STATE OF PLAY: Wielowieyska: Tusk Believes Stopping the Migrant Wave Aids the Fight Against Racist Rhetoric, Zaremba: Recent Elections Should Teach Kaczyński That His Directives Are Not Necessarily Treated as Gospel
-- VOICES ARE EMERGING WITHIN THE RAZEM PARTY ABOUT LEAVING THE LEAGUE CLUB - ANNOUNCED MARCELINA ZAWISZA, A MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FROM THAT FORMATION. AS SHE ADDED, "THIS IS NOT COMPLETELY OUT OF THE QUESTION." THE DEPUTY HEAD OF THE LEAGUE CLUB ALSO ANNOUNCED THAT THIS TOPIC WILL BE ADDRESSED ON SUNDAY AT THE GROUP'S NATIONAL COUNCIL - INTERIA:

-- WILL A DIVIDED LEFT DELIVER ON A LEFTIST AGENDA? - AGNIESZKA WIŚNIEWSKA IN KRYTYKA POLITYCZNA: "The question hangs in the air whether a divorce will occur within the Left. One could also – following Adrian Zandberg's words – ask whether a divided Left will more quickly implement a leftist agenda? Or whether a united Left, but outside the government, will better deliver on leftist postulates, push through more leftist laws or amendments to laws?"
-- ONE THING IS CERTAIN – POLITICIANS WHO ARE NOT IN PARLIAMENT WILL NOT REALIZE ANY AGENDA AND WILL NOT PUSH THROUGH ANY LAWS - WIŚNIEWSKA CONTINUES IN KP: "One thing is certain – politicians who are not in parliament will not realize any agenda and will not push through any laws. An extra-parliamentary Left can create social movements, NGOs, think tanks. It can generate intellectual ferment, offer ideas and solutions, support the drafting of laws, but ultimately, on Wiejska Street [the Polish Parliament], a button is pressed "yes" or "no" for those laws. And that's where a strong Left is needed."

-- TUSK CONNECTS AND HAS CONNECTED THIS REALISTIC BORDER POLICY WITH COMBATING ALL FORMS OF RACISM AND XENOPHOBIA - DOMINIKA WIELOWIEYSKA IN GW: "Tusk's line has been consistent since the 2015 migration crisis: sealed borders and stopping the influx of migrants at all costs. But, and this must be emphasized, while criticism of the Prime Minister is growing on the liberal-left for 'Operation East' and regulations to strengthen the military and border services, Tusk has always linked and continues to link this realistic policy with combating all forms of racism and xenophobia. PiS is using the situation on the border, exacerbated by Belarusian services, in a similar way to how they have used every migration crisis over the past 9 years: they are disseminating a racist spot online that portrays every citizen with skin color other than white as a criminal. They are inciting hatred against foreigners, many of whom live and work in Poland thanks to the fact that Mateusz Morawiecki's government loosened visa policies for residents of Asia and Africa."
-- THE FACT THAT PO BROADCAST THAT SPOT DURING THE CAMPAIGN IS A SCANDAL - WIELOWIEYSKA CONTINUES IN GW: "For the sake of fairness, PO's pre-election spot from September 2023 struck a similarly scandalous tone. In terms of content, it was true – the PiS government, in search of cheap labor, invited a multitude of citizens from African, Asian, and Middle Eastern countries, and at least several hundred visas were sold for bribes. But the presentation, the images of migrants, the music, the narrator's tone were designed to evoke terror and fear of people with dark skin. The fact that PO broadcast that spot during the campaign is a scandal."
-- TUSK'S RESPONSE COULD BE: IF NOT FOR MY STRATEGY, PIS WOULD STILL BE GOVERNING AND IT WOULD BE EVEN WORSE. BECAUSE PUBLIC SENTIMENT IS UNEQUIVOCAL - WIELOWIEYSKA FURTHER STATES.
-- TUSK BELIEVES THAT PREVENTING THE MIGRANT WAVE AIDS THE FIGHT AGAINST RACIST RHETORIC - WIELOWIEYSKA CONTINUES: "Tusk's strategy is precisely calculated to mitigate these potentially dangerous toxic emotions. Tusk believes that stopping the migrant wave aids the fight against racist rhetoric, whereas an uncontrolled influx will inevitably strengthen racism, as certain social processes, such as aversion and fear of strangers, cannot be controlled."

-- AT THE BELARUSIAN BORDER, ZIOBRO'S WAY OF THINKING IS PREVAILING - MARCIN MATCZAK IN GW: "But that's not enough – we want soldiers to be able to use their weapons in violation of the rules and not be held responsible for it. Thus, Zbigniew Ziobro is propagandistically winning, who for years has been sheriff-like encouraging Poles to change the rules of self-defense. (...) We, Poles, consider diplomacy a weakness. We love to flex our muscles, say we won't give up an inch, and reminisce about the Winged Hussars. Deep down, in the Polish soul, we scoff at Geremek and his pipe, and we respect Duda and Błaszczak when they parade in camouflage uniforms. Although it was the former who, by bringing us into NATO, did a million times more for Poland's security than any field exercise theatrics. We judge by appearances, mistaking dwarfs for giants. (...) Violence is the weapon of the weak, and our fascination with violence only confirms our weakness."

