Tuesday's Political Agenda: Hołownia on Campaign, Jackiewicz Registers Committee, Government Session

At 10:30 AM, the Sejm's constitutional responsibility committee will resume questioning witnesses in the preliminary proceedings for a motion to bring the head of the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT), Maciej Świrski, before the State Tribunal.

At 12:30 PM in Warsaw, a press briefing will be held concerning the registration of Dawid Jackiewicz's election committee.

At 1:00 PM in Warsaw, presidential candidate Szymon Hołownia will hold a press conference. The topic: plans for the presidential campaign.

At 1:00 PM in Warsaw, a press conference will be held by the parliamentary caucus leader Mariusz Błaszczak, PiS spokesperson Rafał Bochenek, PiS MP Katarzyna Czochara, and PiS MEP Waldemar Buda.

At 4:00 PM, the Pegasus inquiry committee will consider evidence motions during a closed session.

The Council of Ministers, during its Tuesday session – the time has not been specified – will address a draft amendment to the Act on the Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy for the years 2023-2027, as well as a draft amendment to the Electricity Market Act.

Also today, the February session of the Monetary Policy Council will commence, where a decision to maintain interest rates at their current level will likely be made.

08:11

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

The Committee Could Have Waited for Ziobro

I believe the [Pegasus investigative] committee could have waited [for Zbigniew Ziobro]. I don't fully understand this emotion that emerged. I am aware of the difficulties under which it operated, that no one has ever approached an investigative committee the way those who ruled have, no one has ever so disregarded it, tried to humiliate it, state institutions, parliament, voters, because this is humiliating voters, it's not about MPs, but about voters who gave the mandate – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in an interview with Marcin Fijołek on Polsat News' "Graffiti."

08:24

Kosiniak-Kamysz on the motion for Ziobro's arrest:

We will discuss it.

We will discuss it [the motion regarding Zbigniew Ziobro's arrest], as we do with every matter. The caucus is meeting today, so we will likely hear the arguments of Chairwoman Sroka and then discuss what decision to make. There is certainly a need for Zbigniew Ziobro to answer before the investigative committee, as soon as possible – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on Polsat News' "Graffiti".

08:38

"Difficult to Imagine Such a Scenario": Kosiniak-Kamysz on Polish Army’s Participation in Peacekeeping in Ukraine

It is difficult to imagine such a scenario [where the Polish army would participate in peacekeeping in Ukraine] and we are not preparing for such a scenario. I believe that if anything were to guarantee peace, it would be investments by American and European companies in Ukraine. They will be the best guarantor of security and peace and the best guardians – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in Polsat News's “Graffiti”.

08:50

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

PSL's Bill on Patriotic Education in Schools Stuck in Parliament. Platforma is Blocking It

[The bill on patriotic education] is stuck in Parliament, and I don't understand why. We are following up on this matter in the Education Committee. The head of the committee, presumably former minister Krystyna Szumilas, is not interested in presenting this bill urgently. I believe this is a mistake, as it is needed – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on Polsat News' "Graffiti".

The problem likely lies in the fact that the author is the PSL, because not everyone likes that we are a symbol of this sphere, of these matters. Yes, [Platforma is blocking it]. In this case, if they don't want to move it forward, then there is a blockade and a dispute within the coalition – he continued.

09:00

Kosiniak-Kamysz on the Government:

There is a need for a clear division of competencies.

All of this is ahead of us. It is normal that after some time in government, there is an opportunity for summing up, and presidential elections and Krzysztof Gawkowski’s statements in this interview are moments when it is worth summarizing our actions, improving them if possible. The structure of central administration certainly still requires reorganization. There are many issues scattered across different ministries – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in “Graffiti” on Polsat News.

There is a need for a clear division of competencies. Our predecessors ruined this because it was necessary to create a plenipotentiary and transfer CPK there. In the matter of infrastructure, we managed to put it back together over the past year – he continued.

Perhaps you are right, I am in favor of the idea that if something is possible, some things can be done without legislative changes, by transferring competencies, so that we reach an agreement [before the elections] – he added.

09:09

Sasin:

The Finance Minister's Failure to Implement NCK Resolutions is Simply a Crime

– It no longer has any significance whatsoever today whether the commission can agree on answers to some letter from the Minister of Finance. The matter is clear, there is a resolution from the National Election Commission (PKW) which clearly states that the financial report of PiS is accepted – Jacek Sasin said in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on the program “Sedno Sprawy” on Radio Plus.

– The head of the NCK […] stands guard over the legality of the commission's actions, he stands guard over the law, the Minister of Finance should have absolutely no doubts, and the fact that today he is not implementing the resolutions of the National Election Commission is simply a crime – he continued.

09:15

Sasin on the Justice Fund:

I See No Arguments to Say There's Any Scandal Here.

– In what place was a crime committed here, meaning, where was this money [from the Justice Fund] defrauded, because so far [...] I see no arguments to say there's any scandal here, because was supporting volunteer fire brigades a scandal, I don't know – Jacek Sasin said on Radio Plus.

– Currently, I don't think anyone has been proven to have spent this money incorrectly – he continued.

09:20

Sasin:

An arrest warrant can be sought if someone isn't brought before a commission. Ziobro was brought in, and the commission fled.

