Political Week Ahead: Civic Coalition Primaries, Health Contribution Debate, Weimar Triangle+ Summit, and Sejm's Agenda

The most significant political event of the week will be the Civic Coalition primaries – the largest coalition party will decide who will represent them in next year's presidential elections. This week also features a four-day session of the Sejm and a Senate session. Meanwhile, the government will address, among other things, further changes to the health contribution.

Government on Health Contribution. At its Tuesday session, the Council of Ministers will adopt an amendment to the government's bill, already in the Sejm, concerning changes to the health contribution. As announced on TVN24 by Andrzej Domański, the next step will be to lower the minimum health contribution, which is currently paid from a base of 100% of the minimum wage. "We will reduce this to 75%" declared the Minister of Finance.

Hearings by the Investigative Committee. The Pegasus investigative committee will hear from Judge Beata Morawiec and former head of SKW, Andrzej Kowalski, this week.

Sejm on the Election of an RMN Member. A four-day Sejm session is scheduled for this week. During its proceedings, MPs will elect, among others, a member of the National Media Council to replace Krzysztof Czabański. The parliamentary majority's candidate for this position is Wojciech Król.

Sejm on Citizen Initiatives. This week's Sejm session will also include the first readings of two citizen initiatives – one concerning the obligation of public authorities to implement the Central Communication Port investment, and another related to animal protection.

Senate on Budget Amendment. At its two-day session, commencing on Wednesday, the upper house will address, among other things, the amendment to the 2024 budget law along with its implementing provisions.

Investigative Committee Report. On Friday, the final day of deliberations, the Sejm will hear the report of the investigative committee tasked with examining the legality, correctness, and expediency of actions taken to prepare and conduct the presidential elections of the Republic of Poland in 2020 through postal voting.

Duda in Jordan. On Tuesday, President Andrzej Duda will pay an official visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The agenda includes, among other things, "one-on-one" talks with the King and the Prime Minister, a visit to the King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Center, and a briefing for the Polish media.

Weimar Triangle+. As announced by Radosław Sikorski, a Weimar Triangle+ meeting will take place this week. "I have convened a Weimar Triangle+ meeting for next week, to which the incoming new High Representative intends to come, at least that's what she told me today," said the Minister of Foreign Affairs on Polsat News.

Civic Coalition Primaries. Civic Coalition primaries will be held on Friday – their results are expected to be announced the following day, on Saturday. Rafał Trzaskowski and Radosław Sikorski are vying for the presidential nomination.
