POLITICAL ARENA: Karnowski: "New Solidarity" is thriving. Led by President Kaczyński; Jaruzelska: The campaign showed it's possible to curry favor even with those called fascists; WKK: Platform didn't play fair. And that's the end of it; Wassermann: No

-- THE NEW SOLIDARITY IS THRIVING, LED BY JAROSŁAW KACZYŃSKI - MICHAŁ KARNOWSKI: “Because the new Solidarity already exists and is doing well. It is led by President Jarosław Kaczyński, it has just won the presidential elections, it is implementing the programmatic postulates of the Independent Self-Governing Trade Union "Solidarity" led by Piotr Duda, and for five years it has been trying to expel post-communism – this hellish amalgam of the old communist regime and part of the anti-communist opposition. This new "Solidarity" is faithful to the Christian and national message of the First Solidarity. It honors its heroes, rejects agents and traitors. It draws from the state thought of the late Lech Kaczyński. It tries to rectify the social wrongs caused by the cruel actions of the Balcerowicz era. It strives to reduce the privileges of the communist apparatus and the enriched nomenclature. It respects the Polish countryside, the provinces, and people of hard labor. It also includes weaker social groups in the circle benefiting from national wealth.” -- PR EXPERTS CAN'T COOK THIS UP AND TVN WON'T FORCE IT ON PEOPLE - KARNOWSKI CONTINUES: “But it exists. It's real. Civic. Self-governing. An archipelago of Polishness. Authenticity. Sacrifice. Selflessness. Heritage. Concern for the state. This cannot be faked, it cannot be bought, PR experts for laundry detergents can't cook it up, and TVN and German media for Poles won't force it on people.” https://wpolityce.pl/polityka/509838-nowa-solidarnosc-juz-istnieje-i-ma-sie-dobrze -- ALL THESE INSULTS AND THREATS POSTPONE THE OPPOSITION'S VICTORY - JACEK KARNOWSKI: “Paradoxically, all these threats and insults are a mechanism that postpones the opposition's victory. Indeed, they keep the most ardent base in a state of near hysteria, but at the same time they disrupt any attempts to offer Poles a calmer proposition. They attract those who hate, but alienate those who do not want further wars at the top, who fear destabilization. And most importantly: they ensure that the right wing always knows it is fighting for its life. Unlike the opposition, broadly understood, which after successive defeats returns to its comfortable local governments, to sympathetic businesses, to major media outlets – institutions that fare excellently regardless of who governs.” https://wpolityce.pl/polityka/509820-a-duda-wygral-bo-prawica-walczyla-jak-zawsze-o-zycie -- IF ONE HAS TROUBLE CONTACTING RECENT COMPETITORS, WHAT DOES THAT INDICATE - MICHAŁ KAMIŃSKI IN CONVERSATION WITH MAGDALENA RIGAMONTI IN DGP: “When I ran for the Senate, I had no problem asking various people for support. I asked both Leszek Balcerowicz and Aleksander Kwaśniewski. They agreed because I humbly asked them to. And if I find out that someone who is running for president has trouble contacting recent competitors in the second round of elections, what does that indicate? People from the campaign explained that there was no time to call Robert Biedroń.” -- PIS RULE IS NOT A WHIM - MICHAŁ KAMIŃSKI CONTINUES: “Elitism, being Warsaw-centric, the conviction that ruling is our due. If the opposition does not abandon the idea that PiS is a historical anomaly that happened in the normal course of our country's history, which we should essentially be ruling, then none of its efforts will bear fruit. After all, here, on the opposition's side, most think of PiS as barbarians who have somewhat destroyed our world, but soon everything will return to normal. It won't. PiS's rule is not a whim, but a result of the nation's will. And one can either be offended by this nation, or understand it and start speaking its language. Well, but if the opposition's internet is constantly full of images of a pig dropping a vote into the ballot box... https://forsal.pl/gospodarka/polityka/artykuly/7774688,michal-kaminski-wywiad-rigamonti-wladza-pis-nie-jest-wybrykiem.html -- WILL THE PRESIDENT BLOCK RADICALISM? - JAKUB SZCZEPAŃSKI IN INTERIA: “Some are not on the same page regarding good cooperation between the president and the prime minister. Can Minister Ziobro be satisfied with it? Probably not with some of his ideas. Radicalism might be blocked by the president in the future – we hear from one of the ministers. – MPs from Warsaw, from big