-- MINISTER OF HEALTH TODAY WITH KRZYSZTOF SKÓRZYŃSKI ON SPRAWDZAM, TVN24 AT 8 PM. -- FAKT ON THE FRONT PAGE: IS EVERYTHING STILL UNDER CONTROL? -- 4700 NEW CASES, KARCZEWSKI ON CONSEQUENCES FOR PIS SENATORS, MUELLER ON SPACE LIMITATIONS - 300LIVE: https://300polityka.pl/live/2020/10/09/ -- TUSK OPTED FOR HYENA-LIKE BEHAVIOR - MICHAŁ KARNOWSKI: “The Swedish Academy awards Nobel Prizes in Medicine, but also – as announced today – in Literature. They read poetry while people die. French President Emmanuel Macron is celebrating the results of the New Caledonia referendum, which means this overseas territory will remain part of the Republic. And people are dying in Paris. Sporting events are taking place, and Tusk probably watched a few matches. In other words, humanity tries to live despite difficulties, tries to enjoy many events, and political struggles and elections are also underway. Yet, none of these leaders, no government, has been subjected to such a contemptuous post as Donald Tusk has directed at the Polish government. Not one. Not the Germans, not the French, not the Czechs. Although they all tried and are trying to live normally, just as Poles have tried and are trying. Mr. Tusk knows that the public opinion there would find this type of turbo-populism embarrassing. That's why he only serves it to Poles and only in Polish. I wondered if Donald Tusk would also resort to hyena-like behavior on the topic of coronavirus. He did.” https://wpolityce.pl/polityka/521175-zastanawialem-sie-czy-i-tutaj-tusk-postawi-na-hienowatosc -- RUSSIAN PROPAGANDA AND CONFEDERATION ON MASKS - TOMASZ SAKIEWICZ: “These voices were very strongly supported online by Russian propaganda, which was exceptionally pleased that Poles would expose themselves to the second wave of the pandemic. And it happened. The worst part of all this is that many young politicians of Konfederacja, for example, do not face the same risks as older people, whom they might infect, or similar individuals who succumbed to encouragements to disregard the pandemic. We should congratulate those politicians who, perhaps, should now take responsibility for these victims.” https://m.niezalezna.pl/356642-badzmy-odpowiedzialni -- GOVERNMENT REDUCTION ONLY ON PAPER, BUT THE CRISIS CAN BE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR REAL STATE GOVERNANCE REFORM - MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI IN RZ: “The state must be effective above all. The postulate of a cheap state too often resulted in us receiving a cardboard state. Therefore, instead of making populist promises of slimming down the government – which often end with the creation of new positions while abolishing old ones – it would be good to carry out a real reform of the state governance system. The upcoming crisis could become an excellent opportunity for such a reform. So it is not too late yet.” https://www.rp.pl/Polityka/310089913-Michal-Szuldrzynski-Redukcja-rzadu-tylko-na-papierze.html -- THE PRESIDENT IS NOT CREATING A "SALON OF THE EXILED" IN THE CHANCELLERY, QUITE THE OPPOSITE - HE SENSED KACZYŃSKI'S WEAKNESS - JACEK NIZINKIEWICZ IN RZ: “Those who think the president is creating a "salon of the exiled" in the Chancellery are mistaken. Quite the opposite. Andrzej Duda sensed Jarosław Kaczyński's weakness. The PiS leader is no longer the all-powerful ruler of Poland. He is dependent not only on the will of his coalition partners from Solidarna Polska and Porozumienie, but he is at the mercy of the president, armed with a veto. The main center of power is no longer solely at Nowogrodzka Street.” -- A NEW TERM IS AN ASSERTION OF INDEPENDENCE - CONTINUED BY NIZINKIEWICZ: “The place he occupies in history will depend on the nature of President Duda's second term. The new term will be an assertion of independence from PiS. This does not have to mean war. It is enough if the president initiates proposals and indicates directions of change that PiS should adopt. The leader must start treating the president as an equal partner. Duda has already repaid Kaczyński for the life opportunity. He owes the second round mainly to himself. Now it's time to become the real head of state, accountable only to God, history, and the law, not to a party and its leader.” https://www.rp.pl/Polityka/310089914-Jacek-Nizinkiewicz-Kancelaria-Prezydenta---nowy-alternatywny--osrodek-wladzy.html -- BOGDAN BORUSEWICZ ON THE FACT THAT THIS IS NOT A LAW THAT CAN BE DISMISSED WITH A WAVE OF THE HAND - in conversation with Zuzanna Dąbrowska in RZ: “I think so too. The more time we have, the more problems we see this law brings. This is not a law that can be dismissed with a simple wave of the hand.” https://www.rp.pl/Polityka/310089930-Bogdan-Borusewicz-Obrady-prowadze-w-maseczce.html -- ON THE BACKGROUND OF THE EMILEWICZ AND GOWIN CONFLICT - MAGDALENA KURSA IN MAŁOPOLSKA GW: “One of the Porozumienie MPs reveals: – We had a very emotional meeting then. It took place in the Ministry of Science. Gowin explained why he disagreed with the May 10 elections, he spoke a lot about the epidemic threat. Then others presented their arguments, and finally, Emilewicz spoke. She spoke for over half an hour. She warned that in the midst of a pandemic, the country couldn't risk a crisis, the collapse of the government. She suggested that the postal voting project should be supported now, as it could be improved in the Senate or rejected at the last moment. In an internal party vote, most MPs did not support Gowin's idea to vote against postal elections – says one of the Porozumienie activists, admitting that the reason for their decision might not have been Emilewicz's speech, but the MPs' attachment to the coalition with PiS. – In any case, it was a shock for Jarosław. He realized that he no longer controlled his party. They then went with Emilewicz to a meeting with the Prime Minister and the PiS leader. That's when he resigned and recommended Jadwiga for Deputy Prime Minister.” -- PAWEŁ KOWAL COMPLIMENTS EMILEWICZ: “Paweł Kowal, a PO MP, formerly of PiS and Polska jest Najważniejsza: – Jadwiga is very competent. If I had to describe her in one word, I would choose: activity. She doesn't leave tasks unfinished; she always tries to solve problems. This principle guides her throughout her career. She also has charisma, in the sense that she can mobilize people to action – adds Paweł Kowal, who met Jadwiga Emilewicz over 20 years ago in Krakow at the Jagiellonian Club. – During her work in the government, a problem for her might have been a lack of independence. When she negotiated regarding the "troika" or prepared the first or second shield, she consulted projects with the opposition, but quickly realized that being a deputy prime minister was not enough to have agency and make decisions independently – adds Paweł Kowal, noting that Jadwiga Emilewicz's presence in the United Right government might have pleased Jarosław Kaczyński. – He likes women like that in politics – professionals focused on what they do, not overly emphasizing ideological issues.” -- EMILEWICZ REMINDED GOWIN OF GREEN CONSERVATISM WHEN HE OPPOSED THE "FIVE FOR ANIMALS" ACT: “The final nail in the coffin of their friendship was the "fur law." Emilewicz was annoyed that at a meeting with the youth wing, ecology was the first point, that for three years she herself had championed green conservatism, and now Gowin wanted to support the fur industry. – In summary, these disputes were of little importance anyway, because we all knew that on that day, it wasn't about fur, but about the amnesty law, which was a power struggle between Ziobro and Morawiecki – adds a Porozumienie MP.” https://krakow.wyborcza.pl/krakow/7,44425,26379637,mistrz-i-jadwiga.html -- THE BIGGEST WINNERS AND LOSERS OF THE CRISIS ON THE RIGHT ARE IN POROZUMIENIE - WOJCIECH WYBRANOWSKI IN WP: “The biggest winners and losers of the crisis within the United Right (and the storm surrounding the government reshuffle) must be sought in Jarosław Gowin's marginal Porozumienie. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki emerges from the bickering unscathed, Zbigniew Ziobro received several strong blows, but he has not yet left the ring.” -- GOWIN SKILLFULLY USED THE SITUATION - CONTINUED BY WYBRANOWSKI: “Meanwhile, the old saying that 'in politics, one never says never' proved true. The politician from Krakow and his associates very skillfully used the conflict that erupted within the United Right over the "covid law" and the actions of Zbigniew Ziobro's people (considered disloyal by PiS) to not only rebuild the position of a valuable ally but also to return to government, regaining the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Development and Labor simultaneously.” -- ZIOBRO OVERBID, MEMORIES OF THE SCHISM HE CAUSED 9 YEARS AGO RESURFACE - CONTINUED BY WYBRANOWSKI: “Zbigniew Ziobro, who bid high, overbid, and ultimately said "pass," is also difficult to count among the winners of the government reshuffle today. And it's not just about the number of government ministries. The Minister of Justice, who caused the most serious split in Law and Justice in 2011, had to work for a long time to regain Jarosław Kaczyński's trust. He managed to do this mainly because for the last few years, Gowin was considered (not without reason) at PiS headquarters to be a less loyal and more unpredictable partner than Ziobro's faction. Ziobro's secessionist move in the "covid law" matter caused memories from 9 years ago to resurface in Kaczyński's party – the rebellion of Ziobro's followers and the split in the party.” https://opinie.wp.pl/wybranowski-jak-gowin-z-emilewicz-czyli-o-przegranych-i-wygranych-w-zjednoczonej-prawicy-opinia-6561772401629696a -- ANDRZEJ STANKIEWICZ ON THE "HUNT FOR BEATA SZYDŁO": “However, it