Thursday's Political Agenda: Kaczyński's Press Conference

At 12:30 PM, a press conference will be held by PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński, Katarzyna Sójka, and Andrzej Kosztowniak.

08:20

Sasin on the Commission for Investigating Russian Influence:

A Gang of Thugs Tasked with Proving a False Thesis.
This entire commission [for investigating Russian influence] is not a commission at all, it's a gang of thugs tasked with proving a thesis that is false from the outset - stated Jacek Sasin on PR3.

Hołownia as Third Way's Common Candidate? Kobosko: I Think Yesterday Confirmed the Agreement
- It's not bad, nor will it be bad [in the Third Way]. This photo didn't surprise me. I know that the gentlemen [Szymon Hołownia and Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz] meet very regularly and talk to each other. […] They know each other well, they understand each other well - said Michał Kobosko in Polsat News' “Graffiti”. In this way, the Member of the European Parliament for Poland 2050 referred to a photograph from yesterday's meeting of the Third Way leaders, published by Kosiniak-Kamysz. - The leaders of the PSL, including the Prime Minister, but also Marshal Zgorzelski, have repeatedly spoken about the fact that Marshal Hołownia will be the common candidate of the Third Way if he decides to run in the presidential race. […] I believe we are sticking to that. When I look at the mood of this photo, […] then I think that yesterday only confirmed such an agreement - he assessed.

08:27

Sasin:

Now is the Time for Macierewicz
Now is the time for Antoni Macierewicz, because before it was the time for other politicians, one by one as if we are to be grilled in different areas. Now the assignment is for Antoni Macierewicz, and therefore the concentration of these actions. It's a PR scenario spread out over time - stated Jacek Sasin on PR3.

08:27

Sasin:

Bills Skyrocket, Inflation Crushes Poles, Distraction is Necessary

- This team is demonstrably failing to govern Poland, and that is completely obvious. A budget deficit of over PLN 200 billion this year, and PLN 300 billion next year, alarmingly growing, half a trillion in two years increasing Poland's debt, bills skyrocketing, inflation crushing Poles, and therefore, distraction is needed - stated Jacek Sasin on PR3.

08:35

Sasin on PiS's Presidential Candidate:

This Moment is Approaching by Leaps and Bounds.

- Just a little more patience. This moment is approaching by leaps and bounds, when we will present this candidate. There is a discussion, it is ongoing. There are two concepts, one might say, of candidacy, but we are close to defining who this candidate will be - stated Jacek Sasin on PR3.

08:38

Kobosko:

Czarzasty's Party is Treated Like Former PZPR, Liberals, We Don't Really Know What. And Razem is the Real Left
- We have seen a very serious weakening of the Left in recent days, because the Razem party - in line with its name - is always separate and now it is very separate. Some people, as I also talk to them on the streets, stop me and say: "What has happened to this Left, that the real left has just left the coalition?" Because that's how the Razem party is treated - said Michał Kobosko in "Graffiti" on Polsat News. As he stated: - The party led by Marshal Czarzasty is not entirely treated as a left-wing party, but more like the former PZPR, perhaps some social democrats, some liberals, we don't really know what. And Zandberg's party was and is treated quite extremely, but [as] a left-wing party. Today, it is not in our coalition and it is not in the Left club.

08:52

Kobosko:

I'm Not Convinced PSL Politicians Would Support Czarzasty's Candidacy for Sejm Marshal
- This [coalition] agreement includes a provision stating that halfway through the term, meaning in November next year, there will be a change in the Marshal's seat. And as of today, this provision is binding - said Michał Kobosko on Polsat News' "Graffiti". "Many things can change over this year - including the provisions of the coalition agreement" - I may not have been in Polish politics for very long, only 5 years, but already many things have changed from day to day, and things can also change over the course of this year - the provisions of the coalition agreement can also change. […] I'm not prejudging anything, I'm not participating in the direct talks between our group leaders, but I can imagine such a scenario - he stated. As he noted: - It's not as simple as Szymon Hołownia handing over his position to Marshal Czarzasty; it must be put to a vote, and a majority is required. PSL won't support Czarzasty's candidacy? "I'm not convinced..." - As of today, after almost a year of operating within the coalition, after many actions by Lewica, including towards us: both Polski 2050 and PSL, I do not have the conviction that today, particularly PSL politicians […] would enthusiastically support Marshal Czarzasty's candidacy for the position of Sejm Marshal - he emphasized.