cities, see what has happened. There is reflection. Ideological topics will certainly not be stolen from us. And we will not lose more than 7-8 percent of support because of it – he adds.” -- MAŁGORZATA WASSERMANN IN SZCZEPAŃSKI'S ARTICLE ABOUT NOT HAVING A PROBLEM WITH OTHERS' VIEWS AND DIFFERENT ORIENTATIONS: “Małgorzata Wassermann, in turn, talks about communication through schools and the internet. – We need to show young people that we do not have the traits that are intentionally attributed to us. I am a member of PiS, and at the same time I am a very tolerant person, someone who has no problem with others' views, different orientations, or interests – she believes. What about schools? As the MP explains, it's about modifying the curriculum. – It's about introducing broad tolerance into it, because lately we've been talking about tolerance in the context of minorities. And by tolerance, I also mean respect for my values – we heard from Wassermann. https://fakty.interia.pl/autor/jakub-szczepanski/news-nowe-otwarcie-prezydenta-i-premiera-prezes-pis-chce-glosow-m,nId,4616743 -- ŁUKASZ LIPIŃSKI HIGHLIGHTS THE 38 MONTHS MOTIF: “The wife of the mayor of Warsaw, Małgorzata Trzaskowska, aptly calculated that there are 38 months until the next vote for the new movement. If it wants to succeed, it must be able to utilize each of them well, not fall into lethargy and only wake up a few months before the elections.” https://www.polityka.pl/tygodnikpolityka/kraj/1964318,1,dlugi-marsz-czy-ruch-trzaskowskiego-ma-szanse-na-sukces.read?src=mt -- CELEBRITIES SEEM TO BE BROADCASTING FROM GULAGS - TOMASZ S. MARKIEWKA IN KRYTYKA O POŁAJANKACH: “I know that some journalists and celebrities seem to be broadcasting from Siberian gulags, but the truth is they are doing quite well. It's LGBT+ individuals who can feel threatened under PiS rule, which not only cynically targets them whenever it senses electoral interest, but is increasingly drawing fundamentalists from Ordo Iuris and similar groups into the center of Polish politics. And if anyone has the right to say they don't care about electoral pragmatism and the aesthetic demands of public debate, it is them, not self-absorbed media stars. The anger of discriminated minorities has the potential to truly change things for the better in this country. Unlike the twittering complaints directed at the countryside, at centrists, or at anyone who is a convenient and typical target for online warriors for democracy.” -- MARKIEWKA ON THE MENTALITY THAT SOCIETY HASN'T MATURED: “This is a broader problem for the opposition, because this moralizing language weighs it down with every clash with PiS. Democratic elections, in principle, are a competition between politicians who try to convince various social groups that they will best represent their interests. According to the most zealous democrats, however, it's different. It's rather society that must try, fulfill its moral duty, and prove that it has finally matured to the standards imposed by the self-proclaimed guardians of democracy. Since society has failed to meet these standards yet again, the only question now is which group failed the most? Hołownia and Biedroń, because they couldn't get 100 percent of their voters to vote for Trzaskowski? The Polish countryside, because it can't distinguish good from evil, and besides, it's dark, lazy, and vile? Or perhaps – as always – the centrists, because instead of writing thirty tweets a day about the evil Kaczor, as befits a true democrat, they were busy with something else.” -- WE ARE STILL STUCK IN 2015, BELIEVING PLATFORMA DOES EVERYTHING RIGHT AND EVERYONE ELSE FAILS - MARKIEWKA CONTINUES IN KRYTYKA: “Failure is the mother of a thousand recipes for victory. And that's good, the opposition must argue about what's next, because the worst thing would be to repeat the same pattern over and over. And unfortunately, we are still stuck in 2015, we are still at the stage of the first defeat by PiS. Platforma did everything right, the others failed, Lewica has two or three percent, so it should shut up, and anyway, the nation has woken up, and Kijowski, meaning Trzaskowski, will lead us to democracy.” -- MARKIEWKA MOCKS GAZETA WYBORCZA AND THE ABSOLUTE DRAW: “At times, it takes on the character of self-parody. After the announcement of the exit poll results, "Gazeta Wyborcza" reported an "absolute draw." What on earth is the difference between a "draw" and an "absolute draw"? Would writing only "draw" have been considered defeatism, or