Szefernaker on the Candidate Exchange for New Head of Interior Ministry: 'It's a Great Honor, as it's an Appreciation of My Work'

- For me, it's a great honor that my name has come up, because it's an appreciation of my work. I have a difficult area, which is overseeing the voivodes. This is a great honor for me. I think that in politics, patience is important, humility is important, and today the government needs experienced people who have political experience – stated Paweł Szefernaker in an interview with Krzysztof Ziemiec on RMF FM.

Szefernaker:

The Reshuffle Will Include Deputy Ministers, Featuring Many Young Individuals

- I am pleased that in addition to those experienced individuals who will appear in the government, who have gained political experience in Law and Justice, or earlier in Center Agreement, there will also be – as I spoke with the Prime Minister – changes among deputy ministers. The reshuffle will include deputy ministers, and there will be many young people there. Generally, there are already many young deputy ministers in the Law and Justice government today – stated Paweł Szefernaker in an interview with Krzysztof Ziemiec on RMF FM.

- The generation of 30-year-olds, the generation of 40-year-olds. In politics, this is a very young age. These will be young people. The reshuffle will also cover a few deputy minister positions. In this team, one needs to combine experience with youth, and I think this is a very good recipe for how to govern – emphasized the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration.

Szefernaker:

This past campaign proved that PiS won primarily because it is a credible party

- This past campaign showed that the Law and Justice party won primarily because it is a credible party, meaning we worked towards this result for nearly four years - stated Paweł Szefernaker in an interview with Krzysztof Ziemiec on RMF FM.

- The opposition said and said many different things during the campaign, things they are ashamed of today. Above all, we worked with credibility, with Jarosław Kaczyński's entire plan for there to be a program, a program we are implementing, how we will implement it - there was the first 'five' a year ago, now we are implementing another 'five'. Thanks to this, Poles live better - added the Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration.

Szefernaker:

Even if Lady Gaga Sang at Schetyna and PO's Convention, They Wouldn't Win. Why? Because They Lack Credibility

- Today, we are implementing the 'five' (program), and by the end of summer – calendar summer ends on September 22nd – we must implement the entire 'five'. The 13th pension has already been implemented. Soon, the 500 plus (program) will be introduced, and soon the issue of bus connections will be addressed. Today, elections are won by credibility, not by super spots, super conventions, or super online campaigns. All of that is important because an election campaign must be professionalized, and we – PiS – are running a very professional campaign. The campaign staff ran a very professional campaign. Even if Lady Gaga sang at Grzegorz Schetyna and PO's convention, they wouldn't win. Why? Because they lack credibility – stated Paweł Szefernaker in an interview with Krzysztof Ziemiec on RMF FM.

Szefernaker:

PiS is Primarily a Party of Freedom, Freedom of Speech. We Voted Against ACTA2 in the European Parliament

- Support among young people for PiS remains strong, and we are grateful for that. I believe PiS is primarily a party of freedom, freedom of speech. We voted against ACTA2 in the European Parliament. Our opponents, Platforma, voted for it. Or rather, some voted for it, some against. They didn't have a clear stance. But also, economic freedom. And Bronisław Komorowski told young people on Krakowskie Przedmieście... - Paweł Szefernaker said in an interview with Krzysztof Ziemiec on RMF FM.

Responding to the statement that this is history, the Deputy Minister of Interior and Administration replied: - But no, that's the way PO thinks. Change your job, take out a loan. That's how it was then. And today, many Polish families are repaying these loans, thanks to state support, thanks to the programs introduced by the government.

New MPs to be Sworn In on June 12th

During the upcoming Sejm session, on Wednesday, June 12th, the swearing-in of new members of parliament will take place. A total of over a dozen new MPs will replace those who have departed for the European Parliament; their mandates have already been extinguished. The session will commence at 10:00 AM, at which time the oaths will be administered. The deliberations are scheduled to last until Friday, but it can be assumed that the votes will be postponed to Thursday evening – the current Sejm authorities make such decisions very frequently.

10 Political Topics to Watch in June

The upcoming month in politics is primarily defined by a government reshuffle following the European Parliament elections, the June 4th commemorations in Gdańsk attended by Donald Tusk, followed by the former Prime Minister's interrogation by the VAT parliamentary committee, initial preparations for parliamentary elections, and President Duda's visit to the USA.

