Head of the Presidential Chancellery on Foreign Policy Cooperation: 'It will depend on the government and the Prime Minister.'

Michał Olech

This [cooperation in Poland's foreign policy] will depend on whether the government, primarily Prime Minister Tusk, respects the president's prerogatives and the president's constitutional role, including participation in international relations and representing Poland abroad – stated Zbigniew Bogucki on the program ‘Pytanie dnia’ on TVP INFO.

If Donald Tusk respects the constitutional provisions – which, by the way, was discussed and reported by Minister Szefernaker after that conversation, during that brief press conference in front of the Presidential Palace – then it will be good. This means that Donald Tusk must understand that there is a constitution, and that this constitution binds both the President of the Republic of Poland and the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister has repeatedly violated this constitution – he continued.

The President was open to discussions; he spoke with many leaders of political factions, including those involved on the government side, in the ruling coalition. Unfortunately, until yesterday, Donald Tusk did not understand that he needed to talk to the President. Deputy Prime Minister Sikorski, i.e., the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, also saw no such need – that is very bad – Bogucki continued.

It is the President who today holds the freshest, strongest, and most powerful mandate from free democratic elections, and this situation has shown that for many months, this government, led by Donald Tusk, was unable to develop relations – good relations, even decent relations – with the administration in Washington. This is our strategic partner when it comes to security, energy security, but also economic development – concluded the Head of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland.
