-- SOBOLEWSKI ON EVERYTHING APPEARING ABOUT THE COALITION IN AUGUST BEING FAKE NEWS, ZIOBRO AGAIN CHALLENGES THE PRIME MINISTER ON LGBT ZONES AND EU MONEY - 300LIVE: https://300polityka.pl/live/2020/07/29/ -- THE INTERNET IS DEMOCRATIC BUT SHOWS ITS BAD SIDES, A GENIAL AND FATAL TOOL AT THE SAME TIME - MARCIN KRÓL IN LIBERTE: “Hence, with the development of democracy, the widespread conviction arose that each of us should be authentic, that everyone has their subjectivity and spontaneity, and their identity. Probably so, but it does not follow that – for example – everyone’s views on art or politics are equally valuable, although – this is also a problem – each of us has an equal vote in elections. And here we read on the internet (I repeat, it is a genial and fatal tool at the same time, and I don’t know which prevails) the thoughts of anyone who can write – how not to get lost in it! This is a democratic phenomenon, but it shows the bad sides of democracy. Please note that there are far fewer statements on strictly economic or technical topics, because this requires a certain knowledge (superiority-inferiority) than on the topic of culture or politics”. -- WE MUST SUPPORT ENLIGHTENED ELITISM; ELITISM WITH THE POSTULATE OF EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES WILL NOT BE DANGEROUS - MARCIN KRÓL CONTINUES: “After all, we do not want to degrade future democracy from the outset. Therefore, regardless of the idiotic anti-elitist declarations of politicians who think they will win over the masses in this way, we will have to support enlightened elitism. If we manage to achieve the postulate of ‘equal opportunities’ to the maximum extent, such elitism will not be dangerous in the least. Of course, provided there is bottom-up control”. https://liberte.pl/jakie-elity-taka-demokracja/ -- THE OPPOSITION WILL WIN WHEN IT FINALLY SHOWS THAT PIS IS THE ELITE - GALOPUJĄCY MAJOR in Krytyka Polityczna: “Three events in the last half-year have particularly stirred Polish society. No, not any scandals about respirators, not any witch hunts against subsequent minorities. What moved society the most was Lichocka’s finger, Kaczyński’s entry into the cemetery despite coronavirus restrictions, and Jacek Kurski’s second church wedding. Many commentators consider these political trifles, not very important from a political perspective. Meanwhile, it is quite the opposite. All three events have something in common that particularly triggers society. What? They all show how PiS positions itself as the new elite. And among all political crimes, this is the greatest one in Poland recently”. -- KACZYŃSKI KNOWS THAT ELITIST DISCOURSE REPELLS VOTERS, WHICH IS WHY HE PRODUCES A CURTAIN - MAJOR CONTINUES: “Of course, Kaczyński is a politician shrewd enough to know that an elitist discourse repels voters. Therefore, day and night, a curtain is produced behind which the new elite can hide to pretend to be caring Kowalskis on a daily basis. Sometimes Beata Szydło serves as such a veil, whose ostentatious mismatch with the salon is meant to show that the party is close to the people. Sometimes it’s Joachim Brudziński posting shoddy photos from his vacation in embarrassing capes”. -- MAJOR ON THE FACT THAT ELITISM SUITS PLATFORMA: “The problem with PiS's elitism, which, despite successive veils, constantly peeks out from underneath, is the opposition’s complete blindness to this elitism. Perhaps the Left still notices the issue, but it doesn’t have such a strong connection to the media. And this blindness stems from the very identity of the liberal opposition. Namely, Civic Platform, because that’s what we’re talking about, considers victory among the most educated and elite voters a point of pride, not a cause for concern. The label of elite, which was affixed to PO precisely by PiS, apparently simply suits the former. Just as it suited the Freedom Union back then”. -- MAJOR ON THE ERUPTION OF CLASSISM - ELITE STATUS IS THE LAST REDOUBT: “Indeed, this eruption of classism, which broke out right after Duda’s victory, is not only an offensive weapon against the opponent but also an example of desperate despair when one wants to drown out the pain of defeat. Duda may have received more votes, but it was those better, richer, smarter who voted for us! And we will not be ashamed of it. In other words, elite status is the last redoubt that we will not surrender until political death, or a balm for the eternally unhealing wound of subsequent losses”. -- PUDELEK IS READ BECAUSE POLES ALMOST HATE CELEBRITIES AND LIBERALS PUSH THEM TO THE FRONT PAGES - MAJOR'S CONCLUSION: “The liberal opposition must understand that every kiss from a celebrity is, on the one hand, an injection of ‘fajnopolacki’ support, and on the other, a trigger for anti-elitist sentiments. Pudelek is read not