Sejm Debates Deregulation, Wind Turbines, and Housing Price Transparency

The Sejm will resume its session at 9:00 AM with a series of topical questions. At 11:15 AM, it will hear a current information report, requested by Poland 2050, concerning ongoing investments in national energy and government actions to lower energy prices.

At 12:45 PM, the first reading of a government bill aimed at deregulating economic and administrative law and improving the principles of economic law development will commence. This project, authored by the Ministry of Development and Technology, headed by Krzysztof Paszyk of PSL, is intended, according to its proponents, to simplify the process of starting a business and its subsequent development.

At 2:15 PM, MPs will review information on Poland's participation in EU activities during July-December 2024 (when Hungary held the presidency of the Council of the European Union), along with a committee draft resolution on the matter. At 4:30 PM, the second reading of a parliamentary draft resolution commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Prussian Homage, authored by PiS, will take place. Finally, at 5:00 PM, the second reading of a government bill amending the act on monuments and heritage conservation is scheduled.

At 6:00 PM, the first reading of the government's so-called "wind turbine law" will begin. The most significant change involves the repeal of the 10H rule introduced in 2016, thereby reducing the minimum distance for wind turbines from residential buildings from 700m to 500m.

The last substantive item on the agenda, at 7:45 PM, is the first reading of a bill proposed by Poland 2050, aiming to introduce transparency in housing prices.

Sikorski in Brussels with NATO Ministers

Today, Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski embarks on a two-day visit to Brussels, where he will meet with his NATO counterparts. Topics to be discussed will include the current security situation, preparations for the NATO summit in The Hague, the NATO-Ukraine Council, and discussions with the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.

Kosiniak-Kamysz Meets Kallas

Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz will participate in an informal meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC). The arrival and doorstep of the Minister of National Defence are scheduled for 7:30 AM. A working session on EU military support for Ukraine will begin at 9:00 AM. A press conference with Kosiniak-Kamysz and Kaja Kallas is scheduled for 2:30 PM.

Trzaskowski in Świętokrzyskie, Nawrocki with AmCham Members, Mentzen in West Pomerania

Rafał Trzaskowski is visiting the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship. A rally is planned for 3:30 PM in Starachowice, followed by an open meeting with Civic Coalition candidate in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski at 5:45 PM.

PiS-backed candidate Karol Nawrocki will meet with members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Poland (AmCham) at 10:00 AM.

Konfederacja candidate Sławomir Mentzen is campaigning in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. Scheduled meetings include Świnoujście (2:30 PM), Kamień Pomorski (4:00 PM), Goleniów (5:30 PM), Police (7:00 PM), and Szczecin (8:00 PM).

Glapiński's Press Conference

A press conference with NBP President Adam Glapiński will be held at 3:00 PM. The conference will focus on the current economic situation in Poland.

– How can we connect the fact of the participation, not even of Roman Giertych himself, but of his colleague or associate from the law firm, in the questioning of Ms. Barbara [Skrzypek] with the circumstances that later unfolded, especially in a situation where the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw-Praga is currently conducting a very comprehensive investigation clarifying all these circumstances – said Adam Bodnar in the "Piasecki's Conversation" program on TVN24.

– These 8 years of operating under the Law and Justice government meant that many prosecutors had to risk everything they had, their entire education and careers, to protest, to demand standards of an independent prosecution service. And we cannot now tell these prosecutors that, okay, now you should be dealing with, I don't know, bicycle thieves in some district town – said Adam Bodnar on TVN24, when asked if he believed that a prosecutor as politically engaged as Ewa Wrzosek should handle such a politically sensitive case.

– Mrs. Prosecutor, and every prosecutor, is not independent in handling a case; they have the support of their colleagues from the district prosecution office, and I believe that with the appropriate support, all procedures will be followed – he continued.

– I truly have no influence on whether one prosecutor or another handles a given case; this is decidedly the competence of the National Public Prosecutor and, of course, the heads of individual prosecution units, and we really try hard to separate this, because it would be detrimental if I were now trying to seek out or assign prosecutors to specific cases – he went on to say.

– This is a decision that goes beyond the 20% for the EU. Trump has made a decision that affects virtually, yes, tariffs for all, for another almost 70% of countries, in addition to those 10% tariffs for everyone, and among these countries particularly "distinguished" by Donald Trump is the EU, which is significant, because we are the closest ally, and we are receiving higher tariffs than some countries in the world – stated Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz in a conversation with Bogdan Rymanowski on Radio Zet.

