-- THE III RP'S SUPPORT BASE SECURED ITS SAFETY, BEGINS TO REGAIN INFLUENCE - writes Jacek Karnowski: "Numerous circles traditionally forming the support base of the Third Polish Republic (media, business, lobbying) have clearly felt that they have achieved their number one goal, which is to ensure their safety. They have integrated into the new constellation, they are doing well, and they are beginning to regain influence. Partly independently, partly in agreement with elements of the ruling camp. Symbolically, important journalists from opposition media are moving into the world of PR and lobbying, i.e., into a sphere where there is no point in seeking great success without good relations with the rulers. Since they are moving, it means they have grounds to believe that a good future awaits them. They likely think so not without reason."
-- THIS PROCESS WAS STRENGTHENED BY A CORRECTION ENDING WITH A CHANGE OF PRIME MINISTER - writes Karnowski: "This process, in a way unavoidable, was strengthened by a political correction ending with a change of prime minister. Its meaning is clear: to reduce tensions in relations with foreign countries, maximize election results, 'normalization.' However, it was also perceived as a sign of fatigue, and perhaps even weakness, of the ruling camp, as well as a signal that PiS is backing down from far-reaching changes (which is not true)."
-- PROCESSES OF REGAINING GROUND ARE BUILDING POTENTIAL THAT MAY BITTERLY SURPRISE THE RIGHT - writes Karnowski: "It has become an encouragement for the 'traditional' distributors of prestige in the Third Polish Republic to more boldly regain ground, especially in the media and psychological spheres. This, in turn, has enabled the escalation of several real problems of the rulers, as well as several entirely fabricated ones, to unprecedented levels. Before we knew it, the game was being played almost exactly as it was before the elections. Not without reason have large-scale manipulation operations become possible again. From the perspective of the ruling camp, the dynamics therefore look unfavorable, despite still impressive approval ratings, which – regardless of their objective height – can be more or less fragile. And although the processes I am writing about today do not threaten the political dominance of the right, they are simultaneously building a potential that may bitterly surprise many: both during the election campaign and on election day." https://wpolityce.pl/m/polityka/386350-dominacja-pis-jest-dzis-niezagrozona-ale-narastaja-procesy-ktore-w-czasie-kampanii-i-w-dniu-wyborow-moga-prawice-gorzko-zaskoczyc
-- OVER TIME, MORAWIECKI SHOULD GET USED TO DEEP WATER - Marcin Fijołek: "Instead of a gradual entry into the pool, the first hundred days of Mateusz Morawiecki were a plunge into deep water. The Prime Minister had – and continues to have – certain difficulties, sometimes looking as if he had choked on the water, but without a doubt, he has stayed afloat. Could he have sometimes acted differently, had more life rafts around him, and calmed his course? Probably yes, and from what can be heard in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, the interested party himself is aware of this. This is a good sign for the future. Therefore, in my humble opinion, there is no point in changing the adopted strategy 180 degrees, but rather to consistently do one's own thing. Over time, Morawiecki should get used to the political deep water and become comfortable in unfavorable conditions. And then it will turn out that this baptism by fire at the beginning of his term may only be beneficial." https://wpolityce.pl/m/polityka/386299-premier-morawiecki-nie-mial-100-dni-spokoju-ale-100-dni-tornada-na-powierzchni-sie-utrzymal-i-to-dobry-znak-na-przyszlosc
-- PAWEŁ LISICKI WRITES THAT NOTHING ADDS UP IN THE SMOLENSK CATASTROPHE CASE: "In the case of the Smolensk catastrophe, nothing adds up. Despite everything, regardless of how much we condemn Russia and Putin, blowing up planes on one's own territory with the heads of foreign states, members of NATO, who are flying on a peaceful visit, is not typical. Secondly, and more importantly, despite nearly eight years of investigating the case, Antoni Macierewicz has not presented any evidence of the existence of explosives that could be compared to the chemical substance detected in the Skripal case or earlier in the Litvinenko case. And even if the former minister swore and pledged, and even if 'Gazeta Polska' announced new explosion sites, bomb names, and the names of American, British, or Swedish experts and specialists every week and every day, and even if the subcommittee presented not only simulations performed by American scientists from Colorado or Kansas, but even from NASA or the Moon, something as small as... a trace of explosive substance is still missing. The 'Novichok' detected by the British in the Skripal case is missing. I will repeat once more: this is only a suspicion. Because only the sum of suspicions – Skripal's past, the nature of the attack, the material, and the context – allows us to consider the thesis of a Russian assassination attempt on him as highly probable." https://opinie.wp.pl/skripal-otruty-a-macierewicz-pyta-o-wrak-czy-kiedys-przestanie-6230856217692289a
