Political Friday Plan: Last Day of Sejm Session, PiS Club Retreat, and PAD in Houston

The Sejm will conclude its session today. MPs will still hear the report from the Ministry of Interior and Administration on the implementation of the act on the acquisition of real estate by foreigners and make any necessary statements.

Today will also feature a retreat session of the Law and Justice club. "Decisions will also be made regarding the election staff, work schedule, and the programmatic convention at the beginning of July. We are getting to work very energetically, firmly, and diligently ahead of the elections," Vice-Marshal Ryszard Terlecki announced yesterday in the Sejm.

The President continues his visit to the United States. Andrzej Duda is still in Houston, where at 3:30 PM he will meet with heads of American energy companies, and at 6:30 PM he will visit Sabine Pass and talk with the American Secretary of Energy (press conference at 7:20 PM). At 11:00 PM Polish time, the President will participate in the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Polish Ministry of Health and the MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Müller on V4 Meeting: Agreement Reached for Visegrad Group to Adopt a Unified Stance on EU Leadership Positions
  • Primarily, it was agreed that the Visegrad Group will have a common stance in this regard [appointments to high EU positions]. The situation is generally not easy regarding the elections to the European Commission. The European Parliament has changed its face after the elections. Consequently, the cooperation between the European Council and the European Parliament must look somewhat different – said Piotr Müller in an interview with Marcin Fijołek on "Poranek Siódma9".

07:59

Müller:

It Doesn't Have to Be That Personnel Arrangement is Most Important. Programmatic Arrangement is Key. What Good Is It That Tusk Was President of the European Council for So Long?

It also doesn't have to be that the personnel arrangement is the most important. In our opinion, the programmatic arrangement is the most important. That's why it's difficult because you have to reconcile the desire for geographical balance. On the other hand, what good is it that Donald Tusk was President of the European Council for so long? Great, it seemed that a Pole would directly advocate for Polish interests, but it turns out it didn't look like that directly – said Piotr Müller in an interview with Marcin Fijołek on "Poranek Siódma9".

Dworczyk:

Falenta's Letter Arrived at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. Similar to Those Recently Sent to Various Politicians

- It is true, such a [Falenta's] letter did arrive at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. It is a letter similar to those recently sent to various politicians and officials, which the media have been writing about lately. It contains various insinuations. These are very similar letters that should be treated as the actions of a desperate person - said Michał Dworczyk in an interview with Wojciech Dąbrowski on the Polsat News program "Graffiti".

Biedroń:

We're giving ourselves until the end of June to count our numbers, gather, and talk. I hope the result will be a joint, progressive, left-wing list for the Polish parliament
“Today, we need to control our emotions – both good and bad – and take a look at what we have. And we have a difficult situation in the opposition. We need to consider what's next. That's why Wiosna has come forward with an initiative for talks on the progressive, left-wing side. We are trying to find what unites us. We'll see what the outcome will be. We're giving ourselves until the end of June to count our numbers, gather, and talk. I hope the result will be a joint, progressive, left-wing list for the Polish parliament,” said Wiosna leader Robert Biedroń in an interview with Jacek Żakowski on TOK FM Radio's Morning Show.

Biedroń Explains Why He's Not Relinquishing His MEP Seat: 'It Gives Me a Platform to Be in the Media and Brussels to Discuss Important Issues'
“I said that if I become a Member of Parliament, I will resign my [MEP] mandate. I also have a certain problem. It seems to me that today we are focusing on things that do not excite people. This might excite journalists,” said the leader of Wiosna, Robert Biedroń, in an interview with Jacek Żakowski on Radio TOK FM’s morning program. When asked why he is not relinquishing his MEP mandate today, Biedroń replied: “Because today I want to have a reason to go on the media, and this mandate allows me to do so, to be in Brussels and talk about important things, for example, that Poland is facing a serious problem of water shortage today.”

Piontkowski:

We invite ZNP and other unions to the round table. Another session early next week

- We also invite, among others, ZNP, but also other trade unions to participate in the round table, as another session will take place early next week. I am not a member of ZNP, nor a board member. Please understand that a meeting does not always have to take place in the format proposed by Mr. Broniarz. As far as I recall, no Minister of Education has so far attended a meeting of the main board of ZNP - stated Dariusz Piontkowski in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet, when asked if he would attend Tuesday's ZNP meeting.

