„Wicked, Disdainful, and Offensive.” — Rose Responds to Tusk, Again Criticizes Czarzasty's Words
state of play: 10/25/2023
STATE OF PLAY: Dziedzic: Likely 18 Ministries, at Least 10 for Civic Coalition, 4 for Third Way, 2-3 for The Left; GW: The Left Enters Race for Sejm Marshal; Kuisz: Liberalism Reduced to an Economic Doctrine Could Cost Us Liberal Democracy
-- 8 YEARS AGO, PIS WON PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS…
-- FOGIEL: I AM VERY CURIOUS HOW PLATFORMA WOULD VOTE IF KOSINIAK-KAMYSZ RECEIVED AN OFFER TO FORM A GOVERNMENT. BUDKA, WHEN ASKED WHO WILL BE THE SEJM MARSHAL: THE COMMON CANDIDATE WILL WIN. HOŁOWNIA OR CZARZASTY ARE VERY GOOD CANDIDATES - 300LIVE: https://300polityka.pl/live/2023/10/25/
-- IT IS BEING SAID, FOR EXAMPLE, THAT ACCORDING TO THE PARITY OF SEATS, AT LEAST 10 OUT OF THE PROBABLE 18 MINISTRIES IN THE NEW GOVERNMENT WILL GO TO CIVIC COALITION, 4 TO THIRD WAY, AND 2-3 TO THE LEFT - MALWINA DZIEDZIC IN TODAY'S ISSUE OF TYGODNIK POLITYKA: “There are many such puzzles. Furthermore, the division of competencies among three ideologically diverse groups is not simple, and voters – as politicians from the current opposition claim – primarily want to see agreement and cooperation, not a war over positions. Therefore, all coalition talks are held at the highest level. – Donald wants to avoid any leaks and speculation, as it will only complicate things, so nobody knows anything. We are not even asking about roles for ourselves, we are waiting – says one of the Civic Coalition MPs. Although there is no shortage of leaks and considerations. It is being said, for example, that according to the parity of seats, at least 10 out of the probable 18 ministries in the new government will go to Civic Coalition, 4 to Third Way, and 2-3 to The Left.”
-- BUDKA WOULD NOT ENJOY THE POSITION FOR LONG ANYWAY – TUSK, OVER TWO YEARS AGO, UPON TAKING OVER THE PLATFORM FROM HIM, PROMISED HIM THE FIRST SPOT ON THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT ELECTION LIST – CONTINUES DZIEDZIC: “For Hołownia, it would be a springboard to the presidency; for Kosiniak – another important point in an already quite rich CV; for Czarzasty – the fulfillment of political ambitions and strengthening his position within The Left club, which has been weakened by a poor electoral result. In turn, Budka would not enjoy the position for long anyway – over two years ago, Tusk, upon taking over the Platform from him, promised him the first spot on the election list for the European Parliament.”

-- THE LEFT HAS ENTERED THE RACE FOR SEJM MARSHAL - IWONA SZPALA AND JUSTYNA DOBROSZ-ORACZ IN GAZETA WYBORCZA: “– This is an element of normal negotiations. Since Szymon Hołownia is ready to take the position of marshal, our leader has also expressed his desire to hold this office – says an important politician from The Left. – Please do not worry, because we are doomed to success anyway, meaning we will reach an agreement – we hear from one of the opposition politicians.”

