STATE OF PLAY: RZ: Strong Support for '5 for Animals' on Farms Too, Stankiewicz: PSL Proposed a Parliamentary Gambit to PO but Was Told No One Controls the Club, Major: Ousting Ziobro Would Shift PiS to the Right
-- 14 YEARS AGO the PiS-Samoobrona-LPR coalition collapsed for the first time.
-- TOMORROW, ANOTHER MEETING OF PiS LEADERSHIP, CZARNEK ON THE NEED FOR DISCIPLINE AND HIS CANDIDACY, MULLER ON DECISIONS BY FRIDAY - 300LIVE: https://300polityka.pl/live/2020/09/22/
-- ALEKSANDRA KURZAK AMONG THOSE NOMINATED BY THE CHAPTER FOR THE AMBASSADOR OF POLAND TITLE IN THE KGHM POLL: “The Chapter’s deliberations not only broadened our knowledge of phenomenal Poles and their contribution to building a positive image of Poland, but above all – selected the best of the best! We will learn the winners of the Ambassador of Poland 2020 poll during the grand finale at the end of October. – After the success of the first edition, I had no doubt that the ‘Ambassador of Poland’ poll is an invaluable tool for promoting the talents and hard work that distinguish our countrymen. I am convinced that the poll will permanently become part of our company’s DNA – said Marcin Chludziński, President of the Management Board of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., opening the deliberations.”

-- "WYBORCZA" ON THE NIGHT MEETING: “PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński met with the leader of Solidarna Polska, Zbigniew Ziobro, at night – 'Wyborcza' has learned. Further talks regarding the future of Zjednoczona Prawica are to take place in the coming days. One of the conditions, according to RMF FM, is to be the resignation of Bogdan Święczkowski, the national prosecutor and one of the most trusted individuals of the Minister of Justice.”

-- ANIMALS DESERVE GOOD CHANGE - RZ SURVEY ON THE FRONT PAGE: “Even on two of the most contentious issues, which sparked the political ‘fur crisis’ and the threat of government collapse, respondents mostly support the demands of animal rights defenders. Thus, a ban on fur farming is supported by 68.3% of respondents. Interestingly – as many as 77% of women and 58% of men. Regarding the restriction of ritual slaughter solely for the needs of domestic religious groups, 59.7% speak positively.”
-- SUPPORTERS OF THE RIGHT WANT A BAN ON FUR FARMING: “Does political views influence attitudes towards animals? Surprisingly – but it seems not. A ban on fur farming is supported by 65% of voters with decidedly left-wing views and 69% with decidedly right-wing views. And among moderately right-wing voters – 63%. Support for slaughter is slightly different: in this matter, people with left-wing views are greater defenders of animals than those with right-wing views (63% to 53%).”
-- RURAL RESIDENTS SUPPORT A BAN ON KEEPING DOGS ON SHORT LEASHES: “And – very importantly from a political perspective – a ban on keeping dogs on short leashes or chains and restricting the use of prong collars is supported by 88.9% of respondents. Interestingly, as many as 91% of respondents living in rural areas are in favor of this ban.”

-- PSL PROPOSED A PARLIAMENTARY GAMBIT TO KO: REJECT THE BILL AND SUBMIT THEIR OWN, WITHOUT RITUAL SLAUGHTER, BUT WERE TOLD THAT THE PO LEADERSHIP DOES NOT CONTROL THE CLUB - ANDRZEJ STANKIEWICZ IN TYGODNIK POWSZECHNY: “In this situation, the PSL leadership made a proposal to Koalicja Obywatelska to heat up the conflict within Zjednoczona Prawica. The idea was to reject the animal protection bill in Kaczyński’s version and introduce their own bill, without a ban on ritual slaughter. Since many MPs from the ruling camp – including Ziobro’s people – voted against Kaczyński’s proposal, the leader could lose the vote, which would further inflame the situation. However, the KO leadership rejected such a solution. – The divisions after the vote on pay raises for politicians are too fresh. We don’t control the club. Some more left-wing MPs would have voted for Kaczyński’s bill anyway, and then we would have had additional problems. We need peace – says a member of the Platform’s inner leadership.”
-- GRASSROOTS PSL PUSH FOR A COALITION WITH PiS - STANKIEWICZ CONTINUES: “However, even PSL is in trouble today. The party leadership, regional heads, and MEPs, i.e., the peasant elite, are trying to fight PiS. But the party’s grassroots and electorate are pushing for a coalition with Kaczyński.”
-- THE OPPOSITION IS PASSIVELY OBSERVING THE SITUATION IN THE RULING CAMP - STANKIEWICZ CONTINUES: "Therefore, the opposition is only passively observing the situation in the ruling camp. Even the collapse of Zjednoczona Prawica would not change anything. The leaders of PO, PSL, and Lewica are not willing to take political risks today, such as cooperation with Konfederacja or some politicians of the current government, to remove Kaczyński from power. It was similar in the spring, when Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin opposed the presidential elections by mail. Gowin was then holding talks with the opposition about forming an anti-PiS government. The negotiations came to nothing – the opposition feared the risk, and Kaczyński signed an agreement with Gowin and postponed the elections.”

-- MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI ON THE CONDITION OF CHANGING MINISTRIES ASSIGNED TO SOLIDARNA POLSKA: “The lack of a clear statement after Monday’s meeting of PiS’s most important politicians and the information leaking to the media that a final chance meeting between Jarosław Kaczyński and Zbigniew Ziobro is to take place may mean that the leader of the ruling camp does not want to use the atomic bomb immediately. He will meet with the head of Solidarna Polska again and lay down the law. There is also talk of an offer that cannot be refused, which may mean that the condition for Ziobro to remain in the ruling coalition will be a change in the ministries assigned to his party in the government.”

-- OUSTING ZIOBRO WILL ONLY FUEL PiS'S ANTI-LEFTISM - GALOPUJĄCY MAJOR in Krytyka Polityczna: “This means that PiS will not only find its own Ziobro, but will show that it is more 'Ziobro-like' than Ziobro. Left-wing values, human rights, and thus LGBT and women’s rights, will be the subject of constant attack, in the name of which PiS will show that it is more anti-left than the anti-leftist Konfederacja and Solidarna, heh, heh, Polska. Ecology will probably be the first target.”
-- FOR PiS, THERE'S HARDLY A BETTER MOMENT FOR ELECTIONS - MAJOR CONTINUES: “Not only the unwillingness for mutual political relations speaks for a divorce, but above all, the lack of fear. Simply put, neither Kaczyński nor Ziobro fear early elections. In the case of PiS, there is hardly a better moment with a divided opposition, and moreover, with Hołownia, who will certainly take some 10–12% of the votes away from PO, and perhaps push Lewica below the threshold.”

-- WE WATCHED A SPECTACLE OF ZIOBRO'S SELF-HUMILIATION - PAWEŁ WROŃSKI IN "GW": “Perhaps the Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General Zbigniew Ziobro will be dismissed. Perhaps PiS will take over his MPs, maybe a minority government supported by President Andrzej Duda will be formed, or there will be new elections. In any case, we watched a spectacle of the leader of Solidarna Polska humiliating himself.”

-- LET'S WISH FOR ZIOBRO'S RESIGNATION, BUT LET'S NOT EXPECT MIRACLES - MICHAŁ SUTOWSKI in Krytyka: “Would it be good for democracy in Poland if Zbigniew Ziobro were out of the Zjednoczona Prawica government? In my opinion, we should still wish for it, although today a scenario of returning on bended knees to conditional and limited graces of the Leader seems more likely. (...) The resignation of Zbigniew Ziobro would therefore have serious advantages, but only pushing him into political oblivion by Jarosław Kaczyński would be a real favor to all of us. Even if it’s a favor of the kind a group of bandits does to a lying victim by finally stopping kicking them.”

-- ZIOBRO IS BIDDING HIGH - MICHAŁ DANIELEWSKI in OKO: “In other words, Ziobro suggested to leader Jarosław Kaczyński that in his opposition to the fur bill, he has not only Andrzej Duda but also PiS politicians on his side. Therefore, it seems the Minister of Justice is saying, after Solidarna Polska is expelled from the government and the coalition, it is more likely that PiS MPs will join Ziobro’s party, not the other way around. Ziobro also outlined a sketch of an idea for how he would position himself on the political scene outside the coalition with Prawo i Sprawiedliwość. Emphasizing that since his participation in the Rywin investigation committee, he has always stood for the same values, he has positioned himself as an unwavering sheriff resolutely upholding equality before the law (sic!). OKO.press assesses that the Minister of Justice is bidding high in political humility. We will know Jarosław Kaczyński’s response soon.”

-- A MINORITY GOVERNMENT WOULD MEAN THE END OF THE VOTING MACHINE, IT DOESN'T WORRY ME - ADRIAN ZANDBERG in conversation with PAULINA SIEGIEŃ in Krytyka: “I won’t pretend that the crisis on the right particularly worries me. A minority government would mean that the Sejm stops being a voting machine. Since PiS doesn't have an independent majority, it won’t be able to push through laws as it has for the past few years.”
-- LEWICA IS READY FOR ELECTIONS - ZANDBERG CONTINUES: “Yes – we have many young politicians whose knowledge and energy will be useful in parliament. I’m just back from Wrocław. There, at a convention, a program for healthcare was presented by Dr. Kaja Filaczyńska – a resident activist, one of the leaders of Wrocław’s Razem. I hope that after new elections, she will be an MP. Regardless of whether they happen in two months, a year, or three years.”

-- ARCHBISHOP GĄDECKI PROHIBITED COLLECTING SIGNATURES FOR "STOP LGBT" IN THE CHURCHES OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF POZNAŃ: “In reference to the campaign of collecting signatures for the social bill ‘Stop LGBT’, promoted by Kaja Godek, we inform you that Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki has not consented to its promotion and execution on church grounds of the Archdiocese of Poznań.” This was stated in the Archbishop’s letter to the parish priests of the Archdiocese of Poznań, published by the DEON portal.