08:25

Dworczyk:

If Any Polish Politician Calls Army Modernization a 'Game,' It's Their 'Best' Calling Card. State Security is Crucial.

- If any Polish politician calls the modernization of the Polish army a 'game,' and refers to modern military equipment as 'toys,' then that is the 'best' calling card, and I put quotation marks around that word, for such a politician. State security is extremely important, and one of the fundamental duties of every politician is to ensure the security of Poles - said Michał Dworczyk in an interview with Wojciech Dąbrowski on the Polsat News program "Graffiti".

08:29

Piontkowski:

We Invite Trade Unions to the Round Table Meeting Once More. If They Don't Wish to Take This Opportunity, I Will Propose Meetings with All Unions Immediately After the School Year Ends.

- We invite [trade unions] to the round table meeting once more. If they do not wish to take advantage of this opportunity, I will propose meetings with all trade unions immediately after the school year ends, when emotions have hopefully subsided a bit, and there will be slightly more time – stated Dariusz Piontkowski in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

Piontkowski on 'Circus' Remark: 'If Teachers Felt Ill-Treated, I Apologize for the Word. It Was Used Mechanically, I Repeated After a Journalist'

- It's good that you brought that up [regarding the 'circus' remark]. It's a good opportunity to clarify. I was on one of the competing radio stations, and the journalist used that word several times. I understood that term not to refer to the entire strike, but to those incidents and the unserious, satirical behavior of some teachers. I respect everyone's right to strike, including teachers' right to strike. If teachers felt ill-treated in that way, then of course I apologize for that word. It was used mechanically; I simply repeated it after the journalist. Teachers, like other professional groups, have the right to strike, Polish law guarantees them this, and we respect this law. However, some of the behavior of the striking teachers was simply unserious - stated Dariusz Piontkowski in a conversation with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

Szefernaker on Whether It's "All Settled" in PiS: "It Would Be Settled in PiS If We Tried to Think That Way. Campaign Concepts Are Already Being Developed and Started the Day After the EP Elections."
"It would be settled in PiS if we tried to think that way, because anyone who thinks seriously about politics knows you can't approach it like that. We have to be prepared for the fact that we have nearly 4 months of hard work ahead of us, and I guarantee that campaign concepts are already being developed and started the day after the European Parliament elections. We are not wasting time, because if we started developing them now, we would have lost two weeks. We cannot afford to lose time at this moment," stated Paweł Szefernaker in an interview with Marcin Fijołek on the morning program Siódma9, when asked if there is a conviction in PiS that it is already "all settled" regarding the autumn elections. "There were also meetings in the field. Personally, as a Member of Parliament from Koszalin, the regional leader, we had a meeting with district plenipotentiaries. We analyzed the election results, we are still analyzing them, and someone asked me yesterday if I was analyzing the results from municipality to municipality. We are analyzing the results by polling station committees to see where we lost. In a few municipalities, these results were a bit worse than in 2015. In the vast majority, much better, but this means we still have ground where we should fight for every vote, and we will fight for that vote until the very end, until the elections. God forbid such a conviction that it is settled, for pride goes before a fall," added the Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration.

09:09

Szefernaker on PiS's Retreat: 'The Time for Celebration Ended Long Ago. It's Time to Move On to a Plan for the Next 4 Months, and This Plan Will Be Presented Today.'
We have many new MPs who entered parliament a few days ago, replacing those who went to the European Parliament. This is also the first Sejm session after the elections. The time for celebration ended long ago. It's time to move on to a plan for the next 4 months, and this plan will be presented today [at the PiS club's retreat]. Concepts will be presented so that we can each return to our municipalities and districts with a plan for the near future in mind – stated Paweł Szefernaker in a conversation with Marcin Fijołek on the morning program Siódma9.

