-- WITH THE 13TH PENSION, PIS WILL CLEAR THE DEMOGRAPHIC RESERVE FUND TO ZERO - GW's JEDYNKA (LESZEK KOSTRZEWSKI): “And with the expenditures for the 13th pension, the budget cannot be balanced. For this reason, the government did not include these costs in next year's budget. Last week, however, PiS MPs performed an accounting trick and pushed through parliament a law that will allow them to use Poles' savings from the Demographic Reserve Fund to pay for the 'thirteenth' pensions. There is currently PLN 42 billion set aside there 'for difficult times' that will come after 2025, when, according to experts, the demographic tsunami will begin and payouts of Polish pensions will need to be increased. According to our information, PiS wants to finance the 'thirteenth' pensions from the Fund in subsequent years as well, which means that by the end of their term, they will have emptied the reserves to zero.”

-- ACCORDING TO A STUDY FOR RZ DESCRIBED BY ZUZANNA DĄBROWSKA, VOTERS LIKED THE "NORMALITY" FROM MORAWIECKI'S EXPOSE (ALTHOUGH IT'S AN IBRIS STUDY): “Among the general respondents, as well as among those who declared they watched the speech, the most frequently mentioned term is 'normality' – indicated by about 37%. Interestingly, voters of Konfederacja attach the greatest importance to this concept – as many as 64% of them mentioned it. The next category indicated was development/progress, indicated by about 20% of respondents, prosperity – 9.9%, and success – 9.3%. The Prime Minister's expose, according to IBRIS analysis, notes a predominance of positive terms and associations. – 87% of indications have a positive tone, and only 14% – negative.”

-- VOTERS WON'T BUY EVERYTHING - MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI IN RZ CONTRASTS MORAWIECKI'S NORMALITY WITH PIOTROWICZ AND THE TELEVISION JOURNAL: “Of course, PiS campaign strategists can convince themselves that this is a well-thought-out game on many pianos, an attempt to reach various electorates. That one can vote for Piotrowicz's candidacy to the Constitutional Tribunal with one hand, and write a speech with the other, where the word 'normality' is conjugated through all cases, and finally offer millions of viewers an evening screening of 'Dziennik Telewizyjny', and the voters will buy it all. No, they won't. And when the first effects of the crisis begin to impact the lives of Poles, PiS politicians will realize it. But then it will be too late to change policy. And no incantations about normality will help then.”

-- LEWICA IS THE TRUE OPPOSITION TODAY, WHICH HOLDS ACCOUNTABLE - TOMASZ SAWCZUK IN KULTURA LIBERALNA: “The return of Lewica to the Sejm with a rejuvenated composition has two basic advantages. Firstly, it reveals the almost terrifying scale of conservatism in a significant part of the Civic Platform environment. Secondly, it turned out that Lewica is better at holding PiS accountable for its governance.
-- LEWICA HOLDS ACCOUNTABLE BETTER - SAWCZUK CONTINUES: “Moreover, at the moment, Lewica is better at holding PiS accountable than the largest opposition group. This was evident not only in Zandberg's speech but also in television studios, where young Lewica politicians point out flaws in right-wing politicians and publicists much more accurately than their colleagues from PO. To be able to hold the government's policy accountable, one simply needs to have one's own views. Then, the discussion ceases to be limited to an exchange of insults and begins to concern real issues.”
-- LEWICA UNDERRATES THE IMPORTANCE OF FOREIGN AND DEFENSE POLICY - SAWCZUK: “PiS is building a welfare state sloppily and unsystematically, while Lewica customarily underrates the importance of defense and foreign policy. Zandberg's accusation supported the more general claim that PiS has not taxed the wealthy, and therefore is not building a welfare state on solid foundations. However, it did not contain an alternative vision of security policy. This is an interesting discussion that can be continued.”
-- SAWCZUK WONDERS IF RAZEM WILL RESIST THE TEMPTATION OF RADICALIZATION, WHICH HAS SO FAR PUSHED THE PARTY OUTSIDE THE SEJM: “The first question is whether the Razem party will be able to resist the temptation of radicalization, which has previously pushed this party out of the Sejm? As I mentioned, Zandberg's speech was generally sensible and moderate, but in some places, a note of radicalism crept in – and it is precisely this note that is largely picked up by his own circle. For example, it is difficult to be surprised that the demand for subsidized diapers and toilet paper (preferably three-ply!), which the party recently announced on Twitter, brings to mind a sentiment towards a centrally planned economy.

