Friday marks the last day of the 30th session of the Sejm. A voting session is scheduled for 12:45 PM, including votes on changes to the composition of parliamentary committees.

At 1:00 PM, Prime Minister Donald Tusk will deliver an address regarding the international situation and Poland's security following the allied summit in London and the European Council meeting. The debate on this matter will last 3 hours, until 4:00 PM.

At 1:15 PM in Janikowo, Inowrocław County, a press conference will take place with the participation of Mateusz Morawiecki, Krzysztof Szczucki, and representatives of local authorities.

08:05

in Brussels:

We Must Seriously Re-arm Europe." Domański on the "Breakthrough Summit

This is good news for Poland and for Europe. Europe has finally understood that it must spend significantly more on security, that we must take greater responsibility for security in Europe, that we cannot rely so heavily on our allies. We must seriously re-arm Europe, and this naturally requires serious, large funds, hence yesterday's summit in Brussels of leaders, which I would consider a breakthrough – stated Andrzej Domański in a conversation with Marcin Fijołek on Polsat News’ “Graffiti”.

08:21

Hołownia Announces President's Visit to the Sejm:

An Important Day for Poland's Security.

It is good that President Andrzej Duda will also be present at today's Sejm session dedicated to security. A meeting with the President at my office at 12:15 PM, the Prime Minister's information at 1:00 PM, followed by a debate. This is an important day for Poland's security – wrote Marshal Szymon Hołownia on social media.

08:24

Bielan asked about Nawrocki's stance on pardoning PiS politicians:

Each such decision would have to be considered individually.

I have never discussed this topic with him privately. I know from public statements that he has always spoken in such a way that each such decision is an individual decision and he would have to consider it at the moment he was forced to make it. I cannot answer this question – stated Adam Bielan in RMF24.

08:24

Bielan:

Ukraine Should Receive Security Guarantees After Peace Talks Conclude

This is a question that is irrelevant at the moment. This is because the main powers deciding this matter, the United States, but also France and Germany, have been staunch opponents of Ukraine's entry into NATO for years – Adam Bielan told RMF24.

Ukraine should receive security guarantees after the conclusion of peace talks, because Poland and all of Europe should care about a good, honest peace agreement, meaning an agreement that Russians will not use as a so-called strategic pause, after which, after a few years, Russians will move further west – he continued.

08:24

says Bielan about Nawrocki's statement on trust in Ukraine:

It's hard to be surprised that someone who has been deceived so many times has less trust,

I think it's about his personal [Nawrocki's] experiences, specifically from contacts with his counterparts regarding the exhumation of Poles in Volhynia. We know that the Ukrainian authorities repeatedly promised breakthroughs, and later, after some press conferences and communiques, little came of it. So, it's hard to be surprised that someone who has been disappointed, or even deceived, so many times has somewhat less trust – stated Adam Bielan to RMF24.

08:25

Bielan on Allies Failing to Meet 2% GDP Defense Spending Target:

This Kind of Shock Therapy from the US is Necessary.

Germany continues to violate Article 3, it violates its commitments. I believe that this kind of shock therapy from the American side is simply necessary, because Europe today is largely defenseless without the help of the United States – Adam Bielan told RMF24.

08:26

"Completely Against Poland's State Interest." Bielan Accuses Tusk of "Diminishing Poland's Standing"

Due to the fact that we have long anticipated this kind of dispute [between the EU and the USA], which requires dialogue, for many months President Andrzej Duda proposed that a special European Union-United States summit should take place in Warsaw within the framework of Poland's presidency – Adam Bielan told RMF24.

Such a summit is clearly very needed today. Unfortunately, Donald Tusk, completely against Poland's state interest and against the interests of the European Union, refused to organize such a summit, essentially canceling it. Today, the Italians are working on such a summit; it is Giorgia Meloni who wants to organize such a meeting in Rome. I don't need to explain that this diminishes our standing, because the host always has certain rights and can push their agenda, their discussion plan – he continued.

08:36

Wipler on Mentzen’s Words About Ukraine:

This Isn’t Anti-Ukrainian Language, It’s Pro-Polish,

– This isn’t anti-Ukrainian language, it’s pro-Polish language, describing how we are politically treated by Volodymyr Zelenskyy and by Ukrainian politicians – said Przemysław Wipler in the program “Bez uników” (No Evasions) on PR3, when asked about Sławomir Mentzen’s statement that Poles are not treated by Ukrainians as partners, but like “suckers.”

– We have been saying what we are saying now for years. We were the first and the only ones, and we are consistent. […] Even before Trump had any statements in this regard, we were calling for it, at the moment when Poland handed over a huge part of its armament and ammunition to Ukraine […], we said: fine, we should, because it is in our interest, but on this occasion, we should also take care of our national interest – he continued.

08:37

Nawrocki Accuses the Government of Lacking the Will to Help Poles:

Let's Show Them a Red Card This Spring.

– Unfortunately, Poles will not pay less for food, electricity, and gas in the near future. Rafał Trzaskowski's party rejected the legislative proposals I initiated in the Sejm to lower taxes in these three areas, which are so important to millions of Poles – said Karol Nawrocki in a recording published by his campaign team.

– This team is not only lazy, but also unwilling to help Poles struggling with high prices. This spring, let's collectively show them a red card – emphasized the candidate supported by PiS.

