-- THE PRIME MINISTER'S SISTER IN A MOVING CONFESSION TO SE: “From Friday, Dad was unconscious. It was already difficult before, but Dad, though with great difficulty, could still speak... - Marta Morawiecka tells us. And she becomes emotional when she recounts her farewell with her father in the hospital. - I came to say goodbye to Dad while he was still conscious. And I told him: 'Daddy, I love you very much, I want to say goodbye to you, I know you don't have the strength to speak, so please, wink at me.' And Dad winked at me with his whole eye and smiled - adds Kornel Morawiecki's daughter.”

-- JACHIRA WOULDN'T BE SO NOTICED IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE GENERAL STATE OF CAMPAIGN EMPTINESS: “Klaudia Jachira's invasion with her antics, with 'Bob, Hummus, Vegetables' (instead of God, Honor, Fatherland), and then with mockery of the Smolensk catastrophe, is a good illustration of a few observations near the end of the campaign. Certainly, she would not have been noticed so much if it weren't for the general state of campaign emptiness. This doesn't mean it's a campaign about nothing. There are significant differences between the main political forces on a few points, and some consider these elections to be the most important since 1989. Nevertheless, most things have already been said many times over in it. The confrontation has been ongoing since the beginning of the year, one election smoothly flowing into the next. Many topics are also overshadowed by giant projects that boil down to pure handouts.
-- THE PIS CAMPAIGN IS TOUGH BUT AT LEAST SEEMINGLY SUBSTANTIVE: “The current campaign of the ruling camp is tough, but at least seemingly substantive. 'Cisterns of shame' have been used as arguments, but ideological theses and personal attacks are formulated more cautiously and in a serious tone. Making a party banner out of a jester is probably a bad idea.”
-- THE PLATFORM CONFIRMS ALL STEREOTYPES: “Especially since Civic Platform, in its new guise as Civic Coalition, confirms all those stereotypes that the right-wing media injects into it. It evokes the stereotype of a cosmopolitan formation, indifferent to Poland, for which no values are sacred. They just tried, inconsistently but still, to fight it. How many sentences have been uttered about the necessity of embracing community, of taking away the right-wing's monopoly on patriotism, etc. Well, Klaudia Jachira is helping as much as she can. Even Schetyna's recent allies from the PSL felt compelled to condemn her language.”
-- THE RIGHT KNOWS WHAT IT WANTS, IS SOMETIMES RUTHLESS BUT NOT LOST, THE PLATFORM IS ANACHRONISTIC - ZAREMBA'S CONCLUSION: “On top of that, this lady touched upon somewhat forgotten topics, like Smolensk. Is it because she herself knows no other topics? Or perhaps someone suggested to her that the Smolensk catastrophe used to effectively provoke PiS? Only that those times ended several years ago. We are dealing with a right-wing that knows well what it wants, is sometimes ruthless, but definitely not lost. As a result, Jachira, instead of provoking, is flailing herself. And she becomes a living proof of her camp's flailing. A kind of angel of death, a harbinger of defeat. She has become so anachronistic.”

-- TWO PENSION PROPOSALS ARE TO BE THE DECISIVE MOVE OF PIS BEFORE THE ELECTIONS - LESZEK KOSTRZEWSKI IN GW: “According to our information, PiS leadership has two pension proposals for the end of the campaign. One directed at teachers, the other at all other professional groups. - We are closely monitoring the polls, and it will depend on Jarosław Kaczyński when exactly the draft laws will be announced - we hear from someone associated with the government. The PiS proposal for teachers assumes the restoration of earlier pensions, which were in effect a few years ago based on the Teachers' Charter. (...) The second pension project is being coordinated by PiS leaders with the Chancellery of the President. Why? Because it is about repeating Andrzej Duda's promise from the 2015 presidential campaign. Duda then signed an agreement with the head of 'Solidarity' in which the then presidential candidate committed to presenting a project that would allow Poles to retire earlier after demonstrating sufficient work experience.”

-- DR JAROSŁAW FLIS ON THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE PLATFORM INTO A COPY OF THE DEMOCRATIC UNION - IN RZ: “However, when Tusk burned out, and then chose a European career, no one appeared who could stop the Platform's transformation into a copy of the Democratic Union. Another thing is that Tusk pushed out or pacified everyone who could have pulled the party he left behind out of its stagnation.”
-- FLIS ON THE STATE OF THE OPPOSITION: “PiS's victory and its agenda – perhaps more militant than truly radical, and very selectively effective – have led to another turn and a paradoxical leveling of forces. Politicians of the ruling party have rapidly become conceited, showing time and again that they can easily match their opponents in arrogance. The social base of the 'upper' party has begun to show its spite in a race, extending its dislike to all supporters of the ruling party, including those who belonged to the same camp not long ago. Opposition leaders have fixated on simply removing PiS from power, completely abandoning the building of any lasting expert base or real framework for engagement of supporting citizens. Each side could gain an advantage by getting rid of its weaknesses. But both are clearly weakening themselves, by catching each other's flaws from their opponents.”