– Today anything is possible, today, when these people rule, when Tusk and Bodnar rule, absolutely anything is possible. Every obscenity and every breach of law is something that can be on the agenda today. After all, there are absolutely no grounds not only to apply arrest, but even to request such an arrest, – said Jacek Sasin in an interview with Radio Plus.

– The Code of Criminal Procedure clearly states that an arrest can be sought if a person is not brought by the police to a commission session. Minister Ziobro was brought in, and then the commission fled, – he continued.

09:25

Is Ziobro Being Persecuted? Sasin: I Have No Doubt

– I have no doubt whatsoever that this is exactly the case – said Jacek Sasin on Radio Plus, when asked if Zbigniew Ziobro is being persecuted.

– Zbigniew Ziobro is public enemy number one for this team that is currently governing Poland, or at least one of public enemies number two, three […] Zbigniew Ziobro simply must be arrested under any pretext to satisfy the thirst for revenge of the most bloodthirsty part of the electorate of the ruling coalition of December 13 and Donald Tusk himself – he continued.

09:32

Wipler:

If the PSL Wanted Their Own Government, I Would Vote For It

– I can imagine that if Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz came to us today and said that what is happening in Poland is bad and that they no longer want to be a part of it and would like to have their own government, I'm not talking about any coalitions, coalition cooperation, but their own government, from which they would expel Bodnar, Nowacka, spiritual master Kotula and take it themselves, it would still be a much better government – said Przemysław Wipler in an interview with Łukasz Jankowski on Poranek Radia Wnet.

As he stated: – I would absolutely vote [for a government of only PSL members] and I would try to convince my colleagues to do the same, because a government without Bodnar, Nowacka, Kotula, without all these lunatics, all these people who are actively destroying our country, fighting against the values that are important to us, dismantling the judiciary, the prosecution service […], that is a great positive change.

09:44

Siemoniak on the Government’s Stance on the Migration Pact:

We Will Not Accept, There Will Be No Relocation.

Our stance [on the Migration Pact] is unequivocal. We are opposed to the Migration Pact, Prime Minister Tusk has spoken about this many times, and there is absolutely no question of accelerating or not accelerating it. This was not the main topic of discussion – stated Tomasz Siemoniak on Radio ZET.

We will not accept, there will be no relocation, we are stating this very clearly. We have clearly taken a position on the Migration Pact at successive EU meetings – he added.

09:45

Siemoniak on Civil Defence:

Decades of Neglect Must Be Addressed.

[The state is preparing for civil defence]. We have a law from January 1st; decades of neglect must be addressed. It is prepared to the extent that there were no adequate regulations, now there is money, there are regulations, and in the coming years, we will intensively catch up, build shelters, improve the notification system, and build secure communication – said Tomasz Siemoniak on Radio Zet.

09:45

Siemoniak:

Ziobro Refused to Appear. The Commission Acted Absolutely Correctly

There is a precise timeline. The commission made its decision at 10:40 AM, and Minister Ziobro refused to appear before it. It was plainly visible; he disregarded it, and that's that. I believe the commission acted absolutely correctly – stated Tomasz Siemoniak on Radio ZET.

09:46

Siemoniak:

We Will Not Allow Criminal Groups, Both Polish and Foreign, to Operate

This is a result of the uncontrolled influx in recent years. Imported crime, the resurgence of organized, brutal crime – Georgian citizens particularly stand out negatively in this regard – and we are taking steps. These involve detentions, sentences, and the deportation of individuals we wish to expel from Poland. This is one of the main priorities for the police – stated Tomasz Siemoniak on Radio ZET.

We will not allow criminal groups, whether Polish or foreign, to operate here in any way, and we are striving to crush this absolutely in its infancy – he continued.

09:46

Siemoniak Responds to Bosak Regarding Ziobro:

The Marshal Confuses Arrest with Forced Attendance.

Marshal Bosak is confusing an arrest when there is a prosecutor's order with the forced attendance at court or a parliamentary investigation committee. The police had absolutely no right to surveil Minister Ziobro’s services. What would Marshal Bosak say if the services had been tracking former minister Ziobro for several days? Did the police act routinely, or is it about the forced attendance of an ordinary citizen to court, or is a former Minister of Justice treated the same, and the police actions were absolutely professional – said Tomasz Siemoniak on Radio ZET.

09:50

Siemoniak:

Ziobro's Weapons Are Legal

The police analyzed this, of course, from the perspective of the safety of officers who would have to escort the former minister, because if someone has weapons at home and even boasts about it, it’s not a reason for jokes for the officers, but a serious question about safety – said Tomasz Siemoniak on Radio ZET.

His statement, to put it mildly, was extremely awkward. It is unbecoming for a former minister or anyone who possesses any weapon to speak in such an immature manner – he added.

Yes, that is correct [the weapons Ziobro possesses are legal] – he emphasized.

09:50

Siemoniak on Coalition Disputes:

This is not a military camp like under PiS.

In various circumstances, people have been tempted, and those people always ended badly. Of course, I don't like it when ministers argue publicly, but this is a democratic coalition. People can have different views; these are four parties proud of their identity; this is not a military camp like PiS – stated Tomasz Siemoniak on Radio ZET.