08:45

Domański:

Defense spending excluded from the excessive deficit procedure should have a reference point in 2021 or 2022

We have been saying very clearly from the very beginning that countries that quickly understood the serious situation Europe found itself in and that very quickly made the decision to increase their spending should be the main beneficiaries of these changes. That is why we want this moment, this reference point for the increase in defense expenditure, to be as soon as possible, perhaps 2021 or 2022 – stated Andrzej Domański in "Graffiti" on Polsat News.

Secondly, for the method, or rather the definition of what constitutes defense expenditure, to be as broad as possible, because it is something of an absurdity that at the moment we buy a tank, we can include it in our defense expenditure, but the salaries of soldiers who are fighting or being trained have until now not been includable in these defense expenditures – he continued.

08:48

Wipler:

Trzaskowski is Starting to Speak the Language of Konfederacja – We've Drafted a Bill and We're Saying 'Let's See'

– As soon as [Rafał Trzaskowski] made that proposal [regarding limiting the 800+ benefit to only working Ukrainians], Konfederacja immediately drafted a bill to implement it and submitted it to the Sejm. We are waiting for the next few weeks for it to be passed – Przemysław Wipler said on the PR3 program 'Bez uników'.

It's an election campaign, Rafał Trzaskowski is starting to speak the language of Konfederacja, repeating our demands, so if he's repeating them out loud, we're saying 'let's see' and submitting a bill to the Sejm – he stated.

08:55

"Energy shields exist." Domański on PiS’s "purely political move"

This is a purely political move on the part of PiS. Firstly, these energy shields, they do exist, which PiS MPs falsely claimed yesterday. They were maintained by our government. When it comes to other taxes, we obviously need a source of funding for increasing expenditures, for example, on defense or healthcare. We need a tax base in order to finance the essential expenses of our state – stated Andrzej Domański on Polsat News’s “Graffiti”.

09:01

Wipler:

I Understand the Reasons Behind Trump's Moves That Could Negatively Impact the Situation in Ukraine

– I don’t like the fact that we are in such a difficult situation, because it is a difficult situation for Poland as well, it is not good for Poland. But I perfectly understand the reasons why Donald Trump is making these kinds of gestures, moves, that could have a very serious and negative impact on the development of the military situation in Ukraine – said Przemysław Wipler in the program “Bez uników” (No Evasions) on PR3.

In his opinion: – The reasons are the economic situation in the USA, the budgetary situation. Last year, the USA spent 1,200,000,000,000 [dollars], which is more than Poland's entire GDP, on interest payments for public debt, and nine hundred and several billion dollars, meaning over 200 billion less, on the army. At the same time, they spend more on their army than all NATO countries combined.

– They say: listen, we are in a very difficult economic situation, we are paying huge interest on our debt […] and it is suffocating and killing us right now. And among other things, we cannot afford to maintain and exert military effort at the level of previous years. […] You must pay more for this, contribute more, you must give us a chance to recover economically – he continued.

09:05

Matecki Detained by ABW

Today (Friday) at 8:40 AM in Warsaw, officers of the Internal Security Agency (ABW), acting on the prosecutor's orders, detained Member of Parliament Dariusz Matecki. After the completion of procedures, the detained individual will be transported to the prosecutor's office – informed Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the Minister of the Interior and Administration and coordinator of the special services.

09:07

Domański:

I Won't Be Intimidated by PiS

I won't be intimidated by PiS. I stand guard over public finances; by taking on the position of Minister of Finance, I have taken on this responsibility. The National Electoral Commission (PKW) has prepared a resolution that is internally contradictory – stated Andrzej Domański on Polsat News' "Graffiti".

09:19

Wipler Cites the Budapest Memorandum:

The USA is Not a Reliable Ally.

– Is America a reliable ally? America hasn't been for 11 years and shouldn't be a reliable ally, if we can honestly and firmly tell ourselves that. Because America was one of the four [three – ed.] countries that guaranteed Ukraine's territorial integrity and defense in case of aggression, when Ukraine was dismantling its nuclear arsenal in the early 90s – said Przemysław Wipler on the PR3 program “Bez uników” (Without Evasion).

– It's understandable that Russia, like a wolf telling sheep it won't touch them, is behaving this way. But Great Britain and the USA have lost face, they have lost credibility. They showed what their guarantees are worth 11 years ago – he pointed out.

09:33

Wipler:

I'm Enthusiastically Rooting for Braun and Zandberg to Overtake Hołownia

– I'm enthusiastically rooting for Grzegorz Braun to overtake Szymon Hołownia, even though he is our obvious competitor. And for Adrian Zandberg to overtake him as well – said Przemysław Wipler in the program „Bez uników” (Without Evasions) on PR3.

– Such small nuances are also important, and for me, a situation where Szymon Hołownia is in the second league peloton and doesn't finish first in that peloton will also provide some small joy and flavor. Because he wasted a great deal of hope from voters that he took from us, Konfederacja, several months ago – he stated.

10:01

Wipler:

Konfederacja Wants to Create the Equivalent of What Musk is Doing in the US – DOGE

– I envision a coalition with practically all political forces in Poland, except for the left, but based on very clear and transparent foundations and tasks. That is the most important thing: what will we do if we become members of the government? And we are currently working on this, agreeing on our position in this regard – said Przemysław Wipler on the program “Bez uników” (No Evasions) on PR3.