-- THE REGIONAL HEAD OF THE CIVIC PLATFORM WILL NOT RUN FOR PRESIDENT IN LUBLIN UNDER THE… PO BANNER: "It is quite surprising that the party leader in the region renounces the party banner," says Dr. Wojciech Maguś, a political scientist from Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, specializing in political marketing." http://www.tokfm.pl/Tokfm/7,103454,23159375,szef-regionu-platformy-nie-bedzie-w-wyborach-prezydenckich-w.html
-- GOVERNMENT GIFT FOR DEVELOPERS - ON THE FRONT PAGE OF GW: "The draft special act was created back in the Ministry of Development and Finance headed by Mateusz Morawiecki; today, the Ministry of Investment and Development coordinates the matter. It justifies that the act 'will reduce legal barriers that limit housing development.' The ministry regrets (!) that under current regulations, the construction of housing investments must comply with the spatial development plan. 'This mechanism, and especially the lengthy process of adopting local plans, does not serve to accelerate and facilitate the construction of new apartments,' argue MIiR officials." http://warszawa.wyborcza.pl/warszawa/7,54420,23151523,urbanistyka-po-nowemu-pis-chce-aby-wojewodowie-mogli-lamac.html
-- IT WAS NOT THE EXCLUDED FROM STATE FARMS WHO BROUGHT PIS TO POWER - MICHAŁ OLSZEWSKI in GW: "It wasn't the excluded from state farms who carried PiS to power. Those who build new houses, send their children to study abroad helped them. Also people like Ms. F., a fanatic of the 'good change,' owner of a thriving publishing house and an apartment on the Mediterranean coast, who proudly informs that she does not pay contributions and does not intend to pay them." http://wyborcza.pl/magazyn/7,124059,23150450,glosuje-na-pis-bo-kraj-jest-w-ruinie-ale-zus-u-tym.html
-- ADAM STRZEMBOSZ TELLS ELIZA OLCZYK HOW HE JOINED THE MAZOWIECKI GOVERNMENT: "Tadeusz Mazowiecki invited me for a conversation and frankly told me that the Citizens' Committee demanded that I become the Minister of Justice because I have a program and know what needs to be done. However, for the Solidarity-ZSL-SD coalition to be formed, we must reach an agreement with Aleksander Bentkowski, the head of the peasant club. Meanwhile, he made the matter clear: either he would become the Minister of Justice, or there would be no coalition. That is why the Prime Minister asked me to take the position of first deputy, because thanks to this, the coalition could be formed. I had doubts, but I went to consult Wiesław Chrzanowski, whom I greatly respected. I heard from him: 'this experiment will probably fail, but if it succeeds, you will never regret not taking part in it.' I thought that there was indeed something to it, and I agreed to become deputy minister. I quickly became convinced of the pathological situations in the ministry."
-- STRZEMBOSZ ON HOW SUCHOCKA WANTED TO VERIFY JUDGES: "At my request, Krzysztof Kauba wrote a draft law on this matter, and Hanna Suchocka, who was then the Minister of Justice, warmly supported it and pushed it through the Sejm. These regulations were to be in force until 2002 because the aim was for the verification of judges not to take too long. Unfortunately, we made two mistakes - first, the only penalty we provided for was removal from the profession. Second, cases were sent to the disciplinary court individually, so it was impossible to capture the entirety of a given judge's rulings during martial law. And since those judges usually imposed penalties close to the lower limit, it was difficult to remove them from the profession for that. Moreover, Minister Suchocka, who was very involved in the verification of judges, left the ministry, and Lech Kaczyński became the minister." http://www.rp.pl/Plus-Minus/303159888-Adam-Strzembosz-Bylem-naiwny-Powinienem-spisac-umowe-z-Jaroslawem-Kaczynskim.html
-- ADAM MICHNIK ON STANISŁAW STOMMA: "Stomma's language always fascinated me – completely different from what we knew from the press at the time. He taught a different kind of Polish, as well as a different value system. And not only him, because his entire environment was extraordinary – Stefan Kisielewski, Jerzy Turowicz, Jacek Woźniakowski, Jerzy Zawieyski, Antoni Gołubiew, and Zofia Starowieyska-Morstinowa. And the younger ones, as diverse as Zbigniew Herbert or Leopold Tyrmand. These were people who, in the darkest times, managed to convey a certain authenticity of Polish culture and humanistic thinking, and who found an intellectual way to confront totalitarian communist dictatorship. http://wiez.com.pl/2018/03/16/obowiazek-chrzescijanina-w-swiecie-polityki/