09:51

"He Could Count 20-30 People." Wipler on MPs Who "Would Very Much Like to Join the Confederation Club"

– Believe me, our club could have twenty-something, perhaps thirty-something people, if we wanted to finalize some of the discussions currently underway with MPs who would very much like to join the Confederation club – Przemysław Wipler said on Poranek Radia Wnet.

Currently, the Confederation club has 18 MPs.

When pressed about names, he replied: – I won't talk about such things. From the Left, I can say, I won't reveal a radical secret, nobody.

10:18

Transfer from the Presidential Palace to Confederation? Wipler: I Personally Would Like to Cooperate with Two Individuals

– There are no such talks, they have never been held. But I personally, and I'm saying this solely as Przemysław Wipler, believe that these are very capable politicians who, on the Polish political scene, in service to Poles, will still have many good, interesting challenges ahead of them – said Przemysław Wipler in an interview with Poranek Radia Wnet, when asked about the rumor that the Head of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Poland, Marcin Mastalerek, and presidential advisor Łukasz Rzepecki might move to Confederation.

– In my opinion, yes [Łukasz Rzepecki would fit into Confederation]. I would like to remind you that Łukasz Rzepecki did not become a Member of Parliament 5 years ago only because he refused the top spot on the PSL list from Konin. He said he wouldn't run from the PSL, especially from a constituency he has nothing to do with. Had he run, [...] he would have become an MP. He is a man of principle who left PiS because he did not want to vote for tax increases – he continued.

– I am not authorized at this moment to speak about any transfers. I am talking about my personal sympathies, my personal approach. If I were to do anything significant in Polish politics, I would like to cooperate with such people – he stated.

11:08

Morawiecki Publishes 3 Questions for Tusk and Trzaskowski:

The Government’s Stance on the EU Migration Pact is a Lie.

There are lies that threaten the security of the entire country and the future of our children. These cannot go unnoticed and unaddressed. And the government’s stance on the EU Migration Pact is one such lie – wrote Mateusz Morawiecki on social media.

Recently, EU Commissioner for Migration Magnus Brunner stated that Poland will not be excluded from the Migration Pact. Consequently, questions arise – added one of the PiS leaders, publishing 3 questions:

1. Did Donald Tusk, knowing he would agree to the Migration Pact, lie directly to Poles, declaring that “no one in Europe will outsmart me” and saying that Poland would be exempted from the mandatory relocation mechanism?

2. What is the government doing to block the relocation of thousands of illegal and dangerous immigrants to Poland?

3. Why are most media outlets silent on this issue? Where are the journalists? Busy amplifying false accusations and inflated tip-offs against the opposition?

The Migration Pact, alongside the Green Deal, is the most dangerous and harmful EU Commission project for Poland, in whose implementation Donald Tusk and Rafał Trzaskowski are actively participating. If they are implemented – the consequences will be catastrophic. We cannot allow this! – emphasized the former Prime Minister.

12:09

Further Charges Against Romanowski. Prosecutor General's Spokesperson Announces Motion to the Sejm

In this situation, where it becomes necessary, and prosecutors investigating the case, based on their assessment of the evidence, deem it necessary to supplement the charges against Mr. Marcin R., further parliamentary consent is required to prosecute him for these additional offenses. These are 8 offenses – stated the spokesperson for the Prosecutor General, Anna Adamiak.

12:17

Indictment Filed Against 6 Individuals in Justice Fund Case

Today, a prosecutor from investigation team no. 2 of the National Public Prosecutor's Office has also sent an indictment to the District Court in Warsaw against 6 individuals. These individuals are Urszula D., Karolina K., Michał O., Marcin M., Wojciech Z., and Monika G. – stated the spokesperson for the Prosecutor General, Anna Adamiak.

These 6 individuals are collectively accused by the prosecutor of committing 15 offenses. Three of these individuals face charges formulated in the indictment, which previously in the decision to present charges included participation in an organized crime group, exceeding authority and failure to fulfill duties, as well as certifying falsehoods – she continued.

Michał O. collaborated with these accused in committing these crimes in order to maintain a subsidy for a foundation that did not meet the criteria – she emphasized.

13:12

Kosiniak-Kamysz on Building a Blocking Minority Regarding the Mercosur Agreement:

A Very Clear Government Stance.

A very clear government stance on the Mercosur agreement. We are against it and we are building a blocking minority because, unfortunately, some countries are interested in its implementation. I myself have had the opportunity to raise these issues at every level – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press briefing at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister (KPRM).

A few weeks ago, the Italian Minister of Defence was in Poland, where we are counting heavily on Prime Minister Meloni’s government, which might support us, and together with France, if there were Poland, France, Italy, there is Ireland, there are other countries, we can build this blocking minority – the Deputy Prime Minister continued.

13:15

Kosiniak-Kamysz on Electricity Bills:

A Very Important and Necessary Change for Entrepreneurs.

We are extending the deadline for submitting applications for de minimis aid for entrepreneurs regarding lower electricity bills from last year until the end of June 2025. This is a very important and necessary change for entrepreneurs, both small and medium-sized – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press briefing in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister (KPRM).

13:25

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

Poles Expect an Efficient Justice System

I think Poles expect an efficient justice system. It is the court that should rule on guilt or innocence. The prosecution’s role is to prepare the case material and submit it as quickly as possible, and the effectiveness of the justice system, the entire judicial process, is measured by how quickly a decision is reached – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press briefing at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister (KPRM).