*****

PSL and SLD Decisions on Coalitions. On June 1st, the Supreme Council of the Polish People's Party (PSL) will convene to assess the European Parliament election results and initiate discussions on the format for participating in parliamentary elections. As Krzysztof Hetman stated on RMF FM, a decision will be made within three weeks, meaning it is likely to be known by the end of June. On June 8th, the management board of the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) will meet, and on June 9th, the National Council will convene to prepare a resolution on holding a referendum regarding coalition formation and to present the referendum questions.

Government Reshuffle. Changes in the Council of Ministers are most likely to occur on June 4th. This is a necessity after several individuals, including Beata Szydło, Joachim Brudziński, Anna Zalewska, Beata Kempa, Elżbieta Rafalska, and Patryk Jaki, secured mandates in the European Parliament elections. Michał Dworczyk confirmed on Polsat News that, to his knowledge, all decisions have already been made. Elżbieta Witek is the most probable candidate for the new head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, and Bożena Borys-Szopa for the Minister of Family, Labour, and Social Policy.

June 4th Commemorations with Tusk. The Festival of Freedom and Solidarity is being organized in Gdańsk to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the first partially free elections, which took place on June 4th, 1989. Consequently, numerous events will be held in Gdańsk. At noon, a joint rendition of the Polish national anthem, "Mazurek Dąbrowskiego," is planned, along with the proclamation of the Declaration of Freedom and Solidarity, a group photo, and the tasting of a cake celebrating the 30th birthday of Polish democracy. At 5:30 PM, a rally will take place where the European anthem will be played, and speeches will be delivered by the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, former President Lech Wałęsa, and the Mayor of Gdańsk, Aleksandra Dulkiewicz.

Solemn Senate Session. On June 4th, a solemn session of the Senate will be held to mark the 30th anniversary of the partially free parliamentary elections. The session is scheduled to include speeches by President Andrzej Duda, the Speakers of the Sejm and Senate – Marek Kuchciński and Stanisław Karczewski – and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

Civic Platform National Council. "We are discussing within Platform. If anyone were to say that organizational changes are needed – 100% agreement. I myself will prepare for June 8th; we have a National Council meeting, and I will present a plan that will lead us to the October elections," stated Grzegorz Schetyna on Polskie Radio Trójka.

PAD in the USA. On June 12th, President Andrzej Duda and his wife will pay an official visit to Washington D.C. Subsequently, from June 13th to 17th, the Presidential Couple will visit Houston, Reno, Carson City, and San Francisco. The main focus of the visit will be economic issues. The exact schedule is not yet known.

Sejm After the Elections. During the upcoming Sejm session on Wednesday, June 12th, newly elected MPs will take their oaths. A total of over a dozen new deputies will replace those who are leaving for the European Parliament, their mandates having already been extinguished. The session will commence at 10:00 AM with the swearing-in ceremony. The debates are scheduled to last until Friday, but it is anticipated that voting may be moved to Thursday evening – a decision frequently made by the current Sejm leadership recently. A new Deputy Marshal of the Sejm will most likely be elected during this session, replacing Beata Mazurek.

Tusk's Interrogation. On June 17th, the parliamentary committee investigating VAT fraud is scheduled to interrogate Donald Tusk. The former Prime Minister, and current head of the European Council, was originally slated for interrogation at the end of May, but the date was postponed due to his schedule. It is currently unclear whether Tusk will appear before the committee on this new date. The committee will also interrogate, among others, former Minister of Finance Jacek Rostowski on June 4th and former Deputy Minister of Finance Maciej Grabowski on June 6th.

EU Summit. On June 20th and 21st, EU leaders will meet in Brussels to make decisions regarding appointments for the next term of EU institutions and to adopt the Union's strategic agenda for 2019-2024. This agenda will serve as a roadmap for the European Council's work and will guide other EU institutions in developing their own programs. They will also revisit the multiannual financial framework for 2021-2027. The European Council will also discuss climate change in light of the summit convened by the Secretary-General of the United Nations on climate action, scheduled for September 23rd.

Opinion of the ECJ Advocate General on the National Council of the Judiciary. On June 27th, the Advocate General of the Court of Justice of the European Union will deliver an opinion on the preliminary questions submitted by the Supreme Court concerning, among other things, the independence of the National Council of the Judiciary (KRS). Subsequently, likely several weeks later, the judgment of the Grand Chamber, composed of 15 judges, will be announced. On June 20th, the ECJ Advocate General will issue an opinion on the law concerning common courts, and on June 24th, the ECJ will deliver a judgment in the case of the complaint filed by the European Commission against Poland regarding changes to the Supreme Court, which led to the retirement of some judges, including its President Małgorzata Gersdorf.

