Political Week Ahead: Crisis Staff Meetings, Sejm on Floods, PiS Convention, Duda in the USA

It can be assumed that this week will also be dominated by the effects of the floods – further crisis staff meetings are scheduled to take place in the coming days. Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz has announced an aid package that is to be considered at the next government and subsequently Sejm session. This week also includes President Duda's visit to the USA, and at the end of the week – the PiS convention announced by party leader Jarosław Kaczyński.

Crisis Staffs. In the coming week, further meetings of crisis staffs will be held with the participation of the most important state officials. Furthermore, as announced by Prime Minister Donald Tusk over the weekend, each subsequent government meeting in the coming weeks and months will begin with a briefing of ministers on the topic of floods.

Sejm on the Aid Package. The agenda for the three-day Sejm session, commencing on Wednesday, does not currently include heavily politicized items, but everything indicates that the floods will dominate the proceedings at Wiejska Street. Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz announced parliamentary work on a package of aid laws a few days ago.

Senate on KRS Activities. The upper house will convene on Wednesday and Thursday for a two-day session. Senators will hear information on the activities of the National Council of the Judiciary in 2023, as well as Poland's participation in EU work during the Belgian presidency.

Duda in the USA. Over the weekend, the Presidential Couple began their visit to the USA, during which the President will participate in the general debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

PiS Convention. Jarosław Kaczyński confirmed at one of his recent press conferences that the PiS congress will be held on Saturday. "Since there is no connection that could establish that holding our congress would in any way limit the possibility of aid for flood victims," said the leader of the largest opposition party.
