POLITICAL STATE OF PLAY: Dąbrowska on PiS's Operation Hyacinth, Czarnek as Kiszczak's Disciple, Danielewski on PiS's Panicked Retreat, Koziński on Presidential Provocation

-- BIELAN AND DWORCZYK DISTANCE THEMSELVES FROM CZARNEK'S WORDS, HOŁOWNIA CAMPAIGN MANAGER WARNS TVP DEBATE MIGHT BE THE ONLY ONE - 300LIVE: https://300polityka.pl/live/2020/06/15/ -- OKO.PRESS ANNOUNCES THREE IPSOS POLLS, ONE THIS WEEK: “Monday, June 15, marks the beginning of one of the two most important weeks of the election campaign. We can expect a televised debate on TVP on Wednesday, and another – according to 300polityka.pl – on Friday on TVN. This week, we will also publish the first of three pre-election polls conducted for us by the reputable Ipsos polling firm.” https://oko.press/przed-nami-kluczowe-dni-ofensywa-dudy-przeciwko-lgbt-zakonczyla-sie-panika-raport-z-kampanii/ -- PIS WANTS TO MAINTAIN MOBILIZATION FOR THE SECOND ROUND AND COUNTS ON OPPOSITION VOTERS GOING ON HOLIDAY - DOMINIKA WIELOWIEYSKA IN GW: “They could, of course, mobilize Poles who are thoroughly fed up with the constant demonization of homosexual individuals. However, the president's campaign staff's calculation is different: the PiS electorate, almost one hundred percent loyal to Duda, is very conservative and very pro-church. And very determined. They will go to the polls, no matter what. PiS wants to sustain this mobilization until the second round, counting on the fact that opposition voters are scattered, uncertain, not fully committed, and might go on vacation on July 12th, forgetting about their voting certificates. This is Andrzej Duda's only hope.” -- THE LGBT TOPIC ESCAPES AFEIRS AND RECESSION - WIELOWIEYSKA CONTINUES: “CBOS also reports that those declaring a relatively high determination to participate in the election are respondents with right-wing political views, and those who frequently participate in religious practices, even several times a week. So, if anyone wonders why PiS wants to talk exclusively about LGBT, here's the answer. Another reason: the narrative of the government's great success in fighting the pandemic is no longer convincing. Other European countries have passed the peak of infections, we have not. Scandals involving the purchase of masks that don't meet standards, phantom ventilators, and face shields at exorbitant prices weigh heavily on the image of the health ministry and the government. And furthermore, a recession is looming. These topics must be avoided at all costs. The LGBT issue, from this perspective, fulfills PiS's expectations.” -- WIELOWIEYSKA ON NOT MOCKING CBOS: “In PiS's case, it hit the mark – although I remember commentators mocking this polling firm, claiming it unbelievably inflated the ratings of the ruling party. Support for the opposition European Coalition was very understated, but again, there was a large group of undecided individuals in the survey, likely future voters of this bloc. Last year, before the parliamentary elections, CBOS overestimated PiS's ratings by a little over 2 percentage points – so it wasn't a complete prognostic failure. And it underestimated the Civic Coalition's ratings by more than 4 percent, which exceeds the statistical error.” https://wyborcza.pl/7,75968,26029225,dlaczego-pis-stawia-na-wojne-religijna-odpowiedz-jest-w.html -- THE OPPOSITION NEEDS MAXIMUM MOBILIZATION AND EFFECTIVE CAMPAIGNING FOR 800,000 UNDECIDED VOTERS - ANDRZEJ MACHOWSKI IN GW: “The opposition needs two things: maximum mobilization of its voters and effective campaigning for approximately 800,000 undecided voters. Much depends on the campaign teams of Hołownia, Kosiniak-Kamysz, and Biedroń in these matters. For the opposition to achieve a good result on June 28th – good enough for an opposition candidate to have a chance to win against Andrzej Duda in the second round – two things are crucial. The first is the maximum mobilization of their voters. I am not afraid that Trzaskowski's supporters will stay home. This is primarily about the voters of Hołownia, Kosiniak-Kamysz, and Biedroń – so they don't lose faith in the point of voting, even though their candidate has no real chance of reaching the second round.” -- HOŁOWNIA, KOSINIAK, AND BIEDROŃ'S VOTERS MUST BE MOTIVATED FOR THE SECOND ROUND - MACHOWSKI CONTINUES: “The crucial issue is effectively campaigning for undecided voters. In the June 2020 poll, there were about a million such voters. Likely, 200,000 of them will support marginal candidates. That