WKK:

We've Decided to Form a Bloc for Parliamentary Elections Led by the PSL. We Believe There's Room in the Opposition for Conservatives, Christian Democrats, and Agrarians
- We have made the decision to form a bloc for the elections to the Polish parliament, led by the PSL, and to unite all of us who share our values. Christian, democratic, agrarian, and national values. We invite everyone to cooperate for whom this idea and these values are close. We believe there is room in the opposition for conservatives, Christian Democrats, agrarians, all those who perhaps did not find their best place in the last elections and did not participate in those elections. We will want to fight for these votes - stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a briefing after the meeting of the Supreme Council of the PSL. - We have also committed to presenting and preparing the list of candidates as soon as possible, because the elections may take place soon. We are collecting candidacies until June 20th, and we will present the best candidates - added the leader of the PSL.

WKK Presents PSL's Programmatic Assumptions
- We are presenting our programmatic assumptions. Free and accessible medicines for children, including vaccinations. This is a significant cost for parents who need support. When we think of children, we also think of seniors. Seniors need a tax-free pension, which is a solution more supported by them than the 13th pension. We stand by good Polish food, a good Polish brand, which is Polish food. We want to support active farmers, those who work every day and face difficulties. For this, a minimum subsidy of 1200 PLN per hectare is needed, and I hope that our MEPs, as well as those in parliament after the change of government, will be able to fight for this and win it. We are committed to good food for every consumer, and for it to be accessible, traditional products, healthy food, organic, and certified products must have a zero VAT rate, and we will submit such a proposal in this Sejm. We are also going into these elections for the young people, and we want the digital space, which is extremely important to them, to be safe, and we will introduce a secure internet program. We also want voting to take place online, as in some EU countries. We remember entrepreneurs and propose real support for them, i.e., a reduction in PIT to 10% for the self-employed. This is extremely necessary given the rising ZUS contributions, which will increase in an unprecedented way next year. We are presenting a comprehensive program for Poland and Poles, but this is not all. These are just a few points that are important to us - stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a briefing following the meeting of the PSL Main Council. - We want the 500+ benefit to be for those who are learning, studying, and have completed 18 years of age. 500+ should be available for this group until the end of their studies - emphasized the PSL president. As he noted, the rest of the program will be written together with Poles.

WKK:

We Adopted the Name "Koalicja Polska" in a Resolution

- We will certainly want to build a common list for the Senate. Just as we are building a bloc that is meant to be an answer to the needs of the centrist voter, a centrist bloc. We would like to develop this name, "Koalicja Polska", and that is the name we adopted in today's resolution of the National Council. But the Senate - we should either field common candidates or not field candidates against each other. And this is the plan that we will certainly do everything to execute. The final decision, as this is an idea for consultation and consideration by the PSL structures, will be made in June at the next National Council - stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a briefing following the meeting of the PSL National Council.

15:43

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

A Broad Opposition Bloc from Right to Left is Hard to Form; Two Blocs, Left-Liberal and Center-Christian-Democrat, Offer Greater Electoral Success

- We are extending this offer to everyone who shares these values. It seems to me that these are not just political parties, but above all our fellow citizens who have often expected such an offer during meetings – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a briefing after the session of the Supreme Council of the Polish People's Party (PSL). The PSL leader also mentioned the possible participation of the Non-Partisan Local Government Officials. - This is a project open to everyone who wants to endorse this program and these values – he added.

- We formed this coalition [the European Coalition] for the European elections. There was a common denominator: a strong Poland in Europe, and that succeeded in uniting us. It seems to me that an opposition in one bloc, a very broad one, from right to left, is difficult to formulate at present. Two blocs, more left-liberal and more center-Christian-democrat, offer a greater chance of electoral success – emphasized the PSL leader.

19:04

Gowin:

If a centrist-Christian-democratic bloc is being formed, why not go to the Senate with United Right?

Jarosław Gowin, leader of the Agreement party, has questioned the rationale behind forming a separate centrist-Christian-democratic bloc for the Senate elections, proposing instead a joint effort with the United Right coalition.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Gowin posed the rhetorical question: "If a centrist-Christian-democratic bloc is being formed, then why not go to the Senate with the United Right?" The tweet, timestamped June 4, 2019, with a link to a Twitter post (https://twitter.com/Jaroslaw_Gowin/status/1134865188115681281), suggests a strategic discussion within the Polish political landscape regarding electoral alliances.

The Agreement party is a key component of the United Right coalition, which also includes the Law and Justice party. Gowin's statement appears to be an internal deliberation or a public call for strategic alignment, hinting at the complexities of coalition building and electoral positioning in the lead-up to senatorial elections.