because society likes its celebrities, but because it almost hates them. And the liberals, instead of distancing themselves from them, are pushing them onto the front pages. And it probably wouldn’t matter to us what PO does, if it weren’t for the fact that it is still the opposition force with the largest media support, and its successive defeats mean that the right-wing government can still light cigars with two-hundred-zloty notes. And tighten the screws in subsequent anti-worker shields”. https://krytykapolityczna.pl/felietony/galopujacy-major/opozycja-wygra-kiedy-wreszcie-pokaze-ze-pis-jest-elita/ -- APPROACH IDEAS FOR REBUILDING THE RULING CAMP WITH GREAT CAUTION - JACEK KARNOWSKI: “This is the seventh consecutive election won by the United Right. There is no guarantee that the eighth will also be won, but certainly all these successes were not accidental. They resulted from good choices, hard work, successful and well-targeted social programs, but also from a fundamental matter: United Right is a construct that works. It has been tested in battle. Therefore, ideas for rebuilding the ruling camp, appearing here and there, officially and unofficially, should be approached with great caution. This includes bringing the PSL into the government, expanding the coalition with Konfederacja, or replacing one faction with another”. -- LET’S APPRECIATE THE UNITED RIGHT BECAUSE IT WORKS - KARNOWSKI CONTINUES: “In fact, the leaders of the United Right should thank God every day that the formation built by Jarosław Kaczyński has gained and maintained power. And every day they should realize that if the Third Republic returns to power, it will do everything to rebuild Poland so that it never has to remain in opposition again. In short: let’s appreciate the United Right because it works. And in politics, that’s the greatest compliment”. https://wpolityce.pl/polityka/511165-doceniajmy-zjednoczona-prawice-bo-dziala-a-to-juz-b-duzo -- THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF RZECZPOSPOLITA ON THE NEED TO RECONSIDER NEW SOLIDARISM AND RAISING THE RETIREMENT AGE: “In light of these two conclusions, we have no choice but to make an effort to strengthen the Polish economy. We must reject the current paradigm, part with outdated plans for new solidarism, and correct systemic errors or outdated legislation. I am fully aware of the Gordian knot that binds Polish politics, but we must assume that the good of the national economy will necessitate rethinking solutions such as raising the retirement age, joining the eurozone, restoring Sunday trading, or abolishing the bank tax. Difficult times have come through no fault of our own, but we must cope with them. We have no other choice. In the cycle we are launching today, we will ask difficult questions and analyze sector by sector what needs to be changed in Poland so that we emerge stronger from the crisis. Today we start with the banking sector”. https://www.rp.pl/Komentarze-ekonomiczne/200729551-Boguslaw-Chrabota-Przyszlosc-polskiej-gospodarki.html -- SENATOR JAN FILIP LIBICKI ON LIDIA STAROŃ HAVING RADICALLY MORE RADICAL IDEAS FOR THE JUDICIARY THAN PIS - QUOTED BY WIELKOPOLSKA GW: “It’s true. Senator Lidia Staroń is on PiS’s side. For two reasons. First, they made a gesture towards her by not fielding a counter-candidate in her constituency in the 2019 elections. This obliges certain behaviors. Second, when it comes to the judiciary, Senator Staroń has even sharper views than PiS,” says Senator Libicki. -- WIELKOPOLSKA GW ON TWO SENATORS CONNECTED WITH SPORTS WHO MAY TIP THE SCALES IN FAVOR OF PIS: “However, Staroń is not enough. If not Libicki, then who? In this context, two Civic Coalition senators are most often mentioned – Robert Dowhan and Władysław Komarnicki. The former is the former president of the Falubaz Zielona Góra speedway club, the latter presides over Stal Gorzów Wielkopolski. PiS actually tried to win Komarnicki over immediately after losing the Senate elections, offering him the position of Minister of Sport”. https://poznan.wyborcza.pl/poznan/7,36001,26164378,pis-grozi-ze-brakuje-mu-tylko-dwoch-glosow-zeby-odbic-senat.html -- PIS HAS BECOME THE ADVOCATE FOR THE WEAK, PLATFORMA IS TO BE THE ADVOCATE FOR HARD WORKERS - BORYS BUDKA IN CONVERSATION WITH RZ: “We want to adopt a new ideological declaration for PO in the autumn. Platform and the entire Civic Coalition must be the advocate for hard-working people. PiS has become the advocate for the weaker, excluded, but neglects those who support the state through their work. This division must be countered by a new solidarity. There must be a balance here. Development is not possible without hard work”. -- BUDKA ON COOPERATION WITH PSL AND HOŁOWNIA: “Certainly, there should be cooperation where we have similar views. When we compete, it should be