Żukowska on the Situation in Science and Higher Education:

Reform is Definitely Needed.
- The idea [for science and higher education] will be presented by the future minister, minister, while I have also met many times with representatives of the academic community; there is a multitude of voices there, it's not as if everyone is against reform - said Anna Maria Żukowska in an interview with Jacek Żakowski on "Poranek TOK FM". - Reform is definitely needed because the current solutions, concerning grants, concerning public procurement issues for various types of materials or equipment needed for research, are not suited to today's times. Polish science simply needs to operate faster, more efficiently, and not be somewhere at the back of the world - she continued.

07:51

The Romanowski Affair: Żukowska on "PiS's Defeat" and "Political Negligence"
- I see this as a defeat for Law and Justice, because it is by no means the case that this does not negatively impact that environment, and here even chairman Kaczyński was unable to convince his MP to stop making a fool of himself and flying around Europe, fleeing justice; let's recall that he is a former deputy minister of justice, it is absolutely bizarre - said Anna Maria Żukowska on TOK FM. - The justice system behaved appropriately here; what was neglected, unfortunately, was on the political side, such as, I think, too much confidence and self-assurance regarding the European immunity issue, and this gave rise to the story that Mr. Romanowski is telling, that he was unfairly treated here, wrongly detained while having immunity - she continued. - He is now playing that card, and that card was unnecessarily handed to him - she added.

08:00

"A State Can Be Excluded from the EU'. Żukowska on Hungary's Actions Regarding Romanowski
- Regarding Hungary, the cohesion of the European Union has been violated, because this is a declaration of disloyalty towards other EU member states. If Hungary believes that we are a country that poses a threat to its citizens, then this is a very serious matter, and I don't know how it will end for Hungary - said Anna Maria Żukowska on TOK FM. - A state can be excluded from the European Union under specific rules if a portion of [...] member states make such a decision. Hungary has been systematically marginalizing itself within the European Union for several years now - she continued, when asked about what variants she would consider. - Orbán is such a skillful politician that when he later comes to Brussels, charms the leaders of the European Commission, smiles, says something in English, it all somehow manages to be approved and smoothed over. But perhaps not in this term - she went on to say.

08:04

"Interwar Period Reconstruction Group'. Żukowska on PiS
- I wonder if other PiS MPs will also run away [...] it's some kind of interwar period reconstruction group, when I look at Law and Justice - said Anna Maria Żukowska in TOK FM.

08:17

Dworczyk on Tusk's Government:

Political Exploitation of the Prosecutor's Office and Services to Destroy the Opposition.

- It is an unusual situation that the prosecutor's office and all subordinate services are being politically exploited to destroy the opposition, political opponents, which is precisely what Donald Tusk's government is doing through the prosecutor's office supervised by Minister Bodnar – stated Michał Dworczyk on RMF FM.

- Marcin Romanowski has obtained political asylum in Hungary, and it is worth emphasizing that this is the first time after 1989 that a Polish citizen has received such political asylum – he continued.

- The Hungarian authorities have recognized that today in Poland, Minister Romanowski cannot count on a fair, honest trial. They based this on the authorities' previous actions, which were illegally conducted against Minister Romanowski – emphasized the PiS politician.

08:27

Dworczyk:

The Situation Where the PKW Recognizes the Supreme Court One Day, and Not Two Weeks Later, Is Unexplainable

- It is impossible to explain a situation where the National Electoral Commission (PKW) recognizes the Supreme Court one day, and then, several days or two weeks later, when the matter concerns PiS, it no longer recognizes the Supreme Court - stated Michał Dworczyk in an interview with RMF FM.

08:28

Dworczyk Announces End of Cooperation with Kalisz

- Advocate Kalisz is a recognized lawyer, which is why a few months ago we reached an agreement regarding cooperation and his representation of me in one of the cases. Today, the situation has fundamentally changed because Advocate Kalisz – one might say – has returned to active politics. Therefore, after a conversation, we decided that this cooperation should be terminated - stated Michał Dworczyk on RMF FM.

- This conversation took place at my initiative. At this moment, the advocate does not represent me - he continued.

08:40

Bodnar:

Romanowski, Facing Accountability, Decided to Flee to Hungary
- The essence of this problem boils down to whether the Republic of Poland will bring to a conclusion the process of settling the improper expenditure of funds from the Fund for Judicial Aid - said Adam Bodnar in an interview with Jacek Żakowski on Poranek TOK FM. - Until 2023, there was no possibility to clarify this, because Minister Ziobro cast a protective umbrella over the funds that were being spent by an institution subordinate to him. As a result of a very complex investigation […] we managed to achieve many resolutions and procedural actions, bringing charges, and temporary detentions for many people - he continued. - We managed to bring charges and lift the immunity of Marcin Romanowski - however, he, facing accountability and not wanting to undergo a preventive measure in the form of temporary arrest, decided to flee to Hungary. This is the essence of the problem - he pointed out.

08:44

PiS Presents Hołownia's Summons Regarding PKW Actions:

We're Taking Another Step.
- We have already filed a notification with the prosecutor's office [...] we have also summoned the National Electoral Commission, we have addressed the chairman of the National Electoral Commission to fulfill the commitment [...] concerning the approval of the report of Law and Justice - said Rafał Bochenek at a press conference. - We have also asked the chairman of the National Electoral Commission to [...] notify law enforcement agencies about the violation of law by five members of the National Electoral Commission [...] we have also asked the National Electoral Commission to provide the Minister of Finance with an opinion regarding the subsidies and block grants due to Law and Justice - he continued. - Today, we are taking another step provided for by law [...] during our club meeting, which will start in a moment, we will be collecting signatures under this document, which is a summons to Marshal Hołownia to request President Andrzej Duda to dismiss five members of the National Electoral Commission who are breaking the law - he went on to say. - The deputies of Law and Justice will be signing this summons [...] we will hand this summons over to Marshal Hołownia today, who, just a few dozen hours ago, was calling for some kind of compromise, for arranging relations. This is one of the possibilities that can very quickly resolve the impasse [...] there is no need to adopt new regulations, new legislative provisions - he added.