even – worst of all – a sign of centrism and secret support for Duda? The day after the elections, one could think that "Gazeta Wyborcza" journalists had found an interdimensional portal and moved to an alternative reality where the opposition won the election because – you know – PiS is coming to an end.” https://krytykapolityczna.pl/kraj/markiewka-polityka-milosci-do-lamusa/ -- PIS HIT A GLASS CEILING - BELIEVES LUDWIK DORN: “In three years, in parliamentary elections, and in five years in presidential elections, the social structure will change. Some voters inclined to support PiS will simply die. The proportion of people with at least a high school education will increase. The number of farmers and workers will decrease. There will be continuous migration from villages to cities. The policy of generous social transfers, thanks to which PiS maintains the loyalty of a significant portion of voters relying on them, will prove impossible in the face of an economic crisis. In these elections – not for political reasons, but structural ones – PiS hit a glass ceiling.” https://tvn24.pl/magazyn-tvn24/dorn-pis-uderzyl-w-szklany-sufit-jego-odpowiedz-moze-byc-tylko-jedna,280,4909 -- KACZYŃSKI DOES NOT INTEND TO REPLACE THE PRIME MINISTER - DOMINIKA WIELOWIEYSKA IN GW: “However, the PiS leader does not intend to replace the prime minister. He has not announced this in conversations with colleagues. – Kaczyński is strengthening Morawiecki now – one of my interlocutors from PiS told me. It is symptomatic that in an interview with PAP, Kaczyński mentioned Morawiecki alongside Duda as authors of the victory on July 12. This must have stung Zbigniew Ziobro and Beata Szydło unpleasantly, as it may indicate that their claims about Morawiecki's harmfulness have not necessarily found favor at Nowogrodzka.” -- WILL KACZYŃSKI ANOINT MORAWIECKI? - WIELOWIEYSKA CONTINUES: “The chances of replacing Morawiecki are currently zero, although no one knows what Kaczyński plans. He can change his mind hour by hour. Nevertheless, the presidential elections were also a plebiscite for or against the PiS government, headed by Morawiecki. While voices are emerging about a conspiracy against Morawiecki and potential successors – Mariusz Błaszczak, Jacek Kurski, Daniel Obajtek, head of PKN Orlen, or Jacek Sasin. And on the other hand, there is information that Kaczyński wants to anoint Morawiecki as his successor in the future:” -- WIELOWIEYSKA ON SURE CANDIDATES FOR REPLACEMENT: “Positions could be lost by Łukasz Szumowski – Minister of Health, Krzysztof Ardanowski – Minister of Agriculture, Marlena Maląg – Minister of Labour, head of the Ministry of Sport Danuta Dmowska-Andrzejczuk, Minister of Finance Tadeusz Kościński. The head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, Mariusz Kamiński, also appeared on this list, but these might just be the dreams of Morawiecki's people. The list is preliminary, because now circles of politicians will be circulating through Nowogrodzka, advocating for dismissals or against them.” -- WIELOWIEYSKA ON ZIOBRO'S PLAN: “Ziobro would also like to implement further changes in the judiciary. This concerns flattening the court structure and unifying the status of judges: instead of judges of district, regional, and appellate courts, there would be one position of a common court judge. Such a change would allow for the removal of those who do not suit PiS. This reform, which will only deepen our conflict with the European Union, as well as the pacification of free media and local governments, are the greatest threats in the future.” https://wyborcza.pl/magazyn/7,124059,26138489,kaczynskiego-fascynuja-intrygi-i-zwroty-akcji-na-kremlu-czy.html -- PIS ON THE PATH OF SLD AND PSL, BUT PIS'S ELECTORATE REPRODUCES FASTER - DR RAFAŁ CHWEDORUK IN CONVERSATION WITH PIOTR WITWICKI IN RZ: “PiS has entered the path previously followed by SLD and PSL. The former group, after the Rywin affair, was left only with the most loyal electorate, mainly retired and ex-military. A similar situation occurred with parties of similar origins, though with a more rural electorate, in Romania, Serbia, or Slovakia. There is also a theory that PiS's electorate will reproduce faster. Where there are traditional social ties, demographics indeed look better. Therefore, Catholics are increasing their share of the population at the expense of other Christian denominations in Northern Ireland or the USA. However, let us remember that 500+ did not cause a demographic boom, it only mitigates