leaves 800,000. An analysis of the correlation between candidates' gains/losses and the increase/decrease in undecided voters between February and June 2020 indicates that a significant majority of undecided voters are wavering between which opposition candidate to vote for, not whether to support the opposition or Duda. Therefore, their decision-making process must be made as easy as possible (it doesn't matter if they ultimately support Trzaskowski, Biedroń, Hołownia, or Kosiniak-Kamysz), so they have a strong motivation to vote on June 28th. The problem is that in these two areas, less depends on Trzaskowski's campaign and supporters, and more on the voters and campaign teams of Hołownia, Kosiniak-Kamysz, and Biedroń. If they fail, Andrzej Duda will win. If they rise to the challenge, Rafał Trzaskowski will become president.” https://wyborcza.pl/7,75968,26031272,co-mowia-sondaze-dla-opozycji-jest-za-wczesnie-by-mrozic-szampana.html -- FAKT ON THE FRONT PAGE ABOUT CZARNEK: SHOCK! HERE IS A PIS MP CLAIMING PEOPLE IN POLAND ARE NOT EQUAL. -- NORMALITY ACCORDING TO MP CZARNEK - DZIENNIK WSCHODNI'S FRONT PAGE. -- PIS POLITICIANS ARE INCITING DURING THE CAMPAIGN - GW FRONT PAGE. -- OPERATION HYACINTH ACCORDING TO PIS - ZUZANNA DĄBROWSKA IN RZ: “When in 1985 General Kiszczak launched Operation Hyacinth, aimed at surveilling gay communities, intimidating them, forcing cooperation, and creating the notorious 'pink files,' the authorities at the time fed the militia officers going on this operation on a November morning with the same arguments that MPs Jacek Żalek and Przemysław Czarnek use today. And the latter's words about the 'idiocy of human rights' seem to be a special posthumous gift to his teachers from the 1980s.” -- IT'S HARD TO STAY SILENT WHEN THE PRESIDENT DEFENDS ŻALEK: “However, it is difficult to remain silent when hearing the president of the country, seeking re-election, stand by MP Żalek. Because – whether someone wants it or not – his words can have a causative effect, especially if they are being suggested from Nowogrodzka. What if, when we face attacks on homosexuals by far-right militias or the creation of files about them based on their sexual orientation, we again hear that this is a diversionary tactic in the election campaign?” https://www.rp.pl/Analizy/200619733-Zuzanna-Dabrowska-Akcja-Hiacynt-wedlug-PiS.html -- DUDA'S OFFENSIVE AGAINST LGBT ENDED IN A PANICKED RETREAT - MICHAŁ DANIELEWSKI IN OKO: “Andrzej Duda's campaign team decided to repeat the campaign of hatred against LGBT individuals, which brought PiS success in the European elections. This time, however, the machine faltered: the president and his entourage spent Sunday in a panicked retreat.” -- AGGRESSION DEVOID OF ANY JUSTIFICATION MAY DETER THE UNDECIDED - DANIELEWSKI CONTINUES: “This time, the propaganda machine failed to find any pretext that would justify the hate speech against LGBT individuals, and Andrzej Duda's aggression, devoid of any justification, may cause dislike among undecided voters, those who do not identify with either side of the party dispute. Apparently, Law and Justice realized the same in focus groups, because politicians from the ruling camp spent Sunday in clumsy attempts to twist the narrative. ” https://oko.press/przed-nami-kluczowe-dni-ofensywa-dudy-przeciwko-lgbt-zakonczyla-sie-panika-raport-z-kampanii/ -- WILL PEOPLE GET TIRED OF PiS'S AGITATION? - TOMASZ SAWCZUK IN KULTURA LIBERALNA: “All these statements are outrageous and appeal to the worst political patterns, which have no place in a democratic state. PiS politicians are trying to create a division between Duda and Trzaskowski that would define the campaign. However, when an illusionist performs the same trick repeatedly, we start to see the trick – in this case, a disgusting trick. Won't people get tired of PiS's agitation? Will cynical scaremongering and pitting Poles against each other still work?” -- KACZYŃSKI IS GETTING A BIT BORING, IS THIS STILL AN ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS? - Sawczuk continues: “Instead, Kaczyński is a bit boring, a bit distorting, and a bit frightening. Again, as in his previous appearance on RMF FM, the PiS leader is speaking past social experience rather than shaping it. In 2015, Kaczyński aligned himself with a favorable moment with a political diagnosis repeated for decades. Since then, he has continued to repeat the same thing. And time moves