08:52

Dworczyk:

We Should More Effectively Show Poles How Many Mistakes the Current Government is Making and What Harmful Actions It's Undertaking

- I think we can do better, and this is a pebble to my own garden as well; we should more effectively show Poles how many mistakes the current government is making and what harmful actions it's undertaking concerning the socio-economic consequences for our country - stated Michał Dworczyk on RMF FM.

08:55

Bodnar on actions regarding Romanowski:

The European Arrest Warrant procedure will continue.
- From a legal perspective, of course, the prosecution will undertake all possible actions resulting from the application of the European Arrest Warrant, meaning this procedure will continue - said Adam Bodnar on TOK FM Morning. - I assume that our diplomacy will utilize all available diplomatic means to indicate that this type of action by one Member State towards another deeply violates not only our bilateral relations but also the principle of loyalty within the EU - he continued.

09:00

Bodnar on Hungary: EU Bodies and Institutions Should Consider the Romanowski Case
- I assume that our diplomacy will use all available diplomatic means to indicate that this type of action [political asylum for Romanowski] by one Member State towards another deeply violates not only our bilateral relations, but also the principle of loyalty within the EU – said Adam Bodnar in the TOK FM Morning program. - Likewise, I assume that in this case, EU bodies and institutions, especially the European Commission, should bear this in mind, in the context of the procedure under Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union, which is still ongoing with regard to Hungary – he added.

09:08

The Romanowski Case: Hungarian Ambassador to Poland to be Summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- We consider the decision of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's government to grant political asylum to Marcin Romanowski, who is sought under a European Arrest Warrant, an unfriendly act towards the Republic of Poland and contrary to the elementary principles governing member states of the European Union - stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. - In particular, this action is contrary to the fundamental principle of loyal cooperation within the meaning of Article 4(3) of the Treaty on European Union - the ministry emphasized in a statement. - The justification for this decision, based on alleged political persecution, is offensive to citizens and Polish authorities - it was added. - In response to such an action, the Hungarian Ambassador to Poland will be summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today to receive a formal protest from the Polish side in this matter - it was informed. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also conveyed that: - At the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs has decided to summon the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Hungary, Sebastian Kęciek, to Warsaw for consultations. The diplomatic ministry pointed out that granting international protection in any EU member state does not exempt that country from the obligation to execute a European Arrest Warrant. - If Hungary fails to meet its European obligations, Poland will also petition the European Commission to initiate proceedings against Hungary in accordance with Article 259 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union - it was announced.

09:15

Bodnar:

Attorney Lewandowski Skillfully Omits Court Rulings in His Entire Narrative
- Attorney Lewandowski is acting as a lawyer, and a lawyer defending their client uses various rhetorical and argumentative means to present them in the best possible light - Adam Bodnar said on TOK FM Morning. As he pointed out: - Attorney Lewandowski somehow skillfully omits in this entire narrative the fact that we do have court rulings here. It is the courts that issue specific decisions, both regarding pre-trial detention and the application of the European Arrest Warrant.

09:22

Bodnar:

Romanowski is not the first politician to seek refuge under Orbán
- Please note that this [Marcin Romanowski] is not the first politician to seek refuge under Viktor Orbán. We already had an example of a prime minister of a Balkan country, convicted of corruption offenses, who was also hiding in Hungary - said Adam Bodnar on TOK FM Morning. - But let's also recall that thanks to the work of investigative journalists [...] it was revealed that Daniel Obajtek stayed in Hungary before the EP elections and did not want to appear before the investigative committee at that time - he added.

09:24

Kaczyński on the Romanowski Case:

There Can Be No Fair Trial Under These Political Conditions.

- He is not fleeing from justice, because as you said, perhaps not in the most elegant Polish, but he simply wants to avoid not the justice system, but the actions of people who are in places where they shouldn't be, who simply don't have the right to do this, all of this is legal – stated Jarosław Kaczyński in a conversation with journalists in the Sejm.

- And what he is citing, meaning changes of court presidents, changes of judging panels, and other maneuvers, all indicate that a fair trial cannot take place under these political conditions, and there are all grounds to avoid it – he continued.

09:40

Tusk on the Upcoming Polish Presidency:

Great Hopes and High Expectations.
- In 11 months, you will take on the responsibility for the EU. […] What I know about all of you, how you already work, gives me courage – said Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a meeting with employees of the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the EU. - The matter is not easy, because whoever I talk to here in Brussels, or in other European capitals, they all say how high expectations are associated with the Polish presidency. How great hopes, for various reasons, the Polish presidency is generating in most European countries – he continued. - You know how it is: when expectations are very high, sometimes some may feel disappointed. But I am convinced that thanks to you, this risk of disappointment is minimal – he added.

09:52

Bogucki:

A Civil Movement to Defend Elections is Being Formed

- You are so afraid that you don't want to listen to the verdict of Poles, but rather tamper with the presidential elections. Free Poles will not allow this. A civil movement to defend elections is being formed, and it is Poles who will stop you from tampering with the presidential elections and attempting to falsify them, and you will not succeed - stated Zbigniew Bogucki in the Sejm.

09:53

Tusk on Romanowski’s Asylum:

A Choice Between Lukashenko and Orban.
- The fact that we are taking over the EU presidency from the Hungarian presidency adds an extra flavour to our presidency. This is not only a very serious symbol of the profound change that is currently taking place in Europe thanks to Poland, thanks to you, and also thanks to the fact that Poland has rebuilt the hopes of democrats across Europe in the last year - said Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a meeting with employees of the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the EU. - This is also symbolic, because as you know, the end of the Hungarian presidency is abounding with strange events. I did not expect that those who flee justice, corrupt officials, would already be able to choose between Lukashenko and Orban, seeking refuge from the justice system - he assessed.

09:58

Tusk on the Hungarian Presidency:

I warned that Russian influence could be extremely destructive.