Gowin:

I Don't See Financial Reserves for Further Broad Social Programs. We Must Focus on Wage Levels in the Public Sector

- Despite very good economic development, I do not see financial reserves for further broad social programs. Secondly, I do not see the need for them, with the exception of significantly broader support for people with disabilities - said Jarosław Gowin in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus's "Sedno Sprawy" (The Core of the Matter).

- We must focus on the quality of the state's functioning. Both on the quality of structures and on issues such as wage levels in the public sector - Gowin added.

The conversation was an excellent opportunity to exchange insights on the global challenges facing the economies and societies of Poland and the USA. PM met with Clinton.

Gowin on the United Right Achieving a Constitutional Majority: Extremely Unlikely

- I find it very unlikely. Extremely unlikely. Our goal is to win the elections and, as far as possible, to secure an outright majority - Jarosław Gowin stated in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus's "Sedno Sprawy" (The Heart of the Matter).

11:11

Kukiz:

Schetyna is entering artistic realms, given his broad, luxuriant imagination that makes him believe he'll seize power

Grzegorz [Schetyna], I see, is approaching, entering artistic realms, given his broad, luxuriant imagination that makes him believe he'll seize power. This is certainly not a threat to him in the near future” – said Paweł Kukiz in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on Radio Trójka, when asked about the PO leader's tweet yesterday regarding the Polish-American agreement.

11:11

Kukiz:

If Someone is to Help Us Maintain Security, I Certainly Choose the United States, Not the Soviet Union

"Poland is not a superpower capable of ensuring its own security, and if someone is to help us maintain this security, I certainly choose the United States, not the Soviet Union" - Paweł Kukiz said in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on Polskie Radio Program III.

Pomaska on Szydło Accident Investigation: We See Evidence Disappearing. We Demand Ziobro Launch Internal Prosecution Proceedings
  • From the very beginning, regarding the accident of former Prime Minister Szydło and the young driver, everyone saw, all of Poland saw, that something was wrong. I would like to remind you that two years ago, we filed a notification with the prosecutor's office concerning the possibility of a criminal offense being committed - said Agnieszka Pomaska during a press conference in the Sejm.
  • Today, after these two years, we see that it is even worse. We see that evidence is disappearing, being destroyed. Therefore, we demand, we insist that Minister Ziobro initiate internal proceedings within the prosecution service - Pomaska added.

Civic Platform MPs on Kaczyński's Lawsuit: We Will Use It to Look You in the Eye and Ask Questions About Srebrna

"Jarosław Kaczyński has decided to try and shut down our bill concerning Srebrna, to bury it, to block all questions about the company he actually manages. We will not agree to this. We will ask about this empire, about this oligarchy which has enriched itself with public assets through a foundation, the Srebrna company. We will ask about this development business, Jarosław Kaczyński's deal of a lifetime, about the details of negotiations with the Austrian investor. We will not be intimidated, Mr. President. We are submitting a motion for you to appear in court, and we will use this lawsuit to look you directly in the eye and ask a few questions," Krzysztof Brejza from Civic Platform said at a press conference in the Sejm.

"State institutions are not functioning regarding the Srebrna company. The prosecutor's office is not functioning. The prosecutor's office is playing for time, it does not want to interrogate Jarosław Kaczyński. Special services are not functioning. We submitted requests for a review of MP Kaczyński's asset declarations. It also turned out that the services saw no purpose in it. Paradoxically, it turns out that this lawsuit, which President Kaczyński filed against us, intended to silence us, will be the best opportunity for the public to learn the truth about Jarosław Kaczyński, to learn everything Kaczyński has to say about the business he conducted," Marcin Kierwiński from Civic Platform argued.

"The entire PiS state, following the Srebrna company scandal, was used to attack independent journalists and MPs who are investigating this matter. All state institutions were used to threaten MPs and the media, to use the law to undermine the independence of the opposition and Polish journalism. All to provide a protective umbrella over the new elite of the Republic of Poland, over people who feel like an irresponsible caste. We cannot allow the rule of law to degenerate into the rule of Law and Justice," added Cezary Tomczyk from Civic Platform.