09:04

Kobosko Skeptical About a Christmas Eve Free from Work:

We Must Prepare for Harder Times.
- We need to seriously consider this. My colleague Ryszard Petru [...] said something that should make us think. That is, if Christmas Eve is okay, then perhaps we should give up some other day, which is currently a holiday but doesn't necessarily have to be? - said Michał Kobosko on Polsat News' "Graffiti." - In general, we have quite a lot of holidays in Poland. And it's not the case that we can freely give each other gifts today, because it's harder than it was, and we simply need to prepare for harder times and think a bit more proactively - he assessed.

09:07

Macierewicz on Gen. Stróżyk and the Accusation of Diplomatic Treason:

He Knew He Was Lying, Deceiving, Talking Nonsense.
- I am very interested in this, and in a sense, I think the general's actions have a deeper meaning, meaning that he, knowing that he was lying, that he was deceiving, that this was disinformation, wants us to go back to that time and to analyze our actions, including mine, in the years 2015-2018 regarding the rebuilding of the Polish army's strength - said Antoni Macierewicz in an interview with Krzysztof Skowroński on "Poranek Wnet," when asked what he thought when Gen. Stróżyk spoke of diplomatic treason.

- First of all, achieving something that was, in a sense, a miracle [...] that we managed to forge an alliance with the United States, so that the United States would keep its army in Poland all the time, when we need it - he continued.

- I think that this general [...] he knew he was talking nonsense - he went on to say.

09:21

Macierewicz:

I Don't Know Why Only One Russian Is Mentioned. Many More Came to Me with Evidence of Russian Crime
- I really don't know why only one Russian is being talked about. [...] Many more Russians have come to me, both to the Ministry of National Defence and to my parliamentary office, bringing documentary evidence showing Russian crime - stated Antoni Macierewicz on Radio Wnet. - What was done recently in the case of this gentleman [...] is exactly the same as what was ordered to the Polish intelligence [...] probably on April 19, 2010. An order was given to the intelligence at that time that if Russians reporting on Russian crime approached the intelligence services, the names of these individuals should be handed over to the Russian special services - he continued. - This is what was done to this man now. It is truly a crime and it is simply unacceptable for a person who brought evidence of Russian crime and atrocity to have his name publicly disclosed to the Russian side - he went on to say. - Russian pilots also came to me, who shared their assessment of what really happened there, all stating that it was an assassination attempt - he added.

09:30

Pełczyńska-Nałęcz on Tomczak's Resignation:

The Final End of Bad 0% Credit Policy.

- For me, the key takeaway is that the departure of Mr. Minister [Tomczak], but above all, this entire discussion that has ensued around it, ultimately marks the end of a bad project, a bad 0% credit policy, and opens wider doors for good housing policy, for social housing construction, greater availability of land for construction, and a series of other good solutions – stated Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on "Gość Radia ZET".

- I hope this will be the case [Tomczak's resignation means the end of 0% credit], that's what I would strongly advocate for, that's what I would want, that's what I stand for: no to 0% credit, yes to other good solutions – she added.

- We will not vote for such a legal solution [0% credit], but we will very gladly agree to greater support for social housing construction – she emphasized.

09:34

Pełczyńska-Nałęcz on Kosiniak-Kamysz's statement regarding a single candidate:

This view finds no support anywhere.

- What the chairman [of PSL] had in mind is, of course, a question for the chairman, but the decision. I believe Szymon Hołownia would be the best candidate and the best president. The decision on whether and when he wants to announce this belongs to him and he should be the one to do it — Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz said on Radio Zet.

- I understand that this finds no support anywhere [Kosiniak-Kamysz's statement regarding a single coalition candidate], so there's really no topic - she added.

09:37

Pełczyńska-Nałęcz:

The Macierewicz Case Should Be Investigated by the Prosecutor's Office as Soon as Possible

- I believe that the prosecutor's office should decide on this matter [Antoni Macierewicz and diplomatic treason] as soon as possible. It is not for ministers to issue judgments, which is why we are fighting for free courts and the rule of law, so that judgments are not made by them. However, there are many very disturbing situations surrounding the former minister – stated Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz on Radio ZET.

13:00

Kaczyński Announces No-Confidence Vote Against Leszczyna

- We will submit such a [no-confidence vote against Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna]. At the next Sejm session. Which means it will have to be considered either at the next or the one after that - Jarosław Kaczyński said during a press conference.