losses.” -- THE RACE TO REACH THE SEGMENT FIRST - CHWEDORUK CONTINUES: “Depopulation processes and agglomeration development affect smaller towns. And what now? With these elections, a new race has begun. Either PiS will reach some segment of the liberal electorate, or the opposition will reach some segment of the peripheral electorate.” -- AN INVOKATION OF A NEW 500+ IS CALLING FOR PLATFORMA'S SUICIDE - CHWEDORUK CONTINUES IN RZ: “There is one more important thing: community. Does anyone offer it today besides PiS? No, and that's why we have the result we have today. Perhaps Platforma will eventually conclude that doing the same things over and over again does not bring results. Platforma's problem is not entirely symmetrical to its main opponents. PiS has deepened its electorate in those social groups where it is overrepresented. The opposition's electorate is diverse. When I hear invocations that Trzaskowski should present a program today and launch a new 500+, I know that someone is urging this formation to commit suicide. The interests of the urban middle class are economically different from the interests of those voters who are wavering. I think the expectation formulated towards PO for a new 500+ is rather aimed at inventing some campaign engine. It's not about multiplying social promises, but for example, about an idea on how to fight for public institutions. Only one needs to have an idea on how to sell it to voters.” -- THE PLACE OF THE LEFT IN PARADES WITH A NEUROTIC MIDDLE-CLASS AVANT-GARDE? - CHWEDORUK CONTINUES: “Nostalgia for the PRL is greatest in the countryside or in medium-sized towns, while the left worries about the equality parade, which is attended by representatives of numerous large corporations – including those that exploit workers and transfer profits. The question is whether the left's place is among the pensioners in Częstochowa, or at parades with the neurotic middle-class avant-garde. Which will always be more pragmatic than leftist. And they will prefer a strong Platform with a fashionable Trzaskowski, who knows languages perfectly, over a weak left.” https://www.rp.pl/Plus-Minus/307179993-Rafal-Chwedoruk-Ktos-namawia-Platforme-Obywatelska-do-samobojstwa.html -- RAFAŁ TRZASKOWSKI ON HIS ATTITUDE TOWARDS ADVISORS IN THE CAMPAIGN - IN CONVERSATION WITH AGATA KONDZIŃSKA AND WIONA SZPAŁA IN GW: “These 10 million votes come precisely from naturalness. People saw that. If I had listened only to advisors, I would never have stood so strongly on the side of minorities. I wrote all my speeches myself. I asked advisors for ideas, but I didn't say a single word that I didn't agree with.” -- EVEN IF HARSH WORDS WERE SPOKEN, WE DIDN'T DEHUMANIZE ANYONE - TRZASKOWSKI CONTINUES: “I don't shy away from criticizing our mistakes; the talk of "total opposition" gave PiS fuel – let's also be fair. Even if harsh words were spoken by Platforma politicians, there was no dehumanization of political opponents, calling them traitors. That's the difference. I don't like words about packs, but none of the opposition politicians spoke of "treacherous faces" or "rabble." Prime Minister Szydło shouted at me from the parliamentary tribune that I was a traitor. People can accept words that someone is a cheat, even if it's not true, or a failure. Strong words, but they fit within political debate. But a traitor, a non-Pole – that's dehumanization, which can lead to tragedy.” -- I THOUGHT GOŚKA WOULD TIP THE SCALES - TRZASKOWSKI CONTINUES IN GW: “I looked with pride at my wife, her naturalness, her toughness, and I truly thought that Poles needed this. I thought that thanks to her, we would also win the elections, that she would tip the scales for those who don't vote politically but want an active first lady – but even that wasn't enough.” -- CAMPAIGN STAFF LEARNED THEY NEED TO GIVE ME IDEAS, NOT ARGUE WITH ME - TRZASKOWSKI CONTINUES: “After the first disputes, my campaign staff learned that I am stubborn, that I speak only and exclusively in my own voice. Especially after the first speech, in Poznań, when they stated that it was not polarizing enough, that I was extending my hand too much to the other side. I spoke then about Lech Kaczyński, that I valued him, I even mentioned that in 1989, my friends and I were picking up posters of Jarosław. I explained the origin of my political engagement... And the campaign staff are very afraid when I talk about myself, that it will come out somehow... I don't know, too... naturally. Later, everyone learned