Mentzen on Czarnecki:

A Plot Twist

- On the one hand, it is obvious that all criminals, all members of the previous ruling party who broke the law, defrauded money, and committed various iniquities, must be held accountable. On the other hand, I wish for all of this to be done in accordance with the law and with as little political theater as possible. Personally, I am against pre-trial detention; punishment should be meted out by a court, and at this moment, the punishment is a public arrest at the airport or dragging someone out of their home at 6 AM and transporting them across Poland - stated Sławomir Mentzen in an interview with Marcin Fijołek on Polsat News' "Graffiti".

- I am also surprised that the authorities allow themselves such actions. After all, on Monday, we had an article in "Gazeta Wyborcza", and 3 days later, Ryszard Czarnecki is arrested, detained. It's hard to believe this is a coincidence. I believe he could have simply been summoned for questioning and would have revealed the same information; there was no need to create such a spectacle. However, it is very good that all individuals who did things like Czarnecki are being held accountable - he continued.

As he said: - It seems that both he and his entourage were surprised by this action because they expected to be detained for mileage expenses rather than for Collegium Humanum. So, it was a plot twist in this situation.

Mentzen Responds to Kaczyński:

During PiS Rule, We Were Blocked from Appearing on TVP, Where Lewica Was Often Invited.

- As far as I understand it, Jarosław Kaczyński has suddenly developed some sympathy for Konfederacja, felt a spiritual or ideological connection with us. I perfectly remember the times when PiS was in power, when we were completely blocked from appearing on TVP, where Lewica was very often invited, so back then Kaczyński was closer to Lewica than to Konfederacja, thus a point of view depends on the point of sitting - stated Sławomir Mentzen on Polsat News’s “Graffiti”.

08:39

Mentzen on Kaczyński:

I’m glad he revised his views.

- Jarosław Kaczyński fought against us for the last few years, kicked us off television, accused us of being Russian agents. I am very glad that he has revised these views - stated Sławomir Mentzen on Polsat News’s “Graffiti”.

08:43

Mentzen on the Presidency:

The Fuse

At this moment, President Duda is the only fuse for Donald Tusk. Donald Tusk has not yet thought of declaring that vetoes are also non-existent. However, we have no idea who will be in power in 3 years. If PO continues to behave in this manner, there is a risk of a repeat of PiS rule, and then, in turn, it would be beneficial for the president to be from a different camp than PiS, to act as a fuse for their actions - stated Sławomir Mentzen in "Graffiti" Polsat News.

08:47

Bogucki on Klich's Candidacy for Ambassador to the USA:

The Worst Possible Solution.
- This is the worst possible solution, if today the candidate for president is the former President of the United States, Donald Trump, and Klich was spouting nonsense that he is an unserious politician or an irresponsible politician, then how is he supposed to cooperate with a possible future candidate [US President], his administration - said Zbigniew Bogucki in an interview with Renata Grochal in "Bez Uników!" on Trójka. - This is a mockery of international politics, and at best Klich can be the head of this mission today, because there is no consent from the President's office - he continued.

08:53

Żukowska:

This is the end of Czarnecki's political career – and good, because he achieved nothing of merit
- It's a good thing that he was suspended [Ryszard Czarnecki from PiS membership rights], although in my opinion, it's too late. After all, there were earlier charges from the European Public Prosecutor's Office, OLAF, and this proceeding [concerning mileage allowances] has been ongoing for many years - Anna Maria Żukowska said in an interview with Mariusz Piekarski on TVP Info's "Gość Poranka". - These were also alarm bells that there is indeed something wrong with this man: he earns a lot of money as a Member of the European Parliament and does various other strange things to snatch more cash, […] not just from the EU - she stated. - He decided to mediate in illegal activities, corrupt activities, and for that reason, charges have been brought against him. I think this ends his political career. [...] And it's good that it ends, because he truly achieved nothing of merit and did not inscribe himself in the annals of history with anything great, serious, anything for Poland. I mainly associate him with servility - she assessed.

08:54

Bogucki on Czarnecki:

If He's Convicted by a Final Verdict, Such People Have Never Had a Place in PiS.
- If [Ryszard Czarnecki] is convicted for these actions [...] by a final verdict of an impartial and independent court, then such people have never had a place in Law and Justice - stated Zbigniew Bogucki on Trójka.

08:58

Bogucki on Germany's decision regarding border controls:

No one counts with Tusk, he's meant to follow orders.
- This German action [border controls] is a unilateral action, no one counts with Mr. Donald Tusk - said Zbigniew Bogucki on Trójka.