13:36

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

The Justice System Will Be Fixed Only When There's a Constitutional Reset

In my opinion, the justice system will be fixed when there is a constitutional reset. A new chapter in the Constitutional Tribunal is needed. Without this, there will be no full repair of the justice system. We inherited a huge mess and disorder. It's not politicians who are questioning the status of judges; not only politicians have doubts here, but judges themselves refer to the ECtHR rulings concerning the status of judges in Poland – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press briefing at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.

13:37

Błaszczak on Flood Damage Remediation:

A Symbol of How Bad the Tusk Government Is.

– The reaction to flood damage remediation is an example, it is a symbol of how bad Donald Tusk's government is, it is a symbol of how Donald Tusk's government badly treats Poles who are in need. […] When we analyze the way assistance was provided to those affected [by the flood], we are once again dealing with a bad law. The Law and Justice Parliamentary Club proposed different solutions, proposed solutions that would genuinely help those affected – said Mariusz Błaszczak at a press conference.

– The criteria for granting, for example, financial support are so stringent that not everyone who was affected could benefit from this law, and yet, in the Law and Justice project, we pointed this out, but we were not listened to – he continued.

– Almost 5 months after the flood, a container kindergarten is being opened with great fanfare and a parade. The Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of National Defence, and the minister appointed to deal with flood damage remediation are participating in this opening […] such a container kindergarten could have been built within a few weeks after this tragic event, and instead, a ceremony was held, at which, moreover, the children were treated badly – he went on.

– The last argument concerns Donald Tusk's declaration that there would be financial support from the European Union for flood victims. This turned out to be an empty promise […] as Mr. MP Waldemar Buda found out, this money did not arrive in our country; moreover, only after Mr. MP's intervention did the government submit an application – he added.

13:38

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

The National Media Council is an Unnecessary Body

The National Media Council is, in my opinion, a completely unnecessary body. There was the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT), and it should have functioned. There should be a completely different system for public media here, but a wholesale change without broad support and discussion will probably not be possible until after the presidential elections – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press briefing at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.

13:45

Buda:

Minister Kierwiński is the Only Person in Poland Who Wants Flood Damage Cleanup to Continue Indefinitely

– In essence, the only person in Poland who wants the flood damage cleanup to not end is, unfortunately, Minister Kierwiński. Imagine that the moment the effects are resolved, he loses his job. So, I am not surprised that he is halting these works, I am not surprised that he is not very dynamic in this process, because if he were to actually bring help to flood victims, he would lose his job – Waldemar Buda said at a press conference.

– It cannot function like this, 25 million this year, he is counting on his office and his functions to operate for another year, meaning another 25 million – he continued.

13:56

Former Minister Szydło Announces Candidacy:

Ambitious Poland and the President of Ambitious Poles.

My name is Dawid Jackiewicz and I will be running for President of Poland. I have just submitted over 1,500 citizen signatures granting me their support. Citizens who, like you, ladies and gentlemen, demand that politicians focus on something more than bickering and squabbling. Who expect the president to be a guardian of their interests and theirs alone. Who want the president to be beholden to no political party, so that no party leader can issue him orders – says Dawid Jackiewicz in a video published on social media.

In his less than 2-minute recording, the former minister in Beata Szydło's government outlines his campaign message: – Poles have the right to be tired and irritated by this futile, destructive bickering that has been ongoing for over two decades between political parties, and especially between the leaders of the two most antagonistic political parties. This dispute, this unproductive dispute, stifles Polish entrepreneurship, blocks developmental potential, and prevents us from spreading our wings, yet we could become an economic leader in Europe. This dispute stifles entrepreneurship, stifles creativity, stifles ingenuity.

I am running in the elections with a proposal for an ambitious Poland. A Poland that allows for development, for the creation of small businesses, medium-sized enterprises, innovative businesses, that allows people to work and receive a decent wage. It doesn't pit one against the other, it doesn't waste opportunities, ambitions. I will be the voice of free Poles, the voice of reasonable and ambitious people. I want you, when standing at the ballot box, not to have to again, with gritted teeth, choose the lesser of two evils. I want you to have the opportunity to choose an ambitious economy, an ambitious system, ambitious security. In short, an ambitious Poland and a president of ambitious Poles – he emphasizes.

14:15

Tusk Announces Changes to Housing Allowances for Uniformed Service Officers

With great satisfaction, I can today tell you, and above all, Polish police officers, that we have reached a final solution for the coming months, together with Minister Siemoniak, a solution that thousands of male and female police officers, as well as Border Guard and Fire Brigade officers, have been waiting for for a long time – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference.

We all know that the situation in these services requires support from the state. We are talking here not only about such obvious matters as maintaining the highest possible status of this service – he continued.

What we have agreed upon with the minister, after consultations with police officers and trade unions, what is possible in this short time and I believe can fundamentally improve the material situation of male and female officers, is to equalize this status regarding housing allowances, for example, with the status of Polish Army soldiers – emphasized the head of government.

We were very keen for service in the police to be attractive again, perhaps that’s the wrong word, but for there to be more people interested in joining the service than those who are leaving – said Tusk.

