-- SEVERAL STATE ADJUSTMENTS INTRODUCED BY PiS SHOULD BECOME PART OF POLITICAL CONSENSUS - RAFAŁ MATYJA IN TYGODNIK POWSZECHNY: “The rationality of mobilization and cooperation is the inverse of the PiS method of escalating conflict and demobilization, expressed in Kaczyński's famous call: 'support and do not hinder.' While it is impossible to reduce PiS politics to this method, and several important adjustments made by the current government – concerning, for example, the minimum wage or the 500+ program – should become an element of a broader political consensus.”
-- THE CONFLICT ON THE PO AND PIS AXIS HAS BECOME A FACTOR IN THE BREAKDOWN OF TRUST IN THE ENTIRE POLITICAL COMMUNITY - RAFAŁ MATYJA CONTINUES: “Meanwhile, the mutual distrust between the two parties, originating from the antagonized wings of the post-Solidarity camp, has reached an unprecedented level compared to the 1990s. Even in the early stages of the conflict, political consultations between Lech Kaczyński and Donald Tusk were possible, leading to early elections in 2007. Today, similar discussions regarding the incomparably more dramatic issue of conducting presidential elections after the outbreak of the epidemic proved impossible. The conflict on the PO-PiS axis has become a factor in the breakdown of trust in the entire political community, affecting the relationship between the government and local authorities, the functioning of representative bodies, and the strengthening of media bias.”
-- IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF PUBLIC POLICIES, EVEN IF IT DOES NOT IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF "PURE POLITICS" - MATYJA CONTINUES: “Above all, the method of shaping public policies must change, even if it is not possible to combine this with repairing the world of 'pure politics.' The regulation of the public sphere can no longer take place in today's 'amusement park,' i.e., in the triangle between the Presidential Palace, the Sejm, and the Prime Minister's office. Or rather, in a quadrilateral – since the office on Nowogrodzka Street has become the main decision-making point.”
-- MATYJA ON CREATING ISLANDS OF RATIONALITY: “And we should all learn from this change, creating a public space that is better communicated and based on mutual understanding. With institutions ready for cooperation, with more empathetic politicians, with a greater readiness to adapt to new realities. The epidemic has initiated difficult times. The old state and the logic of party warfare are leading us into an abyss of chaos and helplessness. State institutions are weaker than the Prime Minister's boastful speeches would suggest. The alternative to chaos – such as that surrounding the presidential elections – is the creation of islands of rationality. And somewhere at the foundation of future thinking and action – a new formulation of the public interest, taking into account the experience of the last three months.”

-- UNLIKE BRONISŁAW KOMOROWSKI, PRESIDENT DUDA DOES NOT UNDERESTIMATE OPPONENTS - ADAM BIELAN IN AN INTERVIEW WITH SE: “I can assure you that, unlike the predecessor of Andrzej Duda, Bronisław Komorowski, we will not underestimate our opponents. We will work hard to earn the trust of Poles and for Andrzej Duda to remain the head of state. We are aware that the campaign will be a major challenge and a brutal clash. It is already evident that Rafał Trzaskowski's campaign team will stop at nothing and will not shy away from dirty tactics.”
-- THE PRESIDENT HARDLY SPOKE ABOUT TRZASKOWSKI AT ALL - BIELAN CONTINUES: “The President hardly spoke about Rafał Trzaskowski at all. Please point out when Andrzej Duda attacked his opponent.”
-- TRZASKOWSKI IGNORED HIS PROMISES - BIELAN CONTINUES: “– Nothing can compare to the lies spread about the president by Civic Platform members and their propaganda machine. However, reminding Rafał Trzaskowski of his unfulfilled promises in Warsaw is a natural thing. After all, if someone is running for the highest office in the state and effectively begins their campaign, a very important element of such a campaign is an assessment of their credibility. One can promise many things. What is important for a politician is whether they keep their promises. Rafał Trzaskowski made many promises in Warsaw, but he ignored the vast majority of them afterward. I see nothing wrong with the media and voters holding him accountable for this. That is what a campaign is for, so that voters have the opportunity to make an informed decision.”

-- JOLANTA KWAŚNIEWSKA DECLARES SHE WILL VOTE FOR TRZASKOWSKI IN THE FIRST ROUND: “Yes, I will definitely vote for Mr. Rafał Trzaskowski. I have been observing his political path for quite some time, and I like him as a distinctive politician who can captivate crowds. I greatly admired his recent speech in Poznań. I am pleased that he is trying to cool down the emotions, which are indeed very, very high at the moment. I am deeply convinced that with his current path and the path he has taken, he is the right person prepared to hold the highest office. You know, in our home, we are a partnership. But each of us follows a path through life that was most sensible for them. This is exactly what my heart tells me, what I feel, and I admit, I really like Biedroń, I like Mr. Kosiniak-Kamysz, and I like some of Mr. Hołownia's speeches, but I will vote for Rafał.”