that instead of arguing with me, they should give me good ideas, leave me the freedom to arrange those building blocks, listen to what I say, and try to develop it. The last few days were focused on what the final message should look like. Everyone knew that in Rybnik I would speak from the heart and from the mind; these were rather discussions about how to conclude the campaign.” -- TRZASKOWSKI ON THE MEETING WITH DUDA AT THE WARSAW UPRISING MUSEUM: “We will see each other on July 31 at the Warsaw Uprising Museum, where we will meet with veterans. A very good opportunity, a symbolic place, an important historical moment. I am curious if the president, after the campaign, has any reflections on the style of governing in the Presidential Palace. Will he become more neutral in his second and final term, when he no longer has to listen to anyone? Will he read laws before signing them? And without malice, just out of curiosity, I would like to ask if there is a chance he will side with the national interest when PiS starts to destroy local government autonomy.” https://wyborcza.pl/magazyn/7,124059,26139563,rafal-trzaskowski-ludzie-sie-budza-jestem-gotowy-do.html -- MONIKA JARUZELSKA ON HOW MEDIA MANAGE OUR CORTISOL - SPEAKING IN CONVERSATION WITH ELIZA OLCZYK IN RZ: “I approach politics stoically, with distance and calm; I try not to let emotions overwhelm me. For a long time, I have felt that the media, which lament our society's division so much, while having the greatest share in it and a vital interest, have turned us into fans of two teams – PiS or PO. And just like in football, defeat or victory of "our" team is accompanied by immense emotions. Politicians and media manage our cortisol; this is neuropolitics.” -- JARUZELSKA ON DUDA'S VETO OF THE DEGRADATION LAW: “However, it must be admitted that President Andrzej Duda, who in many people's minds signs everything PiS sends him, did not sign this law, which was very well received by military circles. Meanwhile, this was a particularly difficult veto for him, because he stood against his own political environment at a critical moment when he brought about the resignation of the Minister of National Defense, Antoni Macierewicz, who was in conflict with him. He was replaced by Mariusz Błaszczak, who was friendly to Andrzej Duda, and yet the president vetoed the degradation law and even said during a ceremony, perhaps in Kołobrzeg, that a Polish soldier should not be divided. Military circles also remember the issue of decommunizing streets in Warsaw. This is again a PiS initiative. Of course, but after a court ruling overturning the renaming of streets initiated by PiS, the mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, de-communized 17 Stycznia Street of his own volition. Military circles sent him an appeal to keep the name 17 Stycznia, and I also signed it. What's more, the Włochy district council and the residents of the street wanted the name 17 Stycznia to remain. At a meeting of the naming committee, of which I am vice-chairwoman, a vote was held on this matter.” -- JARUZELSKA ON CASTING HOŁOWNIA AS THE CULPRIT: “Of course, that was the most resonant slogan of this campaign. Although for me, the discussion about whether LGBT are people or an ideology is pure populism. One does not exclude the other. LGBT are people who form certain communities, and these communities form a specific ideology. It's the same on the other side of the dispute, where the anti-LGBT ideology prevails. And in this campaign, it happened that when one of the Porozumienie politicians said on Katarzyna Kolenda's program that LGBT are not people, but an ideology, he couldn't finish his sentence because the interview was interrupted. Just like in a match – what matters is who scores the goal, not the nuances of the game. And just like in sports, after a lost match, one looks for culprits. I see that after Trzaskowski's loss, Szymon Hołownia has already been cast as the culprit because not all of his voters voted for the Civic Coalition candidate, only three-quarters of them. It's clear that some find it difficult to bear defeat.” -- IS IT POSSIBLE TO CURRY FAVOR WITH THOSE CALLED FASCISTS? - JARUZELSKA CONTINUES IN RZ: “During the presidential campaign, it turned out that it is possible to curry favor even with those who were called fascists, i.e., with Krzysztof Bosak's electorate. When I saw Basia Nowacka leaning with concern over the difficult fate of Konfederacja MPs whose microphones were being turned off by PiS in the