- Germany does what it wants [...] he can do nothing [...] no one counts with Donald Tusk [...] he is meant to follow certain orders - he continued.

09:04

Bogucki:

What Bodnar and Tusk have devised is a violation of all democratic foundations
- These judges, it concerns about 3,000 individuals who have completed law studies, undergone the appropriate traineeship, been sworn in by the president, and followed the procedure or path that is binding in Poland, in accordance with Polish law, are simply judges. There are no neo-judges, there are no substitute judges – stated Zbigniew Bogucki on Trójka. - What Bodnar and Tusk have devised is a violation of all democratic foundations, meaning a breach of judicial independence, because if a judge is not a judge according to them, and only becomes one after humbling themselves before a politician, and that is the condition for becoming a judge, then we are talking about the judiciary and judges being simply kept on a short leash held by the government – he continued.

09:07

Bogucki on the Fundraising for PiS:

We're Already Over 6 Million.
- We're already over 6 million, yesterday it was probably [...] 6 million 400 thousand, if I remember correctly - said Zbigniew Bogucki on Trójka, when asked about the fundraising for PiS.

09:09

Żukowska on the Constitutional Tribunal Act:

I hope the President will indeed extend a hand to rebuild democracy.
- I hope that the President will indeed extend a hand to rebuild democracy. I am not religious, so I don't believe in miracles, but I always hope that people can change - said Anna Maria Żukowska on "Gość Poranka" (Guest of the Morning) on TVP Info. - I am counting on him to consider this act [regarding the Constitutional Tribunal] and that he will indeed have a moment of reflection. If not, we will resubmit this act after the election of, I hope, a new president from the ranks of the October 15 coalition - she added.

09:20

Żukowska on the Selection of New Constitutional Tribunal Judges:

We Are Still Discussing Within the Coalition.
- If they are legally elected judges, then they can be chosen, but we are still discussing this within the coalition, because I hear various voices, including from Marshal Hołownia, who is not in favour of this solution - said Anna Maria Żukowska on TVP Info's "Gość Poranka". - The Neo-KRS is also tainted, and yet we elected, for example, myself, so that's not an argument. We are in the KRS precisely to keep an eye on those who found their way there illegally, meaning judges elected not by judges, but by the parliamentary majority, i.e., the PiS club. Perhaps a person who would be such a fighter would also be useful in the Constitutional Tribunal - she assessed.

09:20

Tusk:

Today there is no reason to anticipate events on a scale that would cause a threat across the entire country
- I would like to say right away - these forecasts, which we also discussed with forecasters, these forecasts are not excessively alarming. Of course, we do not underestimate any signal, we have our experiences, here in Wrocław from 1997. I remember perfectly the year 2010 and the floods, so it's known that one cannot underestimate the situation, but I want to say that today there is no reason to anticipate events on any scale that would cause a threat across the entire country. If we can expect anything, and we want to be prepared for it, it is, of course, local flooding or so-called flash floods - stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference in Wrocław.

09:23

Tusk after meeting with services:

We are incomparably better prepared than in previous years.

- We are prepared, I'm speaking about state services, I also wanted to thank the Territorial Defence Force (WOT), the Polish Army (WP), we are in constant contact with Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz and the commanders. Of course, the Fire Service, the police, officials responsible for emergency situations - everyone is fully available, very focused - said Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference in Wrocław.

- From each voivodeship and from each of the services, I received reports, they show that we are also well prepared materially for potential events. The numbers themselves speak about the scale of preparations and that we are incomparably better prepared than in previous years - he continued.

09:25

Tusk:

No Reason to Panic Today

- There is no reason to panic today; there is a reason to be fully mobilized so that in places where some drama might occur, everyone can count on the quickest and most effective assistance possible – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference in Wrocław.

09:34

Tusk:

Expect Intensified Aid for Ukraine

- I would not attach excessive importance to President Putin's recent declarations or statements in terms of generating any threats. They are rather a testament to the difficult situation of the Russians on the front, and it is obvious, especially after the information that Russia has been equipped with missiles from their allies, this time there was talk of 200 missiles supplied by Iran, it is entirely understandable that Ukraine cannot remain helpless and defenseless against the growing threat from the air, from Russia, and of course, in the interest of the West and Poland, in this sense, I would turn this question around - in the interest of Poland, our security, it is important that Ukraine is as well-equipped as possible during this war and can most effectively guard Ukrainian skies - stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference in Wrocław.

- I must say [after the talks] that Western solidarity on this issue is increasingly impressive, and one should expect intensified aid for Ukraine from our allies, from the entire Western world. Let's treat Putin's words as an attempt to discourage the West from providing such aid, and I don't think we should draw any more dramatic conclusions from them - he continued.