- An additional epilogue to the Hungarian presidency is also Prime Minister Orbán's declaration yesterday that he will not agree to extend sanctions against Russia. And the Hungarian presidency also began with an unexpected visit from Mr. Orbán to Moscow - Prime Minister Donald Tusk said during a meeting with employees of the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the EU.

- I warned our compatriots and I warned Europe that Russian influence could be extremely destructive, including in European Union member states. This makes our task all the more important, as Poland has a reputation as the most ambitious and, at the same time, very sensible country when it comes to challenges concerning threats, mainly from the East - he pointed out.

10:05

Tusk on Romanowski:

We Will Sometimes Have to Wait Longer, But Escapes Always End the Same Way.
- Various people have fled. Those who feel guilty of crimes: whether it's road fatalities or corruption, they flee and will continue to flee. One is sitting in London, one sought refuge in the Dominican Republic, one is seeking refuge in the Emirates, one fled directly to Lukashenko, Judge Szmydt. Yes, we will encounter such facts - said Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a meeting with employees of the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the EU. - But the most important thing is that we know how these types of situations end. We will sometimes have to wait longer, but they always end the same way. All those who imagine that they can use tricks and escapes and remain unpunished are mistaken - he emphasized. As he assured: - Our state is efficient and strong enough for such situations to have a positive conclusion.

10:08

Tusk on Romanowski's Escape: 'No One Has Doubts Anymore About the Extent to Which the State Was Corrupted for Years'
- One thing seems certain – this latest escape [by Marcin Romanowski] shows it very clearly – no one has doubts anymore about the extent to which the state was corrupted by some for years – said Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a meeting with employees of the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the EU. - It's no coincidence that those who stole, those who were corrupt, seek refuge in countries and under the wings of politicians who are very similar to themselves – he added.

10:15

"I Will Not Stop": Bodnar on Continuing Efforts Regarding Legal Violations Accountability

- As the Prosecutor General, I would like to emphasize that I will not stop and will continue all efforts regarding the accountability for all legal violations and misuse of public funds that have taken place in recent years. The issue of the Justice Fund is an absolute priority for me, and therefore, one of my first decisions was to establish an investigative team operating at the level of the National Public Prosecutor's Office - stated Adam Bodnar at a press conference.

10:18

Bodnar:

Investigation into the Justice Fund Remains Ongoing and Developing

- The investigation into the Justice Fund continues to be in a developmental stage, but we must constantly remind that 23 people have already been charged in this case, including several politicians. We are at a stage where an indictment is being prepared in one thread of the case, specifically concerning the Profeto foundation - stated Adam Bodnar at a press conference.

10:29

"Crimes of a Criminal Nature": Korneluk Announces Further Charges Against Romanowski

- Regarding the suspect Romanowski himself, in the immediate future, as early as today, the prosecutor sees the necessity to supplement the charges against Mr. Romanowski with another 7 very serious offenses, crimes of a criminal nature, related to his criminal expenditure of funds from the Fund for the Support of the Imprisoned - stated Dariusz Korneluk at a press conference.

- First, of course, a motion to lift immunity will be sent to the Polish parliament - he continued.

10:38

Bodnar on Bringing Romanowski to Poland:

We Will Involve the EU and the Council of Europe in This Matter.

- The matter is being treated with the highest priority, it carries the highest political significance, and therefore the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski, announced today that he will summon the Hungarian ambassador to officially lodge a protest. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also announced the undertaking of actions. In connection with Poland and Hungary's membership in the EU, an infringement procedure, initiated on the basis of Article 259 TFEU, is possible – stated Adam Bodnar at a press conference.

- We will unfortunately have to involve both the EU and the Council of Europe in this matter, because we cannot allow individuals suspected of committing such serious crimes to evade Polish justice – he continued.

10:38

Kaczyński Publishes Post on Election Validity Confirmation:

Any Other Action Would Be Lawlessness.
"To those who err and attempt to instrumentally treat further provisions of the Constitution, I draw attention to the fact that in the event the Supreme Court confirms the validity of the elections, the National Assembly has a CONSTITUTIONAL OBLIGATION to administer the oath to the president-elect." Jarosław Kaczyński wrote on X. "Any other actions would be a serious constitutional offense, and to put it plainly - lawlessness. It is worth familiarizing oneself with Article 129 sec. 1 in conjunction with Article 130 of the Constitution." - he continued further in the post.

10:51

Korneluk on the Fundusz Sprawiedliwości Investigation:

Many People Are Scheduled for Arrest and Indictment.

- The court, with its decision, confirmed that we are right in how we are conducting this investigation. Today, the investigation has been ongoing for 10 months, encompassing 23 individuals. We are examining several dozen threads, and many more people are scheduled for arrest and indictment – said Dariusz Korneluk at a press conference.

11:09

Bodnar Responds to Kaczyński:

They Are Not Fleeing from the Prosecutor's Office, but from Justice.

- Regarding Jarosław Kaczyński's words, I have the impression that these words are about one thing. It's not so much that individuals are fleeing from the prosecutor's office, but rather fleeing from responsibility for what they did between 2015 and 2023 – said Adam Bodnar at a press conference.

12:20

Hołownia Wants Romanowski's Salary Revoked:

Fleeing to Hungary, He Betrayed His Own State.

Something absolutely unprecedented has happened. A Polish MP, a former Deputy Minister of Justice, fled from justice to Hungary, requested political asylum, thereby betraying his own state. Looking at this from the perspective of the Marshal of the Sejm, I see in this a clear decision, and therefore I voted for this resolution, to permanently evade fulfilling his parliamentary duties – stated Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.

In connection with the above, in this resolution we are appealing to the Sejm services to find a way to draw practical consequences from the decision of Mr. MP Romanowski as quickly as possible. Since he does not want to fulfill his parliamentary mandate, it means that he should not be receiving remuneration for it, because why else would we pay him for it – he continued.

12:20

Hołownia on the bill concerning election validity:

I will meet with the President this afternoon, I will encourage him to support it.
I just met with the leaders of parliamentary clubs and groups operating in the Sejm and presented them with a draft incidental bill, prepared by my office, concerning the determination of the validity of the Presidential election – stated Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.

