Two farmers from Warsaw, along with some unionists representing mainly themselves and their colleagues, decided to barricade the ministry with straw.” -- THEY ARE AFRAID THAT AN EXTERNAL PERSON IS COMING AND MAY OVERTURN THEIR PAPER STRUCTURES - LIZINIEWICZ CONTINUES: “Today, they intend to block roads, making life difficult for thousands of people. This protest, of course, shows fear. The agricultural unionists and fur farmers are afraid because, suddenly, an outsider arrives who may overturn their paper structures. Unfortunately, these old hands, who have been operating for decades – like Waldemar I., who, according to the prosecution, defrauded farmers of 2 million PLN – have infected ordinary, hardworking farmers with fear. They convince them that the PiS government despises them and wants to destroy them. This is not true, but these people have never cared about the countryside anyway.” -- PUDA IS A THREAT TO THOSE WHO PROFIT AT THE EXPENSE OF THE COUNTRYSIDE - LIZINIEWICZ IN NIEZALEŻNA: “Grzegorz Puda is currently a threat primarily to those who profit at the expense of people in the countryside. That's why the faces of the protests today are people living in the capital. Fortunately, the new minister doesn't seem cowardly, and the Self-Defense unit in Warsaw will not achieve its goal.” https://niezalezna.pl/356189-miastowe-chlopy-na-blokadach -- CZARNEK MINISTER OF WAR, LIKE ROCCO BUTTIGLIONE, BLOCKED IN THE EU - KRZYSZTOF KARNKOWSKI IN NIEZALEŻNA: “Czarnek is known for his strongly conservative views, which from the outset have led to a very negative reception, first of the announcement of his nomination, and now of him taking office. This situation may resemble the times when Roman Giertych was still a symbol of evil for the opposition, which sent him to the sack and the lake. Or even earlier times, when we learned that although the European Union is a paradise of civil liberties and democracy, the conservative Rocco Buttiglione could not become the EU Commissioner for Justice. This time, some of Czarnek's statements are to disqualify him, especially those concerning LGBT and modern models of family and motherhood. And here, the analogy with Buttiglione seems particularly apt, because it was precisely the Italian's views on these two areas of contemporary social life that blocked his EU career. It is worth adding that they did not, however, affect his presence in Italian politics. Although he lost the election for mayor of Turin, he remained a minister in Silvio Berlusconi's government for several years, and is regularly elected to the Senate in subsequent elections.” -- THE NEW GENERATION IS EXPOSED TO THE MOST HARMFUL IDEOLOGIES, INCLUDING THE SEXUALIZATION OF POP CULTURE - KARNKOWSKI CONTINUES: “Here we come to the most serious problem facing the new minister of education. The coming generations, on the one hand, seem culturally detached from the world of adults, but on the other hand, they are susceptible to the most harmful ideologies proposed by this world. The greatest blame here is probably borne by the constant sexualization of youth pop culture offerings, where commercial and ideological motives converge. As a result, we are dealing with numerous, very disturbing phenomena of global scope, such as increased depressive moods, low self-esteem, feelings of alienation, increasingly treated with radical views and verbal (though, as we increasingly see, evolving into physical form) aggression.” https://niezalezna.pl/356117-minister-wojny -- THE MORE DIFFICULT THE SITUATION, THE GREATER THE TEMPTATION IN PIS MAY BE TO ENGAGE IN IDEOLOGICAL WARS - MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI IN RZ: “I fear, however, that the more difficult the situation becomes, the greater the temptation in Law and Justice will be to engage in ideological wars – we are already seeing a decided hardening of rhetoric towards Brussels, which is generating immense emotions and allowing serious problems to be pushed off the agenda. Seeking an enemy, a Muslim refugee, a German, a representative of 'gender ideology' or 'LGBT ideology' is excellent political fuel. It is much harder to fight a crisis and repair the state, to perform positivist groundwork, than to conduct political battles that divide society. But if the government opts for the former, it has a chance to be written into history in a chapter about Polish successes. This is the stake of the choice facing Jarosław Kaczyński today.” https://www.rp.pl/Komentarze/310069897-Michal-Szuldrzynski-Pokusa-walk-zastepczych.html -- WHY ARE THE OPPOSITION LEADERS SILENT ON THE BARLEY ISSUE? ARE THEY ACCEPTING ANTI-POLISH ATTACKS TO DEFEAT PIS? - MICHAŁ KARNOWSKI: “And here we come to a very sad matter: why are the opposition leaders silent? Why do commentators from the Third Republic camp pretend it's raining? I hear and read comments about everything – but this topic doesn't exist. Apart from one Ms. Sylwia Spurek, who with great sincerity recognized Barley as a 'European patriot,' thus supporting her extermination plans, nothing. Really, in the eyes of the leaders of PO, PSL, SLD, Wiosna, Lewica Razem, Konfederacja, Kukiz'15, and other formations, this is not an issue? Nor for their allied media? Are they prepared to accept even such anti-Polish language to defeat PiS? I therefore have only one request: never, ever, lecture us again on what constitutes the national interest, how important community is, and what free journalism is.” https://wpolityce.pl/polityka/520840-dlaczego-liderzy-opozycji-milcza-w-sprawie-barley -- I USED THESE WORDS SOLELY IN RELATION TO ORBAN AND THE CORRUPT SYSTEM IN HUNGARY - KATRINE BARLEY IN GW: “That is not true. The words I used concerned