived in various places for thirty years. In Wrzeszcz, for example. It's important, if you're from there – it's important where you truly are from. I lived in Wrzeszcz, and later on Morena.
Alright, so since it's a beginning, and a second one at that, let's be chronological, from the start. And at the beginning, there was Bydgoszcz.
Yes. I was born in Bydgoszcz.
In 1951.
Yes.
And that's all about Bydgoszcz?
No, I can say more, but you, Mr. Editor, could also ask an interesting question about Bydgoszcz.
Indeed, there wasn't a specific question. Since, as far as I know, your parents moved to the Tricity in the latter half of the 1950s, do you remember anything from Bydgoszcz?
Correction. Only my Mother and I were on the Coast. My Father probably stayed in Bydgoszcz for another two years because it was easier for him to find work there. And my Mother had to leave Bydgoszcz specifically to find work. This was after she lost her job at Polish Radio. Where, interestingly, she shared an office with Jeremi Przybora. And now you asked if I remember anything. Any episodes. Flashes. For example, that Doctor Latos took care of me, and his son became a Member of Parliament many years later. I was under this doctor's care. I remember that somehow because my Mother had a kind of obsession with my health, with providing me with such medical care. I lost two sisters. Krystyna Maria and Ewa Maria died very soon after birth. Hence this particular concern for me. I remember that Doctor Latos had to save me when I drank water mixed with washing powder. I was little. A neighbor was doing laundry, and I somehow wanted to quench my thirst with the water intended for that laundry. It was in the courtyard, in front of the house. They were probably washing carpets. I remember things like that. And that we lived on Ogińskiego Street, near the Polonia stadium.
The stadium has come up. So we can immediately start talking about football.
There will be time for football. We can talk about ballet.
About ballet? I'm all ears.
That's also Bydgoszcz. I was in a children's ballet group. It was the ballet attached to the Bydgoszcz Opera. My Mother enrolled me because my Father sang at the Opera. You could say he was a chorister. He had a solo at the Opera. In "The Gipsy Baron." That was no longer a joke. I also learned. I used to go with my Father, so I listened a lot. And then I sang along with him. Of course, at home, just for myself, for us. And I remember that for my boyish performances in the ballet group, I had two beautiful costumes. One was light blue. So, I do remember something, don't I?

Trzaskowski:
Over the last 8 years, PiS government tried to destroy local government
- The problem was that over these last 8 years, the PiS government tried to destroy local government, it tried to completely dismantle it. Olsztyn was deprived of PLN 200 million, Warsaw of PLN 11 billion over these last years, and this money wasn't taken from President Grzymowicz or myself, but from our residents - stated Rafał Trzaskowski at the Civic Coalition (KO) convention in Olsztyn.

- The saddest thing is that they are arguing solely because they already have the European Parliament elections in mind, and it's simply about who will be in which position, who will finish off the opponent. What matters to them is neither the party nor even the leader; what's more important is who can slander whom, to potentially have a better spot on the EP list later - stated Rafał Trzaskowski at the Civic Coalition (KO) convention in Olsztyn.

Trzaskowski:
The Whole World is Watching Us, That We Have Managed, Through the Power of Citizens, to End, at Least in This First Step, the Era of Populism
- We have something to prove. The whole world is watching us, that we have managed, through the power of citizens, to end, at least in this first step, the era of populism. It doesn't come easily for anyone. That is why we must take further steps to show the whole world: here is democracy, we are strong, we are learning, we are active, determined, because this is connected with our security, and that is why security is so important to us - stated Rafał Trzaskowski at the KO convention in Olsztyn.

Hołownia:
Today We Need Peace, Stability, and Cooperation, Because That's Where Our Strength Lies
- Today we need peace, today we need stability, today we need cooperation, because that's where our strength comes from. When the world outside is dangerous, we cannot quarrel amongst ourselves, we cannot be at each other's throats, we cannot nibble at each other; we must cooperate. Today is the time when, as we present to you and will continue to do so shortly, concrete commitments, showing the next things we want to do as TD, we appeal to all those who hold Poland, security, stability, and peace dear, that we do what we did for a moment, two weeks before the October 15 elections. We showed that within this coalition, which was supposed to happen on October 15, we are not enemies – stated Szymon Hołownia at the TD local government convention in Białystok.

Kaczyński:
100 Concrete Proposals Are Essentially Almost 100 Lies
- Should democracy look like this, is democracy the rule of those who skillfully deceive? In a situation where 100 concrete proposals are essentially almost 100 lies, in a situation where people are misled, can we talk about democracy on a massive scale, can we talk about democracy at all? - stated Jarosław Kaczyński during a local government convention in Radzyń Podlaski.
13:46
Kaczyński:
This Government is Pursuing a Policy of Robbing Polish Society
- One could say that this government is pursuing a policy, I must use this word, of robbing Polish society. We, during these 8 years in power, created a prospect of improvement, of clear improvement - stated Jarosław Kaczyński during a local government convention in Radzyń Podlaski.
13:55
Kaczyński:
We are dealing today with a government of cheats and liars
- Unfortunately, it has stopped looking like that. Lies have won, and we are dealing today with a government of cheats and liars - stated Jarosław Kaczyński during a local government convention in Radzyń Podlaski.

The Euro Today Would Hit Poland, Polish Families, and Households Very Hard
- If we defend the zloty, it is because, firstly, it ensures that we can regulate the situation in the Polish economy. This is an incredibly important element of our sovereignty, and ladies and gentlemen, this also means that our resilience to various economic shocks in Europe, or even worldwide, is significantly greater because of this, compared to a situation where we essentially have no say and cannot do anything in these matters. The euro today is something that would hit Poland, Polish families, and Polish households very hard. You must remember this, but this is a commitment of this government – said Jarosław Kaczyński during a local government convention in Radzyń Podlaski.
14:21
Kaczyński:
"The Polls We're Receiving Are Very Encouraging, But People Must Go Vote"
- The chances are in various places across Poland, almost everywhere. The results we've been receiving lately are truly very encouraging, but it's not the polls that decide. Citizens decide, and they must make two decisions. The first, and I want to emphasize this very strongly, is the decision to go to the polls – said Jarosław Kaczyński during a local government convention in Radzyń Podlaski.
