Karczewski on Szydło's Candidacy Rejection: 'This is Building Strange, Bad Standards. I am Very Disappointed with This Decision'

- Very bad, first and foremost, because Prime Minister Szydło is a very experienced politician precisely in this area, in the scope of this committee, so this function would certainly have been fulfilled by the Prime Minister with dignity and great professionalism. Prime Minister Szydło received the largest number of votes, so I am very surprised. This is building strange, bad standards. I am very disappointed with this decision. The vote was secret. I'll also mention, as a side note, that our votes in the Senate, which were once secret personal votes, we have made public - stated Stanisław Karczewski in "Sygnały dnia" on PR1, commenting on the rejection of Beata Szydło's candidacy to head the European Parliament's Committee on Employment and Social Affairs.

- I hope this is an incident that will remain behind us, and we will build good standards in the EP and in the EU - emphasized the Marshal of the Senate.

07:34

Karczewski:

Bill on Westerplatte Museum to be Voted on by Senate, Probably Tomorrow

- Probably tomorrow [the bill concerning the Westerplatte Museum will be voted on in the Senate], because we have a very rich agenda, order of business. A lot of points. Today at 9:00 AM we resume deliberations. There will be a report from the head of the CBA, who will speak about the bureau's activities last year. Such information always sparks the interest of senators, many questions, so it will be a long debate, discussion. Tomorrow, a report on the KRS's activities is also planned, so there will likely be a long discussion as well - stated Stanisław Karczewski in "Sygnały dnia" on PR1.

07:39

Karczewski:

Platforma Talked About Tax Cuts, But Didn't Deliver. We Speak and We Act, Because PiS is a Credible Party

- I am convinced that this is the right direction of action [zero PIT for young people], tax cuts, which the Civic Platform talked about, but did not implement. We speak and we act, because PiS is, above all, a credible party, and when we say something, we implement it, and this is a very good solution for young people. We want to attract young people so that young Poles stay in Poland. Not leave for abroad - stated Stanisław Karczewski in "Sygnały dnia" PR1.

07:40

Banaś:

In 10-15 Years, We Can Catch Up to the Standard of Living of German Citizens
If the economic growth rate is maintained, and we are convinced that we will certainly have an advantage and this pace will be much greater than in Germany, then in 10-15 years we are capable of catching up to the standard of living of German citizens - said Marian Banaś in an interview with Michał Rachoń on TVP Info's "Jedziemy".

Bielan on Blocking Szydło in the European Parliament: For Many Brussels Circles, the European Election Results Were a Shock. Today, They Want to Do Everything to Make Our Lives Difficult Before the Sejm Elections

- The reason is the election campaign in Poland. For many circles in Brussels, the result of the European elections was a real shock. They were convinced that Law and Justice, the United Right, would lose the European elections. Many polls indicated this. Today, they want to do everything to make our lives difficult before the elections to the Sejm and Senate – said Adam Bielan in an interview with Michał Rachoń on TVP Info's "Jedziemy dalej".

08:24

Bielan:

PO Leaders Increasingly Believe They Won't Win Elections; They're Counting Swords and State Subsidies. PSL is Certainly Thinking About This.

- A growing conviction is emerging among Civic Platform leaders that they will not win these elections, that they will not gain power after them. Consequently, they are beginning to think, and all parties in this coalition are starting to consider a post-election scenario where they will have to move to the opposition. They are counting their swords, and they are also counting state subsidies and grants. We know that when these parties run together, they will receive less money than if they ran separately. The PSL is certainly thinking about this - said Adam Bielan in an interview with Michał Rachoń on TVP Info's "Jedziemy dalej".

Karnowski on Coalition Talks Among Opposition Parties: On One Hand, We Have a Leader-Centric Party; On the Other, Democracy. Programs Need to Be Harmonized

On one hand, we have a leader-centric party; on the other, we have democracy. Programs need to be harmonized. We need to harmonize a certain program, certain aspirations. The main thing is the program. We, as local government officials, are simultaneously discussing 21 theses. Civic Platform, Civic Coalition has its program congress. PSL also talks about a program. It is much harder to harmonize two such groupings. Great admiration for Grzegorz Schetyna for being able to build the European Coalition” – said the Mayor of Sopot, Jacek Karnowski, during “Rozmowa Piaseckiego” on TVN24.