- This is an attempt to shift responsibility onto various entities, onto entire communities, it's an attempt to sow discord. It makes no sense. We need a health minister who will have a real plan, who will also be able to fight within their own government to ensure that healthcare receives at least what is most needed, even if it's just these PLN 15 billion for district hospitals - he continued.

13:03

"Smaller Coalition Entities Will Have an Opportunity to Emphasize Their Distinctiveness'. Kaczyński on the Motion of No Confidence

- The motion [of no confidence in the Minister of Health] will also be a kind of test for the coalition. It is known that the basis of the coalition is Civic Coalition, but there are these smaller entities. They often want to emphasize their distinctiveness, their sometimes different opinion. They will have opportunities to do so - said Jarosław Kaczyński during a press conference.

13:19

Kaczyński on Smolensk:

It Was an Assassination. Who Organized and Carried It Out Is a Matter to Be Clarified.
- It was an assassination. Who precisely organized it, whose intention it was, and subsequently whose execution it was, that is a matter to be clarified through a different process. I only hope that a time will come when those who did all of this will indeed be brought before justice - stated Jarosław Kaczyński at a press conference.

13:21

Kaczyński Hints at the Date for PiS Candidate Presentation:

Investigations are underway at this moment.

- I don't know if we have a dark horse or perhaps a white one. Investigations are underway at this moment. I believe that in the second half of November we will be able to satisfy your curiosity. Yes, [Przemysław Czarnek is] being considered - said Jarosław Kaczyński during a press conference.

13:35

Czarnek as PiS presidential candidate? Kaczyński: The question is whether he can win in the second round
- This is not a question of our assessment of individual politicians or non-politicians, because among these candidates there are also people who are not politicians and are not closely associated with us in any way regarding their purely political qualities - Jarosław Kaczyński said at a press conference. - I highly value Professor [Przemysław Czarnek]. An exceptionally talented man. I think he has a great future. Only there is this question, whether he is capable of winning, especially in the second round of the elections, that's what counts. And we want to answer this question with these extensive studies right now, not the question of who is prettier, bigger, more eloquent - he continued. - In reality, it's only about one thing, about victory in these elections, and here, regarding various personal qualities, both the Professor and other candidates truly have very many, only the question is who here is the one who has the greatest chances. We don't know that yet at this moment - he went on to say.

14:03

Hołownia Comments on the Russian Influence Commission Report:

I Expect More.

- Perhaps I will break away a bit from the chorus commenting on this report; I expect more. I expect more from this commission because we have been given certain cases, we have received information about certain events – said Szymon Hołownia in Super Express.

- I realize [that this is the first act], which is why I say, I am not criticizing, I am just saying: I expect more in subsequent acts. Because the commission was established to uncover the system. If Russians are active here, and if they are active in the United States, I understand they are also active in Poland, so I would like to see the system according to which they operate – he added.

14:04

Hołownia on Kosiniak-Kamysz's Words About a Single Candidate:

I Was Surprised, for Me, a Word is Sacred.
He told me about this [Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz] in a tone that I would, however, be saying something like that. However, I admit that I was surprised. I understand that we agreed on something, meaning, if we agreed on a TD candidate and a common candidate, no other names were mentioned besides mine, and not because I am so wonderful, but because that's what we agreed on, and for me, a word is sacred – stated Szymon Hołownia in the program "Express Biedrzyckiej" on Super Express. They decided as they decided. They decided to play their own game a bit more and focus more on the PSL. I spoke with Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz yesterday, he said that they also have their own regulations and mandates within the PSL, and the PSL also needs to exist on this entire stage in these elections in a very specific way – he continued. Hołownia: I Want to Continue the TD Project, But Not at All Costs Yes, I want to [continue the TD project], but not at all costs, that is one and the fundamental thing that must be clearly laid on the table – he added.

15:51

Bodnar Requests Lifting of Braun's Immunity: "Suspicion of Committing 7 Crimes"
- Prosecutor General Adam Bodnar has forwarded a request to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, seeking consent to prosecute Grzegorz Braun, a Member of the European Parliament - the National Public Prosecutor's Office announced in a statement. - In the preparatory proceedings supervised by the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw [...] evidence has been gathered sufficiently justifying the suspicion that Grzegorz Braun committed 7 crimes - the statement reads. Braun is suspected, among other things, of violating the physical integrity and insulting the Director of the National Institute of Cardiology, damaging a Christmas tree belonging to the Polish Judges Association "Iustitia," and damaging equipment to the detriment of the German Historical Institute. The politician is also suspected of publicly insulting a group of people on the grounds of their religious affiliation on the premises of the Sejm, and of violating the physical integrity of a person intervening to protect public order, causing them minor bodily harm.