– This means that an escalation is beginning; I don't want to say trade war yet, an escalation involving tariffs, and these tariffs will be met with further tariffs. And either this will be stopped through negotiations and agreement, or all sides will lose, including Poland. Moreover, we are not the country most exposed to trade relations with the USA. We could get caught in the crossfire because other member states with whom we have good trade will suffer – she continued.

– In this case [of Ryszard Cyba], there were many errors, and I believe they occurred at the level of various institutions and the coordination of actions among them, as well as on a communicative level, where there was a lack of alarm that this was an important matter requiring very close scrutiny of what would happen in the context of the suspension of the sentence – said Adam Bodnar on TVN24.

– Yesterday, I specifically sent a prosecutor from the Department of Judicial Proceedings at the National Public Prosecutor's Office to Łódź to familiarize himself with the case files, and I am awaiting a comprehensive note on this matter – he continued.

– Even if there could have been substantive reasons not to appeal [the court's decision by the prosecution], the question of communication arises again. Who was informed about this […] I was not informed about it by the prosecution – he went on to say.

– “Yes” to a tax on excess, not all, excess bank profits, which could be allocated to healthcare or defense – stated Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz on Radio Zet.

– Today's discussion, and then the vote on the act concerning onshore wind power plants, will be a test of who is for Poland's energy sovereignty and who prefers to continue importing coal from Kazakhstan. Because I am not certain whether the coal from Kazakhstan is from Kazakhstan or from Russia, as de facto in this supply chain we can never have one hundred percent certainty – said Paulina Hennig-Kloska in an interview with Marcin Fijołek on Polsat News's "Graffiti".

– We are not running away from solving the problem, and we will propose all these solutions. They will concern both the clarification of the matter and personal responsibility, and this is why, among other things, these issues will be considered by Minister Ejchart – said Adam Bodnar on TVN24, referring to the Ryszard Cyba case.

– Yes [I expect personal consequences], absolutely, one should expect that, and finally these systemic changes, yes, we also need to sit down and, together with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, and the Ministry of Justice, develop solutions that will be optimal for this type of situation – he continued.

– I’m counting on the [wind turbine act’s] support from the PiS parliamentary club, because Mateusz Morawiecki’s government also adopted the 500-meter act when they were in power. Only then did MP Suski submit that paper-based blocking amendment – Paulina Hennig-Kloska said on Polsat News’s “Graffiti.”

– I'm curious how our right wing will explain that the tariffs President Trump is imposing on the European Union are to be twice as high as those on Russia – wrote Radosław Sikorski on social media.

– The proceedings are moving in two directions, meaning, in the individual direction, concerning the assessment of decisions made regarding specific individuals, and then it will be more about the responsibility of individual officers. And the second aspect is the extent to which this software could have been used on the territory of the Republic of Poland – he continued.

– Yes and no [the Left is blocking government work]. It depends on what – stated Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz on Radio Zet.

– In most matters, we are moving forward, because these issues are not heard about, as a series of various laws are being passed with government consensus. However, there are laws on which we differ. Honestly, I would say that claiming one party is blocking while others are blocking nothing is very unfair – she continued.

– I [won't attend Tusk and Trzaskowski's march] – stated Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz on Radio Zet.

– Of course, it was a deliberate provocation by the chairman, because calling someone a “sadist” must result in opposition and protest from the other side – said Paulina Hennig-Kloska on Polsat News’s “Graffiti,” referring to the parliamentary clash between Kaczyński and Giertych.

– Personally, I miss Marshal Hołownia in the plenary hall, who knows how to defuse such tensions, but undoubtedly Marshal Zgorzelski also made a very good, sober decision to take a break. Emotions subsided, and it’s good that there wasn’t some escalation, because various things could have happened – she assessed.

– I must admit, I have never seen the chairman’s fist clenched so tightly as yesterday. This also shows the difficult situation the right-wing is in, where nerves are simply fraying – she added.

– We have all the documentation prepared […] I am working on this matter with Minister Tomasz Siemoniak, with the involvement of the Prime Minister, of course, and we have also completed the commission’s roster – Adam Bodnar stated on TVN24 when asked about the progress in establishing the commission and investigating abuses of power by the previous government against activists.

– These will be individuals from academic circles, non-governmental organizations, and also people who were very experienced in monitoring what happened between 2015 and 2023. – If we want to lower energy prices, we must build renewables. Because it is evident that when we have more energy from renewables, the energy on the market is simply cheaper on that particular day – said Paulina Hennig-Kloska in “Graffiti” on Polsat News.

– As for bills for businesses, they are already nominally falling. Bilateral agreements concluded in recent months are below the statutory, formerly frozen price of PLN 693. For households, this price was frozen at a lower level, and we are awaiting the tariff review – she continued.