08:35

Spychalski:

The President Will Not Wait Until the Last Day to Decide on Election Dates

"Certainly, the President will not wait until the last day to make a decision regarding when the elections will take place. At the moment, the President has not made such a decision – nor has he decided when to announce the elections and when the elections are to be held," said Presidential Spokesman Minister Błażej Spychalski on Radio Jedynka.

08:39

Spychalski:

There is no doubt that Westerplatte deserves a proper museum. Gdańsk authorities were unable to build one for 30 years.
"There is no doubt that Westerplatte deserves a proper museum, one that we can afford. Today, the authorities in Gdańsk are making a great fuss about taking over the grounds at Westerplatte. I want to remind everyone that the authorities in Gdańsk have been unable to build a suitable museum for 30 years to commemorate the victims of Westerplatte and to show that World War II began precisely there," said the President's spokesperson, Minister Błażej Spychalski, on Jedynka radio.

09:40

Trzaskowski:

I'm Concerned the PSL is Giving In So Easily and Embracing the PiS Narrative. I Don't Want Any Culture Wars. It's Not My Concern At All.

"I'm concerned that the PSL is giving in so easily and embracing the PiS narrative. The Equality Parade was an event attended by tens of thousands of smiling people, very positive, and there was one incident that harmed all of it. An incident that offended religious sentiments. If we want to stand up for tolerance, we must also tolerate the views of others. Everyone is only talking about that one thing. Not about the tens, hundreds of smiling people, but about that one, scandalous incident. I'm concerned that the PSL is doing exactly the same. At a time when we are defending values, fighting hate, promoting tolerance, teaching that no one should be discriminated against, it's causing such controversy and that the PSL wants to embrace the PiS narrative, that this is a culture war. I don't want any culture war. It's not my concern at all" - said the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, in a conversation with Karolina Lewicka on TOK FM Radio's Morning show.

Ombudsman Writes to Piontkowski: Hasty Reorganization of Schools, Unsupported by Thorough Analysis, Was Bound to Lead to Deterioration of Teaching Quality and Infringement of Students' Rights

The hasty reorganization of schools, unsupported by thorough analysis, was bound to lead to a deterioration of teaching quality and an infringement of students' rights. Students – even those who achieved high results upon completing primary school or gymnasium – did not get into any of the schools they chose. This situation is unacceptable and clearly infringes the constitutionally guaranteed (Article 70 of the Constitution) right to education” - writes the Commissioner for Human Rights, Adam Bodnar, in a letter to Minister Piontkowski.

Public statements by individuals holding public office may give rise to concerns that the problem is being effectively disregarded by the authorities responsible for the functioning of the education system. Recent explanations by Ms. Teresa Misiuk, the Lublin Superintendent of Education, stating that 'not all dreams come true'8, addressed to students, do not constitute an adequate response to the gravity of the problem. The statement by former Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education, Mr. Andrzej Stanisławek, who suggested that students who did not get into any school could look for a suitable one abroad, should also be assessed negatively. These arguments disregard the fact that the current situation in education is caused by specific decisions of the authorities and could have been avoided. Young people, who are convinced over the years of the importance of a good education, realize that the choice of a particular type of school can impact a person's entire future life. Therefore, societal expectations that reforms of the education system will be preceded by an assessment of benefits and losses, and then implemented with the best interests of those they are intended to serve, are justified. I regret to state that the current situation proves that these conditions have not been met” - he adds in the statement.

12:36

Piontkowski:

There are over 100,000 more places than students. Every student will find their place in the system in a high school.

This year, we have over 700,000 graduates from primary and middle schools across Poland. In total, all secondary schools have prepared over 830,000 places. This is a total of over 100,000 more places than the number of students. This clearly shows that every student in Poland will find their place in the system for the next stage of education in one of the country's high schools” - said Minister Dariusz Piontkowski at a press conference.