For this positive trend to be sustainable, decisions like today's were necessary. The housing allowance for male and female officers of the police, Border Guard, and Fire Brigade will range from PLN 900 to PLN 1800, depending on the place of residence and place of service – emphasized the head of government.

The changes to the housing allowance are set to come into effect on July 1st.

14:23

Tusk:

Poland Will Not Implement Any Migration Pact

– Poland will not implement any migration pact or any provision of such projects that would lead to Poland being forced to accept migrants identified in other European countries. This is definitive, and there's no need to make a political issue out of it – Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at a press conference.

– The Polish state, the Polish government, will not waste the efforts of police officers, soldiers, and the Border Guard, who sometimes risk their lives there. They risk their health daily to minimize, as much as possible, though it cannot be zero, the threat of illegal migration – he continued.

– No one, neither in Europe nor here in Poland, will squander this great effort and sacrifice through any bad political decisions – he further stated.

– This threat of mass legal and illegal migration disappeared with the government of our predecessors – he added.

14:26

Hołownia:

Poles Today Need a Guardian of Balance, Someone to Represent Them

Poles today, in these presidential elections, need a guardian of balance. Someone who will not represent the ruling political class, or the one in opposition, yet again. Someone who will represent the people who cast their votes in these elections, who will represent the voters who, looking at what is happening today, ask themselves whether everything went as they wanted. Because after all, people are the most important, their questions, their concerns, their vision of Poland that they carry within them – stated Szymon Hołownia at the presidential convention.

14:27

Hołownia on Communication Exclusion:

The President of the Republic of Poland Must Have an Answer on How to Ensure That Not Only Warsaw Matters.

In the Sejm, we deal with a thousand different things, immunities, we get excited about what someone said about someone else, while people in Poland today lack basic freedom, the choice of where they want to travel to work or study. They are condemned to live in one area or another – said Szymon Hołownia at the presidential convention.

We have not yet learned this lesson, we have not learned this lesson, and we must learn it. If someone today wants to be president in Poland, they must have an answer on how to make it so that not only Warsaw matters in Poland, but that Płock can dream of a normal connection to the world, that Grudziądz can finally have it, that this finally happens in other cities in Poland – he continued.

14:27

Tusk Addresses EU Leaders:

If Anyone Wants to Implement the Migration Pact, They Shouldn't Hesitate.

I am telling my colleagues in the EU – if anyone wants to implement this [migration] pact, they shouldn't hesitate. Poland has its own problems caused by the war, primarily concerning the excessive number of people who have been absolutely justifiably accepted here, who are being hosted in Poland, but this comes with burdens – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference.

14:30

in Brussels:

We Discussed Various Scenarios." Tusk on the "Discreet, Informal Meeting

Yesterday, until almost midnight, as you know, we were in Brussels at a discreet, informal meeting, and we discussed various scenarios. As you can guess, the issue of Denmark and Greenland was naturally one of the topics, because Denmark, as part of the EU, also expected full solidarity and received this declaration from all states, without exception, concerning the territorial integrity of the state – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference.

14:32

Tusk:

If the US administration deems customs barriers necessary, the EU must respond in kind

If the Washington administration deems customs barriers necessary, I don't believe they actually believe it, but if they decide that for some time or for some reason some customs barriers with the EU are needed, then the EU must respond in a similar way. There is no other option – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference.

14:33

Hołownia Announces Electoral Slogan

For the sake of people, because they are the most important, I want to make it the motto, refrain, principle, and foundation of my entire electoral campaign, and later my presidency. People are the most important, and that is precisely why this will be the slogan that accompanies me from the first days of this electoral journey; people are the most important – stated Szymon Hołownia at the presidential convention.

It is the people who need their representative in the Presidential Palace today, not politicians, not the prime minister, not the leader of this or that party, but the people who vote, who choose, and who want to choose their own happiness – he continued.

14:34

Hołownia:

I Kept My Promises as Sejm Marshal, I Will Keep Those I Make as a Presidential Candidate

For over a dozen months, I have held the position of Marshal of the Sejm. I have delivered on all the promises I made on the first day of my term, when I addressed the MPs, and the Polish women and men. The Sejm is an open Sejm, unlike it has been for decades, and I am very happy about that. The Sejm is a place where both the government and the opposition have their place, and the number of opposition bills read during sessions is absolutely spectacular compared to previous terms. The Sejm today is truly a place for building a democratic community – said Szymon Hołownia at the presidential convention.

I kept the promises I made as Marshal, and I will keep those I make as a presidential candidate, and thanks to you, I believe, the future president – he added.

14:40

"One of the Smallest Governments in Europe in Terms of Structure." Tusk Announces "Systemic Change"

My intention, as you know, was to build a coalition. It wasn't a simple project. A multi-party coalition, and over these months it has become apparent that we have different views on some matters, and that was one of the reasons why this government is so large. Definitely after the presidential elections, we will present a project, it will require the acceptance of the new president, because it will be a systemic change, we will have not one of the largest governments in Europe, but one of the smallest governments in Europe, in terms of government structure – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference.

There will also be obvious personnel consequences from this. Not that someone will be sacked as a punishment, but there will certainly be fewer ministers, and I don't know if those who speak about it loudly in public are presenting themselves for this reconstruction as authors or victims, but we will see about that after June – he continued.