Hołownia: Election validity will be considered by three Supreme Court judges from the entire Supreme Court

- The controversial chamber of Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs is set aside, while the validity of the presidential election will be determined by the entire remaining composition of the Supreme Court. This is not an act of administering justice, so we should not be debating neo-judges or paleo-judges here. However, all disputed issues, appeals against decisions, complaints against decisions of the National Electoral Commission (PKW), regarding the registration of committees, candidates, and polling stations, would all be considered by three judges, randomly selected from the aforementioned chambers of the Supreme Court, presided over by the judge with the longest tenure – he continued.

- This afternoon, I will meet with the President, to whom I will also present this draft bill and encourage him to support it once it arrives, but also to discuss how he sees this situation – he added.

12:20

Hołownia on Changes to the Law on the Exercise of a Parliamentary Mandate:

We Must Defend the Law from Schemers and Cheats.

- I will also propose a change to the law on the exercise of a deputy's and senator's mandate, which will legally clarify this situation. It will be a simple change, this project is very simple, Article 5a: "A deputy or senator, while deprived of liberty, or against whom a decision to apply temporary detention has been issued, shall not exercise the rights and obligations arising from this law" – said Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.

- We cannot do it any other way, since the United Right, or former United Right, is testing Polish law to such an extent today, we must draw consequences from this and defend this law from schemers, cheats, and cowards – he added.

12:42

Requests to Lift Immunities for Szczucki and Obajtek. Grabiec: I Hope PiS Politicians Won't Have to Be Pursued Abroad
- I have invited you to a press conference [...] in connection with the Prosecutor General's requests to strip MP Krzysztof Szczucki and MEP Daniel Obajtek of their immunities - said Jan Grabiec at the press conference. - After the events of the last day, it is difficult to resist the impression or thesis that not only Marcin Romanowski, but also other PiS politicians are joining the list of those being prosecuted by Polish law. I hope they won't have to be pursued outside the borders of the Republic of Poland - he continued.

12:59

Hołownia on Waiving Immunities for Ardanowski and Szczucki:

Possible to Conduct as Early as January.

- The requests have arrived. Yesterday, Minister Bodnar called me, he announced that these requests would arrive in the evening, and they did. They are in the Sejm, so now they will most likely undergo a few days of review, given that we have holidays in between, and they will be forwarded to the committee on parliamentary regulations without delay. If the committee can finalize its report for the first Sejm session in January, then I believe it is possible to conduct it – said Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.

13:00

"History Should Not Be Tied to Politics'. Hołownia on the Necessity of Nawrocki's Resignation from the Head of IPN Position

- The most honest and purest thing would be if Mr. Karol Nawrocki simply resigned from his position, because I know that it is stated there that it is about not being a party member, but we all know what the legislator had in mind. My position is strictly political, whereas the position of the Head of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) should be unrelated to politics – said Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.

- History should not be tied to politics; wherever history connects with politics, problems arise, and I think that Mr. Karol Nawrocki should take this to heart – he added.

13:00

Hołownia on Nawrocki's Visits to Farms:

I Understand He Was Looking for the History of the Agrarian Movement There.
I am very pleased that the PSL has already supported a presidential candidate, because today, as I heard in the Sejm chamber, Mr. Karol Nawrocki was also visiting farms as part of these delegations. I understand that as a historian and head of the IPN, he was looking for some history of the agrarian movement there, or similar things, so colleagues from PSL might be interested in this – stated Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.

13:03

1.3 Million PLN from State Budget Largely Spent on Election Campaign. Grabiec on Szczucki and Audit Results
- The basis for notifying the prosecutor's office about the suspicion of a crime committed by Mr. Krzysztof Szczucki was an extensive audit carried out by employees of the Government Legislation Centre [...]. What we discovered [...] is generally an accusation concerning the expenditure of 1.3 million zlotys largely on the election campaign of Mr. Krzysztof Szczucki [...] he used state budget funds [...] for the promotion of his own person - said Jan Grabiec at a press conference. - In the Government Legislation Centre [...] a new unit appeared after Mr. Szczucki took office as director of this institution. A unit that theoretically was supposed to deal with constitutional law and education, but in practice was created solely to promote Mr. Szczucki in the upcoming elections - he continued. - Information about these abuses [...] became one of many bases or premises for the State Electoral Commission to determine that PiS's campaign was conducted illegally, contrary to the rules concerning election campaigns - he went on to say. - The fact that the prosecutor's office [...] wants to press charges against MP Szczucki is also, in a way, a confirmation that in this dispute between the State Electoral Commission and the neo-judges from the Supreme Court, it is clearly visible that the weight of the gathered evidence is so serious that the prosecutor's office has managed to formulate and prepare the charges so quickly - he added.

13:15

Referrals to the Prosecutor's Office and Demands for Grant Repayments. Grabiec on the Results of Audits and Controls at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister
- We have informed on several occasions that audits and controls concerning other public expenditures at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister are being conducted, and today I wanted to say very briefly [...] what findings, what charges, what referrals to the prosecutor's office have been made - said Jan Grabiec at a press conference. - We have liquidated two institutes, the De Republica Institute and the Pokolenie Institute, due to significant suspicions of breaking the law and siphoning off public funds by these institutes. In the case of the De Republica Institute, 5 referrals have been made to the prosecutor's office, including those concerning the payment of undue remuneration to the institute's director - he continued. - In the case of the Pokolenie Institute, 7 referrals have been made to the prosecutor's office, also concerning financial matters, but also, for example, the deliberate destruction of data on computers after the supervision of the institutes was taken over by a liquidator appointed by the Chancellery of the Prime Minister - he further stated. - Also subject to controls are grants awarded by Prime Minister Morawiecki from reserves available to the prime minister. So far, at least 6 notifications have been sent to the prosecutor's office, with others being processed. The amounts of funds that we allege were defrauded or spent unlawfully in these notifications to the prosecutor's office amount to 48 million Polish zloty - he added. - At the same time, we have demanded the repayment of as much as 63 million 800 thousand Polish zloty by institutions and entities that were showered by Prime Minister Morawiecki with public funds and received these grants illegally or spent them in violation of Polish law - he emphasized.

