POLITICAL LANDSCAPE: Wielowieyska: Tusk Minimized Consultations and Interlocutors, Voters May Feel Uneasy; Śmiłowicz: They Treated Concrete Promises Like Insignificant Scraps
-- PKW's SUBSIDY WITHDRAWALS WILL FROM NOW ON BE A POLITICAL WEAPON - TOMASZ PIETRYGA IN RZ: “Rather, the PKW (National Electoral Commission) will join the political arsenal for fighting political opponents for years to come. Any grouping that finds itself in opposition will have to reckon with its financial report being examined by a not necessarily favorably disposed majority.”

-- THE LIST OF UNREALIZED PROMISES BY THE CIVIC COALITION IS GROWING - DOMINIKA WIELOWIEYSKA IN GW: “The list of unfulfilled promises by the Civic Coalition from the '100 Concrete Actions in 100 Days' program is growing. Donald Tusk's government has been in power for over half a year. Voters of the October 15 Coalition may feel uneasy. Recently, there has been a considerable accumulation of conflicts and disagreements within the ruling camp.”
-- THE CIVIC COALITION NO LONGER HAS A BANK OF IDEAS OR A TEAM OF ADVISORS. TUSK HAS MINIMIZED CONSULTATIONS AND THE CIRCLE OF INTERLOCUTORS - DOMINIKA WIELOWIEYSKA IN GW: “Currently, there is no visible brainstorming within the Civic Coalition regarding some 'grand narrative.' All that can be heard is that while the largest group of the then opposition relied on a broad circle of advisors for ideas during the election campaign, Tusk today has minimized consultations and his circle of interlocutors to the bare minimum. It is surprising that anniversaries such as the 20th anniversary of Poland's membership in the European Union or the 35th anniversary of the June 4 elections, which initiated the Third Republic, have passed without notice.”
-- GIERTYCH TRIED TO RETURN TO HIS OLD WAYS AS AN EXPOSER OF PIS SCANDALS AND REBUILD HIS POSITION - CONTINUES WIELOWIEYSKA IN GW: “Giertych, with the help of Cichocki, tried to return to his old ways as an exposer of PiS scandals and rebuild his position after the abortion vote issue pushed him to the margins of the Civic Coalition. However, there were no revelations; only those who didn't remember articles from a few weeks ago could be excited about it.”
-- MANY EVENTS ARE REFLECTED IN POLLS WITH A SEVERAL-MONTH DELAY. THE PRIME MINISTER FACES A SERIOUS CHALLENGE: HE MUST CREATE A NEW NARRATIVE - CONTINUES WIELOWIEYSKA IN GW: “The Civic Coalition is strengthening its lead over PiS in opinion polls, but this should not lull Tusk into a false sense of security. Many events are reflected in polls with a delay of several months. The Prime Minister faces a serious challenge: he must create a new narrative that is attractive to voters. PiS previously crafted such a narrative.”
-- HOWEVER, THIS IS STILL A PIS PROJECT. AND THE OCTOBER 15 COALITION NEEDS ITS OWN AGENDA - WRITES WIELOWIEYSKA IN GW: “Tusk, having a good ear for public sentiment, is implementing the CPK (Central Communication Port) project, having only made necessary adjustments. However, this is still a PiS project. And the October 15 Coalition needs its own agenda that will evoke positive emotions, national pride, indicate a goal, and, as they say, a roadmap. As of now, this narrative is absent. Without it, Polish politics will be dominated by internal coalition disputes.”