14:42

Hołownia Announces Campaign Manager

I want to inform you that from now on, the role of campaign manager will be taken over by Minister Jacek Cichocki, who has consequently taken unpaid leave from the Chancellery of the Sejm to lead us through these 102 days until the first round, and then we'll see what happens next. He is a tried and tested friend, a political comrade, a man I can rely on 100%. A close collaborator and an excellent organizer – said Szymon Hołownia at the presidential convention.

14:42

Hołownia Poses Question to Trzaskowski Regarding CPK

I have the courage today to speak out, to demand things that are important to people, and that is why I also have the courage to ask my competitors, Rafał Trzaskowski. Is he able to declare clearly and openly that, regardless of the stance of one politician or another within his party, he will stand firm to ensure that CPK enables railway connections as needed by the residents of Płock, Grudziądz, and Kalisz? Will he have the courage, if necessary, to challenge the government and clearly and unequivocally stand on the side of the voters, on the side of the people? – stated Szymon Hołownia at the presidential convention.

14:43

Minister Bodnar is responsible for justice, so the Prosecutor General doesn't announce on TV who is guilty and who isn't. Tusk on the Justice Fund

– I even wanted to casually ask Prime Minister Orban yesterday in Brussels how his guest was feeling, but Prime Minister Orban seemed somewhat subdued and I had trouble finding him in the corridors. He seemed to be avoiding direct contact, so I don't know what intentions the Hungarian hosts of Mr. Romanowski have – Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at a press conference, when asked if the accusations concerning the Justice Fund were a success for the prosecution and if there was a plan to bring Marcin Romanowski back to Poland.

– The police are for quick action. That's what we have police for, and we know how well police officers pass this test, to act immediately in situations of danger, law-breaking, risks, and threats. However, the juggernaut of justice, meaning investigations, evidence gathering, and the prosecution, proceeds slowly. I prefer it to proceed slowly, but to be done lege artis. I don't want to repeat the mistakes of my predecessors – he continued.

– You know why Minister Bodnar is responsible for justice? So that no one ever gets the idea that the Prosecutor General will announce on television who is guilty and who is innocent, and moreover, a politician […] I am not here to comment on whether something is a success for the prosecution or not – he went on to say.

– I would prefer that instead of press speculation and cameras at temporary arrests, as many cases as possible would reach the courts as quickly as possible. But I will not decide what 'quickly' means; the prosecution must prepare such material thoroughly – he added.

Hołownia on Ideas to Increase Birth Rates:

Nawrocki's Sponsor's Magical Thinking That Women Are Child-Making Machines Has Failed.

Every idea to support large families is worth its weight in gold. We proposed one in our election campaign, and I believe that over these three years, the coalition will implement this idea: Family PIT, meaning the more children, the lower the tax. This is a very good idea, and it has proven successful in many countries. I hope that over these 3 years, we will be able to afford to finally introduce this project, because it is rational, it is the simplest – stated Szymon Hołownia at the presidential convention.

If someone wants to talk to me about how to support both demographics and birth rates in Poland, I am absolutely open to it. However, magical vouchers, magical thinking, which was presented, for example, by Jarosław Kaczyński, the political sponsor and boss of Karol Nawrocki, that a woman is a child-making machine, that you put in 500 PLN and a child pops out, has, as it turns out, not worked, because it's a much more complicated story – he continued.

15:35

Hołownia on future relations with Trump:

I am convinced we would reach an understanding.

Today, if I were to sit down for a conversation with President Trump, I am convinced we would be able to reach an understanding on important issues. Not least because we spend tens of billions of zlotys from the funds designated for defense precisely in the United States – said Szymon Hołownia at the presidential convention.

15:36

Hołownia on the dispute between Pełczyńska-Nałęcz and Paszyk:

There is no war, neither in TD nor in the government.

Regarding housing construction, there is indeed a difference of opinion. There is a dispute, but I understand it as a dispute, not a breaking of the coalition. If we were to break the coalition after every media report about the possibility of breaking the coalition, we would probably be celebrating the hundredth coalition-breaking moment in recent months. There is no coalition breaking. It's a discussion about what to do in a situation where the state has little money, because our predecessors stole it, or gave it away indiscriminately, or incurred debt, and now we have to pay interest on it. How to implement individual things when the blanket is short – stated Szymon Hołownia at the presidential convention.

There is no war here, neither in TD nor in the government, it's just about paying attention to what our voters are telling us – he added.

Tusk Warns of "Inevitable Revolt" in the EU. Morawiecki Responds: It Will Target Your Government

– A revolt against regulation is inevitable! Whether anyone in the EU likes it or not. The time has come! – wrote Prime Minister Donald Tusk on the X portal.

Mateusz Morawiecki responded to the Prime Minister's post. – The only revolt that is coming will take place in Poland and it will be directed against your failing government – regardless of whether anyone in the EU likes it or not – wrote the former Prime Minister.

18:33

Tusk on the Investigation into the Justice Fund:

The Machine Has Started.