-- TODAY'S LEFT, WHOSE ELECTORATE IS SHRINKING, REMINDS US NOTHING OF THE RATIONAL SOCIAL DEMOCRACY OF YEARS PAST. THERE IS NO ONE THERE TO MATCH THE LATE FORMER MINISTER OF EDUCATION, KRYSTYNA ŁYBACKA - PRZEMYSŁAW SZUBARTOWICZ ON INTERIA: “The coalition of three ideologically diverse opposition formations will require the art of consensus to be perfected. The first cracks may concern worldview issues, which will manifest during discussions about the staffing of individual positions. Even now, opinions are heard in the camp of the future government that entrusting education matters to The Left is not the best idea. It is hard to disagree with that. Today's Left, whose electorate is shrinking, reminds us nothing of the rational social democracy of years past. There is no one there to match the late former minister of education, Krystyna Łybacka, and Przemysław Czarnek's extreme conservatism cannot be met with politically correct ideology and uncontrolled progress. The school needs wisdom the most today, not extremes.”
-- PEOPLE WILL NOT BE EASILY CONVINCED THAT THE EXPECTED VETOES OF LAWS BY THE PRESIDENT CAN BE TREATED AS AN ALIBI FOR LACK OF EFFECTIVENESS - CONTINUES SZUBARTOWICZ ON INTERIA: “In this sense, the opposition, preparing to govern, must realize that it bears a historical responsibility, which it designed for itself by convincing the sovereign that it is ready to transition from a one-party autocracy to rebuilding a liberal-democratic system. People who massively went to the polls to protest against the vision of Poland pushed by Jarosław Kaczyński will not be easily convinced that the expected vetoes of laws by the president can be treated as an alibi for a lack of effectiveness. Nor will they look indulgently upon those politicians who – to PiS's delight – argue publicly on social media instead of seeking compromises in the quiet of their offices and then announcing them to the world.”

-- THE CBA COULD HAVE USED MATERIALS FROM A SUSPENDED OPERATION, IN WHICH WŁADYSŁAW KOSINIAK-KAMYSZ'S UNCLE WAS ONE OF THE "FIGURES," TO SPY ON THE DEPUTY LEADER OF THIRD WAY - WOJCIECH CZUCHNOWSKI IN GAZETA WYBORCZA: “The first, which was later transformed into the second, was initiated back in 2012 under the PO-PSL government. Initially, the operation was conducted by the Military Counterintelligence Service. Subject: 'Criminal activities in the area of technical modernization of the Polish Armed Forces undertaken by former and current high-ranking state officials.' In one of the threads, the name Zenon Kosiniak-Kamysz appeared, with the emphasis that he is the uncle of the then Minister of Labour, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, today's leader of PSL and the coalition's Third Way.”

-- THE MINISTRY OF DEFENSE MINED BY PIS - PAWEŁ WROŃSKI IN GAZETA WYBORCZA: “One of the opposition's first tasks will be to calm the situation in the armed forces after the resignations of the most important commanders and the chaotic and propaganda-driven decisions of Minister Mariusz Błaszczak. The latter is already threatening resignations and cuts that the new leadership is supposed to carry out. It is already known, however, that the task for the future head of the Ministry of National Defense will not be easy, and on several levels. The previous government leaves a mined field at the Ministry of National Defense.”
-- SIEMONIAK SPEAKS TO WROŃSKI ABOUT MON AGREEMENTS: “– No signed agreement will be broken – assures Siemoniak. – The thing is, on one hand, there are 'framework' agreements, and on the other, execution agreements. Meanwhile, we suddenly learn that the K9 howitzers that have arrived have 15 years, and the planes for which Polish pilots have supposedly been trained are being flown in a parade by Korean pilots – he adds. Siemoniak emphasizes that this promise concerns precisely the execution agreements, which are real, not propaganda, commitments and for which funding sources have been indicated.”

-- LET THIS FINANCIAL RECOVERY NOT KILL OUR DEMOCRACY - JAROSŁAW KUISZ ON INTERIA: “It would be a catastrophe if the economists' advice led PiS not only to a swift return to power but to a constitutional majority after a short pause – in the opposition benches. In the current political conditions, liberalism reduced to one of the economic doctrines may cost us liberal democracy. Let us, therefore, learn from the mistakes that brought PiS to power in 2015. Let's work on obtaining funds from the National Recovery Plan to launch investments in Poland. The list of proposals is a topic for a separate commentary, but for now, let's abandon communicating from the heights of expert cabinets. And let's appreciate Polish voters, who have recently gone to the polls en masse. It is they who prevented our country from becoming another Hungary or Turkey.”