-- THE PRIME MINISTER RIGHTLY DECIDED ENOUGH WITH APOLOGIES AND YIELDING TO WITCH HUNTS - JACEK KARNOWSKI: “I am shocked by how easily this Polish, common success (primarily due to natural reasons, the government's success) was drowned in opposition propaganda and machinations of dirty PR people. Prime Minister Morawiecki rightly decided that enough is enough with apologizing for us all managing in a difficult time. It is high time to stop yielding to witch hunts, whose authors want to drown Poland's success in fighting the epidemic with third-rate accusations. If we depart from rational assessment in the matter of fighting the epidemic, if we abandon logic, knowledge, and analysis, we will never be able to call anything by its true name again.”

-- ANY DEHUMANIZATION OF OPPONENTS SHOULD BE CONDEMNED - MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI IN RZ: “By comparing the opposition and the 'media serving it' to buzzing flies, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki – intentionally or unintentionally – perfectly illustrated the ruling party's attitude towards political opponents. United Right believes it knows best, that it has a monopoly on truth, that it alone works hard for the good of the homeland, and that the opposition and media independent of the ruling party only – as Morawiecki put it – throw 'sand into the gears,' they hinder. Like annoying flies. Comparing the opposition to insects should be condemned because it dehumanizes political opponents. And it doesn't matter whether Grzegorz Schetyna speaks of the PiS locusts or Morawiecki of flies. It is precisely this dehumanization of opponents that leads to the totalization of politics – the opposition becomes total in response to the totality of power. And vice versa.”

-- THE ENTIRE PiS DEFENDS THE MINISTER OF HEALTH - GW's lead story.
-- JERZY SAWKA IN GW WHY DUDA WILL LOSE: “However, in real life, few would bet on a posing Andrzej Duda as a son-in-law. Our daughter should be with someone who knows what he wants, knows how to behave, and will provide our grandchildren with a modern future, towards which we may be skeptical, but we know it is inevitable. That's why Duda will lose.”

-- EVERYTHING THE PRESIDENT SAYS SOUNDS LIKE A JOKE - PAWEŁ WROŃSKI IN GW: “Unfortunately, recently almost everything President Duda says sounds like an infantile joke. As seriously as signing the bill on envelope elections, previously called off by the 'pact of the two Jarosławs': Kaczyński and Gowin. It's as if PiS has assigned him the task of amusing the nation during these difficult times of the pandemic.”

-- RYSZARD BUGAJ WARNS AGAINST DEEPENING POLARIZATION - as written in RZ: “The deepening polarization truly poses a threat of dramatic consequences. Unfortunately, the opposition seems to focus solely on removing PiS from power. A Manichean image of Poland is being constructed. The government is presented as the abode of all evil, and the opposition as an sinless force and the repository of good. However, it is still difficult to reconstruct even the most important outlines of the opposition's program. In many matters, the alternative proposed by the opposition boils down to the postulate of 'good policy for Poland.'”

-- EWA SIEDLECKA ON DUAL LAW: “Four years ago, there were warnings about a possible dual law. Now, the state of dual law has become a fact. What's more: it has become everyday reality. Małgorzata Manowska, elected through an unlawful procedure, is the First President of the Supreme Court. Soon, a person elected through an unlawful electoral procedure will be president. And the law is enacted by parliament, whose election was confirmed as valid by the Chamber of Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs of the Supreme Court, elected by the illegally acting neo-KRS. Terms like 'unlawful,' 'legally invalid,' 'unconstitutional,' 'illegal' change meaning depending on the context and who uses them. This is what post-law looks like.”

-- NO ONE LOVES THE BUDGET ANYMORE, THE POSITION OF MINISTER OF FINANCE ONCE AGAIN PROVES TO BE A STOP IN A CAREER - Bartek Godusławski in DGP's lead story: “The current Minister of Finance, Tadeusz Kościński, also does not see himself in the building at Świętokrzyska Street in Warsaw in the long term. In April – just six months after taking office – he officially submitted his CV in the competition for the position of President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He was the first of the candidates whose application reached the London institution. His rivals are former Italian Minister of Finance Pier Carlo Padoan and French Director General of the Treasury Odile Renaud-Basso. Moving to the EBRD would be a return to his old stomping grounds for Kościński – he was born and raised in London and came to Poland in the early 1990s.”

The symbolism of the work is equally ambiguous. According to the researcher Oberhuber, the unicorn could symbolize both virgin purity and pregnancy or marital fidelity.