Sejm, I wrote to her half-jokingly to be careful, because she would be inscribed in the "Never Again" association's "brown book" for defending fascists.” https://www.rp.pl/Plus-Minus/307179995-Monika-Jaruzelska-Media-zmienily-nas-w-kibicow-dwoch-druzyn--PiS-i-PO.html?cid -- THE TIGER CAUSED ME TO END UP AMONG THE COMMON PEOPLE - WŁADYSŁAW KOSINIAK-KAMYSZ IN CONVERSATION WITH KRZYSZTOF SKÓRZYŃSKI AND ARLETA ZALEWSKA ON TVN24: “And I have no problem with that. And you know what? I've been in politics for 10 years, but only the "tiger" caused me to reach the common people.” -- A CANDIDACY TO SAVE PO, NOT TO WIN - CONTINUES WKK: “The fact that PO did not support me or Szymon Hołownia was a mistake, because according to polls, we had the greatest chance of winning against Andrzej Duda. But I understand Borys Budka, that he was looking for a rescue for himself. Because Trzaskowski was a candidate to save Platforma, not to win the election.” -- PLATFORMA DIDN'T PLAY FAIR - WKK: “Platforma didn't play fair. And let's put a period there.” -- WKK ON CONTACT WITH HOŁOWNIA: “Of course I know him and I talk to him. And to be clear: I am aware of Szymon Hołownia's capital. I know what he has, what he doesn't have, and what I have.” -- JUST ARRIVING IN KOŃSKIE WOULD BE A VICTORY - CONTINUES WKK IN CONVERSATION WITH SKÓRZYŃSKI AND ZALEWSKA: “I don't know that, but just arriving in Końskie would be a victory. I would go there, I would enter the lion's den and face the voters' questions.” -- WKK ON GOWIN: “I will answer directly: I still see him by Jarosław Kaczyński's side. And I don't get the impression that he wants to leave the ruling camp today.” -- I WILL REFUSE A JOINT LIST AGAIN - CONTINUES WKK: “And I will refuse again. Because the European elections were a failure. And we have to say that clearly. The easiest elections for the opposition ended in disaster. Koalicja Europejska suffered a defeat. A joint list is a closed topic, and someone who doesn't understand that will not win any subsequent elections. If Borys Budka dreams of being the hegemon in the opposition, that's the surest way to lose seven elections in a row. I don't know how many more offers from Platforma and PiS I have to refuse to get rid of the "cherry on top" label for PSL? ” -- THERE WAS AN OFFER OF SENATE MARSHAL AND MUCH MORE - CONTINUES WKK: “Someone trustworthy from PiS, who knows someone from PSL. They are exploring the matter, making job offers: for families, children, friends. Such a senator would get whatever he wanted. Only in the case of PSL senators – because regarding Platforma, of course, I don't know – such temptation makes no sense. If I wanted to form a coalition with PiS in the Senate, I would do it after the November elections, when, for example, the offer of Senate Marshal was on the table. And much, much more.” https://tvn24.pl/magazyn-tvn24/kosiniak-kamysz-zona-pojechala-grubo-po-bandzie,280,4919 -- MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI IN RZ ON THE Duda CAMP'S PROBLEM WITH HYPOCRISY: “This is linked to the second challenge. It is impossible to reproduce certain values without a strong family or without a fairly indoctrinated school. The problem is that over the last five years, PiS has lost the war for education. For reasons of current political tactics, it has come into conflict with teachers. The majority of teachers now come from a new generation for whom this metapolitical dispute over values is entirely unimportant. To achieve its goal, PiS would first have to create a new teaching staff. I will repeat this reservation, however: if Rokita is right. Because I have the impression that many conservatives could not bring themselves to vote for Duda, partly because of his tacit acceptance of the world imagined by public television, which has little in common with Christianity. Nothing harms values as much as hypocrisy. And it is perhaps the most irritating characteristic of the current ruling camp, embodied by Andrzej Duda.” https://www.rp.pl/Plus-Minus/307179988-Michal-Szuldrzynski-Hipokryzja-bije-w-wartosci.html -- THE TOP STUDENT IN THE DUNCE'S CORNER - KRYSTYNA NASZKOWSKA IN GW ON KOSINIAK'S SITUATION: “And suddenly this eternal top student landed in the dunce's corner. Not only did he not make it to the second round, but he also received few votes. The awakening was so painful that Kosiniak was unable to do what was expected of a statesman, and what a few of his colleagues did – he could not bring himself to directly, without any games, support