13:25

Grabiec:

Obajtek Ordered Surveillance of Opposition MPs and Partially Paid for It with Taxpayer Money
- President Daniel Obajtek decided to surveil opposition MPs [...] Marcin Kierwiński, Robert Kropiwnicki, and Jan Grabiec, he commissioned surveillance activities from a detective agency and paid for these activities with funds from a public company, a company also owned by the State Treasury, so partly with the money of Polish taxpayers as well - said Jan Grabiec at a press conference. - This surveillance involved tailing, taking photos in private situations. During this time, there were also break-ins into premises of non-governmental organizations. We suspect this was related to the activities of this group financed by Orlen, by President Daniel Obajtek - he continued. - The aim was to find any materials that would allow discrediting MPs who, at that time, [...] were informing the public about irregularities occurring at Orlen - he went on to say. - As I understand it, this also constitutes a crime, and in this regard, the Prosecutor General has filed a motion to strip Mr. Daniel Obajtek of his immunity - he added.

13:27

Gliński on Hołownia's Words Regarding Withholding Romanowski's Salary:

From Hungary Too, He Can Fulfill His Mandate.

- When it comes to the democratic rights and civil rights, and the parliamentary rights of MP Romanowski, they are completely obvious. An MP is obligated to their voters to fulfill their mandate and does so as they see fit and as they believe they can best exercise this mandate in a situation of threat to democracy and the rule of law in Poland. Thus, an MP can fulfill their mandate from Hungary, and from any place in the world – stated Piotr Gliński at a press conference.

13:36

Constitutional Reset and Referendum on Presidential Election Day. Mentzen on Ideas Presented to Duda
"I presented to the President our proposals for a constitutional reset, meaning the election of new Supreme Court judges, Constitutional Tribunal judges, and members of the National Council of the Judiciary by a constitutional majority in the Sejm. This would force both sides, i.e., PiS and PO, to compromise and would allow us to end the ever-growing rule of law crisis in Poland. The President, Andrzej Duda, responded very kindly to this proposal, agreeing that it would help end the current anarchy" – wrote Sławomir Mentzen on X, summarizing yesterday's meeting with the President. "I also presented the idea of organizing a referendum on the day of the presidential elections, in which Poles could express their opinion on how to end the ongoing crisis" – he emphasized.

13:44

They Place Themselves Outside the Framework of European Law; Comparisons to Belarus and Russia Are Inevitable." Grabiec on Hungary
- If the Hungarian government has indeed decided to grant protection to a person sought under European regulations [...] Hungary's situation is difficult; they are placing themselves outside the framework of European law in this regard, and comparisons concerning the situation in Belarus or Russia are inevitable - said Jan Grabiec at a press conference. - Perhaps it is no coincidence that Mr. Romanowski was a colleague from the ministry of Mr. Szmydt; one requested asylum in Belarus, the other requested asylum in Hungary - he continued.

13:47

Grabiec:

I Expect Romanowski's Statements to Be Used by Moscow's Propaganda
- I expect Mr. Romanowski's statements to be used by Moscow's propaganda against Europe, against Poland; we can likely expect that in the near future - said Jan Grabiec at a press conference.

13:59

Grabiec:

PiS Has Gambled the Party's Entire Credibility. They Are Turning into a Committee to Defend Criminals
- This alarmist tone raised by PiS is understandable, because if the scope of these accusations were very broad, these accusations are confirmed by prosecutorial findings, and soon they will be confirmed by court rulings [...] they [...] acknowledge that this is the party's main line, the defense of criminals - said Jan Grabiec at a press conference. - Given that this is a very risky strategy, I am not surprised by this hysteria either, because they have indeed gambled the entire credibility of the party, which has been operating for over 20 years, whose politicians have held important state functions, and today they are turning into such a committee to defend criminals, even those who are fleeing the country from justice - he continued. - Frankly, I don't understand it; it's a very risky strategy for PiS - he went on to say.

What About Gdula's Resignation? Grabiec: No Conclusions Yet
- In the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, there are currently no conclusions regarding the resignation of any minister, apart from Minister Wieczorek - said Jan Grabiec at a press conference, when asked whether the resignation of the Deputy Minister of Science, Marcin Gdula, had occurred.

Kosiniak-Kamysz on Trump:

I Want Him to Come to Poland as Soon as Possible.

- I would like [Donald Trump] to come to Poland as soon as possible, right after taking office. We are in contact with the president's team, including those who will be responsible for shaping the plan for peace in Ukraine. The president has not yet been sworn in, so we are waiting for that moment, and I am optimistic. Poland meets the conditions that Mr. President Trump often expresses in his speeches, namely defense spending, and here we are an absolute leader with 4.7% of GDP – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference.

14:19

Kosiniak-Kamysz on Romanowski's stay in Hungary:

I'm surprised, the declarations were different.

- I'm surprised because the declarations made by those who ruled not so long ago were different; they said that innocent people have nothing to fear and will always cooperate and repeatedly declared cooperation with law enforcement agencies and the prosecution, and now they have not fulfilled that – said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference.

14:20

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

We will elevate Polish-Romanian relations to an even higher level

- We will continue this, these missions will of course be extended here in Romania. This is a result of the 2016 NATO summit, it is a very important synchronization of allied armies with each other, joint exercises, army compatibility, on this NATO's strength, our alliance's strength, is built. Romania is good in that we have almost the same equipment, these are very compatible armies, we will develop this, we will elevate Polish-Romanian relations to an even higher level, and in the area of security and armed forces, years of many exercises and many strategic decisions await us, tightening cooperation – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

Nawrocki in Lądek-Zdrój Appeals for Economic Patriotism:

Aid is Inadequate, and Allocation Mechanisms Take Too Long.