-- POLES FROM THE PROVINCES DO NOT FEEL LIKE PARTICIPANTS IN A COMMON EUROPEAN SPACE - ANDRZEJ LEDER IN KRYTYKA ON THE SADURA AND SIERAKOWSKI REPORT: “The study also shows that Poles from the provinces do not feel like participants in a common European space at all. They do not perceive going abroad for work as something normal, nor do they imagine immigrants arriving as a way to reduce problems resulting from the flight of young people. So, a conservative appeal to 'residence' and 'family' will likely be popular here. And in sum, this can be easily understood.”
-- THE SADURA AND SIERAKOWSKI REPORT IS ABOUT CLIENTELISM - LEDER CONTINUES: “My interpretation of the report therefore focuses on the dangerous evolution of Polish democracy towards clientelism. This evolution is conditioned, I believe, by the anti-political orientation of Poles and their misunderstanding of the institutional architecture of the state. Finally, last but not least, something very dangerous: treating the language of rationality, including scientific language, as a language of oppression, a language behind which neoliberal oppression and exploitation are hidden.”

-- IF SOMEONE LOST, IT WAS PIS, PSL GAINED - AGATA SZCZĘŚNIAK AND MICHAŁ DANIELEWSKI IN OKO O DEBACIE: The election debate on TVP was listed in TV decoders under the category "entertainment/talk show". There wasn't much entertainment, a bit more emotion, the show was moderate. No one definitively won, it was boring. Only men debated, the PSL leader was the best. Paradoxically, although PiS theoretically benefited from the devaluing of debates, it probably backfired on the ruling camp. Jacek Sasin was mercilessly and collectively beaten by all opposition politicians and did not cope with the criticism, especially from the concrete and energetic Kosiniak-Kamysz. And this is despite the fact that the entire format of the debate (almost devoid of direct retorts, limiting discussion), as well as the moderator Michał Adamczyk, worked for Sasin's success.

-- WHY WAS THE OPPOSITION'S HYSTERIA ABSENT FROM THE DEBATE - JACEK KARNOWSKI: “But the most important thing is what was missing from this debate. And what was missing was the hysteria that the opposition has been feeding Poles for the past few years. During a crucial conversation about Poland, just before the elections, none of the opposition representatives spoke of dictatorship, of fascism, and alleged murderism. As if cut off with a knife. And yet, we are talking about extremely serious accusations, as we heard - even about the be-all and end-all of our democracy, our freedom. Instead, there was sometimes dishonest, sometimes shortcut, but still a debate about real problems.”
-- KARNOWSKI ON BUDKA'S UGLY GAME: “In the debate, each participant achieved their goals to some extent. Opposition candidates showed some energy, strongly attacking Jacek Sasin. He also did his job: he didn't get drawn into a brawl and said what was most important from PiS's perspective. And the debate would probably have been quickly forgotten if not for the matter of the medicine receipt that Borys Budka presented. This issue will certainly not die down quickly. Because if the opposition plays like this, it means they are playing very badly.”
https://wpolityce.pl/m/polityka/466332-najwazniejsze-jest-to-czego-w-tej-debatie-zabraklo
-- JACEK GĄDEK IN GAZETA ON KOSINIAK'S GOOD PERFORMANCE: “The debate on TVP is actually a recitation concert, not a discussion at all. There were a few slip-ups when improvisation was needed. Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz shone rhetorically, and Borys Budka from PO took care of the emotion-stirring prop - the high drug bill for a child. Andrzej Rozenek from the Left was very natural, and Jacek Wilk unsuccessfully tried to revive Konfederacja on air. Jacek Sasin from PiS competently got through the debate.”
-- PSL ATTACHED THE MOST IMPORTANCE - GĄDEK CONTINUES: “PSL attached the most importance to the debate. The leader of the Peasants' Party, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz himself, went to TVP. Other committees fielded second-tier figures. PSL is fighting for its survival and cannot give up fighting for any vote, especially from public television viewers. The winner of the debate would have been the politically struggling Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, were it not for the slip-up with subsidies for Polish farmers.”

-- WILL THE OLD WORLD OF ELITES RETURN - MICHAŁ KARNOWSKI: “So there are no illusions: on October 13th, Poles will decide on a fundamental matter. They will either elect PiS or the 'anti-PiS structural gene'. Either the old world of 'elites' will return, symbolically represented by Mr. Jerzy Stuhr and his contemptuous tirades comparing right-wing voters to rebellious serfs, or the project of elevating Poland to a higher level in every area of our economic, social, and state life will continue. Either theft will return, or money will remain in the hands of Poles and in the budget.”