– We have a substantive working group where we are preparing our negotiation position for talks on forming a government after the elections, which we believe may take place in six months – he indicated.

– For example, we want to create the equivalent of what Musk is doing in the United States, namely DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency. We call this project “Effective State” – which expenses we want to cut and why – he continued, citing county labor offices or the Export Credit Insurance Corporation as examples.

10:31

Hołownia Announces Redirecting KPO Funds to Defense Industry; Amount Revealed

Thanks to the government's work, thanks to the cooperation of Minister Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, Deputy Prime Minister, and Prime Minister Tusk, we are able to allocate an amount of 30 billion zlotys from these funds, before new European funds and new European commitments are established, from those that already exist, namely the Resilience Fund, this KPO. We will create a Security and Defence Fund, which will be a fund that will support very specific projects in Poland that increase Poland's security – stated Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.

This will be additional money for the defense industry, it will be additional money for civil defense, for building shelters. It will be additional money for so-called research and development, meaning research and studies in the area of military technologies. Finally, it will be dual-use technologies, i.e., those that can be used in wartime and peacetime – he continued.

10:36

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

Poland is One of NATO's Best Allies, Fulfilling All Commitments and Expecting the Same in Return

The actions we are taking today, the multiplied defense budget – let me remind you again, this budget adopted for this year, I thank parliament for voting for it at 186 billion, 4.7% of GDP, a 60% larger budget than in 2023 and 2.5 times larger than in 2022 – this is the scale of Poland's commitment to allied defense, deterrence policy, and when necessary, to defense – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference.

Poland is one of NATO's best allies, a reliable partner, and has committed to fulfilling all provisions of the North Atlantic Treaty and expects the same in return. It is providing evidence, not of two percent, but of almost 5%, thus many times exceeding the commitments arising from agreements made 10 years ago – he continued.

10:40

Hołownia attacks Konfederacja:

I wonder if they would be talking about how to lift sanctions against Russia if they were responsible for Poland's security.

I don’t want to strain your imagination too much here, but imagine, if you can, that in a few years, Mr. Mentzen, Mr. Berkowicz, Mr. Fritz are standing here at this conference, and they are responsible for the security of the Republic of Poland – said Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.

I wonder if they will tell you about these kinds of solutions then, or will they rather tell you about how to lift sanctions against Russia, or will they rather tell you about how to arrange everything just to keep things quiet and move on. Are we facing a politics of fear, or are we facing a politics of courage and building Poland’s strength and firmly rooting it in the West? – he added.

11:21

Hołownia on Persuading Duda on the Incidental Act:

It's in the President's Interest to Harmoniously Transfer Power.

Of course, I will try. I have always stated and still maintain that one of the most important tasks of a person holding public office is to ensure the continuity of power. This is a responsibility, it is not our private principality, it is a relay race, and it must be in the interest of the President of the Republic to ensure that this presidential power, the supreme command of the armed forces, is transferred in the most harmonious way possible – stated Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.

11:23

Kosiniak-Kamysz on €800 Billion from the EU for Defence:

We Must Have an Industry That Can Absorb This Money.

If we have an industry capable of absorbing this money, we will be able to utilize and, to use the best word, harness a very large part of it, but industry must undertake a huge task. It must invest, it must increase its production capacities. Ammunition, drones, artificial intelligence, and those classic products Poland prides itself on: the 'Piorun', 'Krab', 'Borsuk' – because all of this is dragging on – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference.

The defense industry, the PGZ Group, which has great potential today, should seize this immense opportunity offered by European funds. As much of it as possible needs to be channeled to Poland, to Polish companies – he continued.

11:25

Kosiniak-Kamysz hits out at PiS:

I am guided by Poland's interest, I do not break contracts like our predecessors.

It’s good that there is wise politics and responsible people who do not let emotions towards their predecessors dictate their actions, as happened in Poland’s history, for example, with the Caracal helicopter contract. That was just the successors’ anger at their predecessors, not a rational decision – said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference.

We don't have anything like that, I don't have anything like that. I am guided solely by Poland's interest, because maintaining contracts and deliveries, rather than eternal contract-breaking like our predecessors, is the strategy for Poland – he added.

12:54

Błaszczak on Matecki's Arrest:

We Witnessed a Putin-Style Show.

We witnessed one big show in the Russian style, in the Putin style, in the Lukashenka style. This is the style in which the coalition of December 13 and the services subordinate to Donald Tusk operate. Of course, it's about the fact that we are dealing with lawlessness, it's about putting opposition MPs in prison. It's about reprehensibly depriving the opposition of the ability to block legislative proposals presented by those who rule Poland, thus reducing the number of opposition MPs in the Polish Sejm, in violation of all applicable Polish legal regulations – stated Mariusz Błaszczak at a press conference in the Sejm.

12:54

Ziobro Attacks Bodnar Over Prosecutor Ślepokura:

If He Had Any Honor, He Would Remove This Civic Platform Politician in a Prosecutor’s Robe.