on.” https://kulturaliberalna.pl/2020/06/15/sawczuk-w-poniedzialek-nudzenie-i-straszenie-list-kaczynskiego-jak-zgrana-plyta/ -- VOTERS MAY CONSIDER THE PRESIDENT TOO PROVOCATIVE - AGATON KOZIŃSKI IN WP: “In the European elections, this yielded a historically high result for PiS. But back then, it wasn't the ruling camp that initiated worldview issues, but Civic Platform. Specifically, Trzaskowski, who as the mayor of Warsaw signed the 'LGBT Card.' Now Duda has started this topic. And that matters. Even if Poles don't want any 'gay weddings,' they might consider that the incumbent president is being too provocative in this area. That he is the aggressor. In such a situation, Duda's campaign idea will backfire.” -- AN OPERATION IN THE STYLE OF GRANDPA FROM THE WEHRMACHT WILL SHOW HOW MUCH VOTERS HAVE CHANGED IN 15 YEARS - KOZIŃSKI'S CONCLUSION: “Today, the dispute over LGBT, but also the way it is introduced into the discussion, strongly resembles the times of 'Grandpa from the Wehrmacht.' Will it bring a similar effect? The election results will show. And incidentally, it will also show how much Polish voters have changed between 2005 and 2020.” https://opinie.wp.pl/kozinski-andrzej-duda-przeszedl-do-z-definitely-ofensywy-tylko-czy-atak-na-lgbt-da-mu-punkty-wyborcze-opinia-6521433316087937a -- AGATA SZCZĘŚNIAK IN OKO ON THE FIRE AT DUDA'S CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS: “Fire at Andrzej Duda's campaign headquarters. After the president said that LGBT people are not humans, but an ideology, and one worse than Bolshevism, he is now sending corrections in English. And he accuses foreign media of disinformation. We checked: the president said exactly what was quoted.” https://oko.press/duda-idzie-na-wojne-z-mediami-lgbt/ -- PIS CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS IS ALREADY STARTING THE SECOND ROUND CAMPAIGN - ŁUKASZ LIPIŃSKI ON POLITYKA PORTAL: “PiS's campaign headquarters has accepted that Duda will face a runoff with Trzaskowski and is already starting that second campaign. Contrary to the stereotypical opinion, this does not mean 'shifting to the center' and seeking mythical centrist voters. PiS has already won this type of campaign once, basing its strategy on strong polarization, attacks on the 'LGBT ideology,' and supposed enemies of the Catholic faith. Now they want to repeat this success – the success of the European campaign from May last year, which allowed for a clear defeat of the European Coalition uniting most opposition forces.” -- LIPIŃSKI ON NIXON'S SILENT MAJORITY MOTIF: “In PiS's strategy, one can find echoes of one of the most important concepts in American politics during the presidency of Republican President Richard Nixon. As early as 1969, in his first year of presidency, the future hero of the Watergate scandal found himself on the defensive. Turbulent peace demonstrations against the Vietnam War were sweeping across the United States. After the assassination of black community leader Martin Luther King, there was great racial tension in the country. This 'silent majority' is meant to be conservative voters, primarily from southern and eastern Poland (though not exclusively), who, frightened by the vision of 'child sexualization' by 'LGBT ideology,' are supposed to mobilize, join the core PiS electorate, and together ensure Duda's victory, just as they gave PiS victory in the 2019 European elections.” -- A CHANGE IN STRATEGY DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN SUCCESS - LIPIŃSKI CONTINUES: “However, a change in strategy does not necessarily mean success. The presidential campaign team has opted for a rather abrupt maneuver in the final stretch before the elections (even assuming the crucial second round will take place in almost a month). To use sailing terminology: Duda has executed a 'tack,' and this is a maneuver that, if done carelessly, can lead to capsizing. Voters may not understand where the previous themes and promises have gone. Consolidating a political message requires time, even in the era of social media and the internet.” -- IF THE TREND DOES NOT CHANGE THIS WEEK, PIS WILL BE IN SERIOUS TROUBLE - LIPIŃSKI'S CONCLUSION: “The potential effectiveness of Duda's new strategy should be shown by public opinion polls in the coming week. Recently, the polling support for candidates in the first round has stabilized, and in the second, the president has been losing. If there is no change in trend within a few days, it means that Andrzej Duda is already in