As she pointed out: – It is difficult to overcome 10-15 years of backlog in the energy sector in one year. Nevertheless, today the wholesale market price is around PLN 430-450 on a medium-term basis, and it is falling. However, companies always operate with a certain delay.

– The government absolutely does not want to allow this, and it is our will that these prices do not rise in the second half of the year. After the tariff review, because we have a freeze for 3 quarters, the government will make decisions about what happens next. […] There is a will to bring prices down to market levels below statutory prices – she continued.

– If necessary, we will of course continue to freeze them – she indicated.

– I believe that a serious crime has occurred here, but I will discuss this further with the prosecutor. It is a constantly applied practice to have a representative. The fact that there wasn't one stemmed from ill will, some malicious intentions extending beyond the Code of Criminal Procedure, and because they knew that the health condition of the late Barbara Skrzypek was poor, they had to consider the consequences, and this already involves very serious paragraphs, specifically articles of the Code – stated Jarosław Kaczyński in an interview with journalists.

– We were dealing with a scandalous, criminal situation here, and I hope the time will come when it is assessed as such and appropriate conclusions are drawn – he continued.

The PiS leader appeared at the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw-Praga, where he is to be questioned regarding the death of Barbara Skrzypek.

– But Giertych is a man who – I hope – will spend the rest of his life in prison. A very serious offense, Article 127, punishable by 10 years to life imprisonment. In my opinion, he is involved in this undertaking and, at the very least due to this death, should receive the highest possible sentence, which is life imprisonment – stated Jarosław Kaczyński in a conversation with journalists.

– I hope Ms. Wrzosek will end up where she belongs, meaning in state prisons, and for a very, very long time – stated Jarosław Kaczyński in a conversation with journalists.

– We must realize that President Donald Trump, in making his decisions yesterday, which he announced during his election campaign, is reacting to a certain geopolitical crisis, but also to an EU crisis. I also know the structure of the EU, and these decisions, if implemented as retaliatory tariffs, will not be good for my country, for our country, for Poland, because we are already hearing that the EU intends to accelerate agreements with Mercosur countries and we know that the EU will make its decisions solely in the interest of the largest players in the EU, France and Germany – stated Karol Nawrocki at AmCham.

– What happened yesterday is not good for the EU, for Poland. I am deeply concerned that EU retaliatory tariffs will negatively impact the prosperity of the Polish state – he continued.

– I believe we have lost opportunities as a Polish state to build EU-USA relations, by not utilizing the moment of Poland's EU presidency – stated Karol Nawrocki at AmCham.

– For the good life of Poles and the development of Polish-American relations, I am ready and will be ready as President of the Republic of Poland to directly negotiate customs issues with the USA in bilateral relations, in the interest of the Polish state. My commitment is to the Polish state and its citizens – he continued.

– Unfortunately, we lost this chance, we did not utilize Poland's presidency of the Council of the EU. I discussed this with Prime Minister Meloni, as it is she who is planning to convene such a summit. I believe we lost a chance as a Polish state to build EU-US relations by not capitalizing on the moment of Poland's presidency – stated Karol Nawrocki at AmCham.

– I am very pleased to be able to participate in today's ministerial meeting of the North Atlantic Alliance, this will be the first meeting with the participation of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and I am very curious about his vision for the alliance's development – said Radosław Sikorski in a conversation with journalists before the meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels.

– Yesterday, I was given the floor by Marshal Zgorzelski. I was granted the right to speak. Suddenly, the PiS chairman appeared without any procedure, tried to push me off the podium, and delivered an alternative speech. When he couldn't handle the fact that I didn't yield to him, suddenly PiS MPs joined in and shouted "murderer" at me? – said Roman Giertych at a press conference of the PiS Accountability Team.

– Based on the fact that a lawyer from my law firm participated in the questioning, a pleasant, gentle one, of Ms. Barbara Skrzypek? This is simply unprecedented insolence. I won't forgive this, I believe that such things cannot go without a reaction and all persons responsible for this should face firm consequences – he continued.

– I demand from the Sejm Presidium, above all, that these consequences be drawn in accordance with the Sejm regulations, because all these individuals obstructed my speech, to which I was authorized by Marshal Zgorzelski – he went on to say.

– These are unprecedented things, accusing someone of murder based on one's own fabrications and one's own fear. […] I understand Jarosław Kaczyński a little, because his legal situation is very difficult, and in my opinion, he is simply heading towards insanity. Everything indicates that […] Mr. Kaczyński wants to present himself simply as a madman who no longer controls his words – said Roman Giertych at a press conference of the PiS Accountability Team.

