The NATO Summit, preceded by a National Security Council meeting, a roundtable discussion on copyright law, and Senate deliberations on a government proposal, alongside committee meetings on the KRS, TK, and abortion law projects – these topics will dominate the coming days. It appears that despite the holidays, politics will accelerate, with Daniel Obajtek and Zbigniew Ziobro, among others, set to appear before investigative committees.
National Security Council Meeting. On Monday morning, a meeting of the National Security Council, convened by President Andrzej Duda, will take place at the Presidential Palace. The meeting will be held before the departure of the Polish delegation to the NATO summit in Washington.
Zelensky in Poland. As announced, the President of Ukraine is expected to visit Poland before the NATO summit in Washington. "We have arranged to speak with President Zelensky in Warsaw," Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on social media. The summit begins on Tuesday, meaning Monday is the last possible date for such a meeting.
Ziobro and Obajtek Before Investigative Committee. On Tuesday, the investigative committee for the visa scandal is scheduled to question, among others, the former CEO of PKN Orlen, Daniel Obajtek. On Wednesday, the investigative committee for Pegasus is to question former Minister of Justice, Zbigniew Ziobro.
NATO Summit. From Tuesday to Thursday, President Andrzej Duda will participate in the NATO summit in Washington. Additionally, Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia will attend the summit of NATO parliamentary speakers in Washington.
Demonstration with PiS Politicians. "Next Tuesday [July 9th] at 5:30 PM, there will be a demonstration here under the Sejm, to which we also invite you. We are taking this opportunity to invite you to this demonstration, a demonstration on the rule of law in Poland," said Jarosław Kaczyński at a press conference.
Government on V4 Presidency. During its Tuesday session, the Council of Ministers will address the program of Poland's presidency in the Visegrad Group (V4) from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, as well as a draft amendment to the act on the provision of economic information and the exchange of economic data.
Copyright Law Roundtable. "The authorities should not buy media favor, media should not engage in ambiguous dealings with the authorities, and big tech should not exploit authors and publishers. There is much to discuss. Together with Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, I invite the protest organizers to the 'Dialog' center, Wednesday, 1 PM," Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on Twitter. The meeting will focus on an amendment to the act implementing the EU's DSM (Digital Single Market) directive.
Senate on Copyright Law. The day before these consultations, the Senate's Committee on Culture and Media will consider the amendment to the Copyright and Related Rights Act. The Senate itself is expected to review the government's proposal on Wednesday or Thursday during a two-day session.
Committee on Abortion. On Tuesday, during a session of the extraordinary committee tasked with reviewing draft laws concerning the right to abortion, a discussion will be held on three proposals – two sponsored by Civic Coalition (KO) and one by The Left.
Committee on the Constitutional Tribunal (TK). Also on Tuesday, the Committee on Justice and Human Rights will consider the bill on the Constitutional Tribunal along with its implementing provisions, submitted by the parliamentary majority. The proposals were submitted to the Sejm in March, and the first reading took place in April.
Committee on the National Council of the Judiciary (KRS). On Thursday, the Committee on Justice and Human Rights will consider the Senate's resolution on the amendment to the act on the National Council of the Judiciary – this will, in practice, allow for a vote on the upper house's amendments to this act, which may occur during this week's session. The Senate's amendments have been awaiting consideration since May 9th.
Sejm on Abortion Law. During the two-day session beginning on Thursday, the Sejm will consider – in its second reading – the proposal submitted by The Left concerning the partial depenalization and decriminalization of acts related to pregnancy termination, the complete exclusion of the criminality of pregnancy termination up to the 12th week with the woman's consent, and the exclusion of criminal liability for pregnancy termination with the woman's consent in cases of severe, irreversible fetal impairment or incurable disease.
Sejm on Romanowski. During the aforementioned session, the Sejm is also expected to address the request from the National Prosecutor to grant Sejm consent for the criminal prosecution, detention, and temporary arrest of MP Marcin Romanowski.