– First slowly, like a sluggish turtle, the machine started on the tracks lethargically. It jerked the wagons and is pulling with effort. And it turns, the wheel turns after wheel. And it accelerates its run, and rushes ever faster. And it rumbles, and it clatters, it thunders and it speeds – said Prime Minister Donald Tusk in a recording published on the X portal, quoting a poem by Julian Tuwim.

Fragments of media publications about the investigation into irregularities in the Justice Fund were shown in the background. Radio ZET wrote about the indictment being sent to court, and TVP Info about Marcin Romanowski being charged with eight new counts.

At the end of the recording, the Prime Minister winks at the viewers.

19:35

Trzaskowski:

The Commission Could Have Waited for Ziobro, But It's Not Responsible for the Circus We Witnessed

– First and foremost, the minister [Zbigniew Ziobro] is behaving scandalously because he mocks the justice system, he mocks the Polish state. He said he had nothing to hide, so why didn't he show up for the commission meeting normally? This is not the first time he has avoided meeting with the commission, and then we are faced with these kinds of spectacles. These spectacles are sad because they ridicule the state, they ridicule Minister Ziobro himself – said Rafał Trzaskowski in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program “Gość Wydarzeń” on Polsat News.

– The commission could have waited [for Zbigniew Ziobro], but it is not the commission that is responsible for the circus-like situation we have witnessed, which simply worries all of us. […] After all, this party has “law” and “justice” in its name, it should treat the state seriously – he continued.

19:40

Trzaskowski:

Let no one in Europe think they can force us into anything. No agreement on the migration pact.

– The sheer audacity of Prime Minister Morawiecki is simply unbelievable; a party that couldn't secure its borders and was handing out visas left and right in a corrupt scheme is now trying to hold us accountable for the migration pact – said Rafał Trzaskowski on Polsat News.

– We voted against it, the Prime Minister clearly stated we would not comply with any relocation, and I have been saying for many, many months, if not years, that we have already done our part regarding European, migratory policy, because we have helped millions of Ukrainians. Let no one in Europe think they can force us into anything. There is no agreement to implement any provisions of this pact that concern any form of relocation. We have already done enough for Europe – he continued.

19:45

Trzaskowski:

If we presented the EU with a bill for accepted Ukrainians, it would have to send us billions

– Commissioner Brunner must consider one thing, that if we were to present the European Union with a bill for all the Ukrainians we have accepted, saying: let the European Union pay for it, then the European Union would have to send us billions to our account – said Rafał Trzaskowski on Polsat News.

19:50

Hołownia on Abortion Bills:

There is a majority in the Sejm for these two solutions, or at least one can be sought.

The Sejm is a place where one seeks majorities for solutions. I believe that today there is a majority in the Sejm for these two solutions, or at least one can be sought, which is why I expect that the reports on these two bills [concerning abortion] will be presented to the Sejm, at a plenary session as soon as possible – stated Szymon Hołownia on TVN24’s “Fakty po faktach.”

I am of the opinion that the Sejm is there to give people clear messages. We have either passed something or not passed it, and we should look for another solution, rather than freezing matters for months – he continued.

19:54

Hołownia on Poland 2050:

We Are Still a Political Boutique, Not a Big Corporation.

Please don't ask me about the European Parliament elections, because for such a boutique… These were very specific elections, because we are still a political boutique, not a big corporation, and for us, getting through three elections, where the EP one is the most difficult, because it's truly an election with few seats and requires a powerful machine, was a tremendous challenge, and we won those elections – stated Szymon Hołownia in TVN24's “Fakty po faktach.”

19:55

Trzaskowski:

There are too many Deputy Ministers, I am very glad the Prime Minister wants to change this number

– Absolutely, it would be very good if the government were more effective, more capable, if it acted faster, and if it were smaller to achieve this, then one can only applaud that – said Rafał Trzaskowski on Polsat News, when asked about Donald Tusk's words about one of the smallest governments in Europe and whether he, as president, would "rubber-stamp" such changes.

– Unfortunately, it happens in coalitions that there is not full agreement here, but I see that the Prime Minister has reached the conclusion that this government should be smaller, and I am very glad about that – he continued.

– If you ask me if there are too many Deputy Ministers: there are too many Deputy Ministers. If you ask me if it's good that the Prime Minister wants to change this number: I am very glad about that – he continued.

19:57

"I Received the Request": Hołownia on When a Vote on Consent to Ziobro's Arrest is Possible

– I received a letter this evening, literally an hour and a half ago, from Adam Bodnar with this request, which he signed [to lift Zbigniew Ziobro's immunity in connection with a disciplinary penalty of 30 days arrest]. I have immediately forwarded it for formal assessment in the Sejm […]. This will take two, at most three days – Szymon Hołownia said in an interview with Piotr Kraśko on TVN24’s “Fakty po Faktach.”

– Immediately after that, I will send it to the Rules and MP Affairs Committee. I believe it will not manage to deal with it – during this Sejm session, so during the second February Sejm session – if it decides to prepare a report on this matter – we will be able to vote on it – he indicated.

– If we vote in these 2 weeks, then on the same day I will immediately forward the documents to Adam Bodnar, he will forward them to the prosecutor's office, to the court – he continued.

19:57

Hołownia:

No Changes in This Government or Coalition Without Our Consent

No. I didn't know [about the announced government changes]. I don't know if there is a plan for changes. There will be no changes in this government, in this coalition without our consent. And that is also probably obvious to everyone – stated Szymon Hołownia in TVN24's 'Fakty po faktach' (Facts After Facts).