This is essentially a Civic Platform politician in a prosecutor’s robe, and according to the current law on the prosecution service, if the Prosecutor General had a bit of honor and dignity, and respected the law he so often and eagerly refers to, he would then remove Prosecutor Ślepokura and entrust the case to one of the many thousands of prosecutors who could handle it – stated Zbigniew Ziobro at a press conference in the Sejm.

13:01

Duda on Relations with Tusk Regarding International Policy:

I Have an Internal Feeling That We Are Working Together Here.

I have an internal feeling that we are working together here. The Prime Minister operates in European spheres, and I – in Euro-Atlantic spheres. As you know, I have been to the USA twice recently, and to Brussels yesterday. We talk, we are in constant contact, and in consultation with our allies, we take care of Polish matters. This is an extremely important message that I have been conveying from the very beginning – stated President Andrzej Duda in the Sejm.

This is a great challenge, there is no doubt about it, regardless of how the matters of Russian aggression in Ukraine unfold, or whether peace can be achieved, primarily through the efforts of President Trump, and thus the USA. For us, above all, the most important thing is that this peace is lasting and stable – he continued.

13:02

Duda:

I'm glad the years of de facto dismantling the Polish army are behind us

I am glad that we are pursuing a consistent policy of strengthening our security, that we are responsibly spending ever larger sums of money on our defense, on the modernization of the Polish Armed Forces, and that the years of de facto dismantling the Polish army are behind us. Unfortunately, that was the case when military units were liquidated and systematic purchases of new equipment were not carried out – stated President Andrzej Duda in the Sejm.

13:04

Duda Proposes Constitutional Amendment on Defense Spending

Leveraging the current political consensus, I believe this must be legally cemented. Therefore, I have decided to prepare and today submit to the Speaker of the Sejm an amendment to the Constitution, which enshrines the expenditure of 4% of GDP on defense as a constitutional obligation of at least 4% annually in Poland – stated President Andrzej Duda in the Sejm.

13:11

Tusk in the Sejm:

We Cannot Be Offended by Reality.

We are dealing with a deep correction in American policy in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war. We cannot be offended by reality. Every state, especially a superpower like the USA, has the right and obligation to shape its foreign policy and strategy. But every state, including Poland, especially a state that belongs in this place on earth, has the right and obligation to very reliably and precisely assess what lies in our interest, in the interest of our security, and what can create a problem – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm.

13:13

Tusk on the Need to Maintain Ties with the USA:

It's Undisputed.

Poland is not changing its opinion on the need, the absolutely fundamental need to maintain the closest possible ties with the USA and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. This is entirely undisputed, and at the same time, we must see what is happening right now – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm.

13:14

Tusk on Poland and Ukraine’s More Difficult Situation:

We Must Cope With This Fact.

Today, the situation of Poland and Ukraine is primarily more difficult than a few months ago, and we must cope with this fact. And this in no way undermines our trust in the durability and necessity of maintaining the most enduring transatlantic relations possible – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm.

13:14

Tusk:

For Decades, There Has Been a Consensus on Matters Fundamental to Poland's Security

Yes, we have many reasons to be very focused, concentrated today, so that we speak about the matter of Poland's security, about the matter of war and peace today and in the near future with concentration and without instrumentalizing it in internal political disputes – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a statement in the Sejm.

This is very important because it is one of our strengths. Regardless of the emotions that often stir the parliamentary hall or all of us during election campaigns, one thing is beyond doubt: on matters fundamental to the security of the Republic, there has been a consensus in Poland for many years, indeed for decades – he continued.

13:16

Tusk on Hope for Hard Guarantees for Ukraine:

Less Likely Today.

The hope that Ukraine will receive hard security guarantees in the near future, with a physical US presence to back those guarantees, seems less likely today, to put it mildly, than before – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm.

13:27

Tusk on the Difficult Polish-Ukrainian Past:

It All Became Meaningless When We Realized This War Was Also About Our Future.

Just like all Polish women and men, everyone felt it from the first day of the full-scale war, whether one likes Ukrainians or not, whether one evaluates our relations with the past in one way or another. After all, all of that became meaningless when we understood not only the need for solidarity when a brutal empire attacked our weaker neighbor, but somewhere deep in our consciousness, and sometimes in our subconscious, everyone in Poland without exception knew that this war there was also a war about our future and our security – said Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a statement in the Sejm.

13:27

Tusk on Potential Supplementation of Defense Funds from European Sources:

We Will Select Very Carefully.

If there is a need, in our judgment, to supplement funds for defense, for security, for the military industry from structural, European funds, then we will make such a decision. But we will select very carefully here – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm.

13:30

Tusk on Potential Decisions Made Over Ukraine's Head:

The Concern is Greater Today Than Before.

This is the Polish position – nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. Today, this concern that perhaps some binding decisions might be made over Ukraine's head, decisions pertaining strictly to Ukraine, this concern is greater today than before; you know this as well as I do – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm.

13:37

Tusk on Sending Troops to Ukraine:

No Such Expectations.

There are no such expectations. Our decision from the beginning was clear, and this was also a consensus here in Poland. Poland has engaged in helping Ukraine in various ways, in an extremely intensive manner. We will play a key role one way or another, regardless of how the negotiations end, or what the US decides regarding some form of guarantees for Ukraine – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm.