-- KACZYŃSKI IS INVENTING A BETTER DUDA - PIOTR ZAREMBA IN RZ: "The PiS candidate for president is to be someone palatable to Krzysztof Bosak's and Sławomir Mentzen's voters, but also someone who opens the party to the center. Associated with the PiS environment, but not necessarily with its governments. Inventing someone like that requires a miracle."
-- CAN UNFULFILLED PROMISES BE COVERED UP WITH THE SLOGAN: HOLD PIS ROGUES AND THIEVES ACCOUNTABLE? ONE CAN DOUBT IT - ZAREMBA CONTINUES IN RZ: "Added to this will be dissatisfaction with rising energy prices, also partly linked to the European Union's climate policy. Unfulfilled 'domestic' promises will also emerge – 20% increases for the public sector are impossible, and this is just one example of the unfeasibility of the new government's flagship promises. Can this be covered up with the slogan: hold PiS rogues and thieves accountable? One can doubt it."
-- NAMES ARE ALSO BEING MENTIONED: FORMER MINISTER OF DEVELOPMENT PIOTR NOWAK, MP AND FORMER VOIVODE OF WEST POMERANIA ZBIGNIEW BOGUCKI - ZAREMBA CONTINUES: "The former voivode of Mazovia seemed to be submerged in defeat in Warsaw in his clash with Rafał Trzaskowski. But when he secured a mandate, running from second place on the list in the European elections, also in Warsaw, he returned to the game. Other names are also being mentioned: former minister of development Piotr Nowak, MP and former voivode of West Pomerania Zbigniew Bogucki, or even the head of the IPN, Karol Nawrocki, who avoids party affiliations. The criteria are articulacy, a certain type of media proficiency, while adhering to principles."
-- THE RECENT ELECTIONS SHOULD PROVIDE KACZYŃSKI WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THE WORLD IS CHANGING, AND HIS DIRECTIVES ARE NOT NECESSARILY TREATED AS GOSPEL - PIOTR ZAREMBA WRITES FURTHER: "The recent elections should provide Kaczyński with the knowledge that the world is changing, and his directives are not necessarily treated as gospel, even by loyal voters following the general line. The example of insisting on Jacek Kurski's candidacy in Mazovia, personally praised by the party leader at election rallies, is instructive here. But why did so many candidates from further down the list overtake the former TVP CEO? Was Kurski's television propaganda considered rubbish even by PiS supporters? Or perhaps due to the ostentatious cynicism of this figure, demonstrated, for example, on the occasion of a second, very ostentatious wedding after the annulment of the previous sacramental union?"
-- SUCH AN END FOR ZIOBRO'S PARTY WILL LIKELY STRENGTHEN THE CONFEDERATION'S RESISTANCE TO TYING ITSELF TOO CLOSELY TO PIS. KRZYSZTOF BOSAK, WHO IS WELL-REGARDED BY MANY RIGHT-WING VOTERS, WILL EVEN MORE STRONGLY BELIEVE IN HIS LUCKY STAR - ZAREMBA FURTHER IN RZ: "The announced absorption of Suwerenna Polska [Sovereign Poland] by PiS could be considered a success. The differences between it and PiS in opposition have blurred, and Zbigniew Ziobro's illness is accelerating this process. At the same time, it means taking on even more of the burdens of this milieu, which turned the Ministry of Justice into a tool to support its own interests. And one more thing: such an end for Ziobro's party will likely strengthen the Confederation's resistance to tying itself too closely to PiS. Krzysztof Bosak, who is well-regarded by many right-wing voters, will even more strongly believe in his lucky star then."

-- IS THE GOVERNMENT ABANDONING ECOLOGY? THE RIGHT-WING NARRATIVE IS WINNING, AND TRAPS AWAIT THE COALITION - MARCEL WANDAS IN OKO.PRESS: "The government is not succeeding in convincing voters of the importance of climate policy, and the right-wing is gaining ground by criticizing it. The coalition is therefore in a dilemma or capitulating to anti-ecological demagoguery. With such an attitude from the government, the building directive could become another problem for them."
-- DESPITE EVERYTHING, ONE CANNOT BE SURPRISED THAT THE DIRECTIVE CAUSES FEARS. THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT DOING ENOUGH TO ALLEVIATE THEM AT THE MOMENT - WANDAS CONTINUES IN OKO: "Despite everything, one cannot be surprised that the directive causes fears. The government is not currently doing enough to alleviate them. We asked the ministry responsible for their implementation about the plans surrounding the new regulations. We learned, among other things, that an information campaign is only planned, and a detailed strategy for the building revolution will be known by the end of the year. Something is known about its financing. Building thermal modernization will be supported, among others, by anti-smog programs Clean Air and Stop Smog, or the Thermal Modernization Fund. We will be supported primarily by funds from the KPO [National Recovery Plan]."
-- IT IS POSSIBLE THAT SZYMON HOŁOWNIA HAD TO CURB HIS ECOLOGICAL AMBITIONS IN THE COALITION WITH POLSKIE STRONNICTWO LUDOWE - WANDAS WRITES: "It's not just Donald Tusk who is acting as the brake. We have already written about the difficulties of the climate ministry, controlled by Polska 2050, where revolutionary aspirations are hard to discern. It is possible that Szymon Hołownia had to curb his ecological ambitions in the coalition with Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe. In tandem with Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, he emphasizes that the fight for the climate will be in vain if Poland faces an armed conflict with aggressors from the East in the near future."

-- "SOME RYMKIEWICZ" WILL NOW STICK TO BARBARA NOWACKA'S NAME. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT IN A FEW YEARS THE CURRENT HEAD OF THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION WILL BE REMEMBERED MAINLY FOR THIS ARROGANT DISPLAY - PIOTR ZAREMBA IN INTERIA: "When I first read this on some portal, I was convinced it was a fake. But when increasingly reliable media repeated it, I understood that it was a faithful record of the words of an important figure in this government. Who is responsible for educating young Poles. (...) 'Some Rymkiewicz' will now stick to her name. It is possible that in a few years she will be remembered mainly for this arrogant display. Or perhaps a moment will come when she is completely forgotten. I believe that there will still be people reading, if only out of curiosity, Jarosław Marek Rymkiewicz."