17:59

Tusk:

Morawiecki is Finally Starting to Grasp What "Red is Bad" Means

Prime Minister Morawiecki is finally starting to grasp what "Red is bad" means. And for whom – wrote Prime Minister Donald Tusk on social media.

18:32

Trzaskowski:

Security is a matter of crisis resilience – I've been professionally involved with it in recent years
- When it comes to security, it is primarily a matter of crisis resilience. I have been professionally involved with this in recent years because I dealt with managing the pandemic, and during very difficult times, when PiS left us practically with this problem - said Rafał Trzaskowski in an interview with Andrzej Morozowski on TVN24's "Tak jest". - We dealt with refugees from Ukraine. And again, the government left us to our own devices. I would like to remind you that I have been involved in foreign policy and European policy practically my whole life. I was a Minister for European Affairs, a Member of the European Parliament - he continued.

18:40

Trzaskowski:

This Presidency Will Be the Culmination of Strengthening Democracy
- This presidency is of absolutely fundamental importance for all of us, for the entire democratic side, because in a sense, it will be the culmination of strengthening democracy - said Rafał Trzaskowski on TVN24's "Tak jest". - I think everyone on our side should care about whoever makes it to the second round from the democratic camp, winning these elections. So I'm counting on it being exactly as Donald Tusk forecasts or declares from our side, that whoever reaches the second round should be supported by everyone. And I believe we are mature enough for that to happen exactly so - he continued.

18:52

Trzaskowski on a Positive Campaign:

We Will Increase the Chances of a Democratic Candidate Winning.
- We are mature enough to talk about our preferences, our programs, which can differ, but without attacking each other. There is actually a lot that connects us, most of us, hence the governing coalition, but there are many things on which we have different opinions: us, or the PSL, or even Lewica - said Rafał Trzaskowski in the program "Tak jest" on TVN24. - I believe that if we conduct a positive campaign, each of these parties' candidates, we will increase the chances of a candidate from a democratic party winning - he indicated.

18:58

Trzaskowski:

The most important thing is a democratic president – one who cooperates, but also firmly says 'no' at times
- I think that if today you were to ask either Kosiniak-Kamysz, or Hołownia, or the leaders of The Left, and certainly us, what is most important, then the most important thing is to have a democratic president who will cooperate with the government, who will also firmly say 'no' at times if the government makes mistakes, and who will be the president of all Polish women and men, and not, as Andrzej Duda is today, the president of only one political option. And most importantly – an independent president – said Rafał Trzaskowski on TVN24's "Tak jest".

20:02

Sasin on PiS Candidate Selection:

A Group Smaller Than 5 People.

- There aren't too many left at this moment [among those being considered for the PiS candidate], because this group has narrowed down. It's smaller than 5 people - stated Jacek Sasin on TVN24's "Kropka nad i".

20:05

Sasin on the presentation of PiS's candidate:

It could be in November, but we're not tying ourselves to any specific date.

- He [Mateusz Morawiecki] is not in this group that is, one might say, being selected today. He's still somewhere in the discussions, one could say, but we haven't made a decision yet. We still have a little time, because we already know it won't be November 11th. But I think we'll manage to announce it in November - stated Jacek Sasin on TVN24's "Kropka nad i".

- I think it could be in November, but we're also not tying ourselves to any specific date - he continued.

20:18

WSI's Revenge on Macierewicz. Sasin on the Commission Investigating Russian Influence

- I would call this commission WSI's revenge on Antoni Macierewicz for the liquidation of that service. Because today, when I listen to Gen. Stróżyk, who is, one could say, slandering Macierewicz and our government with completely unserious accusations... - stated Jacek Sasin on TVN24's "Kropka nad i" (The Icing on the Cake).

- People completely unconnected with PiS, such as Mr. Jurasz, who is an expert on international affairs, a diplomat, and an Onet columnist, have pointed out the unseriousness of the accusations that Mr. Stróżyk has formulated - he continued.

20:24

Sikorski on the Qualities of the Future President:

We Need More National Accord, Not Less.

- I will abstain from answering here, I am reading about it in the media domain. Of course, I believe that in these times of war, Poland should have a president who has experience in international security, but also the ability to unite Poles of both liberal and conservative sensibilities. Because we need more national accord, not less - stated Radosław Sikorski in a conversation with journalists.