Trzaskowski. This is what, for example, the young mayor of Ciechanów from PSL did – publicly, at a rally, he not only said that he would vote for the mayor of Warsaw in the second round because it was also in his own interest, but he also called on the residents of Ciechanów to cast their votes for Trzaskowski.” -- ŻELICHOWSKI ON 20% - IN NASZKOWSKA'S ARTICLE: “One of these old, sidelined activists, Stanisław Żelichowski, says: Now is the time to consolidate the Polish Coalition so that all its participants have a guaranteed place by statute. If we create a unified organism, we will become the third political force worth about 20 percent of the votes, and without our support, neither PiS nor PO will have a majority.” https://wyborcza.pl/7,75968,26133002,dlaczego-wieczny-prymus-kosiniak-kamysz-wyladowal-w-oslej-lawce.html -- DISPUTES OVER DMOWSKI LIKE OVER WILSON IN THE USA - PIOTR ZAREMBA IN POLSAT NEWS: “In recent years, disputes have erupted in Poland over Roman Dmowski, whom the left denies the status of a figure worthy of monuments due to his anti-Semitism, which I do not dispute. Not being a sympathizer of these and other views, I defended his historical role, for example from 1918-1919, when he diligently advocated for Polish borders at the Paris conference. And then I drew analogies with Wilson. Americans will not renounce him, even if his views on racial issues are critically assessed, because he is deserving of American statehood, I argued. Poles should follow their example. And suddenly it turned out that this has its limits. Although the dispute over Wilson broke out in Princeton back in 2015, when Black students even occupied the university president's office, the scientific commission appointed at the time had not yet excommunicated him. This only happened now, with a strange revolution that resembles a prairie fire.” -- INTELLECTUALS INTIMIDATED BY THE LABEL OF RACIST - ZAREMBA CONTINUES: “And announcing the defense of the monument of the four presidents on Mount Rushmore. However, its digressive brutalities do not offer a positive vision of American history. A sensible voice from intellectuals or artists with authority would be needed. They, however, join in, or fall silent, intimidated by the media's clamor and the label of racist. In Poland, the response to revisionism is currently massive 'sweetening' of history. This is unsustainable when everything becomes the subject of angry investigations. But even that seems less dangerous to me. Above all, I fear a uprooted, naked Judeo-Christian civilization. And I fear us in the role of infantile children waiting for fairy tales with modern curses and morals. We will not become wiser.” https://tygodnik.polsatnews.pl/news/2020-07-17/zaremba-o-zmarnowanej-szansie-kosciola/ -- THE CHURCH, BY FOLLOWING THIS PATH, WILL HAVE NOTHING MORE TO OFFER - PIOTR ZAREMBA IN RZ: “Something else is also important to me. Many times I have repeated myself how wise, far-sighted, and unhurried an institution the Church is. In this case, even beyond the screaming moral aspect (which I do not forget), this far-sightedness is not visible. The alleged adherence to the strength of peace becomes blindness, expediency. It exposes itself to ever-increasing rot, which was not the sole cause, but certainly contributed to the process of secularization in many Western countries. Do Polish bishops want to prepare us for the Irish path? In such a case, there will be nothing to collect. And the right will be left alone, with a worthless ally, and the Church will have nothing left to offer anyone.” https://archiwum.rp.pl/artykul/1432232-Historia-dla-grzecznych-dzieci.html -- PHOTO. Auguste Renoir, Terrasses à Cagnes, private collection. Co-founder and one of the leading representatives of Impressionism. Renoir first visited Cagnes-sur-Mer in 1898. At that time, it was a village of merchants that immediately charmed him. Beautiful landscapes, sun, sea, excellent food and wine. However, the most important asset of this place (for the painter, whose health was constantly deteriorating) was the microclimate that prevailed there. In 1907, Renoir bought an estate outside the village, on the road to the coast, and a year later built Domaine des Collettes, a house in a Neo-Provençal style. https://niezlasztuka.net/ciekawostki/muzeum-renoira-w-cagnes-sur-mer/ -- BIRTHDAYS: Jacek Fedorowicz, Renata Beger, Anna Milczanowska, Marek Plura, Radosław Lubczyk, SUNDAY: Stanisław Piotrowicz, Łukasz Pawełek, Radomir Wit, Paweł Rybicki, Maciek Grabowski.