– What he said today regarding Nuremberg, the death penalty for me, prison for Ms. Wrzosek, all indicates that a decision has already been made in his case to opt for insanity. I don't know, due to his age, his health condition, as his defenders will likely advise him, that's how he will proceed – he continued.

– Regarding the remaining PiS MPs who gathered and shouted at me, I believe that each of them, who literally a minute before prayed to Saint John Paul II, and then goes out and accuses a person whom they know perfectly well has nothing to do with any tragic event of responsibility for it, is breaking, dear PiS members, God's commandments – said Roman Giertych at a press conference of the PiS Accountability Team.

During the conference, Katarzyna Kierzek-Koperska stated that the KO club is filing a criminal complaint regarding the possibility of offenses committed by MPs: Iwona Arent, Przemysław Czarnek, Jarosław Kaczyński, Bartosz Kownacki, Antoni Macierewicz, and Anna Krupka.

– All these individuals were recorded on the monitoring system as those who were shouting, yelling the word "murderer" – explained Kierzek-Koperska.

Later in the conference, Roman Giertych explained that the complaint is based on Article 226 of the Penal Code, which concerns the insult of a public official in connection with the performance of official duties, and that he will also consider filing a complaint under Article 212 (concerning defamation) as a private prosecution.

– According to preliminary assessments, new American tariffs may reduce Poland’s GDP by 0.4 percent, which in a cautious simplification translates to losses exceeding 10 billion zlotys. It is a painful and unpleasant blow, especially coming from our closest ally, but we will endure it. Our Polish-American friendship must also survive this test – wrote Prime Minister Donald Tusk on social media.

– Yes, I am very proud [of my lawyer's actions regarding Barbara Skrzypek's interrogation], the interrogation looked very professional, the minutes show that he asked a very professional question, received an answer, and had a very, as she reported to me, good conversation in the corridor with Ms. Barbara Skrzypek, there was no nervousness during that interrogation – Roman Giertych said at a press conference of the PiS accountability team.

– I think this nervousness emerged later, I think the prosecution will determine why and how it happened that this nervousness occurred with Ms. Barbara Skrzypek, perhaps after a conversation with Jarosław Kaczyński – he continued.

– It was a decent interrogation, the prosecutor and the stenographer behaved as they should, completely appropriately. I answered all questions concerning my contacts with Ms. Barbara Skrzypek, especially in the recent period, the last few days before her death, as well as the direct period after her death – stated Jarosław Kaczyński at a press briefing.

– Jarosław Kaczyński said today that he wants life imprisonment or the death penalty for me. I have a question for you, Jarek, will this death be preceded by torture or not, because I have a understandable curiosity in this regard – Roman Giertych said at a press conference of the PiS settlement team.

– Seriously, I believe this is part of his strategy to rebuild his image as an extremely mentally unstable person and a madman, because equating himself in this story to Nazi criminals tried at Nuremberg are the strongest possible words – he continued.

– What will you say, Jarek, when we participate in your questioning as a suspect? What will you say when you sit on the defendant's bench or when you are convicted? You must have some reserve of words, because this is exhausting itself to the end, and it seems to me that he couldn't use stronger words here anymore – he went on.

– Nothing will change this mode of reckoning that we have undertaken; we will pressure the prosecutor's office even more to speed things up. We will exert even more pressure. No such attacks, insults, threats of life imprisonment or the death penalty will change, Mr. Jarosław Kaczyński, the fact that you and your entire formation will be held accountable to the last zloty – said Roman Giertych at a press conference of the PiS Reckoning Team.

– It is worth remembering, as you observe these scenes of what I would call aggression or madness from PiS politicians, that the case which has driven them to this madness is a very serious criminal matter. And it is a matter that, in my opinion, is already in the final stage regarding the collection of evidence – said Roman Giertych at a press conference of the PiS accountability team.

– I wanted to remind you of one sentence [...] from recordings that were revealed 5 years ago [...]. There are sentences by Jarosław Kaczyński: "I am ready to testify in this court that this work was done for us, meaning for Srebrna. I will testify to that, because it is true, you have strong arguments in the form of this board resolution." And these words indicated that Jarosław Kaczyński was aware that he simply owed Mr. Birgfellner, and this debt was never repaid. And such an action, we call it fraud in the Penal Code – he continued.

– In connection with the testimony of Ms. Barbara Skrzypek, a second thread of this case has emerged [...]. I think our team will also deal with it. Namely, the thread of using Mr. Kaczyński's position to secure a loan of 300 million euros – he went on to say.