was enough for Szydło herself to convince Onet journalists that it was a complete coincidence that her son's father-in-law rented a forester's lodge for a pittance, which Błażej Szydło and his wife can use. That the Prime Minister's acquaintance with the head of Krakow foresters, who approved the rental, is irrelevant. That Madam, Sir, and editors Czernich and Serafin – the authors of the articles – can also rent a forester's lodge for 400 zlotys. That when Beata Szydło, as Prime Minister, appointed her son's father-in-law as chairman of the Forestry Science Council, Poland needed it, because the father-in-law is – presumably – an expert of unique, world-class, irreplaceable caliber. In any case, if there are forester's lodges for PLN 388 anywhere in Poland – like the one rented by the Prime Minister's son's father-in-law – I'll be the first in line. And you, please, form an orderly queue behind me – maintaining social distance, of course.” https://www.onet.pl/informacje/onetwiadomosci/newsletter-onetu-andrzej-stankiewicz-polowanie-na-pania-premier/en4f3pp,79cfc278 -- BREAKING THE STEREOTYPE OF SOY LATTE AT ZBAWIX - NEW MEMBERS OF THE RAZEM PARTY BOARD (Paulina Matysiak and Bartosz Grucela) IN CONVERSATION WITH JAKUB MAJMUREK IN KRYTYKA: “P.M.: That's a malicious stereotype. It was only missing soy latte at Zbawix. B.G.: I'm a simple guy from Olsztyn and I never drank soy latte there. We are truly present not only in parliament; we meet and work with people. For example, I am active in the Kormoran council in Olsztyn, where, along with other residents, we intervene to ensure that cars can leave one of its streets, even though I myself ride a bicycle – even on vacation. By working with people on local issues, solving their problems, we are breaking this stereotype.” -- PIS VOTERS VOTING FOR THE LEFT HAVE A CHANCE FOR AN EQUALLY GOOD, IF NOT BETTER, ECONOMIC POLICY, BUT WITHOUT INTERNATIONAL EMBARRASSMENT: “B.G.: I would add social equality and justice to this narrative. These are the ideas that guided us when we founded the party in 2015. These slogans are also close to the voters of the United Right. Many of them have very egalitarian views. Our task is to show them that by voting for the left, they have a chance for an equally good, if not better, economic policy, but without all that international embarrassment.” https://krytykapolityczna.pl/kraj/nowy-zarzad-razem-wywiad-majmurek/ -- PEOPLE HAVE UNLEARNED TO READ SYMBOLS, METAPHORS, THEY TAKE EVERYTHING LITERALLY - AGNIESZKA HOLLAND IN A VERY INTERESTING INTERVIEW WITH DAGMARA ROMANOWSKA ON ONET: “This has been irritating me for a long time too. Olga and I discussed this during our work on "Spoor" and then, observing the reception, especially in Poland. It seems as if people have unlearned to read symbols, metaphors, or other figures of speech. People took everything very literally, as if it were not an artistic statement, but an instruction manual.” -- IT'S NOT LIKE COMMUNISM WAS SO RATIONAL - CONTINUED BY HOLLAND: “The Czechs did not entirely reject these types of alternative methods. As a student in Prague, I came across scientific research on various parapsychological phenomena conducted at an institute in Pilsen. Russians approached it practically, as I discovered when I was Krzysztof Zanussi's assistant on the film "Iluminacja" – an essay on the boundary between knowledge and faith. Zanussi entrusted me with preparing documentation on this subject. I reached an astrologer and a palm reader. Most importantly, I saw footage recorded in Leningrad, where the Institute of Technical Parapsychology operated. The Soviets were very interested in this and used people with such abilities, among other things, to search for minerals or water. It's not like communism was so rational. However, Mikolášek got into trouble for something else – his independence, money, and influence were glaring.” -- THE CZECH REPUBLIC IS A MUCH HAPPIER COUNTRY - CONTINUED BY HOLLAND: “Making a film or a series is always a kind of escape from reality. Fiction suddenly becomes so important that it wins over everything else. Being in the Czech Republic is also a respite. I always felt at home in Poland if I encountered any reactions from people, and they were favorable. Now, since the "good change" has taken hold and our society, which has been too easily polarized, has been divided, I never know if someone won't want to spit at my feet. Something like that is unthinkable in the Czech Republic, even though their government is not the nicest either. However, today, Czechs preserve a huge sphere of private life for themselves, not allowing politics or some aggressive top-down ideology to interfere with it. In this regard, it is a much happier country.” https://www.onet.pl/film/onetfilm/agnieszka-holland-o-filmie-szarlatan-komunizm-nie-byl-taki-racjonalny/9n79l2m,681c1dfa -- BIRTHDAYS: Maciej Małecki.