in a sporting manner. I do not rule out, even if there is a desire from the Polish People's Party or Hołownia, a joint list in the Sejm elections. I am for cooperation with the Left, but the basis should be a common program. We are programmatically closest to the Polish People's Party. There are many common points with the Left, but whether there will be one opposition list remains to be seen. We must certainly maintain the formula of cooperation for the Senate. That has worked”. https://www.rp.pl/Wywiady-i-rozmowy/200729563-Borys-Budka-Da-sie-wygrac-z-PiS-Tylko-trzeba-dolozyc-jeszcze-jedna-cegle.html -- THE CONVENTION USES IDEOLOGICAL LANGUAGE - ŁUKASZ WARZECHA IN RZ: “When discussing the Istanbul Convention, let’s talk about real matters, not imagined ones. The dispute is not about whether to allow women to be beaten, but about what concepts the convention introduces and whether it is a threat or not. It is mainly about the concept of ‘gender,’ an artificial construct introduced by the left. As the agreement imposes obligations on the Polish state, creating a national strategy to combat domestic violence, we must take this construct into account, which in turn forces us to concentrate our actions on the threat that – according to the convention – traditions and established social roles are supposed to create, rather than focusing on problems such as alcoholism or various types of addiction. It is clear that the left sees no threat here, while conservatives do. It is also clear to anyone who has at least skimmed the convention that it uses language that is largely ideological. However, let this be the subject of the dispute”. https://www.rp.pl/Rzecz-o-polityce/200729565-Lukasz-Warzecha-Czy-prawica-chce-bicia-kobiet.html -- SIX EU COUNTRIES HAVE NOT RATIFIED THE CONVENTION - JAKUB JAŁOWICZOR IN GOŚĆ NIEDZIELNY: “So far, the government has not denounced the convention. In 2018, Jarosław Kaczyński even suggested that it would not, as it was not worth starting a war since the document had no binding force anyway. This is not a very convincing explanation, because the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy did work on a report on the implementation of the convention last year. Moreover, the decision to denounce the Istanbul document would have concrete significance. Why? The European Union wants to adopt the convention. Its provisions will then become part of EU law, and there will be no discussion – they will have to be adhered to. For this to happen, all EU member states must ratify the document beforehand. Six members of the Union have not yet done so. These include the Czech Republic, Lithuania, and Latvia. Poland is not in this group. Therefore, if these countries give in at some point, the noose we didn't want to put around our necks will tighten. And this time we will not be able to complain about the morally corrupted EU”. https://www.gosc.pl/doc/6427281.Zbawcy-Europy -- ZIOBRO HAS ALREADY BURNED HIS FINGERS ON BELIEVING IN HIS MAGICAL LEADERSHIP POWER - ZUZANNA DĄBROWSKA IN RZ: “Unfortunately, I fear that when in politics the aim is unclear, it is about power. And in this case – about baking a right-wing cake in which Zbigniew Ziobro can count on a dominant share. After all, he has already burned his fingers once by leaving PiS and believing in his magical leadership power. Now he doesn’t want to make that mistake – he dreams of taking over the entire succession mass so that he never has to go to Canossa under the Sejm again and, with a trembling voice, make declarations of loyalty to the president in the cold”. https://www.rp.pl/Rzecz-o-polityce/200729564-Zuzanna-Dabrowska-Konwencja-stambulska-Polska-bez-zgody.html -- PHOTO. Henri Matisse, Icarus. Initially, he worked under the influence of Impressionists and Japanese art. In 1905, he exhibited his works at the Salon d’Automne. He soon developed his own style. He achieved fame during his lifetime. Matisse filled his canvases with patches of vibrant, luminous, usually strongly contrasting colors, which he often outlined with a delicate contour for the sake of clarity. This bold and playful image is one of twenty created by Matisse to illustrate his groundbreaking book “Jazz.” The illustrations are derived from maquettes of cut and pasted colored papers, which were then printed using a stencil technique known as “pochoir.” Here, the mythological figure of Icarus is depicted in a simplified form, soaring against a royal blue night sky. Matisse’s flat, abstract forms and large areas of pure color marked a significant shift toward his later work and ultimately influenced “hard-edge” artists of the 1960s such as Ellsworth Kelly and Al Held. https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/337069 -- BIRTHDAYS: Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz, Sebastian Kaleta.