- Two weeks ago, I was here in Lądek-Zdrój, making a declaration, but also initiating a process of care for the apartment of the late Ms. Hanna, which today belongs to her daughters, Ms. Małgorzata, and also Mr. Krzysztof. Back then, we started these works, these works have been ongoing for 2 weeks, and today I came not only to extend wishes to two families but also, together with Ms. Małgorzata and Mr. Krzysztof, with engineers and architects, to examine the form of apartment arrangement and renovation - stated Karol Nawrocki at a press conference.

- There is one conclusion - this aid is on one hand inadequate to the needs of the residents, and on the other hand, the mechanisms for its allocation are taking too long. Today I also wanted to ask public questions, because in this cycle of thinking about Polish citizens, there are forecasts on one hand, speed of reaction on the other, and thirdly, those responsible for the Polish state have an obligation to think about what is coming. We are talking about people who live here, who will live here, and I would like to think about the Kłodzko Land in 2030 today - he continued.

- Therefore, I ask a public question, out of concern for the residents of Lądek-Zdrój and the entire Kłodzko County, whether anyone is asking themselves today what will happen in 2030, what the local economy and the tourism market will look like, and in this regard, I wanted to encourage all Poles, after a conversation with the mayor, who is an excellent local government official, who thinks about the residents, not about political struggle or rivalry, the mayor assured me that all hotel and tourist infrastructure in this spa part is untouched and ready to receive tourists, so let us all express economic patriotism throughout Poland - the candidate emphasized.

14:52

Nawrocki:

Let's First Address Polish Tenement Houses and the Fate of Poles, Then Solidarily Help Those in Need

- I would warn the Polish government, the Polish Prime Minister, against dealing with the affairs of another nation at a time when matters here, concerning Poles in Lądek-Zdrój, remain unresolved and when municipal communities, the owners of these tenement houses, are still awaiting financial aid from the Polish government. Let's first address Polish tenement houses and the fate of Polish citizens, and then let's solidarily help those who need our assistance - stated Karol Nawrocki at a press conference.

14:55

Nawrocki:

Onet is Trying to Convince Me I Should Take Leave on Sundays

- You can compare the truthfulness of Onet's reports with the dates that appear there. Dates appear there, for example, Sundays, on which Onet tries to convince its readers that I should take leave from the IPN on Sundays, in order to fulfill my role as a civic candidate for president. Onet's manipulation also concerns the situation, there are many examples, it refers to my visit to Bielsko-Biała, for instance. It does not mention that I dedicated the essential part of my day to observing and discussing the construction of the first military cemetery in Poland's history for soldiers of the anti-communist opposition in Kamesznica - stated Karol Nawrocki at a press conference.

14:57

Nawrocki Asked About Romanowski:

It's Not a Matter That Interests Me.

- I don't have any opinion on the matter of MP Marcin Romanowski. It's not a matter that interests me. It is the MP's matter, which is part of public debate, but a presidential candidate does not concern himself with such matters - stated Karol Nawrocki at a press conference.

16:05

Kosiniak-Kamysz on the Acquisition of Satellites for the WP:

An Extraordinary Achievement for the Polish Armed Forces.

- We have decided to build drone forces, a medical component, but also to develop capabilities in space. Operational, observational, in every dimension. The future belongs to this space, to operations in this space, to preparation for operations in this space – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference.

- Therefore, the agreement signed today concerning four satellites in the MikroGlob program becomes an extraordinary achievement for the Polish Armed Forces. An expansion of capabilities, an increase in operational readiness, and imaging, which is absolutely necessary for tactical and operational activities – he continued.

17:27

Nawrocki's Campaign on Onet Publication:

We Encourage Media to Also Scrutinize Trzaskowski's Activities.
Statement regarding the false article published on the Onet portal on 20.12.2024. Karol Nawrocki, a civic candidate for the President of the Republic of Poland, does not connect this activity with his role as President of the IPN. He clearly separates them, which he has stated multiple times. As a civic candidate for President, he participates in meetings and public events in his private time - it was written in a statement published by the spokesperson of Karol Nawrocki's campaign team. Karol Nawrocki is the only candidate who has declared taking a leave of absence for the duration of the campaign and has appealed for other candidates to make similar declarations. We encourage the media to, in the same manner they scrutinize the activities of the President of the IPN, also scrutinize the activities of the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, who, while holding his office, participates in various political events in many places across Poland - it was emphasized.

17:32

Hołownia After Meeting with Duda:

A Matter-of-Fact Meeting.

- I thank the President for a matter-of-fact meeting. I convinced the President that we are on the verge of potential legal and systemic chaos in a situation of external threat to the state. Every attempt to improve this situation is worth undertaking - wrote Szymon Hołownia on social media.

18:23

Trzaskowski on the Romanowski Affair:

Sounds Like a Story from Some African Banana Republic,
- This is perhaps the most outrageous story [the Marcin Romanowski affair] that PiS is telling us today, that PiS's presidential candidate, Mr. Nawrocki, who said he wouldn't say anything about it at all, that he's not interested in this story, is telling us or not telling us - Rafał Trzaskowski said in Pabianice. - This isn't about someone who embezzled two zlotys, it's not about someone who made some administrative error, this is about someone who defrauded millions, hundreds of millions of zlotys. Who stole hundreds of millions of zlotys in a criminal organization - he continued. - Mr. Romanowski was a minister in the Ministry of Justice. This is a story that probably has no precedent in Europe, because I don't know of a story where a deputy minister of justice defrauds hundreds of millions of zlotys, claims to be innocent, of course, that he will stand before justice, and then flees to another country and asks for asylum there - he went on. - It rather sounds like a story from some country in Africa in some banana republic, to offend no one, because certainly not in Europe - he added.

18:25

Trzaskowski:

Europe's Closest Friend of Putin Grants Asylum to Romanowski, and PiS Sees No Problem Whatsoever
- PiS politicians and policymakers are justifying it, saying it's great, fantastic, they are happy that Orban, who today is a proponent of Putin and his closest friend in Europe [...] is granting asylum to Mr. Romanowski, and PiS sees no problem whatsoever with this, they are simply absolving him - said Rafał Trzaskowski in Pabianice.