solely Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and the corrupt system he created in Hungary, where money from the EU budget flows into the accounts of his relatives and friends. I believe that corruption must not be tolerated, and the system around Orbán can no longer be fattened with European funds.” -- I WASN'T TALKING ABOUT POLAND, I AM AWARE OF POLAND'S CONTRIBUTION TO GERMAN REUNIFICATION - BARLEY CONTINUES: “But I wasn't talking about Poland. I have great respect for the Polish nation. We just celebrated the 30th anniversary of German reunification. I am aware of how great a contribution Poland made to the fall of the Iron Curtain and the end of my country's division. However, I also have a critical stance towards the actions of the current Polish government.” -- DEMOCRACY IS NOT ABOUT THE RULING PARTY ALWAYS BEING RIGHT - BARLEY CONTINUES: “Governments in Warsaw and Budapest instrumentalize every critical statement directed at them because they do not tolerate criticism – regardless of whether it comes from within the country or from abroad. One only needs to look at the attacks on independent media or judges who have the courage to question the authorities' decisions. Those in power in Poland and Hungary believe that since they won the elections and have a majority, they can do whatever they please. Democracy is not about the ruling party always being right.” https://wyborcza.pl/7,75399,26372564,wiceszefowa-europarlamentu-katarina-barley-dla-wyborczej.html -- GDANSK IS MAKING PROGRESS, PRESSURE MAKES SENSE - JACEK KARNOWSKI ON DULKIEWICZ: “Firstly, Mayor Dulkiewicz should have the courage to mention the perpetrators of the crime – the Germans. She did not mention them, at least not in the tweet (in the speech quoted on the city's website, she did, but in reference to the aggressive foreign policy of the Third Reich, not in the context of the crime itself). (...) We strongly keep our fingers crossed for the spiritual, moral, and historical development of Gdańsk's authorities. Polishness is beautiful, attractive, heroic. It is not worth exchanging it for a history of Germany stained with crime – not to mention the fact that it would simply be treason.” https://wpolityce.pl/polityka/520789-presja-ma-sens-gdansk-robi-postepy-ale-cel-wciaz-daleko -- THE PANDEMIC REVEALED A FUNDAMENTAL DIVISION OF PROFESSIONS: THOSE WITHOUT WHOM WE CAN IMAGINE THE WORLD AND THOSE WITHOUT WHOM IT WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT - PIOTR WÓJCIK AT KLUB JAGIELLOŃSKI: “The pandemic has brought to light a certain important truth about our labor market. A truth that was practically imperceptible before the coronavirus. It turned out that there is a fundamental division among professions: there are those whose work we can imagine our daily lives without, and those without whom it would be very difficult, if not impossible. On one side, most so-called white-collar workers engaged in remote work and Zoom conferences. On the other: doctors, nurses, paramedics, shop assistants, couriers, garbage collectors, who were widely applauded.” -- JOBS ESSENTIAL FROM A SOCIETAL PERSPECTIVE ARE AMONG THE LOWEST PAID - WÓJCIK CONTINUES: “What do all these professions, whose representatives risked their health during the lockdown, have in common? Apart from doctors, all are poorly paid, usually significantly below the national average. Jobs essential from a societal perspective are among the lowest paid. This undoubtedly says a lot about the economic system we live in. If people to whom we owe so much receive so little for their often exhausting and difficult work, then income distribution is clearly faltering. This applies to all developed countries, by the way; Poland is by no means a dishonorable exception here.” -- SALARIES TURNED UPSIDE DOWN - A PR SPECIALIST EARNS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE THAN A NURSE AND A TEACHER - WÓJCIK CONTINUES: “So, one could say that salaries among specialists are turned upside down, if a PR specialist earns significantly more than a nurse or a teacher. No one questions the social value of a nurse's or teacher's work. The social value of a PR professional or marketer is at least debatable.” -- THE SOCIAL VALUE OF A BANKER'S WORK IS NEGATIVE - WÓJCIK CONTINUES: “Among the selected professions, the banker earned the most. His annual salary was 5 million pounds. The authors of the analysis assessed the social value of his work as negative. It was estimated that he destroyed 7 pounds for every pound earned. An advertising director pocketed 500,000 pounds annually, even though his work resulted in a societal loss of almost 12 pounds for every pound of his income. A tax advisor earned an average of 125,000 pounds in the UK. This is quite a lot, considering that the social value of his work amounted to minus 11 pounds per pound of income.” -- STRENGTHEN THE PROFESSIONAL POSITION OF WOMEN, POPULARIZE COLLECTIVE FORMS OF WORKER PROTECTION - WÓJCIK CONTINUES: “To appreciate the social value of work, one does not need to invent new, innovative mechanisms. For starters, it is enough to use proven solutions that successfully operate in Northern European countries – Nordic, German-speaking, and Benelux countries. Strengthening the professional position of women and popularizing collective forms of worker protection effectively correct the market valuation of labor, which does not recognize social value. There is no reason to rely solely on it. Nor is it necessary to abandon the market to build a more just society. The market needs necessary corrections, not its liquidation.” https://klubjagiellonski.pl/2020/10/06/jak-zwiekszyc-wynagrodzenia-spolecznie-uzytecznych-zawodow/ -- BIRTHDAYS: Maria Szyszkowska, Wojciech Engelking.
