BGK to Finance SMR Technology Development
PARTNER CONTENT MS Galleon GmbH, a company belonging to Michał Sołowow, will receive EUR 500 million (over PLN 2.2 billion) in financing from Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK). The funds will be allocated, among other things, to the implementation of a small modular nuclear reactor (SMR) construction program and an investment in new production lines for the Barlinek Group companies. The repayment period for the obligations to BGK extends up to 10 years. BGK will support MS Galleon projects, which include investments in zero-emission energy sources, and in particular, the activities of Orlen Synthos Green Energy (OSGE). OSGE is a joint venture between Michał Sołowow and the Orlen Group. The goal of OSGE is to support the decarbonization process of Polish energy through the construction of small modular nuclear reactors, BWRX-300. These investments will contribute to ensuring the stability of electricity and heat supply at competitive production costs. The project is in the preparation phase for implementation and requires significant investment. MS Galleon is also developing other projects related to zero-emission energy generation sources. Furthermore, the Barlinek Group, controlled by MS Galleon, is implementing a project to build a modern factory for hybrid flooring, which will complement the Group's product portfolio with innovative technologies and design. Barlinek is one of the largest wood flooring manufacturers in the world. The investments will support the company in entering a new segment of the flooring market, particularly allowing for increased presence of Polish products in foreign markets, which already account for 80% of the Group's sales.

- The construction of clean energy sources is one of our priorities. Deep decarbonization of Polish energy and heating is a necessary process, and through the construction of SMRs, as well as other projects in the area of renewable energy, we want to actively participate in this transformation. It is also important for us to consider the perspective of the entire industrial group. Companies belonging to MS Galleon, in order to remain competitive on the global market, must have guaranteed zero-emission, stable sources of electricity and heat. Support from BGK will help us achieve these goals - says Jarosław Grodzki, Member of the Management Board of MS Galleon GmbH.

Both projects have received financial support from Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego totaling EUR 500 million (over PLN 2.2 billion). MS Galleon can allocate EUR 440 million (approx. PLN 1.95 billion) to the implementation of the SMR construction program. The repayment of obligations to BGK will occur 10 years after the agreement is concluded. The financing granted to MS Galleon is a continuation of BGK's support for the development of nuclear technologies and zero-emission energy production in Poland. In April this year, alongside the US EXIM Bank and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), BGK joined the signatories of an agreement with Orlen Synthos Green Energy. This agreement concerned the construction of a fleet of BWRX-300 reactors in Poland. BGK also works to increase the competitiveness of Polish industry, taking into account sustainable production. Hence, the support for the activities of Barlinek Group companies.

- Engaging in projects that contribute to increasing Poland's energy security is part of BGK's business strategy. We are convinced that energy generation based on small modular nuclear reactors, so-called SMRs, will be an important aspect of Poland's energy transformation and a significant source of supply for citizens and businesses with competitively priced and zero-emission energy. BGK's strategy also includes supporting Polish manufacturers, such as Barlinek, in building competitive advantages in international markets. In this way, the Bank has a real impact on increasing the socio-economic development dynamics of our country – points out Marek Tomczuk, member of the BGK management board.