18:27

Trzaskowski Addresses Nawrocki:

How Can You Not Have an Opinion on Such a Fundamental Issue?
- Today, we need a president who will be fully independent. And independence means having one’s own opinion. So, how can you not have an opinion – I’m addressing you, Mr. Nawrocki – on such a fundamental issue [as the Marcin Romanowski case]? How can you say that this doesn’t interest anyone at all? – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Pabianice. - This is exactly the kind of president Poland needs: independent, who has an opinion and, like me, will clearly tell you about it – he emphasized.

18:34

Trzaskowski:

We Must Choose a President Who Has His Own Opinion, Not One Who Waits for Kaczyński's Word
- If we want a state with principles, where ethics are important, where politicians are guided by principles, then we must choose a president who will be the president of all Poles, not of one political party - said Rafał Trzaskowski in Pabianice. - We must choose a president who has his own opinion, who will not wait to hear what Jarosław Kaczyński says, or who will not comment on outrageous things because he is afraid of what PiS will say. These elections are about that today - he continued.

18:39

Trzaskowski on Declining Workplaces:

We Must Find a Way to Deal with Inequalities.
- There are significantly more of these towns, district towns [...] where these problems are appearing, these problems have been accumulating since the 1990s. This is because important workplaces [...] were workplaces that unfortunately collapsed. And no idea was later found on how to help these towns regain their economic functions, regain their dignity - said Rafał Trzaskowski in Pabianice. - Today, if we want to fight for an equal Poland, if we want to fight for a cohesive Poland, we must find a way to deal with these inequalities, so that never again in Poland can anyone say that these inequalities will be permanent - he continued.

18:46

Awakened and Talking About Economic Patriotism? Trzaskowski: The World Has Fundamentally Changed. The End of Naive Globalization
- Some are saying they've woken up and are talking about patriotism, about economic patriotism, about equality. Because the world has fundamentally, ladies and gentlemen, changed. The end of naive globalization. We are only seeing this now, after the pandemic, only in times of war, only at a moment when China is becoming much more assertive - said Rafał Trzaskowski in Pabianice. - We see that supply chains have broken down, we see that the fact that we, Europeans, Americans, have moved most of our industrial capacities to Asia, that this is not working out - he continued.

18:56

Trzaskowski:

The President's Role is to Inspire Government Action, or Take Matters into Their Own Hands When Necessary
- We can approach finding money for special schools systemically. To find money to solve a specific problem. Somewhere, as in Zduńska Wola, there's the issue of a heating pipeline, and again, this is a matter that can be solved systemically - said Rafał Trzaskowski in Pabianice. - It's not even about this intervention fund, which will be useful, but about the fact that this can create a map of inequalities, and the president can solve these types of problems, because the president's role is to inspire the government to act, but if that doesn't work, to take matters into their own hands and simply make a change, because we all voted for change and we all want this change - he continued.

18:58

Trzaskowski on his Candidacy: A President Rooted in Local Government, Walking the Streets Daily, Reachable by Hand
- What seemed normal a decade or so ago: 'made in China', no big deal [...] - today it turns out we have to rebuild industry, rebuild our entrepreneurship, strengthen our agriculture, because that is precisely security. And this is also linked to reducing inequalities and ensuring Poland is cohesive - said Rafał Trzaskowski in Pabianice. - I promise you, I guarantee that a president who comes from local government, from the authority that makes decisions closest to the citizens, who walks the streets of his city every day, can be grabbed by the hand, asked, held accountable... He doesn't hide, like others, in limousines, let alone those who hide in Budapest, because nowhere else do they want them - he continued. - This is my commitment, to focus on every city that has problems. To think together whether we are able to solve them, either systemically for everyone, or in this specific case - he went on.

19:06

Trzaskowski on Legislation Blocked by Duda:

Within a Month, I Will Sign All These Bills.
- We must take another step. In a sense, this is the second round. The system will close. Everything that Andrzej Duda is currently blocking, where our coalition partners are hiding behind the president's back and saying that the president will veto it anyway, we will not do that, we will be able to accelerate, deliver matters, immediately - said Rafał Trzaskowski in Pabianice. - All these matters that are currently unresolved and are being blocked, there must be a package of laws that will land on the president's desk, and I commit that within a month I will sign all these bills and we will make a quick change - he continued.

19:11

Trzaskowski:

We Should Be Proud of Our History and Traditions – But It's Not Enough. We Must Look Ahead
- Today, Poland needs a president who is constantly looking to the future. Does this mean we shouldn't be proud of our own tradition? We should be proud of our own tradition. Does this mean we shouldn't be proud of our own history? We should be proud of our own history – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Pabianice. - But that's not enough; constantly looking back isn't enough. It should be a source of inspiration, a source of pride, but if we want to solve problems, we must look ahead – he emphasized.

19:23

Trzaskowski Explains Patriotism and Mocks Nawrocki:

It's Not About Flexing Muscles.
- We will talk about patriotism because we do it. [...] There are many people in this country who talk about patriotism. Patriotism only consists of standing on the front line. Of being able to get things done, of being effective. It's not about flexing muscles - said Rafał Trzaskowski in Pabianice. - "Because I will be effective, a patriot, because I have muscles." Incidentally, no real fighter flexes their muscles; I haven't seen a good fighter who constantly poses for photos in gloves, just as I haven't seen a good diver who talks about how many meters they've dived - he continued. - It's also weak to constantly film yourself running with that stick; it's weak, really, believe me. Besides, it's hard to breathe when running in a crowd - he went on to say.