Kierwiński on Electoral Coalition: We Are Preparing for Every Scenario
The election campaign hasn't started yet. We are preparing for every scenario. Both for a coalition variant and for a scenario where we renew Civic Coalition, meaning a coalition of Civic Platform, Modern, and independent local government officials with the participation of the Polish Initiative – stated Marcin Kierwiński in an interview with Marcin Zaborski on RMF FM. - You are another journalist who calls this some kind of Brazilian telenovela. These are serious discussions among various political parties, of which Civic Platform is the most decisive among all opposition parties. We are saying clearly: we want a broad coalition, we want to recreate the European Coalition, because this is a formula that can defeat PiS – added the Civic Platform politician.

13:04

Kierwiński Asked About Gawłowski on PO's Candidate Lists: 'I Think He Will Be Nominated, and the National Board Will Make Decisions'

- Everything will be decided after July 15. By July 15, the statutory bodies of Civic Platform will be submitting their candidates. I don't know if Stanisław Gawłowski has been nominated. I think he will be nominated, and the national board will make the decisions - stated Marcin Kierwiński in an interview with Marcin Zaborski on RMF FM.

13:31

Kierwiński:

PSL Firmly Insists on a Bloc That, in Our Opinion, Doesn't Offer the Highest Probability of Defeating PiS

- I have the impression that the PSL has indeed adopted this negotiation stance: they want a very narrow coalition precisely because in that narrow coalition they will be able to negotiate more for themselves. This is not thinking in terms of defeating PiS; it's thinking in terms of securing their own interests - stated Marcin Kierwiński in an interview with Marcin Zaborski on RMF FM.

- Since Saturday, we have known that the PSL is still very stubbornly insisting on a bloc that, in our opinion, does not offer the highest probability of defeating PiS. For now, we will try to convince the PSL not to start building a common list by excluding anyone - emphasized the Civic Platform (PO) MP.

15:52

Kłopotek:

PiS will win, so let's not fool people into thinking the opposition can beat them

- I still believe that the best solution for the Polish People's Party (PSL) is to run independently in the autumn elections, under the conventionally named Polish Coalition. I accept what President Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz proposes, which is quite logical, to create two opposition blocs: one left-wing, and the other Christian Democratic with the participation of Civic Platform (PO) and PSL, without Barbara Nowacka and Modern (Nowoczesna). This seems very reasonable to me - Eugeniusz Kłopotek stated in an interview with wPolityce.pl. He added:

"Regardless of whether we go separately, or in two blocs, or even if we went in one bloc – which is unrealistic from our side, we know today, as everything indicates – including the finances, that PiS will win these elections. The only question is by how much? God forbid they win with a constitutional majority. I hope that won't happen."

- Law and Justice (PiS) will win, so let's not fool people into thinking the opposition is capable of winning against PiS - emphasized the PSL politician.

17:10

Head of CBA: I Didn't Know Mr. Falenta Then, I Don't Know Him Today. We Didn't Inspire Anything

- This is yet another attempt to accuse me, Minister Kamiński, Minister Wąsik of being any kind of inspirers. I deny it, I refute it. It is a lie. We did not inspire anyone, we did not know him, I did not know Mr. Falenta before, I do not know him to this day, I have never met him. We did not inspire anything. We were not the clients. We found out the same way as all of you. From the mass media [about the tapes] - stated the head of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA), Ernest Bejda, in a conversation with journalists in the Sejm.

18:02

Piontkowski:

Regarding the Teacher Evaluation System, We Are Withdrawing Proposals Made by Minister Zalewska
- Regarding the [teacher] evaluation system, we are withdrawing the proposals made by Minister Zalewska concerning a new, compulsory method of evaluating teachers. This was intended to result in the so-called 500+ for the best teachers. It met with huge resistance from trade unions, but also from a large part of the community - said Dariusz Piontkowski in an interview with Małgorzata Raczyńska on Polish Radio 24.

18:12

Piontkowski:

In Poland, every child will find a place in high school after primary and middle school. It won't always be the school they chose, but it was the same in previous years.
- Some students, due to reasons such as indicating too few preferences or applying to schools with higher competition, will not be admitted. I can confidently say that in Poland, every child will find a place in high school after primary and middle school. Of course, it won't always be the school they initially chose, but it was the same in previous years. If a particular high school is very popular in a given city, not everyone got into that high school anyway - said Dariusz Piontkowski in an interview with Małgorzata Raczyńska on Polskie Radio 24.