– I would like to present to you a scene where Prime Minister Donald Tusk calls the president of some state bank, PKO BP, and orders him to grant a 300 million loan to a company he owns. Imagine what you would write, what you would say, how outraged you would be by such a reality. Meanwhile, here we are dealing with practically unquestionable evidence – he added.

– What angered Jarosław Kaczyński in Barbara Skrzypek's testimony was a short fragment where she confirmed that he met with the president of Pekao S.A. regarding this loan, because it corresponds with Birgfellner's testimony and, in my opinion, constitutes sufficient evidence to charge Mr. Kaczyński with exceeding his powers under Article 231, paragraph 2 of the Penal Code, i.e., exceeding his authority, because a member of parliament, a politician, a chairman cannot use their public function to arrange a loan for their companies – he pointed out.

– This charge is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years, hence we see this agitation – he said.

– We have just filed a notification about the possibility of a crime being committed by the military prosecutor, Colonel Maksjan. This is the same prosecutor who, almost two weeks ago, charged me with first declassifying and then revealing materials incriminating Donald Tusk's government concerning the possibility of handing over almost half of our country's territory to Russian occupation, under the condition that a war would break out. These were materials that, at the time of their declassification and revelation, were of an archival nature – stated Mariusz Błaszczak at a press briefing in the Sejm.

– Colonel Maksjan may have committed a crime by using comments during a conversation with journalists after his interrogation, which, in our assessment, could have led to the disclosure of classified information, and therefore he might have broken the secrecy clause of the materials he was discussing – he continued.

– Colonel Maksjan himself is an example of a prosecutor who can serve as a model of bias; he is not impartial – emphasized the head of the PiS parliamentary club.

– The [..] gold competition for Polish families has launched. We intend to make our treasury with our gold reserves accessible to representatives of the wider public. A special jury will draw three three-person families from among those who apply, and each of these three families will go to this unknown place where we store Polish gold – said Adam Glapiński at a press conference.

– We will also organize, if there is interest, a visit to our treasury with all the reserves we possess – it's a huge amount of gold – for representatives of the media, and we will also organize such an expedition and such a tour, such social oversight, for representatives of all parliamentary clubs, if there is interest – he continued.

– Although there is a decision to maintain [interest rates], it is easy to read from our post-meeting statement that the Monetary Policy Council's (RPP) stance has fundamentally changed. When I say RPP, I mean the majority of the council – stated Adam Glapiński at a press conference.

– According to the majority of the council, this is clearly evident from the statement, it has changed significantly or radically – the NBP president continued.

– The council is shifting its position towards a more dovish stance, meaning it anticipates that the situation will evolve towards lowering interest rates – he added.

– The essence of Civic Platform is lies; they deceive Poles at every step. Today, this concerns Rafał Trzaskowski’s true views and sympathies, including supporting circles aiming to demoralize children – Jarosław Kaczyński wrote on social media.

– And the representatives of Gazeta Wyborcza threatening Paweł Szefernaker with lawsuits are proof of censorship being used to support this lie. Below, as a warning, is a photograph that absolutely must not be disseminated – the PiS chairman noted.

– Once again, some idiotic attacks have appeared concerning the salary of the President of the National Bank of Poland. This absurdity repeats itself every year. We are the only bank in the world that discloses all salaries and where the entire management, including deputy directors, submits asset declarations – said Adam Glapiński at a press conference.

– We are the most transparent of all possible financial institutions. [...] The entire pyramid of earnings and salaries at the National Bank of Poland is tied to the president's salary, as decided by the Parliament of the Republic of Poland. If the salaries of all employees are to increase, starting from drivers, security guards, etc., the president's salary must also increase. This was conceived by parliament – he continued.

– Dear Kaja [Kallas], thank you very much for being with us today, for chairing the informal meeting of the defense ministers of all European Union member states, combined with a meeting with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine and his deputy, who were here with us in Warsaw – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference.

– United in support for Ukraine, support that is necessary to achieve peace. Ukraine will achieve peace, a just peace, because only such a peace can we consider, no other should be taken into account. Ukraine will achieve peace, Europe will achieve peace only when it is strong – he continued.

– This high inflation today [...] is mainly a result of regulatory and fiscal factors. This inflation does not stem from market factors, nor from the actions of the National Bank of Poland or other banks; it is a regulatory-fiscal action, an action of the government, the state administration, and central offices that regulate various prices, electricity, gas, etc. – said Adam Glapiński at a press conference.