13:37

Tusk on Peace Talks:

Europe's Negotiating Position Could Be More Difficult.

It is an illusion that the Russians and Americans are waiting with open arms for Europe, in one form or another, to sit down at the negotiating table. It cannot be ruled out that due to American interests being defined in a particular way in relation to Russia, following this announced reset, Europe's position will be more difficult. However, we must work together here, and all of Europe is ready to work together to explain and persuade our greatest partners, including the United States, how important it is from the perspective of future peace and stability for Europe to be involved in the peace process in Ukraine – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a statement in the Sejm.

13:40

Tusk:

Russia Will Be Powerless Against a United Europe When We Unite Our Efforts for Wise Armament

Russia will be powerless against a united Europe when we unite our efforts for wise armament. And this is the only method to protect Europe and Poland from a hot confrontation with Russia in the long term – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm.

13:43

Tusk on intelligence regarding Russia:

Within 3-4 years, be ready for a full-scale operation against someone significantly larger.

Our partners, my colleagues and fellow prime ministers and presidents from the European Council, also shared information yesterday, for example, intelligence from their respective countries. Ukraine also provided analytical information. There is no doubt that Russia is currently investing and acquiring mobilization capabilities on a scale that indicates its interest in being ready within 3-4 years for a full-scale operation not against Ukraine, but against someone significantly larger – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm.

13:47

Tusk:

You Wouldn't Want to Be in Orban's Shoes Yesterday

You wouldn't want to have been in Victor Orban's shoes yesterday, especially I'm speaking to you, after the Swedes, Danes, French, everyone without exception, the Slovak was significantly silent, but in the end voted with us, at the time when we were discussing the future of Ukraine – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm.

13:47

"I hope it was a slip of the tongue." Tusk reacts to MP Pamuła's words about "dictator Zelensky"

The correction of American policy absolutely forces us to take more active steps. Not only for this reason, and I think we agree here too, even if I sometimes hear from some second-tier politicians that "Zelensky and Tusk are dictators, and Putin is okay and you can't speak ill of him", but I hope it was perhaps a slip of the tongue. One of the MPs, Mrs. Pamuła, but I'm not here to abuse statements which could only be considered either politically extremely irresponsible, or even worse, simply a political mistake – Prime Minister Donald Tusk said during a statement in the Sejm.

13:49

Tusk Announces Visit to Turkey

Next week I will be in Turkey. I will be discussing greater involvement from Turkey, everything indicates that Turkey is ready for this, for the stabilization of the situation in the region – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm.

13:54

Tusk on Training Adult Men:

We Are Talking About the Need for a Half-Million-Strong Army in Poland.

We are already talking today about the need for a half-million-strong army in Poland, of course, including reservists. When we look at the numbers, on the real front of the conflict, there are currently 800,000 Ukrainians capable of fighting, and a million one within reach, and one million three hundred actively in Russia at the moment with a much larger reserve. It seems that if we organize this wisely, and I am discussing this with the Minister of National Defence, we will have to use several methods of operation. These include reservists, but there will also be intensive training, which should allow those who do not join the army to become fully qualified and valuable soldiers in the event of a conflict – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm.

We will strive to have a model ready by the end of this year so that every adult man in Poland is trained in case of war, so that this reserve is truly comparable and adequate to potential threats – he added.

13:56

Tusk:

I will recommend Poland's withdrawal from the Ottawa and possibly Dublin conventions

I have asked the Minister of National Defence to present an opinion, and I will recommend a positive opinion for Poland to withdraw from the Ottawa and possibly the Dublin conventions – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm.

13:57

Duda Tweets and Comments on Tusk's Speech:

I Appeal to Adopt This Project Immediately.

I note with satisfaction that Prime Minister Donald Tusk declared in the Sejm his willingness to cooperate on security matters. Yes, agreement on security matters is necessary – wrote President Andrzej Duda on social media.

The best test of the intentions of all political forces is my draft amendment to the Constitution, guaranteeing a minimum defense spending of 4 percent of GDP. I appeal to adopt this project immediately – he emphasized.

13:59

Tusk on Potential Comparison:

500 Million Europeans Begging 300 Million Americans to Protect Us from 140 Million Russians.

Ladies and gentlemen, I know these numbers might seem almost unbelievable, let me repeat it once more, something so striking, but it is true that 500 million Europeans are begging 300 million Americans to protect us from 140 million Russians who, for 3 years, have been unable to cope with 40 million Ukrainians. There is no reason for Europe as a whole to have any complexes when it comes to real potential – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a statement in the Sejm.

14:02

Duda on Tusk’s Speech:

I’m Glad It Was Non-Confrontational.

We are maintaining this unity when it comes to security issues. I am glad the speech was non-confrontational. I hope it remains so until the end, and I am also glad that the Prime Minister speaks about the certainty of the necessity to maintain defense spending at a very high level in the coming years – stated President Andrzej Duda at a press briefing in the Sejm.

14:05

‘You Took One Word from General Kellogg’s Statement.’ Duda Asked About Reset with Russia

You took one word from General Kellogg’s statement. Did you hear the general’s entire statement? Then I am very happy [that you did], so you probably know what General Kellogg said – stated President Andrzej Duda at a press briefing in the Sejm.