18:14

Piontkowski:

Trzaskowski is Simply a PO Politician. He Might Even Aspire to the Presidency. He Continues to Play Politics. It's a Shame It Comes at the Expense of Children.

- Mr. Trzaskowski is simply a Civic Platform politician, and a very high-ranking one at that. He might even aspire to the office of President of Poland. After all, he was recently a Member of Parliament, before that a minister, and an MEP. He is a top-tier politician. He continues to be a politician, he plays politics. It's a shame that this happens at the expense of children and the stress of a large number of people - Dariusz Piontkowski stated in an interview with Małgorzata Raczyńska on Polish Radio 24.

19:37

Siemoniak:

Talks are ongoing. Schetyna-Kosiniak-Kamysz meeting planned for this evening
For now, talks are ongoing. This evening, Grzegorz Schetyna is talking with Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. Such a conversation is planned. And today he met with Włodzimierz Czarzasty, so these talks are continuing. I consider it a positive that there is little about it in the media. It's not easy to form a coalition – stated Tomasz Siemoniak in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on the program "Events and Opinions" on Polsat News.

19:40

Siemoniak on PSL Politicians' Statements: European Coalition Seems Too Broad for PSL Colleagues, While We Are Strongly Advocating for a Very Broad Approach

- From their [PSL politicians' statements] emerges the PSL's view on how this coalition should look, that the European Coalition seems too broad a formula for our PSL colleagues, while we are strongly advocating for a very broad approach – stated Tomasz Siemoniak in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on the Polsat News program "Wydarzenia i opinie" (Events and Opinions).

19:44

Siemoniak on Kłopotek's Statement: A Strange Lack of Faith. I Don't Know Where It Comes From. The Outcome Is Never Decided

- It's a strange lack of faith. I don't know where it comes from, because it's not as if the election result is predetermined. It's never predetermined. We remember well examples of people certain of victory who then lost those elections – stated Tomasz Siemoniak in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on the program "Wydarzenia i opinie" (Events and Opinions) on Polsat News, when asked about Eugeniusz Kłopotek's statement today.

19:59

Piontkowski:

This Year, the Smallest Cohorts Coincidentally Align. I Believe Minister Zalewska Chose This Cohort, Though Politically It's Not Ideal Given the Upcoming Elections.

- This year, by chance, the cohorts with the fewest students coincide. If this type of change were to happen in one, two, or three years, there would be even more students. I believe that's why Minister Zalewska chose this particular cohort, to try and implement this change. Although politically it's not ideal, because we have elections in a few months - Dariusz Piontkowski said in an interview with Justyna Pochanke on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

20:05

Piontkowski:

Trzaskowski and many other mayors want more powers, yet when they gain them, they ask the ministry for help with problems they can't handle

- I understand that Mr. Trzaskowski sees the situation in education somewhat differently, but at the same time he says that he and many other city mayors would definitely want more powers, and yet later, when they take over those powers, they ask the ministry for what to do with the problems that local governments cannot cope with - said Dariusz Piontkowski in an interview with Justyna Pochanke on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

20:09

Piontkowski:

It's probably some local government officials who are trying to introduce chaos, especially media chaos

- Chaos is probably what some local government officials are trying to introduce, especially media chaos. Let's remember that city mayors are also politicians who behave like politicians, and although today they say they are local government officials, for example, the Mayor of Warsaw is one of the leading politicians of Civic Platform (PO) - said Dariusz Piontkowski in an interview with Justyna Pochanke on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

20:13

Piontkowski to Pochanke: Today emotions are running high, and the state is fueling them further

- Today emotions are running high, and the state is fueling them further - said Dariusz Piontkowski in an interview with Justyna Pochanke on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach" (Facts After Facts).

- Fueling them? - the journalist asked.

- Of course, yes - replied the minister.

- Are we not supposed to show these crying children?

- Of course, we must talk about what is important to people. But we must also show what the situation realistically looks like.