– The dynamics of food prices, incidentally, remain at a high level, but please remember that the VAT rate increased last year. […] Inflation is also pushed up by administered prices for cold water supply and sewage services […] the effects of raising excise duty on cigarettes and tobacco […]. With this basket, with this data from the Central Statistical Office, there isn't 5.4% inflation […] but 4.9% – he continued.

– New CSO data also changed the core inflation, which is even more important to me. It can be assessed that in the first quarter, core inflation decreased to near the upper limit of the NBP's target deviation, i.e., 3.5%. And such a level of core inflation […] it was 4.1%, now it is 3.5% – he went on to say.

– The inclusion of this new data […] along with lower global crude oil prices […] also leads to a revision of the projected inflation path for the coming quarters. […] We were supposed to have 4.8% at the end of the year […] currently, according to calculations […] it comes out to 4.2%, a significant difference. […] It will remain elevated all the time because the target is 2.5% +/- 1%, but it will be significantly lower than one might have expected, considering the earlier CSO data – he added.

– The government is not backing down from its announcements regarding the tax-free amount. There is a return to this concept of the tax-free amount and a solemn reiteration that this tax-free amount will be restored. Although there is no legal action in this regard concurrently. Naturally, this tax-free amount is a powerful blow to fiscal discipline and the restoration of some fiscal balance. We must also take into account that this will happen – stated Adam Glapiński at a press conference.

– All these initiatives for transferring weaponry, exercises, and training for Ukrainian soldiers conducted in EU countries, the entire support mission, military training conducted by the European Union de facto since the very beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, will be continued until such time as the need exists, until Ukraine needs our support – said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference.

– It is evident that the European Union, Europe, has woken up to essential action. This is a strategic document [a white paper], adopted for the first time in the history of the EU, which not only guarantees a reputable place for the arms industry in the EU's strategy – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference.

– This is not a commitment stemming from our whims. It is an existential commitment; we must be prepared for the most difficult scenarios, and we must be strong enough to prevent war. These are actions to preserve peace in Europe. These are actions to ensure we are so strong that it would never be profitable for any country to attack the European Union or NATO – he continued.

– In 2020, it was literally a 2% difference with Andrzej Duda, and this year we will win; I came here to win. Will you help? I am convinced that if we win in Starachowice, there is a chance to reclaim the entire region, to win right here, and that will carry us to victory – stated Rafał Trzaskowski in Starachowice.

– It is very important that we have a chance for a good result in places like Starachowice, and that is why I am convinced that if you help, if we all turn out in large numbers at the ballot boxes, there is a huge chance to win in Starachowice – he added.

– I also wanted to say clearly that I listened with immense concern, and in fact disbelief, to what my opponent, Mr. Karol Nawrocki, was saying about what is being prepared for us. This is because he spoke about the tariffs that Americans want to introduce on, among other things, Polish goods, with great understanding and great satisfaction that Americans want to introduce tariffs on goods from Poland, which will naturally impact our jobs – Rafał Trzaskowski stated in Starachowice.

– I couldn't believe that someone could speak in such a way about tariffs that another country is imposing on Polish goods. And at this point, one must ask – whose interest is Mr. Karol Nawrocki currently trying to represent? Because the duty of every Polish politician is, first and foremost, to look after our national Polish interest – he continued.

– Today, the President of the Republic should be a person who will fight, will fight all the time, to ensure that we speak with one voice on fundamental matters – stated Rafał Trzaskowski in Starachowice.

– You see what has been happening in recent days. I know that sometimes we want the scenes we observe to evoke certain emotions, but today is really not the time to outbid each other on who is taller and who is shorter, and to fight for access to the parliamentary podium. Today, that is completely not what it's about, dear sirs and madams, let's stop competing with such cheap arguments, and let's think about what we can do together – he continued.

– If all of Europe says we need to invest in our European industry today, it's a great opportunity for Poland to encourage everyone to strengthen our industrial capacities. We should be producing as much as possible to demonstrate the strength of the Polish economy, so that our equipment serves our troops and that this equipment is sold throughout Europe, and even around the world – stated Rafał Trzaskowski in Starachowice.

– Our response to tariffs, to trade wars, should be to support our industry, because this does not provoke conflict, but rather strengthens Poland and strengthens Europe – he added.

– When I watch Trump, I disagree, ladies and gentlemen, with what he proposes, because most often, when tariffs are increased, everyone gets hit by ricochet, and in my opinion, Americans will also be hit by ricochet. But you can see the fire in his eyes when he talks about pride, when he talks about creating new jobs, when he talks about Americans being able to manage on their own, you can see that pride, you can see that strength – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Starachowice.