-- LEWICA PROPOSES FREE-RIDING AT THE EXPENSE OF THE WORKING - WITOLD GADOMSKI IN GW:“It is astonishing that Lewica, which declares support for the world of labor, simultaneously proposes solutions that encourage free-riding at the expense of those who work hard. It proposes to loosen incentives for work. It vehemently defends those who receive benefits, disregarding those who finance these benefits. It wants to introduce solutions that are as generous or even more generous than those in countries much richer than Poland. This is a dangerous utopia that could lead to economic stagnation or send us back to the PRL era.”

-- JAROSŁAW KACZYŃSKI SUGGESTS BIJAT'S REMOVAL IN GAZETA POLSKA? - FRAGMENTS OF THE INTERVIEW ARE QUOTED BY TVP INFO PORTAL: “This matter will be resolved soon. I don't want to go into details, but just like in life, so in politics, various plot twists happen – said the PiS chairman in an interview for the weekly 'Gazeta Polska,' which will be published this week. – I want to reassure everyone: for us, family matters are the most important, and as long as we are in power, we will not allow anyone to conduct experiments that result in harming children and breaking up families – Kaczyński added.

-- AVOIDED THE SAME OLD TUNE FROM THE PREVIOUS TERM, THE IDEA FOR POLAND FROM THE EXPOSE IS ATTRACTIVE TO POLES - MICHAŁ KARNOWSKI: “Jarosław Kaczyński's camp, however, has an idea for the next four years. Perhaps not ideal, certainly risky in a way, but precise and attractive to millions of Poles. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki outlined it in his expose. It is a proposal consisting of three elements: a strong modernization-welfare course, firm anchoring in conservative values, and rejection of chauvinism. Plus, worth noting, a decisive adoption of some slogans previously appropriated by the left (environmental protection). The worst trap was avoided: still playing the same tune from the previous term. Whoever doesn't think in politics, doesn't change, whoever stands still, doesn't read social expectations in real-time, retreats and eventually loses. There is also a clear announcement that key reforms, including justice, will be continued.”
-- THE MADNESS OF KONFEDERACJA AND LEWICA - KARNOWSKI CONTINUES: “Despite all the admiration for Mr. Zandberg or Konfederacja, they have also revealed great reserves of madness and extremism in recent days. Meanwhile, the old opposition in the form of Platforma sounds increasingly archaic. The opposition sees that PiS's post-election maneuver has succeeded, that this party has the energy to lead Polish affairs for another term. That's why it's going crazy.”

-- KRYTYKA POLITYCZNA SUMMARIZES TUSK'S TWO TERMS IN BRUSSELS - as written by Dominika Gmerek-Pęczek: “Tusk himself ends his term as a winner. He has proven that he is still a player who is reckoned with not only in domestic but also in international politics. He smoothly transitions from the role of a mediator working in the quiet of offices to active politics, taking the helm of the European People's Party. As he himself said during the EPP convention in Zagreb, after five years he is tired of the role of 'chief European bureaucrat' and is ready for further political struggle.”

-- THE ONET SERVICE EXPLAINS WHAT OK, BOOMER IS ABOUT: “Therefore, if you hear that you would have had a house a long time ago, or at least your own apartment, if you hadn't partied, eaten avocado toast, and bought coffee at a cafe, remember that it's the right time to reply: 'ok boomer'. If at the Christmas Eve table your favorite uncle starts pathetically again: 'In your age...', you can wave your hand and say with weariness, 'ok, boomer'.