Budka on the Penal Code Amendment: The Biggest Legal Gaffe in the History of Changes to These Provisions. Ziobro Proved He Reaches for the Worst PRL-Era Patterns

"Not long ago, Zbigniew Ziobro assured that this was a breakthrough law [amendment to the Penal Code], that it was something exceptional, that several years were spent working on these changes, and yesterday it turned out that the opposition was right, that this is the biggest legal gaffe, concerning the Penal Code, in the history of Poland. The 42 Senate amendments to this supposedly perfect law show that Zbigniew Ziobro actually sent one big gaffe to the Sejm. The most important aspect of these changes is that they introduce completely absurd solutions. The most characteristic problem that will appear after these provisions come into effect is that stealing three chocolate bars worth 2 zlotys will be punishable by a much greater and disproportionate penalty than, for example, in the case of causing an accident where three children die. Pickpocketing 10 zlotys will be punishable by up to 16 years of imprisonment. Ziobro has proven that he reaches for the worst PRL-era patterns. It was precisely the Stalinist Penal Code of 1969 that contained the concept of audacious theft, which was eliminated as a crime that cannot be interpreted well" - said Borys Budka from Civic Platform at a press conference in the Sejm.

Law and Justice Parliamentary Club Meeting Underway

The parliamentary club meeting of Law and Justice (PiS) is currently taking place. This information is further evidenced by a tweet from @W_Bernacki: https://twitter.com/W_Bernacki/status/1139543945866895361

18:56

Zdrojewski:

In a Sense, I'm Ready for Political Retirement

- In a sense, yes [I am ready for political retirement]. Of course, this retirement will be from professional politics – everything indicates that, but not from politics in general. However, I have been ready for some time now. I must say that I have been so heartily fed up with politics for some time that I would gladly cut short my activity - stated Bogdan Zdrojewski in an interview with Marcin Zaborski on RMF FM.

- I will not be tempted to be number one on any political formation’s list for the Sejm for two reasons. Firstly, as I have repeated a few times: I never return to roles that I have finished, that I have fulfilled. And secondly, I do not take a position or a mandate if I do not know what to do with it - he emphasized.

19:26

Fogiel:

Poręba to become Deputy Chief of Staff

- Tomasz Poręba will be the deputy chief of staff [of the PiS electoral staff]. This is because after the elections, he has quite a lot of responsibilities in Brussels related to the formation or expansion of the ECR faction. The European Parliament is launching in a matter of weeks, essentially. Therefore, we cannot abandon that work, and it's hard to expect him to shuttle back and forth between Brussels and Warsaw constantly – stated Radosław Fogiel in a conversation with Piotr Witwicki on the Polsat News program "Wydarzenia i opinie" (Events and Opinions).

19:32

Fogiel on Election Timing: It's the President's Prerogative. An Earlier Date Would Definitely Be Better. It's Much Nicer to Travel and Meet People When It's a Warm, Pleasant October

- We would gladly make it [the decision on the parliamentary election date], but it is something we leave to the President. It is his prerogative. We are ready for any date, whether it's mid-October or around mid-November, because those are likely the dates being considered - stated Radosław Fogiel in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on the program "Wydarzenia i opinie" on Polsat News.

- An earlier date would definitely be better. I can say from my own experience, from the pragmatics of campaigning, it's much better to travel and meet people when it's a warm, pleasant October, rather than when we already have an autumnal, rainy November - emphasized the Deputy Spokesperson of PiS.

19:34

Fogiel:

The Short Break from European Elections is Over, and We're Getting Down to Serious Work

- The mood is such that we are postponing our holidays until next year. That short moment of rest from the European elections is over, and we are getting down to serious work. We are starting - stated Radosław Fogiel in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News' "Events and Opinions" program.

19:40

Czerwińska:

We are a determined, integrated, disciplined team that works hard. There will be no holidays for us this year
The first part of the PiS away club has ended. Discussions and talks are currently underway. We are a determined, integrated, disciplined team that works hard. There will be no holidays for us this year. We will focus solely on hard work, and these are our decisions. A program convention will be held at the beginning of July, during which we will present many thematic blocks” - said PiS spokesperson Anita Czerwińska in a conversation with journalists. “Each of us MPs must be very active in the field. MEPs will also actively support us in this. As always, we will be in direct contact with Poles, we will talk to them, we will listen to them, and we will also formulate programmatic postulates with them” - she added.