Perhaps some things indeed need to be rearranged differently, and that's how I also understand the Prime Minister's message. The economy is scattered across 6 ministries; in my assessment, this must change to be more effective. It can be rearranged differently, but I understand that, as is the essence of coalition governments, all coalition partners decide on this – he continued.

20:03

Hołownia:

I Will Vote to Approve Warrant for Ziobro's Arrest

– We haven't discussed it at the club yet [regarding the vote on lifting Ziobro's immunity in connection with his arrest]. The club is currently in session in the Sejm. However, I know how I will vote – I will vote in favor of this motion – said Szymon Hołownia on TVN24's "Fakty po Faktach" (Facts After Facts).

– One cannot mock the state, one cannot in such an audacious way – and moreover, being a former Minister of Justice – turn their back on law and justice. Any ordinary citizen in the country would have no choice and would probably have enough decency to simply fulfill their legal obligation – he stated.

20:09

Hołownia on the Pegasus Committee:

If They Had Waited, It Would Have Been Quicker.

– The [Pegasus inquiry committee] should have waited [for Zbigniew Ziobro], because then there would have been a chance for it all to take less time […]. It would have had, I assume, a few hours at its disposal to demonstrate that Zbigniew Ziobro is brazenly violating law and justice – said Szymon Hołownia on TVN24’s “Fakty po Faktach”.

He continued: – If they had waited, it would have all been quicker. Because they didn’t wait, it’s a bit longer. […] These matters should quickly head towards conclusions. Two inquiry committees have already concluded their work, the Pegasus committee has not concluded its work […], I would want Zbigniew Ziobro to be questioned sooner, not later.

20:12

Hołownia on accountability: Prosecutors have sped up, which I am very happy about

– Prosecutors have sped up, which I am very happy about, because I have also been appealing for a long time. Because people asked for it and appealed for it, because they don’t want to live in a constant state of suspension and endlessly drawn-out procedures – said Szymon Hołownia on TVN24’s “Fakty po Faktach” (Facts after Facts).

– These procedures have indeed accelerated. We should carry out these accountability measures firmly, quickly, decisively, and consistently – he assessed.

MPs from the Civic Coalition's PiS Accountability Team Publish Photo with Tusk:

Constructive and Substantive Discussions.

Thank you for the meeting, Prime Minister Donald Tusk, with the Presidium of the Civic Coalition's Team for the Accountability of PiS Governments. Constructive and substantive discussions are always of great value – wrote Karolina Pawliczak on social media.

20:23

Trzaskowski:

If Poles Elect Me, I Intend to Be an Independent and Active President

If the government fulfills its promises, I hope it will accelerate, and I can only rejoice. I am an independent person and I say one thing clearly: I will inspire the government to act. If there is no action from the government, I will take matters into my own hands. I will not be Andrzej Duda, who simply signs laws and shows no initiative himself. Instead, if Poles elect me, I intend to be not only independent, but very active – stated Rafał Trzaskowski on Polsat News.

20:24

Trzaskowski:

Let's Hold PiS Accountable As Soon As Possible and Move On to Fulfilling All Promises

Today, Polish women and men expect acceleration. Let's hold PiS accountable as soon as possible, close this chapter, and move on to acceleration, to the fulfillment of all promises. The government must deliver on this, and today we need a president who will cooperate with the government, inspire it to action, but will also take matters into his own hands and propose very concrete initiatives – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Polsat News.

20:25

Trzaskowski on the Green Deal:

There are elements of this policy that are good, but the EU got carried away

Today, we managed to achieve one most important thing in the European Union. To say, “the world is changing,” we have a new President of the United States, China is pursuing a much more aggressive policy, we are focusing on competitiveness. Today, competitiveness is paramount, and unlike Morawiecki, we are truly influencing the European Union to change its priority – stated Rafał Trzaskowski in Polsat News.

There are elements of this policy [the Green Deal] that are good, and those where the European Union got carried away. Today, we are clearly saying too much, too many regulations, too much impact on competitiveness, we are changing course – he added.

20:26

Trzaskowski:

I am a politician of common sense, according to the law, we have two biological sexes

Everyone deserves respect, also when it comes to how one addresses another, and now I know what PiS is doing. PiS is again trying to seek out, to provoke some further culture wars, in order to offend people, to persecute, to look for topics that are not a priority and the most important for us today – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Polsat News.

I am a politician of common sense, and according to Polish law, we have two biological sexes, we all know that. However, I will not be drawn into what PiS will try to do. They will try, just as they stirred up hatred against minorities before, now they will try to attack again, they will try to find these kinds of topics to unleash another witch hunt, I will not be drawn into this – he continued.

20:27

Trzaskowski on potential American support for any candidate:

We are too proud a nation for anyone to interfere in our elections.

I think that direct support from any politician from outside Poland in the election campaign for any of the candidates would be counterproductive because Poles themselves want to choose their politicians. In my opinion, they will not accept anyone from the outside telling them who should win the elections. We are too proud a nation, without any complexes, to agree to anyone, even our greatest friend, interfering in our elections – stated Rafał Trzaskowski on Polsat News.