serious trouble.” https://www.polityka.pl/tygodnikpolityka/kraj/1960036,1,tydzien-kampanii-ostry-zwrot-dudy-pomoze-mu.read -- JACEK KARNOWSKI ON THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE LGBT IDEOLOGY GAINING POWER OVER POLAND: “If the LGBT ideology gains power over Poland, our freedom, which is currently exceptional on the European map, will become a thing of the past. Because everywhere they win, open debate ends, and fear, terror, and brutal pacification of dissenters emerge. The education of our children will be taken over by people who mass-produce neuroses and dramas in the West, and who always want more. Political choices will be narrowed down to a competition between more or less zealous implementers of this next madness. From our traditions and values, perhaps, only sharing an Easter egg will remain, pardon, Spring Festival.” -- POLAND, BOUND BY LGBT IDEOLOGY, WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONDUCT SOVEREIGN POLICY - KARNOWSKI CONTINUES: “But that's not all: independence is also at stake. Poland, bound by LGBT ideology, will not be able to conduct sovereign policy. It will be a spectral parrot, constantly being pushed into complexes, chasing what cannot be caught, incapable of withstanding pressure, of standing up to stronger powers. And probably also – sooner or later – effectively disarmed. Disarmed in the same way that communism disarmed infected countries from within.” https://wpolityce.pl/polityka/504723-polska-skrepowana-ideologia-lgbt-szybko-straci-suwerennosc -- MICHAŁ KARNOWSKI ON BARTOSZ WĘGLARCZYK'S TWEET AGAINST VALUING VICTIMS: “What is this embarrassing valuation of victims anyway? I was recently, just before the epidemic, in both camps of Auschwitz again – I prayed for the murdered Poles, I prayed at the gas chambers for the murdered Jews. I prayed for all victims – including the murdered homosexuals. It would never have occurred to me to throw around numbers of victims, this or that, to politically strike at an unliked president. Some boundary of shame for the media with German capital has been crossed once again. Let us defend Poland, let us guard the truth – lies never stop on their own, they want more and more.” https://wpolityce.pl/polityka/504709-zadnych-granic-teraz-chca-zawlaszczyc-meczenstwo-polakow -- TRZASKOWSKI'S LETTER MAY APPEAL TO MODERATES - RENATA GROCHAL IN NEWSWEEK: “The goal of this letter is to demobilize PiS voters, whom Kaczyński is trying to mobilize by scaring them with Trzaskowski. However, this letter may also appeal to other voters, tired of the language of hate and political divisions, and there are more and more such people in Poland.” https://www.newsweek.pl/opinie/kogo-trzaskowski-mobilizuje-a-kogo-usypia/ -- IT'S A CHOICE OF PATH - MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI IN RZ: “Just as the traditionalist-social bloc wants to invest in families and large infrastructure projects, the progressive bloc wants to invest in a liberal society and a network of soft skills. The metaphor that stirs the right-wing minds is a transport hub, while the metaphor for the liberal bloc could be the Vistula boulevards in the capital – a space filled by local entrepreneurs, artists, and ordinary residents spending their free time together. This is, of course, a simplification, but the duel between Duda and Trzaskowski will not be a duel of personalities; it will be a choice of the path Poland will take in the coming decades.” https://www.rp.pl/Komentarze/200619712-Michal-Szuldrzynski-Romantycy-i-liberalowie.html -- MARCIN CELIŃSKI ON IT BEING A WASTE OF AIRTIME FOR ŻALEK: “The question arises again – why invite people like Jacek Żalek, Janusz Kowalski, or Zbigniew Gryglas (to mention just a few of my 'favorites') to serious journalistic programs? To find out that they are bothered by various obsessions, are loud homophobes, and cannot converse without offending the hosts and other participants? That they hold positions for which the minimal intellectual requirements far exceed their peak capabilities? We already know that without their participation in programs. It's pointless. It's a waste of airtime, the nerves of journalists, and viewers. If we complain about the level of discussion, its overload with aggression and hatred, then it's worth introducing boundary rules, after crossing which we exclude them from the debate. And we don't invite them.” https://marcincelinski.blog.polityka.pl/2020/06/14/co-daje-nam-rozmowa-z-zalkiem/ -- TOMASZ TRELA ON BELIEVING IN THE SENSE OF BIEDROŃ'S CAMPAIGN - TELLS ŁUKASZ ROGOJSKI IN GAZETA.PL: “First, we believe in Robert. Second, we believe that Robert is the best possible candidate for the Left in these elections today, so we will be with Robert and his campaign until the very end. The value and necessity of his candidacy are clearly visible at this moment, when the fight for human rights, which the right denies to some, is underway. Moreover, consistency in politics is very important. When we formed the left-wing coalition last year, there were also many voices saying we had no chance, that it was pointless, and in the end, we got 13 percent of the votes. If that campaign had lasted another two weeks, I think we would have surpassed the 15 percent mark. Today, the situation is analogous. I do not believe, and never will believe, the polls saying Robert has 2-3 percent. Such surveys have nothing to do with reality. If we were to be discouraged by one poll or another…” https://wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/wiadomosci/7,114884,26032066,szef-sztabu-biedronia-wrogiem-politycznym-dla-roberta-jest.html -- THERE ARE MORE INFECTIONS - OFFICIAL ASSURANCES ARE SOUNDING INCREASINGLY PATHETIC - MICHAŁ DANIELEWSKI AND PIOTR PACEWICZ IN OKO: “The assurances from Morawiecki and Szumowski about controlling the epidemic are sounding increasingly pathetic. In June, there are more new infections than in May, when there were more than in April. We are leading the EU. In Russia, Putin declared victory with over 500,000 infections. Another day of the epidemic does not confirm these conceited declarations. Sunday, June 14, brought 375 new cases, of which less than half (160) were in the most threatened Silesia region, 52 in Mazovia, 39 in the Łódzkie voivodeship, and 33 in Podlaskie and 23 in Podkarpacie. As can be seen, the average number of new daily infections in June (401) is higher than in May (352), and that was higher than in April (349).” https://oko.press/wirus-sie-nie-cofa-polska-znow-na-czele-unii-europejskiej/ -- ANDRZEJ STANKIEWICZ ON THE FAILURE OF SPENDING 27 MILLION ON PR IN THE USA: “The Polish National Foundation has ended its cooperation with the controversial American PR agency White House Writers Group. Over 2 years, this company received over PLN 27 million from the pockets of Polish taxpayers to improve our country's image in the USA. It is difficult to point to any positive effects of its activities.” https://wiadomosci.onet.pl/tylko-w-onecie/polska-fundacja-narodowa-zegna-sie-z-amerykanska-agencja-whwg/se01gfr -- KACZYŃSKI POSTPONES KNEE SURGERY - SE: “- We know he has another knee surgery ahead of him, but the leader is stubborn and wants to get very involved in the campaign, and what the leader says is sacred – his associates explained to 'Super Express' and he himself explained how the procedure looks and why he won't do it immediately. - I'll be in the hospital for 7-10 days and then I'll be on two crutches, which is quite tiring, I've been through this before. It's impossible to function normally then. But as time goes by and I start walking on one crutch, it will be easier for me to move around – Jarosław Kaczyński told 'SE'.” https://superbiz.se.pl/wiadomosci/duda-wazniejszy-od-jaroslawa-kaczynskiego-tyle-bedzie-to-kosztowac-prezesa-pis-aa-yeiE-L53X-a5Ut.html -- PHOTO. Dirk Bouts, The Fall of the Damned, c. 1450, Palais des Beaux-Arts, Lille Bouts was one of the first Northern European painters to use linear perspective with a single vanishing point, as seen in The Last Supper in the Altarpiece of the Eucharist from Sint Pieters Church in Leuven. The figures in Bouts' compositions, mostly slender with high foreheads, are not highly individualized and move rather stiffly. In some works, the accuracy of depicting natural rocky landscapes is striking. The Fall of the Damned, also sometimes titled Hell, is a painting by the Dutch artist. It vividly illustrates the tortures inflicted upon sinners after death. We see devils resembling reptiles, lizards. In the upper central part of the painting, a winged demon grabs a man and lowers him headfirst into the infernal abyss. Hell itself resembles a rocky crater surrounded by volcanic cones, from which lava and fire erupt. The faces of the sinners, condemned to this monstrous world for eternity, show terror and pain. https://niezlasztuka.net/o-sztuce/sad-ostateczny-pieklo-szatan-w-malarstwie/ -- BIRTHDAYS: Piotr Duda.
