Political Week Ahead: Sejm on Investigative Committees, Budget, and PKW Member Selection

The final days before the holidays are dominated by a three-day Sejm session, during which the draft budget law for 2024 will be considered. Additionally, MPs will establish another investigative committee and elect its presidium – concerning the "envelope elections." The calendars of the President and the Prime Minister for this week are not yet known.

Sejm on Investigative Committees. The Sejm will resume its proceedings on Tuesday. On that day, the second reading of the draft resolution on the establishment of an investigative committee to examine the so-called visa scandal will take place. A vote will occur immediately after the consideration of this item, so everything indicates that the committee will be established on the same day. On Wednesday, MPs will then address another draft concerning an investigative committee – for the Pegasus spyware.

Sejm on the Budget. On Thursday, the Sejm will consider, as part of the first reading, the draft budget law for 2024 along with the so-called supplementary budget regulations. The discussion on the most important draft of the year – as its rejection could lead the President to call elections – will last for the main part of the day, after which the draft will proceed to further committee work.

Selection of PKW Members and Investigative Committee. On Thursday, during the voting block, members of the National Electoral Commission (PKW) will be elected, as well as the composition of the second investigative committee – concerning the aforementioned visa scandal. Furthermore, on Tuesday, another investigative committee will convene – on "envelope elections" – to elect its presidium.