19:24

Trzaskowski to PiS Politicians: We Won't Cede Patriotism to You
- We've been considering this in every large city, Łódź, Warsaw, green cities. Okay, we have standards, we're fighting climate change, we need to secure billions from the EU [...] squeeze out as much money as possible. [...] What did PiS do? They agreed to everything, shouted, banged their fists on the table, and all the money from the EU is blocked - said Rafał Trzaskowski in Pabianice. - They're waking up today and saying: they talk about patriotism, surely we should be talking about patriotism. They are terrified. They thought we would hand over patriotism to them. We won't hand over patriotism to you, because patriotism is about effectiveness. It's about doing things, not just talking about them - he continued.

19:25

Trzaskowski:

Patriotism is Encapsulated in the Simple Slogan: 'All of Poland Forward!'
- If someone wants to be a patriot today, we need a patriotism of building. Not looking back, not being offended all the time, not dwelling on what was wrong. That can build us up, inspire us. Again – we need to look forward, to the future – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Pabianice. - Today, patriotism, you'll be surprised, is encapsulated in a very simple slogan: 'All of Poland Forward!' – he emphasized.

19:33

Domański on Romanowski:

He Cowardly Fled to Hungary.

- Criminals and those suspected of crimes have always fled, are fleeing, and will continue to flee. Some flee to Belarus, others, like MP Romanowski, flee to Hungary. This is quite undignified, absolutely contradictory to what he previously assured, that he would never hide from the Polish justice system, and now he has cowardly fled to Hungary – stated Andrzej Domański on TVN24’s „Fakty po faktach”.

19:33

Domański on the Justice Fund:

For Many PiS Politicians, This is a Very Clear Matter.
Everything connected with the Justice Fund, with this disgusting affair, and moreover, for many PiS politicians too, it's a very clear, very transparent matter that what was happening there was simply unacceptable - stated Andrzej Domański on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

19:38

Kosiniak-Kamysz on UPA Flags on Rosomak Transporters Delivered to Ukraine by Poland:

I Recommended Urgent Intervention.
"UPA flags on Rosomak armored transporters delivered by Poland to the Ukrainian army are a provocation that should not have happened. I have recommended an urgent intervention with the Ukrainian attaché in Warsaw to clarify the matter," wrote Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on X.

19:42

Domański:

8 Years of PiS Inaction Responsible for High Energy Prices

- The high energy prices are of course the responsibility of 8 years of inaction, complete inaction by PiS. These are the facts. It's worth mentioning them. These [changes] are already happening; the number of connections to renewable energy sources has drastically increased. We had the first month in Polish history when the share of hard coal in energy generation, which is a very expensive source at the moment, dropped below 50% - stated Andrzej Domański on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach" (Facts After Facts).

19:46

Domański:

We Received Information That We Can Forget About NBP Profit

- No, we received very clear information from the NBP here. This time, we received information that we can forget about NBP profit. The NBP generated a very high loss - stated Andrzej Domański on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

20:30

"Appointment of a New KRS": Bodnar Announces a Moment of Restoring the Rule of Law

- If a new National Council of the Judiciary is appointed, one that operates according to constitutional rules, meaning judges are appointed to the KRS by other judges, then this will be a moment of a kind of rebound. That is, a moment from which judges can be appointed normally, without any doubts regarding their appointment, and it will also be the moment from which the evaluation process for judges appointed after 2018 can be carried out – stated Adam Bodnar on Polsat News.

20:31

Bodnar Explains Romanowski's Escape to Hungary:

Nobody Could Have Predicted This.

Polish services are performing their duties, and nobody could have predicted that a citizen of the Republic of Poland would flee from justice, that they would simply turn off their phone and leave. There are no grounds to surveil, check, or conduct operational control on anyone before a decision on temporary arrest is made – Adam Bodnar said on Polsat News.

20:32

Bodnar Responds to Giertych:

I Think It's Comfortable to Comment on the Prosecutor's Office from an Armchair.

- I think Mr. Roman Giertych has various views on how the prosecutor's office operates. I think it's certainly interesting to comment on the prosecutor's actions while sitting comfortably in an armchair and not bearing daily responsibility for what is happening within the prosecutor's office – stated Adam Bodnar during the program "Guest of Events" on Polsat News.

- If someone talks about helplessness, I would like to say that for me, this so-called helplessness consists of the fact that in the case of the Justice Fund, within less than a year. Because the investigation seriously began at the beginning of February, it was possible to press charges against 23 people, an indictment is being prepared for 9 individuals, which will soon go to court, and 3 people are in temporary arrest – he continued.

20:33

Bodnar on Disappointment with the Pace of Accountability:

I See This Nibbling, But We Have Serious Matters Underway.

- This nibbling appears, I see it [from figures including Giertych and Wrzosek]. However, I believe that after this year, we have several very serious matters underway, sometimes we even have situations with first-instance convictions, which the media are reporting on, I'll remind you about Minister Niedzielski – stated Adam Bodnar on Polsat News.

- A lot is happening at Collegium Humanum, in NCBiR we have 63 people facing charges, at the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves, one gentleman brought from the Dominican Republic is currently in custody and is being questioned as a suspect, another gentleman is in custody in London and will be extradited based on a European Arrest Warrant – he continued.

20:33

Bodnar Issues an Important Appeal:

Yes, Romanowski Can Count on a Fair Trial.

- Yes, Mr. Marcin Romanowski can count on a fair trial, and the proof of this is that the decision to apply temporary arrest was issued by an independent court. Just as the decision to apply the European Arrest Warrant was - Adam Bodnar said in Polsat News.

20:34

Bodnar:

According to Tuesday's Sejm Resolution, Constitutional Tribunal Rulings Will Not Be Published

- What I think is most important for me in this context is the government's resolution, which was adopted this week. Specifically, according to this resolution adopted on Tuesday, the Constitutional Tribunal has lost its power to be a real constitutional court, and its rulings, its decisions, will not be published – stated Adam Bodnar on Polsat News.

20:34

Bodnar Sets Timeline for Adoption of Bill Separating Prosecutor General and Justice Minister Roles

- I think that right after the new year, the bill [on separating the functions of Prosecutor General and Minister of Justice] will be adopted as a Council of Ministers draft. I believe it will take a few more months – Adam Bodnar said on Polsat News.