– While disagreeing with his prescriptions, explaining to him, because we are constantly explaining to Americans that there should be no conflicts between us, but in my opinion, we must do exactly the same, not respond with nodding, because we have our pride, we have our strength, but we must clearly state that we care about exactly the same thing – he continued.

– If you were to listen to some PO politicians, you might actually conclude that it was PiS that introduced tariffs on Europe, not Donald Trump. We lament the fact that this is happening, but it is the effect – and this must be clearly stated – of this war that European elites, who are incapable of conversation, are waging against America today – stated Jacek Sasin on RMF FM.

– Europe today avoids serious conversations with the American administration. We need to talk, and how else is Europe supposed to cope if it doesn't find a common language with Donald Trump's administration? – he continued.

– I have enormous grievances directed here towards Donald Tusk, who today heads, one could say, heads the EU, because it is Poland that holds the EU presidency. I ask what he did in this matter to avoid what has happened, what discussions were held, what talks Tusk had with the administration, why there wasn't a Europe-America summit to discuss tariffs – stated Jacek Sasin on RMF FM.

– Donald Tusk today is truly reaping the bitter fruits of his foolish policies, which consisted of attacking Donald Trump back when he wasn't yet president – he continued.

– I ask, I pose the question, because I see a very strong connection here. What did Donald Tusk do as the leader of Poland today and, in a sense, of the EU, because I remind you that there is the presidency, to at least try to mitigate these actions by Donald Trump, was there any conversation at all, any attempt at a conversation – he emphasized.

– [Karol Nawrocki] will win these elections because it will be a referendum on Tusk’s government. The nation will reject this government of Tusk because it rates it terribly today. These are ruthless polls which today indicate that Tusk and his government are rated significantly worse after these dozen or so months – stated Jacek Sasin in RMF FM.

– Today, when I hear completely irrational proposals, the President of the Republic is there to say what is inviolable. Security is inviolable. Today, our experiences, particularly regarding the development of Polish industry and jobs, are inviolable – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski.

– But also inviolable are the achievements of the last 30-odd years, namely free university education, free healthcare, all social programs that have been introduced by successive governments, they should be inviolable, it should be clear that we will not touch them – he continued.

– It seemed to me that every candidate understood that our greatest achievement is empathy and solidarity. This, above all, must not be questioned, because we cannot try to create a Poland only for the rich, young, and healthy – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski.

– We must talk to President Trump as equals. Not like PiS, who are ready to praise everything, even if those decisions contradict our national interest, but as equals: Mr. President Trump, we are ready for cooperation, we have mega strong cards, let's eat Prince Polo together – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski.

The Civic Coalition candidate previously spoke about the role of the president as an ambassador for Polish industry, products, and entrepreneurship. – I already said in Gliwice that there are Polish companies that trade all over the world. That the president should support such companies, that when he flies somewhere, even to the other end of the world, he should take Polish entrepreneurs, Polish companies with him on the plane.

Cucumbers, Chocolates, and a Wafer
– As I was saying this, I remembered a few anecdotes I heard from my friends. […] My friend returned from Mongolia and told me that practically everywhere he went, on every shelf in every store, there were Urbinek cucumbers […]. If it's possible for such a product to be a symbol in Mongolia and be on every shelf, then it should be promoted worldwide – he said, showing a jar of cucumbers.

He then showed a chocolate wrapper. – If someone doesn't like cucumbers, maybe they like chocolates. […] The Solidarność company, established many years before our beloved “Solidarity” [trade union]. Today Americans have invested in Polish jobs, therefore, we can clearly say to President Trump: Mr. President, you talk about Greenland, but what about relations with Iceland? They eat Prince Polo there. The best possible symbol of cooperation between Poland and the United States.

– The EU is a powerful market, over 450 million consumers. And the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration will of course have a negative impact on the economy, on economic growth, on inflation – to the greatest extent, of course, in the United States. Let's be open about it: the US will bear the biggest costs associated with this decision – said Andrzej Domański on TVN24's "Fakty po Faktach" (Facts After Facts).

– Potentially, no one will benefit from a trade war – he added.

– The European Commission is responsible for trade policy. We always prioritize cooperation and dialogue. Negotiations will begin now. I hope these negotiations will be fruitful, beneficial, and that we will manage to reach an agreement with our [...] key economic partner, a key partner when it comes to our security, with the USA – said Andrzej Domański on TVN24's "Fakty po Faktach" (Facts after Facts).

– At the same time, the European Union is ready to respond if it becomes necessary – he indicated.