14:10

Tusk on Duda’s Proposal Regarding Constitutional Amendments:

I See No Reason to Argue or Quarrel, but We Will Calmly Analyze It.

Every idea that stabilizes the financing system for Poland’s defense, its arms industry, and our capabilities in the event of difficult times is a good one. The truth is that we are spending 5% and I don't foresee a decrease in defense spending in the near future, but whether to enshrine it in the Constitution in the long term – if so, we would have to consider it, as there are other provisions in the Constitution regarding deficit and spending caps, so this would require very serious analysis. However, regarding the intention for Poland to permanently be among the states that know how to take care of their security, I see no reason to argue or quarrel about it, but we will calmly analyze it in terms of its practical significance – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm.

14:12

Tusk:

If I Were Proposing a Return to Compulsory National Service, I Would Say So

If I were proposing it, which wouldn't be so foolish, it's not as if it's black and white, but if I were proposing a return to basic, compulsory national service, I would say so. We have several models; one of the most appreciated is the Swiss model. It's not compulsory, but there are incentives that lead men to decide on annual training – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm.

"I'd Prefer 5%": Kaczyński on Duda's Proposal for Constitutional Amendment

I would prefer 5% [of GDP in the Constitution]. I'm not raising the stakes, I'm saying what I think about it – stated Jarosław Kaczyński in a conversation with journalists in the Sejm.

This is a good decision [regarding military training], but on one condition – that all social pedagogy changes, meaning that instead of the pedagogy rightly described by Mr. Ociepa as a pedagogy of cowardice, we will have a return to the knightly ethos and to the idea that men should also be soldiers – he continued.

14:44

Kaczyński Comments on Tusk's Speech:

He Says Differently Than He Did Before.

Today we see that Tusk is speaking differently than he did and acted before. It's good that he's speaking, now let him start acting. But these words cannot be assessed without considering the contexts – Jarosław Kaczyński wrote on social media.

The historical context, the pro-Russian reset policy, and attacking those who warned about Russia. And also the cultural context, which can be briefly described as actions aimed at eradicating the patriotic knightly ethos – he noted.

And therefore, for this formation, it is difficult, if not impossible, to conduct effective security policy. And since presidential elections were mentioned: there is one candidate who can meet these requirements, and that is Karol Nawrocki – he added.

15:02

Hołownia comments on the President’s idea to amend the constitution:

The most important thing is that we effectively do what we are already doing.

As you know, we are already exceeding that 4% limit today. We are spending 4.7%, and probably nothing will change in this regard in the coming years. However, as I said, amending the constitution is a very serious matter, so we heard about this proposal from the President today. We will consider whether this requires a constitutional amendment, or perhaps it could be done through an appropriate act that would obligate us to this level of expenditure – stated Szymon Hołownia in a conversation with journalists.

In my opinion, the most important thing today is not to commit to what we are already doing, but to do what we are already doing effectively – he added.

15:03

Hołownia:

There's No Time to Wait, We Must Arm Ourselves, and We Must Do It Together

The cards have been dealt in such a way that, in essence, our role, Poland's role, is solely to inform our European partners of the factual situation. There is truly no longer time to wait; we must arm ourselves today, and we must arm ourselves together. This readiness of the European Union to incur new debt, as was the case with the KPO after COVID, is the right reaction to the disaster that is the war in Ukraine – said Szymon Hołownia in a conversation with journalists.

Ociepa to Tusk: You're 17 Years Late with Your Diagnoses on Russia

– Mr. Prime Minister, you are at least 17 years late with your diagnoses concerning the security situation of the Republic, dating back to the Russian aggression against Georgia and the initiatives of the late President Lech Kaczyński, which were intended to build Western unity against Russia’s imperial ambitions – said Marcin Ociepa in the Sejm.

– Back then, we only heard words from your political milieu: what president, such an attack. That’s all you had to say when Lech Kaczyński warned us all about the consequences of an imperial Russia – added the PiS MP.

15:16

Ociepa:

Today, President Duda is the guarantor of security and national unity. Tomorrow, it will be Nawrocki.

– You laughed – that's the truth – four years ago, when Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Mariusz Błaszczak made the same diagnoses from the same podium regarding threats from Russia. Four years – that's how long it took you to now applaud the same words, just from the lips of your leader – said Marcin Ociepa in the Sejm.

As he stated: – No, Mr. Prime Minister – unity is not a goal in itself. That goal is the security of Polish women and men, and it is around this that we can unite, not around your mistakes.

– We must unite around the guarantor of security and national unity. Today, this is President Andrzej Duda, and tomorrow it will be Dr. Karol Nawrocki – he emphasized.

15:31

Bosak:

The Prime Minister Should Be in the Chamber During the Debate; This is a Frivolous Situation

I believe the Prime Minister should be here with us in the chamber, not leave immediately after his speech to the media and not return. This is a frivolous situation. It shows that the Prime Minister does not consider the current situation to be a crisis, it shows that this is a propaganda situation in which the voices of the opposition, of all clubs, do not matter – stated Krzysztof Bosak in the Sejm.

– I am very glad that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and, above all, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence are present. I am glad that they will hear what we have to say – he added.

