-- 17 YEARS AGO, the publication of an article in Gazeta Wyborcza launched the so-called Rywin affair.
-- 1 YEAR AGO, Bp. TADEUSZ PIERONEK PASSED AWAY.
-- KACZYŃSKI UNWITTINGLY SUPPORTED HUNTERS - writes RZ: “According to sources reached by „Rzeczpospolita”, Jarosław Kaczyński did so unknowingly. After all, as early as the beginning of 2018, he had almost identical provisions on penalties for obstructing hunting removed from hunting law. This time, however, the route that environmental organizations have repeatedly used in the past failed. They conveyed their reservations to a high-ranking PiS sympathizer. This person, in turn, usually informed Barbara Skrzypek, the president’s trusted secretary, via email. An email was also sent regarding the latest special act. However, this time the ecologists were unlucky: Ms. Basia was not at work”. https://archiwum.rp.pl/artykul/1419072-Mysliwi-podeszli-Kaczynskiego.html -- MONIKA OLEJNIK ON ABP. JĘDRASZEWSKI'S WORDS: “400 years ago, Abp. Marek Jędraszewski would certainly have condemned Nicolaus Copernicus’s discovery”. https://wyborcza.pl/7,75968,25546492,grzech-ekologizmu-czyli-teologia-jedraszewskiego.html -- MICHAŁ BORZUCH, ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED DIRECTORS OF THE 30-YEAR-OLD GENERATION, ON PUBLIC DEBATE AFTER "PATHO-INTELLIGENCE" - he says in an interview with Przemek Bollin on the Poptown service: “I feel something good in the fact that people from privileged backgrounds are starting to describe the process of entering adulthood as a pathological experience. I feel something very constructive in this for social dialogue. The last four years, due to Kaczyński’s actions, have brutally highlighted the divisions that have always existed in our society. During this time, the opposition acted, as we still observe, in a thoughtless but defensive manner in the context of democracy, courts, and attempts to violate fundamental rights that were introduced in Poland after 1989. Civic Platform in recent years has lacked self-reflection. How did it happen that Jarosław Kaczyński was enough to make this division so real, so brutal? So painful. There was no reflection, it is only appearing now. It contains the thought that it is not that one side is black and the other is white. Certain neglects, a certain pathology exist regardless of the class we come from”. https://poptown.eu/michal-borczuch-moj-teatr-staje-po-stronie-wykluczonych/ -- A WASTED YEAR OF A HELPLESS OPPOSITION - JACEK NIZINKIEWICZ IN RZ: “Divided PO, confused Lewica, self-satisfied PSL, hermetic Konfederacja. PiS’s competition remains anti-PiS without ideas for Poland”. -- PLATFORM STILL A PARTY OF FAT CATS - NIZINKIEWICZ CONTINUES: “Taking over the Senate went to the opposition’s head. However, Prof. Tomasz Grodzki’s latest “address” brings nothing new. PO is still a party of fat cats. The only visible activity of Platforma is public airing of dirty laundry before the party leader elections. Lewica, apart from rebranding, has not offered anything new. Robert Biedroń turned out to be one of the fastest-falling stars of Polish politics, while Adrian Zandberg does not want to be one, avoiding running in the presidential elections. Lewica thus has a problem with selecting a presidential candidate”. https://www.rp.pl/Analizy/191229676-Jacek-Nizinkiewicz-Stracony-rok-bezradnej-opozycji.html -- RZ EDITOR-IN-CHIEF ON THE PRESIDENT AS KING OF HUNTING GROUNDS AND PARISHES, WHO UNNECESSARILY RADICALIZES THE MESSAGE - as written by Bogusław Chrabota: “Andrzej Duda’s strategy, the king of hunting grounds and parishes, seems most important. For now, he is radicalizing his message and building his position within the core electorate. This is, of course, not enough for him. To win, he will need the center. Paradoxically, however, research shows that he already has it. So why the hawk-like posturing at the beginning of the campaign? It may turn out that this pose will only cause losses that will be irreparable later”. -- RZ EDITOR-IN-CHIEF ON THE PATHETIC BANALITIES OF HOŁOWNIA AND KOSINIAK: “Hołownia and Kosiniak-Kamysz. Research proves that neither of them has so far convinced broader circles of the electorate (just like the author of these words) that it is worth voting for either of them. Nevertheless, everything is still ahead of them; I wish them a successful campaign, and above all, political passion, because droning on about a “non-partisan safety net,” the end of the Polish-Polish war, and the love that should descend from heaven upon both banks of the Vistula, are pathetic banalities”. https://www.rp.pl/Komentarze/191229685-Boguslaw-Chrabota-Andrzej-Duda-startuje-po-sukces.html -- MAY POLISH LEFT DRAW CONCLUSIONS FROM CORBYN - JAKUB MAJMUREK IN KRYTYKA: "Corbyn's defeat is a defeat for a certain idea of leftism that has gained popularity in recent years. The Polish left should also draw conclusions from this defeat. Labour needs a leader who will be able to unite the party, take what is good from Corbynism (sensible economic policy), while sifting out the things that dragged the party down: eccentric positions in international and defense policy, toxic sectarianism, a tone of moral crusade, an anachronistic replaying of battles from decades ago. Sensible people for this task would seem to be Keir Starmer and the aforementioned Nandy – the worst thing the party could do is choose someone from Corbyn’s close circle or a politician from the right wing. Similarly, the Polish left needs Corbyn's courage, but also much more political cunning, pragmatism, and common sense than the leader of the Labour Party ever wanted to show. Let's learn from Corbyn, but also let's not "corbynize" where it is unnecessary". https://krytykapolityczna.pl/swiat/ue/koniec-corbynowania/ -- JAN ŚPIEWAK TO PAWEŁ RABIEJ - DEPUTY MAYOR OF WARSAW ABOUT A BUSINESS CLASS FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA: “And that’s why you flew to Australia in business class, thousands of kilometers, emitting hundreds of kilograms of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, just to tell us that?” -- BIRTHDAYS: Magda Łucyan, Janusz A. Majcherek.