– What must be our absolute priority is maintaining cohesion and unity in response to the new American trade policy. We cannot be played off against each other, to put it colloquially, and allow each member state to pursue its own trade policy, its own tools. Truly, in unity lies our European strength – said Andrzej Domański on TVN24's "Fakty po Faktach" (Facts after Facts).

– I definitely join the [...] group that says: calm down. Let's talk, negotiate toughly, defend our interests, but let's not allow emotions to cause the European economy to be hit by a stronger economic slowdown – said Andrzej Domański on TVN24's “Fakty po Faktach” (Facts after Facts).

– Seeking responses in the form of tariffs or new fees is something the European Commission must consider. However, I think it would be weak from the perspective of building our common European response if countries were to indiscriminately throw themselves into saying: let's tax this good or that service – he assessed.

– Energy prices for households will not rise until the end of the year – declared Andrzej Domański on TVN24’s “Fakty po Faktach” (Facts after Facts).

He continued, stating: – Energy prices on the energy exchange are falling this year, [...] the price of energy for delivery in 2026 is around PLN 416, compared to around PLN 440 at the end of last year. So, we are seeing these drops. Today, the Deputy President of URE stated that the tariffs that energy companies should apply for should be lower, around PLN 500, in the next period.

– The need for a serious reduction in the health contribution stems from the fact that PiS drastically increased it for Polish entrepreneurs in the "Polish Deal." […] I would like to say very clearly, and I have said this many times already, that a lower health contribution will not in any way affect the NFZ (National Health Fund) budget. I have assured this and I stand by this assurance – said Andrzej Domański on TVN24's "Fakty po Faktach" (Facts After Facts).

– PLN 4.6 billion is the amount that will be transferred from the budget to the NFZ as a form of compensation for the lower health contribution for Polish entrepreneurs – he indicated.

– I disagree with what Jarosław Kaczyński says. I believe it's not only nonsensical, but likely even detrimental to PiS. PiS is a party with which my party, Konfederacja, competes. However, this isn't the first time Jarosław Kaczyński or the party's leadership has done self-harming things. It's the same as when there was that scuffle at the parliamentary gates [with Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik] – stated Krzysztof Bosak on TVN24's "Kropka nad i" (A Dot Over the i).

– We've been in Parliament for 5.5 years and haven't submitted a single bill [on abortion]. If we wanted to, we could have done it five times. – What is important to us is maintaining good, partnership relations, while at the level connected with this trade relation, the European Union currently functions in such a way that tariffs are regulated at the EU level – stated Maciej Berek in the program "Pytanie Dnia" (Question of the Day) on TVP Info.

– The European Union has made a decision, like the majority of states affected by the United States' decision, to introduce so-called retaliatory tariffs; this is unfortunately the dynamic of these processes, but political actions and talks are also constantly being undertaken to prevent this war from escalating, to move from a trade war to negotiations – he continued.

– One would want every person who talks about wanting to take responsibility for the Polish state to, however, have the interests of the Polish state as paramount, and not explain them from the perspective of other countries – stated Maciej Berek on TVP Info.

– This is a junction of frenzy and hate-based politics. I am not a Member of Parliament, but I sit on the government benches, and I must tell you that the scale of hatred, contempt, and bile that is being poured out from the other side in shouts, comments, and segments is simply unbelievable – said Maciej Berek on TVP Info.

– What has happened in the last few days is also another crossing of the line. MPs are coming to the parliamentary rostrum, shouting "murderer" at another MP. One truly needs to have no boundaries to formulate this type of statement; it's not really an accusation, it's throwing a word into the public space so that it resonates, so that it sticks to that person. These are things that have terrible consequences, it's playing on people's emotions, it's stirring up the lowest instincts – he continued.

– If there was an attack, it happened [during the PiS government's tenure] and the fact that these institutions are functioning and pretending nothing happened is a violation of the state's system. What we are trying to do and what the Minister of Justice is doing is an attempt to restore standards and the rule of law step by step – stated Maciej Berek on TVP Info.

– It's astonishing from the perspective of observing public debate, the reversal of the meaning of words, meaning that what is the restoration of the rule of law is being called an attack on the state's system, which is truly absolutely terrifying – he added.

– It will hit everyone, every country participating in this trade clash, including the United States; there is no doubt about that. If these tariffs are in force, if they are applied, there will undoubtedly be some impact on the Polish economy. The scale of this is difficult to precisely estimate, but initial estimates are emerging. The Polish Economic Institute presents them, and in the most extreme scenarios, it could be even over 10 billion zlotys, as this is calculated in relation to GDP, estimated at approximately, a maximum of 4.6% of GDP – said Maciej Berek on TVP Info.