-- FOR PIS, EVERY WEEK IS WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD. IT IS ALWAYS POSSIBLE TO TRY TO HIDE TRACES OF SCANDALS AND IRREGULARITIES, SO AS TO PREVENT THEIR ACCOUNTABILITY IN THE FUTURE - MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI IN RZECZPOSPOLITA: “And for PiS, every week is worth its weight in gold. It is always possible to try to hide traces of scandals and irregularities, so as to prevent their accountability in the future. It is always possible to distribute a bit more public money to friendly institutions. It is always possible to succumb to the temptation of abusing special services to carry out decomposition activities against the opposition according to the security apparatus playbook from the communist era. It is also possible, using politicized public media, to create the impression of chaos on the opposition's side by inflating coalition negotiations into a huge quarrel.”
-- LOOKING AT IT ENTIRELY CYNICALLY, WHAT INTEREST DOES DUDA HAVE IN HELPING THE OPPOSITION? - CONTINUES SZUŁDRZYŃSKI: “Donald Tusk would have a chance to negotiate new conditions for unlocking EU funds if he became prime minister before the end of November. If this does not happen, accessing these funds will be more difficult and will be further delayed. But looking at it entirely cynically, what interest does Duda have in helping the opposition? In giving Tusk a chance to achieve success right at the beginning of his term?”

-- IF DONALD TUSK DESTROYS THE NEO-KRS, THE GATES OF HELL WILL OPEN - TOMASZ PIETRYGA IN RZECZPOSPOLITA: “Even if only a portion of those tried will express doubts regarding previous rulings, the gates of hell will open. On this basis, convicted criminals will be released from prison, and divorces will be annulled, meaning some couples will be bound by the marital knot again. Settled property disputes, inheritance proceedings, along with commercial and consumer lawsuits, will be turned upside down. Our state may struggle with such chaos for decades.”

-- THIS WILL NOT BE A SIMPLE REPEAT OF 2007-2015. IT WILL BE SOMETHING NEW. SOMETHING THAT SEEMS, HOWEVER, WEAKER THAN THE FIRST TUSK - JACEK KARNOWSKI: “Indeed, Tusk will form a majority, but it will be a different majority than in 2007. His position will be much weaker. Not only because he has fewer MPs in the Sejm. Also, because society has no longer been fooled by 'concrete' promises, poses, and witty remarks. Not to the same extent as back then. And this will resonate, I believe, sooner rather than later. (...) What does this mean? One thing: this will not be a simple repeat of the years 2007-2015. Something new awaits us. Something that, however, seems weaker than the first Tusk, also because the memory of the ending eight-year term will quickly return in full glory.”
-- PIS LOST NOT TO THE COMPETITION, BUT TO A SENSE OF BOREDOM AND FATIGUE AMONG SOME VOTERS - CONTINUES KARNOWSKI: “There is some puzzle behind the October decision of Poles. Its political meaning is difficult to interpret unequivocally. Law and Justice did not achieve its goals, but it is impossible to resist the impression that it lost not to the competition, but to a sense of boredom and fatigue among some voters. It lost to national habits of playing a trick simply 'for sport.' Especially when everything is going in the right direction. It lost to the post-political, pop-cultural mobilization of some younger voters, not as a result of conscious, well-thought-out decisions. And this will also resonate in its time.”

-- DON'T SPOIL THIS. THE DEFEATED PIS IS STILL DANGEROUS - JERZY BACZYŃSKI IN TODAY'S TYGODNIK POLITYKA: “Nor can it be allowed that the implementation of the common plan to repair the state be disrupted or paralyzed by the rivalry in next year's double elections, local and European. The Senate Pact has already shown how effective the personal and political alliance of today's opposition can be. And yet, next year the presidential pre-campaign will begin. This will be the first attempt by PiS to retaliate for the 2023 elections, and in time, the coalition should start reaching agreements on this matter as well. The voters gave a strong democratic mandate to the 'united opposition.' And only to such. It would be good not to spoil this.”