15:32

Bosak:

We Expected an Updated Defense Doctrine, the Prime Minister's Speech Was Vague and Sleep-Inducing

We expected to hear something here that we could call an updated Polish defense doctrine. Nothing of the sort emerged. The Prime Minister's speech was sleep-inducing, it was unspecific, it was a game of buying time, to lull the room and to vaguely, evasively talk about the summits – said Krzysztof Bosak in the Sejm.

17:33

Sikorski’s message to the opposition:

I hope you stop speaking ill of the EU at every turn.

The aggressor and threat to European peace, to Poland’s security, is Putin. Agreed? Thirdly, I hope we can agree that Europe and our neighborhood are better when an independent, self-governing, democratic, and Western-oriented Ukraine functions within it. Agreed? Since we agree, I would have a request for today’s opposition, because the money we spend on the military, when I was Minister of National Defence in Jarosław Kaczyński’s government, if my memory serves me correctly, my budget was then PLN 24 billion. Today it’s PLN 186 billion – stated Radosław Sikorski in the Sejm.

I would like to convince today’s opposition that Poland has two insurance policies. And that this prosperity, thanks to which we can arm ourselves in an unprecedented way, also depends on our strong, influential membership in the EU. There is no contradiction between being an influential member of the EU and a strong pillar of NATO. Therefore, I hope you will stop speaking ill of the EU at every turn, about reducing the EU to a free trade zone – he continued.

17:40

Sikorski:

We Need Thousands of Drones As Soon As Possible, and This Will Happen

Without these drones, [Ukraine] would have already lost the war. We also indispensably need thousands of drones as soon as possible, and this will happen – stated Radosław Sikorski in the Sejm.

17:59

Kosiniak-Kamysz on Tusk's Announcement:

Universal Training Is Not a Return to Conscripted Military Service.

– We [the government] must take care of this and encourage people to join the army, hence the proposal put forward today by the Prime Minister regarding universal training. This is not a return to basic, compulsory military service. It is an opportunity, but also a very tangible incentive, for training, for both women and men – said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in the Sejm.

– Of course, there are more men in the Polish army and more will likely take advantage of this offer, but it will be possible for anyone who is fit and capable of such training. It will not hinder their professional or family ambitions, and there must be adequate compensation for the time spent on training – he continued.

– This is the encouragement we need, because demographic changes are not favorable to us. Regardless of who governs, these changes will affect them. Therefore, the more people we train now, while they are still available, the safer we will be – he indicated.

18:09

Budka Questions Confederation Candidate on Matecki Vote:

Where Were You, Mr. Mentzen?

– Imagine what happened yesterday – the one who presents himself as the candidate of hope, deserted the vote in the Sejm regarding Matecki's immunity. Yes, Mr. Mentzen, where were you when yesterday the Sejm allowed someone who has caused so much harm to stand before the court? – said Borys Budka in Mikołów, before Rafał Trzaskowski's speech.

– Mentzen wasn't there, he didn't vote. And all present Confederation MPs defended him, they didn't want Matecki to stand before the court. And these elections will also be about this, about elementary decency – he continued.

18:13

Budka Appeals to the Youth:

Konfederacja = PiS, Mentzen = Nawrocki

– These elections will be about whether the Presidential Palace will house either Kaczyński's appointee or Mentzen, who collaborates with Kaczyński while pretending to be a free man – said Borys Budka in Mikołów, before Rafał Trzaskowski's speech.

– Remember this, especially the young people, that today PiS = Konfederacja, Konfederacja = PiS. And Nawrocki = Mentzen, Mentzen = Nawrocki. There is no other choice for Poland – only Rafał Trzaskowski – he emphasized.

18:20

Trzaskowski:

Today, the priority is to calm down – we are safe

– Are you thinking about security? [crowd answers 'yes' - ed.] Do you feel safe? [crowd answers 'no' - ed.] You see, I often hear such answers in Poland. However, I believe that today the priority is to calm down: we are safe – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Mikołów.

– We have done our job. At a time when others were not doing this job, we in Poland did it and secured both our border […], but also secured ourselves for any eventuality. Poland is a country that spends the most in relation to its GDP on our army, on our security. Today, we are also doing absolutely everything to strengthen the alliances we are part of, primarily NATO, but also the EU – he assured.

18:24

Trzaskowski:

If I Became President, We Would Definitely Be Safe

– I assure you that we are safe. And most importantly: that if I became President of the Republic of Poland, if you trust me, we would definitely be safe – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Mikołów.

18:31

Trzaskowski on Strengthening Poland's Security:

I Have a Plan of Action.

– These are indeed difficult times, and I believe that, like me, you are all watching what is happening in the world. You have seen what happened in Washington, in the White House, you have observed all those events. Emotions are stirring within us – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Mikołów.

– But I will tell you one thing: today, the most important matter is for the President of the Republic of Poland, a candidate for President of the Republic of Poland, not to fuel emotions, but above all to focus on a plan of action. [...] Today, the most important thing is to calm down and have a plan of action. And I assure you that I have such a plan, that we all have this plan, to strengthen Poland's security – he declared.

18:41

Trzaskowski:

Those Undermining Ukraine's European Aspirations Harm Poland's Interests

– Today, we need unity when it comes to security. Today, all those who gamble with Poland's security are behaving completely irresponsibly. Today, all those who are unable to speak with one voice, like President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Donald Tusk, but try to say something entirely different, undermining Ukraine's European aspirations, are harming Poland's interests – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Mikołów.