19:41

Terlecki after PiS club's offsite meeting: The leader argued that winning the EP elections isn't enough for a sense of success. We must earn that success.

"The leader [Kaczyński] assessed the political situation after the elections. He argued that it is, of course, not enough to have a sense of success. We must earn that success. There was also a speech by the Prime Minister, followed by a series of speeches by MPs, ministers, short questions, answers, and discussion," said Deputy Marshal Ryszard Terlecki in an interview with journalists.

19:51

Fogiel:

PiS Program Congress to be Held in Silesia in the First Week of July

- Concrete proposals and the framework of the program will be developed during meetings with people across Poland, and specifically for this purpose, a programmatic congress of PiS, more broadly the United Right, will be held in the first week of July, where experts, activists, and practitioners will be invited to discuss programmatic proposals. The entire process is being prepared by the head of the PiS program council, Prime Minister Gliński. The congress will take place in Silesia in the first week of July - stated Radosław Fogiel in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News's program "Wydarzenia i opinie" (Events and Opinions).

19:52

Nałęcz:

PiS Has No Idea What to Do. Especially as All of Poland Would Be Shaken if it Turned Out Falenta Had an Accident in Prison, e.g., Died from the Heat

- In my opinion, PiS has no idea what to do about this. Especially as all of Poland would be shaken to its foundations if it suddenly turned out that something happened to Mr. Falenta in that prison, for instance, if he died as a result of the heat. Who would believe such a version? - said Tomasz Nałęcz in an interview with Grzegorz Kajdanowicz on the TVN24 program "Fakty po faktach".

19:55

Nałęcz:

The Falenta Case Will Verify President Trump's View on Whether We Can Be Calm About the State of Democracy in Poland

- This is a case that will allow us to verify President Trump's view on whether we can be calm about the state of democracy in Poland. If the authorities are under such an accusation, the resolution of this matter will be a testament to Polish democracy - said Tomasz Nałęcz in an interview with Grzegorz Kajdanowicz on TVN24's program "Fakty po faktach".

19:59

Fogiel:

Our idea for young voters is that we don't bluff. What we promise, we deliver

- I think our idea for young [voters] is that – to put it colloquially – we don't bluff. What we promise, what we ran on in the previous elections, we are delivering, and the same will be true for the future. This credibility and consistency should convince not only young people – stated Radosław Fogiel in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News' program "Wydarzenia i opinie".

20:01

Kamiński:

Let's Use Logic. We Record Tens, Hundreds, Even Thousands of Hours. Now We Need People Familiar with Services and Politics to Select Interesting Fragments

- Let's use logic. We record tens of hours, hundreds of hours, even several thousand hours, it seems. And now we need a specialized apparatus, people familiar with security services, with politics, who are capable of listening to it and selecting the fragments that interest us - said Michał Kamiński in an interview with Grzegorz Kajdanowicz on the TVN24 program "Fakty po faktach".

20:04

Kamiński:

If Falenta is telling the truth, we're facing a colossal state crisis. The legitimacy of this government is morally questioned.
If Mr. Falenta is telling the truth, even halfway, we are dealing with a colossal crisis of the Polish state. And not at a journalistic level. The moral legitimacy of this government is being questioned – stated Michał Kamiński in an interview with Grzegorz Kajdanowicz on the TVN24 program "Fakty po faktach".

JSW:

"Do Not Be Afraid" Foundation Developing Secular Commission Project for Eight Months. Signatures to Be Collected for Civic Initiative

- The "Do Not Be Afraid" Foundation has been working on a secular commission project for eight months, modeled on the Australian commission. This is a very good example - said Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on the program "Wydarzenia i Opinie" (Events and Opinions) on Polsat News.

- It must be a commission composed of experts, laypeople, constitutionalists, lawyers, sexologists, and psychologists. In such a commission, similar to Australia, there can be no room for political games, and no church representation. The church side can be an observer. Such a commission is very much needed, and signatures will be collected for the civic project any moment now - added the MP.
