I Don't Buy the Narrative of an 'Alternative' That Involves Tapping into Iron Reserves." Trzaskowski's lengthy post on SAFE

In such uncertain times, common sense dictates one thing: we strengthen Polish defense industry, and what we cannot produce quickly ourselves, we buy from Europe and America. This is exactly how real deterrence is built, wrote Rafał Trzaskowski on social media.

"SAFE offers Poland a unique opportunity to do this smartly and on a large scale:
• invest primarily in our own country, and at the beginning of the program EXCLUSIVELY in our defense industry; in Polish plants, technologies, supply chains, jobs;
• jointly with Europe, build defense capabilities, because a strong EU directly strengthens Poland and the entire alliance; (incidentally, this is what President Donald Trump urged Europeans to do)
• sometimes buy equipment together (e.g., with the French or Swedes) that we do not produce – and at the same time, sell and produce for other allies in Poland. This works both ways"

- And most importantly: good relations with the USA are crucial, but relying solely on one ally for security is simply unwise. Especially when we see that American attention and resources may be engaged in operations outside the alliance. Europe must have real strength – with our participation and our leading role - the Mayor of Warsaw continues.

- Therefore, I do not buy the narrative of an 'alternative' that involves tapping into iron reserves. In difficult times, a responsible steward protects currency stability and savings, not liquidates emergency reserves. Especially when long-term financing instruments with predictable terms are available - he emphasized.

- This is too serious a matter to turn into an ideological quarrel. SAFE is an investment in Polish strength, European deterrence capability, and concrete security guarantees - he concluded.
