POLITICAL STATE OF PLAY: PM Joins Jarosław Kaczyński at Nowogrodzka, GW Poll Suggests PiS May Lose Majority, Bielecki on Transport Commissioner Role, Kwaśniewski Supports Michał Kamiński, Karnowski Calls Opposition Campaign the "Dumbest Since '89"
-- 300POLITYKA: THE PRIME MINISTER RETURNS TO THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL AT 11:30 AM, APPEARING AT NOWOGRODZKA WITH JAROSŁAW KACZYŃSKI.
-- KOWAL DISTANCES HIMSELF FROM WAŁĘSA - 300LIVE: https://300polityka.pl/live/2019/10/07
-- WE USED TO DIFFER GREATLY, TODAY WE FIGHT TOGETHER FOR POLISH DEMOCRACY - ALEKSANDER KWAŚNIEWSKI'S SUPPORT FOR MICHAŁ KAMIŃSKI IN THE SENATE ELECTIONS IN THE WARSAW SUBURBS DISTRICT, WHERE VOTES FROM THE LEFT CAN BE DECISIVE: https://youtu.be/QqEZnwE90ao
-- TRANSPORT INSTEAD OF AGRICULTURE - Tomasz Bielecki in GW on a potential commissioner change: “Moreover, the carousel of new candidates is spinning at full speed, even within PiS circles. Adam Bielan, Konrad Szymański, Jerzy Kwieciński, and even Tomasz Poręba are the subject of speculation. Furthermore, according to our information, Poland is already testing the possibility of a potential portfolio change from agriculture to – also a quite good – transport. This portfolio was slated to go to the Romanian Rovania Plumb in the Commission, but she has been definitively blocked by the European Parliament. In the past, changes of candidates and shifts between portfolios have occurred during the hearing stage.”

-- THESE WORDS SAY MORE ABOUT LECH WAŁĘSA - PM in TELEWIZJA WPOLSCE.PL: “These words say more about Lech Wałęsa and tell everything about him, and nothing about my father. I have a clear opinion about Lech Wałęsa and I regret that in the early 90s he did not admit to being a secret collaborator of the SB, because I, we all would have forgiven him, and Polish history could have turned out much better.”
-- HE WAS A VERY TENDER, LOVED FATHER - THE PRIME MINISTER ON KORNEL MORAWIECKI: “He was a very good, wonderful father. When he was underground, I had to lose contact with him. He built my patriotic and Solidarity profile. He was a warm, tender father, very beloved.”

-- THE PRIME MINISTER INVITES OPPOSITION VOTERS: “What PO politicians are saying is deeply entrenched animosity. However, voters who are currently voters for KO are ordinary Poles, and we want to invite them to our Solidary Commonwealth, which is for everyone. If we make any mistakes, we want to get rid of them in the next term if Poles decide to entrust us with the reins of government. We have also shown that there has been no team that has done so much for the improvement of Poles' lives in such a short time.”

-- WAŁĘSA LANDS BLOWS - the title of a short note in GW about Wałęsa's speech.
-- KORNEL MORAWIECKI IS A GUILT OF CONSCIENCE FOR THEM - MICHAŁ KARNOWSKI: “The figure of Kornel Morawiecki greatly pains many people who were once brilliantly recorded in the history of 'Solidarity.' It pains, and will continue to pain, because he is a guilt of conscience for them. That they strayed from that August path. That they forgot about the workers, condemning them to be the subject of doctrinaire, often very brutal economic experiments (not to be confused with necessary reforms). That they were ready to settle for anything, specifically the Round Table, a solution perhaps sensible in mid-1989, but which for decades afterwards dragged Poland down.”

-- PIS 42, KO 29, LEWICA 13, KONFEDERACJA 5, PSL 4 - KANTAR POLL FOR GW.
-- PIS IS STRONG, OPPOSITION HAS A CHANCE - Krzysztof Pacewicz describes the Kantar poll for GW, TOK, and Gazeta.pl: “It is enough for PiS to lose one percentage point to KO in the coming days and for PSL to cross the threshold instead of Konfederacja, and PiS will lose its majority in the Sejm – according to our poll. (...) With such results, Jarosław Kaczyński's party maintains a majority in the Sejm, but it takes very little for it to lose it. It is enough for PiS's support to fall by 1 percentage point and for Civic Coalition's to increase by the same amount, and for PSL to cross the threshold instead of Konfederacja, and the United Right could lose its advantage.”

-- KRZYSZTOF PACEWICZ ON GREATER MOBILIZATION ON THE SIDE OF THOSE WHO LOST: “Firstly, in Poland, those who lost the last elections usually mobilize, and those who won demobilize. This is not an iron rule, of course, but it cannot be ruled out that this time some PiS voters – convinced of the inevitability of repeating a spectacular electoral victory – might skip the trip to the ballot box, unlike the irritated opposition voters.”

-- JACEK GĄDEK ON PiS'S CEILING - 58%: “If all supporters of PiS's rule – including those who want a broader coalition – voted for Jarosław Kaczyński's party, this support would determine the ceiling above PiS: the aforementioned 58%. Theoretically, this is possible, because at the ballot box, voters make decisions individually, not collectively.”
-- 37% WANT A CONSTITUTIONAL MAJORITY FOR PIS: “In our poll, 37% of Poles want PiS to win a constitutional majority. 21% want this decisively, and 16% respond 'rather yes.' Conversely, 57% are against (46% decisively, and 11% rather no).”

-- IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THAT VOTERS WILL DISMISS THE SCANDALS OF PO - KINGA DUNIN IN KRYTYKA POLITYCZNA: “However, social life does not follow such unconditional laws as the material world. Just because people dismiss PiS scandals does not mean they will treat PO the same way. Especially since the narrative being built around Neumann's statements confirms all the common opinions about PO: they are corrupt, they look down on the provinces and ordinary people, they only care about their own. The form of his statements, to put it mildly, is not endearing. It may not have a significant impact on the elections, but it could have a minor effect. The strategy of media supporting the opposition, which is to silence the matter, is understandable and politically justified. However, it may leave recipients with a feeling of informational deficit, and today we are not tied to a single medium, and all the spicy details of the PO elections will be found in right-wing media. Therefore, I am not convinced that remaining silent on the matter is the best strategy.”
-- PERHAPS THIS MATTER SHOULD BE EXPLAINED TO VOTERS? - KINGA DUNIN CONTINUES: “However, neither Neumann, Schetyna, nor Kidawa-Błońska can convincingly explain this part of the recording. And I can't either. Here also appears one of the most outrageous aspects – the accusation against the then still living President Adamowicz, for whom there are 'hard things that could lead him out in handcuffs.' He was alive and competing with the PO candidate, whom PO supported only in the second round. It cannot be ruled out that at that moment it was simply an insinuation intended to lower his ratings. This kind of casually dropped remark spreads quickly. But that would also be quite nasty. I do not belong to PO's electorate, but I favor the democratic camp, so I would like these issues to be explained, because considering them irrelevant is no longer realism or pragmatism, it is cynicism.”

-- MICHAŁ KARNOWSKI ON TVN'S GYMNASTICS REGARDING NEUMANN: “Unfortunately, this is not the end of this contempt, because the media of the Third Polish Republic mostly kept silent about Neumann's tapes, and on TVN they performed quite a spectacle that evening, trying to explain to people why Mr. Naumann resigned as head of the club – while remaining a list leader. But since there was almost nothing about it before, why did he step down? But let's trust them – they got out of it, it's the old good school from years ago.”
-- KARNOWSKI ON THE INVITATION OF OPPOSITION VOTERS TO THE PRO-POLISH CAMP: “The Prime Minister is right: no one in a democratic country deserves such treatment, it is worthwhile to invite the voters of the Third Polish Republic to the pro-Polish camp.”

-- THE DUMBEST OPPOSITION CAMPAIGN SINCE '89 - JACEK KARNOWSKI: “Schetyna's words allow us, however, to state that the campaign waged by the opposition is the dumbest one that Poles have seen since 1989.”

-- LET'S NOT UNDERESTIMATE THESE ANNOUNCEMENTS, IN HUNGARY ORBÁN REALLY MADE AN ELITE CHANGE - DOMINIKA WIELOWIEYSKA in GW: “The PiS leader says he wants to change the social and economic elites. Let's not underestimate these announcements. In Hungary, Viktor Orbán truly achieved this. (...) Juxtaposing these statements: about new business elites, about Budapest and malicious entrepreneurs, gives us a picture of our future under PiS rule.”

-- MINIMIZING THE BAD CONSEQUENCES OF BREXIT - KONRAD SZYMAŃSKI IN CONVERSATION WITH JĘDRZEJ BIELECKI IN RZ: “From the beginning, we believed that Brexit is a negative event for the Union, but if it is to happen, everything must be done to minimize the economic losses in the short term and political losses in the long term. Therefore, Brexit should be carried out in an agreed manner, which will guarantee citizens' rights, ensure financial settlements, and a transitional period that will help entrepreneurs adapt to the new trade conditions.”
-- IT IS NOT OUR ROLE TO DEFEND AMERICAN INTERESTS - SZYMAŃSKI ON BIELECKI'S QUESTION WHETHER POLAND WILL TAKE BRITISH POSITIONS IN THIS MATTER IN THE EU: “It is not our role to defend American interests. Let Washington deal with that. But Poland, like Great Britain, clearly sees the need to defend the common interests of the West, which include both the Union and America. Our understanding of Polish interests involves minimizing tensions between the EU and the USA. Our policy is balanced! Poland has not once deviated from the common EU position, if one existed. Despite some understanding for US policy towards Iran, we did not undermine EU unity on the agreement to curb Iran's nuclear program. We continue to work on a digital tax in the EU forum, even though the USA does not want to hear about it. We have engaged in projects to strengthen the EU dimension of defense policy, expecting only synergy with NATO. I see here many manifestations of strategic balance, which we indeed must maintain.”

-- IT'S ABOUT BREAKING TRADITIONAL FORMS OF CULTURE - BRONISŁAW WILDSTEIN: “The point is to instill anti-pedagogy into young people's minds and teach them that everything in this area is equal, and sex is simply fun. Young people will swallow this knowledge like a glass of water. The first consequence will be the trivialization of eroticism. In the constant carnival that life is supposed to become according to the emancipatory decalogue, eroticism becomes one of the entertainments and ceases to mean anything. Except that with such an attitude, everything ceases to have weight. However, this is only the first stage. Life cannot be a constant carnival, and such a postulate leads to not-so-carnivalesque consequences. The terrifying consequences of the sexual revolution were perhaps most penetratingly described in the novel 'The Elementary Particles' by Michel Houellebecq. That's why it's not really about carnivalesque liberation, which neither Rubik nor the celebrities reading her wisdom understand. It's about breaking down traditional forms of culture, which will allow lost people to impose any shape they desire, e.g., LGBT, and give power to those who will animate it.”

-- EWA SIEDLECKA ON POLISH JIHAD: “At the Equality March in Lublin last week, a couple was detained with a homemade explosive device. It was intended to be used against the participants of the demonstration. Could the preaching from the pulpits about the 'rainbow plague' have provoked the effect of 'lone wolves' carrying out a private jihad after what they heard from radical imams in mosques in London or Paris?”