-- THEY TREATED THEM LIKE INSIGNIFICANT SCRAPS; THE COALITION IS LESS EFFECTIVE THAN PIS IN FULFILLING ITS OWN PROMISES - PIOTR ŚMIŁOWICZ IN TYGODNIK POWSZECHNY: “The coalition has already managed to earn a reputation as a formation that treats its own promises with indifference. But did it ever treat them otherwise? (...) The use of the word 'concrete' in the program of the then contenders for power, while setting a deadline of just over three months, showed the politicians' true attitude towards their own written words. They treated them like insignificant scraps.”
-- IN MY OPINION, THEY ARE NOT SUBSTANTIALLY PREPARED AND HAVE NOT AGREED ON MANY MATTERS, WHICH IS WHY THEY ARE BLAMING EVERYTHING ON THE PRESIDENT - PROF. ANTONI DUDEK QUOTED BY PIOTR ŚMIŁOWICZ IN TP: “– I am not convinced by that, because they should be submitting specific draft laws concerning the judiciary and other areas, and then let Duda veto them. However, in my opinion, they are not substantially prepared and have not agreed on many matters, which is why they are blaming everything on the head of state. Just as Kaczyński once justified the dismantling of the Constitutional Tribunal by claiming it would surely block the 500+ child benefit – assesses the political scientist.”
-- AFTER THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS, A DRAMATIC PROBLEM WILL ARISE, BECAUSE IF A CANDIDATE ASSOCIATED WITH THE CURRENT GOVERNMENT WINS, THERE WILL BE NO MORE JUSTIFICATIONS FOR NOT FULFILLING PROMISES - further remarks by Prof. Dudek in Śmiłowicz's article.
-- THE CURRENT RULING TEAM'S CASUAL ATTITUDE TOWARDS ITS OWN PROMISES DISTINGUISHES IT FROM PIS - CONTINUES PIOTR ŚMIŁOWICZ IN TYGODNIK POWSZECHNY: “Nevertheless, the current ruling team's casual attitude towards its own promises distinguishes it from PiS. This formation, at least in public perception, did fulfill its election pledges. Above all, the '500 plus' postulate, which was most important for its supporters, meant that they later overlooked how many promises remained on paper.”

-- 100 MILLION PLN FOR THE WARSAW UPRISING MUSEUM. THIS IS EXACTLY THE KIND OF POLICY WE NEED - ESTERA FLIEGER IN RZ: “When it comes to historical policy, I most often complain that liberals do not want to pursue it, and the right wing cannot. This time it will be different. I am very pleased that Prime Minister Donald Tusk has decided to allocate 100 million PLN for the expansion program of the Warsaw Uprising Museum.”

-- THE GERMAN PRESIDENT DID NOT REPEAT BRANDT'S GESTURE; THE ASSURANCE THAT THE GOVERNMENTS OF BOTH COUNTRIES REMAIN IN CLOSE CONTACT REGARDING THE PAYMENT OF SOCIAL ASSISTANCE TO THOSE WHO SURVIVED THE OCCUPATION SOUNDED PETTY, IF NOT PATHETIC - JĘDRZEJ BIELECKI IN RZ: The assurance given to the last surviving insurgents that the governments of both countries remain in close contact regarding the payment of social assistance to those who survived the occupation sounded petty, if not pathetic.”

-- PUNISHING THE COMMENTATOR, SEVERELY (HERE THE RPO IS RIGHT), BECAME THEREBY A FUNDAMENTAL VIOLATION OF DEMOCRACY, AND BABIARZ BECAME A MARTYR SUFFERING FOR SPEAKING THE TRUTH HE BELIEVES IN. THE OPINION ABOUT THE "ATTACK ON TVP" AND CENSORSHIP IN REVERSE WAS ALSO CONFIRMED - PIOTR PACEWICZ IN OKO.PRESS: “But once the damage was done, it was foolish to take Babiarz's statement deadly seriously and solemnly. It gained the status of a statement equivalent to others, a respectable opinion. Punishing the commentator, severely (here the RPO is right), thus became a fundamental violation of democracy, and Babiarz became a martyr suffering for speaking the truth he believes in. The opinion about the "attack on TVP" and censorship in reverse, allegedly initiated by the new authorities, was also confirmed. Reminding people of photos of a smiling Babiarz, alongside Holecka, next to Jacek Kurski, will not help much here.”
