Legutko: European Parliament Sets Another Precedent for Interfering in Domestic Politics
- It turns out that the European Parliament has set another precedent for interfering in domestic politics. The European Parliament has set a precedent whereby an MEP can be punished for statements made in domestic debates, disputes, or arguments. The paradox is that the altercation in question concerned a Civic Platform MEP, who is known for her extremely harsh statements and her significant impact on lowering the level of public debate. It never occurred to us to drag these matters to the European Parliament level – stated Ryszard Legutko at a press conference, commenting on the removal of Ryszard Czarnecki from the position of Vice-President of the European Parliament. He added that, "the night before the vote, we received an interpretation of how the vote was to proceed; it turned out that abstentions were to be counted as votes in favour of removal."
