PARTNERSHIP TEXT
Exhibitions, art acquisitions, film and theater productions, and festivals – the Wrocław Opera has once again joined the ranks of cultural institutions supported by KGHM. The copper giant is an active patron of culture, art, and sports, engaging in the organization or sponsorship of events in the Copper Basin and throughout Poland.
The Wrocław Opera is one of the largest and most renowned opera houses in Poland. KGHM becomes a strategic sponsor of this institution. The copper company's connection to the opera is unique and, in a way, symbolically marked the history of Polish Copper and the Copper Basin. Jan Wyżykowski, the discoverer of the copper ore deposit, before becoming Poland's most famous geologist, trained as an opera singer. His favorite aria (often sung at work) was Nadira from Georges Bizet's opera "The Pearl Fishers." His musical education was interrupted by illness.
KGHM sponsors institutions and cultural events across Poland. Since 2019, it has been a patron of the Royal Castle. The copper company also supports the Vistula Museum in Kazimierz Dolny and the Museum of the Earth in Warsaw. For years, the company has been a partner of the Silver Festival in Legnica and most cultural events in the cities of the Copper Basin. Through the KGHM Polska Miedź Foundation, it also finances smaller local projects, the protection of sacred and secular cultural heritage, and the restoration of paintings and sculptures.
In 2022, KGHM allocated over PLN 10.5 million to culture and art-related projects. The Foundation supported initiatives nationwide with over PLN 13 million.
KGHM has been awarded multiple times for its activities. Last year, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage awarded the copper company the title of "Patron of Culture." Upon receiving the award, Tomasz Zdzikot, President of KGHM, emphasized that the company, "alongside achieving important business goals, feels a responsibility to support Polish achievements and national heritage." This year, KGHM received the Azimuth Award from the Polish Economic Society in the "Patron of Culture" category.
KGHM's engagement in cultural initiatives and artistic-sports activities stems from the goals defined in the company's strategy.