18:50

Trzaskowski on Poland’s Strength:

We Lead the EU, Everyone Listens to Us.

– Today we are strong, we lead the European Union, both formally and in reality. Everyone listens to us because we have made this incredible effort, and Polish women and men have contributed to Poland being safe – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Mikołów.

18:59

Trzaskowski:

We are helping Ukraine because we don't want Russian tanks on the Polish border

– Today it is absolutely crucial to exert pressure on the aggressor, not the victim of aggression. To speak in a loud voice that Putin is responsible for the war [...], that Russia invaded Ukraine. [...] Truth is incredibly important today. That is why I will speak clearly about it – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Mikołów.

I will also speak clearly about the fact that Ukraine and Ukrainians are fighting for our freedom, and it is in our national interest to help them militarily. Because we do not want Russian tanks all along the Polish border – he indicated.

19:03

Trzaskowski on Strengthening Security:

Taxes Shouldn’t Rise, But Money Should Be Used Wisely.

– The government doesn't have its own money. Money comes from citizens. We often hear calls to abolish taxes completely. I am also in favor of low taxes; I have repeatedly said that if I were to become president, I would not agree to taxes being raised. […] But thanks to these taxes, we are able to support our army today, we are able to take care of security. […] This is what money is needed for – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Mikołów.

– Today requires responsibility. Today, we must clearly state that money from our taxes is needed precisely to strengthen our security. These taxes shouldn’t rise, but the money should be used sensibly to strengthen our security – he emphasized.

19:21

Trzaskowski on Nawrocki:

Waving Dumbbells Might Not Impress Trump.

– The President of France was there, and he knew how to talk to Trump. Smiling, without causing any controversy, he was able to correct him, he was able to behave like a partner, talk to the US President as an equal – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Mikołów.

– You saw President Duda – he was rather nervously pacing the room. I don't want to attack President Duda at this moment, because I am glad he was in Washington and that he spoke about what is most important for all of us. But the difference was quite significant, you yourselves will admit – he continued.

And now imagine who would represent Poland and sit in that chair next to President Trump. I fear that someone who arrived in Washington, opened their briefcase, took out dumbbells, and started waving them in the White House, might not make a particular impression on President Trump – he assessed.

20:02

Grabiec:

Poland's Security Level Is No Longer What It Was Months Ago

Poland's security level is no longer what it was months ago. The change of administration in Washington also means a change in political strategy. This is very clearly visible – stated Jan Grabiec on TVP Info.

20:04

Grabiec:

Imperial Russia is Our Enemy

I am surprised when I hear Putin's slogans or Moscow's propaganda slogans about Ukraine from the mouths of Polish politicians, from the right-wing, repeated by them because they resonated with some echo overseas. For us, nothing changes regarding Russia. Russia is our enemy, imperial Russia, which wants to return to the times of the Soviet Union – stated Jan Grabiec on TVP Info.

20:15

Grabiec on Cluster Munitions:

We Have Not Ratified This Convention, But the Prime Minister Clearly Declared We Will Not Strive to Adhere to It.

Yes, we have not ratified this [Dublin] convention, but today the Prime Minister clearly declared that we will not strive to adhere to it. This means it poses no limitation for us – stated Jan Grabiec on TVP Info.

20:25

Grabiec on the Question for PiS Politicians:

Will They Defend Thieves From Their Own Ranks?

Today, PiS politicians must answer the question for themselves – will they defend thieves from their own ranks, or will they show some understanding for the mission entrusted to them by voters and say: enough, stop, there are certain limits, we will not protect gangsters who are within our ranks – stated Jan Grabiec on TVP Info.

20:27

Morawiecki on the Battle for the Polish Soul:

We Must Stop These Sellouts, This Pedagogy of Shame.

The mainstream media convinced us, and still convinces us today, that Poland is an inferior country, that we should beat our chests for others' sins, that we are to blame for everything, even World War II; such voices have emerged. The brainwashing of Poles, the pedagogy of shame – we have dealt with all of it – stated Mateusz Morawiecki in Toruń.

All these sellouts of today's Frederick the Greats, heirs of Voltaire, who wrote nonsense about Poland, heirs of Urbans and Michniks. All of them constantly want to crush our pride, our dreams of a great Poland, but we will not yield. We must put a stop to this action. For me, the most important matter, the most important challenge ahead of us, is the fight for the Polish soul, the fight for young Poles, the fight to ensure everyone has Poland in their heart – he continued.

20:27

Morawiecki:

Poland Can Be at the Top of the Added Value Pyramid

Poland can be at the top of the added value pyramid if we have wise young people who believe in Poland and want to engage in Poland; I am calling on you for this, I am asking you for this – said Mateusz Morawiecki in Toruń.

20:27

Morawiecki:

Entering Politics in 2015, It Was Crucial for Me That Poland Be a Country for Young People

When I entered politics in 2015, leaving those banking thrones behind, I had the impression, looking at you young people, that Poland was not a country for young people, and that was a powerful impulse for me to act. The drive that guided me and was key for me to act in such a way that Poland would be a country for young people. So that young people could be proud of Poland, that was my fundamental dream – stated Mateusz Morawiecki in Toruń.