20:16

Sikorski on Blocking Szydło in the EP: "Socialists Gave as Good as They Got"

- Socialists applied the principle of reciprocity. If PiS boasts about blocking their candidate, then they gave as good as they got – said Radosław Sikorski in an interview with Justyna Pochanke on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

20:20

Sikorski:

Why is this education reform even happening? What good comes from this chaos? No one can explain it to me
You're asking about the education reform. It's not just about the frustration and drama of one graduating class. I would like to know why this reform is even happening? What good comes from this chaos? No one can explain it to me – said Radosław Sikorski in an interview with Justyna Pochanke on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

20:25

Schetyna:

WKK says he wants a coalition with PO, maybe with local government officials. I have a slightly different opinion. It's worth building a coalition that has a chance to win against PiS, to win these elections.
We will talk [with Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz] about how to create a good continuation of the European Coalition, meaning the coalition we built for the European elections, in which we united the opposition together and achieved 38.5%. Yes, he says he wants a coalition with PO, maybe with local government officials. I have a slightly different opinion and I believe it's worth building a coalition that has a chance to win against PiS, to win these elections - stated Grzegorz Schetyna in an interview with Monika Olejnik on "Kropka nad i" on TVN24. - These are negotiations that are still ongoing. We have arranged to meet tomorrow, Jacek Karnowski will also be there, a representative, an advocate for local government officials. This is an important element of our conversation and this agreement, and we will try to unify and bring our positions closer - added the PO leader.

20:25

Sikorski:

Working People Are Starting to Feel Like Suckers Amidst Such Social Excess. We Should Unambiguously Support Ambitious Poles Who See Success in Work
Following this intensive European campaign, during which I visited dozens, if not more, locations across Poland and spoke with mayors and thousands of our compatriots, I believe we have a problem in Poland. That is, working people are starting to feel like suckers in the face of the social excess we are currently witnessing. I believe we should unambiguously support ambitious Poles who see their success in work - stated Radosław Sikorski in an interview with Justyna Pochanke on "Fakty po faktach" (Facts After Facts) on TVN24.

20:34

Olejnik to Schetyna: I Feel Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz Has Checkmated You
I have the impression that Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has checkmated you, who deeply regrets that he actually ran in the European Coalition for the elections, because he only got three mandates and believes that the leftward turn taken by the European Coalition and Platforma is making political life difficult for the PSL – Monika Olejnik said to Grzegorz Schetyna on TVN24's "Kropka nad i". - I play chess and I don't feel checkmated. I also believe that building a coalition for these elections and the desire, the importance we place on this coalition winning against PiS, is not about the comfort of one or another party, or politician. We are not in politics to build, to give ourselves and voters a chance, in order to defeat PiS and win elections, because we are fighting for the most important things. This is not a matter of us and the comfort of the PSL, but a difference in perspective on reality. I am in favor of going with a broad variant, similar to the European Coalition, because then you can take advantage of the d'Hondt method of counting votes – replied the PO chairman.

20:37

Schetyna:

We are at the stage of finalizing the coalition. It's a matter of the coming days, perhaps hours

- We are at the stage of finalizing the coalition. It's a matter of the coming days, perhaps hours. I am an optimist and I believe that the coalition will be formed - stated Grzegorz Schetyna in an interview with Monika Olejnik on "Kropka nad i" TVN24.

20:47

Schetyna:

I'm Building a Coalition to Win the Election. I Will Implement the Plan to Build a Bloc for 45%
I am building a coalition in order to win, not in order to eliminate someone from the coalition – stated Grzegorz Schetyna in an interview with Monika Olejnik on TVN24's "Kropka nad i". I am building a coalition to win the election. If someone doesn't agree with this way of building, they won't be in this coalition and will fight on their own for the 5% threshold, because that will be the choice. Either we fight for 45%, or we fight for 5%. I will build, I will implement the plan to build a bloc for 45%, and that is my commitment – emphasized the PO leader.

21:01

Schetyna:

I'm not here to listen to the PSL, but to build a coalition that will defeat PiS

- I'm not here to listen to the PSL, but to build a coalition that will defeat PiS. That's what I'm focused on. Everyone has a right, and it's their business, whether it's MP Sawicki or other MPs - stated Grzegorz Schetyna in an interview with Monika Olejnik on TVN24's "Kropka nad i".

Recruitment Opens for the Supreme Court's Disciplinary Chamber

- The number of vacant Supreme Court judge positions designated for the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court is 6 - states the announcement by President Andrzej Duda regarding vacant Supreme Court judge positions, which we reported on first at 300POLITYKA. The relevant announcement was published today in Monitor Polski.
