- Paweł Adamowicz would want us all here in Gdańsk and across Poland to be smiling today. This is not easy. We have gathered in our city, which is also my beloved city, to remind all of Poland and Europe of this tragic event. The reason for our meeting is the tragic death, the brutal attack on the President of Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz - stated Donald Tusk in Gdańsk.

- Paweł would want this, and we all owe it to him, without exception, that by meeting every year, at the place of his tragic death, we should think and talk about the future - he continued.

- Paweł's sacrifice also helps protect us, each one of us, every single one of us individually. Gdańsk, but also the whole of Poland, from contempt and hate. His tragic and seemingly senseless death has, however, given a very deep meaning to the conviction that, just as in his dreams, Gdańsk and the whole of Poland can and must be a place for people who have shed contempt and hate - stated Donald Tusk in Gdańsk.

Today, a great question stands before all of us: in which direction will our nation go. Today, this great question stands before all Polish women and men. Will we succumb to contempt and hatred, to lies, or will we overcome this again dramatic moment in our country's history, and will the legacy of Paweł Adamowicz, because surely we have the right to speak of this great legacy, prove stronger than the evil that has spread in recent years in our homeland – stated Donald Tusk in Gdańsk.