-- MARCIN FIJOŁEK ON HOFMAN'S THESIS OF PO AND SLD OVERTAKING EACH OTHER: “Even if PiS's victory is not as resounding as they wish in the party's headquarters, then secondly - a fall of the Platform into the second league is possible. If Adam Hofman is right, and it's only a matter of time before there's an 'overtaking' in support for PO and the Left, then Grzegorz Schetyna's party will cease to be the main point of reference for PiS. This would be an almost Copernican revolution.”
-- IT'S NOT JUST WHO WINS THAT MATTERS - FIJOŁEK CONTINUES: “These three issues - the chance for systemic change, a reset on the opposition's side, and finally, the resolution of the fierce struggle in rural and powiat Poland - are also at stake in these elections. What will be the answers to these questions and directions? Much will depend on the distribution of undecided votes (those few percent), on turnout, the scale of the psychological effect of the desire to win - also from the voter's perspective, and even on... the weather. Whoever thinks the elections are in the bag because it's known who will win, is only touching the superficial level of politics. True politics, with a capital 'P', begins much deeper.”

-- THE BEST OF ALL POSSIBLE SCENARIOS IS THE SCENARIO OF INDEPENDENT RULE BY PIS - PIOTR TRUDNOWSKI IN KLUB JAGIELLOŃSKI: “However, looking at the real scenarios – and the most probable seems to be either co-governing with Konfederacja, or a scenario of a destabilized term with shifting alliances and the pulling of MPs through political horse-trading – it appears that among the possible scenarios, the best for Poland is the variant of... continued independent rule by PiS.”
-- GOVERNING WITH THE FAR-RIGHT IN THE NAME OF LETTING PIS COMPROMISE ITSELF IS CONTRARY TO STATE REASON - TRUDNOWSKI CONTINUES: "When there is no real option for the opposition to seize power today, liberal and left-wing voters should also recognize this, for whom Poland's international position and citizens' trust in the state and the political class should be more important values than antipathy towards Jarosław Kaczyński's grouping. The scenario of 'let PiS compromise itself hand in hand with nationalists' might please the leaders of the opposition to the left of PiS. However, it should not bring satisfaction to any pro-European voter who seriously thinks about Poland's state interest.

-- PIS IS DESTROYING INSTITUTIONS - MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI IN RZ: “Unfortunately, NIK is not the first – PiS, by taking over successive institutions, strips them of their seriousness and authority. And it's not about the fact that people associated with PiS are leading them. Jacek Jezierski, once chosen by PiS, enjoyed universal respect. As did the late Andrzej Urbański, during whose time TVP resembled a public medium. Wojciech Hermeliński was nominated to the Constitutional Tribunal by PiS in 2006, but no one questioned his competence. This is about the specifics of this term. For PiS, it is not enough to capture an institution. They must also strip it of its dignity. Our state suffers from this.”
https://www.rp.pl/Komentarze/191009877-Michal-Szuldrzynski-Specyfika-tej-kadencji.html
-- WIKTOR FERFECKI ON THE FAILURE OF THE PRESIDENTIAL EXHIBITION - writes in RZ: “In late autumn, six interconnected spherical tents were supposed to be erected on the grounds of the PGE Narodowy stadium in Warsaw. A 15-meter high tower with a light installation was also to be built nearby. All for the Polish Economic Exhibition, which was to be held on the initiative of President Andrzej Duda and be the culmination of his efforts for domestic business. The inauguration was planned for November or December, so the end of the three-month exhibition would fall at the beginning of the next presidential campaign.”
-- KWIATKOWSKI IS BEING TIGHT-LIPPED - FERFECKI CONTINUES: “The reason for changing the plans? When was the exhibition postponed to? The announcement says nothing about this. Representatives of the Chancellery of the President are also reluctant to provide information about the reasons for the decision. Presidential minister Adam Kwiatkowski is responsible for the exhibition, and he did not find time to talk to 'Rzeczpospolita' on Tuesday. - Meeting with Mr. Minister will be possible at the earliest on Friday - we were told in his secretariat. - This matter is very mysterious - says one of the PiS MPs familiar with the situation in the Chancellery to 'Rz'. - One gets the impression that Minister Kwiatkowski is reluctant to inform even his colleagues about the reasons for postponing the exhibition. It seems that the reason are organizational problems - he adds.”

-- HATRED IS THE HERO OF THE CAMPAIGN - MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI: “So if there is any hero of this election campaign, it is neither PiS, nor Civic Coalition, nor PSL, nor the Left. But it is precisely hatred, which has become one of the main themes of this autumn. And it will also be the winner of the parliamentary elections on October 13, regardless of whether the united coalition wins or a divided opposition. Because the campaign will end, but the hatred will remain.”

-- WE NEED TO GIVE MEANING TO DEMOCRACY - PAWEŁ KASPRZAK IN RZ ABOUT HIS CANDIDACY IN WARSAW: “PiS voters go to the polls believing they are writing history. Opposition voters are engaged in strategic evasions, in unbelievable compromises, attempts to outbid the 500+ populism. They don't believe in any promise of their own political camp. That's why we've lost four times already. We need to give meaning to democracy. To prove that it works. To show it in action. Here and now. I am running, giving voters from Warsaw and abroad a choice instead of party dictate. I demand a debate as a minimum standard of decency towards voters. I don't promise - I do. As always so far in the Citizens of the Republic of Poland movement.”