09:35

Żukowska:

We Will Not Agree to Abolish Term Limits in Local Government
- This was actually one of the few good changes introduced by PiS, because local governments have been entrenched for years, and now the second term of those who would not be able to run again would be expiring. There are many local government officials, mayors, and also presidents, who have indeed had many terms behind them, and this entrenches the system - said Anna Maria Żukowska in "Gość Poranka" on TVP Info. Asked if Lewica would agree to abolish term limits in local government, as recently proposed by Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, she replied: - No, we will not agree to that. This is not a government bill. […] Every political party can put forward its own ideas. This is not in the coalition agreement.

09:52

Błaszczak Announces Solutions:

We Are Dealing with a National Disarmament Program for Poland.
- Today, we are dealing with a national program to disarm Poland. This happened again under the first Tusk government, it concerned the liquidation of military units, now they have returned to this again, the same people who ruled then are in power - said Mariusz Błaszczak at a press conference. As examples, the former Minister of National Defence pointed to, among others, threatened contracts for military equipment and a lack of positions for soldiers after voluntary military service. - Within a month, we will prepare a conference where we will present a diagnosis and also propose solutions aimed at preventing this bad situation, because the achievements of Law and Justice, the achievements related to strengthening the Polish Army, are under threat - he continued. - The government of the December 13 coalition does not want to, and cannot, continue the processes that strengthened the Polish Army. Putin rejoices in this. Yes, champagne is being opened in the Kremlin - he went on to say.

Pełczyńska-Nałęcz Signs Further KPO Payment Applications:

Our Goal is PLN 40 Billion for Christmas.
- We've got it! It was supposed to be PLN 30 billion, but we've applied for PLN 40 billion from the KPO! I have just signed two more payment applications simultaneously - Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz announced on social media. - We managed to finalize all 41 investments and reforms. That's why we expect the maximum payout. We have a clear goal ahead of us: PLN 40 billion from these applications in Poland for Christmas - emphasized the Minister of Funds and Regional Policy.

13:11

Senate Amendments to the Constitutional Tribunal Act: Sejm Decides

The Sejm has adopted most of the Senate's amendments concerning the Constitutional Tribunal Act, including an amendment allowing a judge to take an oath in written form, signed and notarized, and submit it to the Marshal of the Sejm. A judge will have this option when the President, for any reason, does not enable them to take the solemn oath within 14 days of their election. The document containing the judge's oath, with their notarized signature, is to be immediately forwarded by the Marshal of the Sejm to the President of the Constitutional Tribunal.

Most of the remaining amendments were editorial or technical in nature.

13:27

"An Extended Hand": Hołownia Appeals to Duda Regarding the Constitutional Tribunal

- Hence my appeal to President [Duda] to sign this bill, because it is an extended hand from the parliament to the President. In the direction of us jointly resolving the crisis surrounding the Constitutional Tribunal. Today, we all see how deep this crisis is, and the draft of this bill is simply, I mean, this bill is simply good - stated Szymon Hołownia at a press conference in the Sejm.

15:13

Kaczyński on Czarnecki's Suspension:

We came to the conclusion that there are indeed some matters to clarify.
- There was a party presidium, we came to the conclusion that there are indeed some matters to clarify - Jarosław Kaczyński said in a conversation with journalists, when asked about the decision to suspend Ryszard Czarnecki in PiS.

- I'm very sorry, but did I promote him? - he continued, when asked if he regretted promoting Czarnecki.

- Because he was indeed a very effective MEP - he added, reacting to the suggestion that he had said in the past that he supported Czarnecki.

15:19

Kaczyński on Czarnecki:

His Connections to This University Are a Complete Surprise to Me.
- I don't know anything more about it; for me, his [Ryszard Czarnecki's] connections to this university are a complete surprise - Jarosław Kaczyński told journalists.

- I don't follow such matters on a daily basis; I know he was very active, mainly he liked traveling the world, and I know he ate a lot - he continued.

- I didn't know his whole life, although I don't deny that I knew him - he added.

15:23

NBP Files Criminal Complaint Against Hołownia and Others

The National Bank of Poland (NBP) has filed a report with the prosecutor's office against the Marshal of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, and the head of the Sejm's Constitutional Accountability Committee, Zdzisław Gawlik, the bank announced.

15:36

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

I Declare Full Military Support for Flood Protection and Potential Civilian Evacuation
- An alert has been issued for provinces in the south of the country, and Territorial Defense Brigades are ready to act everywhere. Over 2,500 soldiers from various formations are prepared for immediate action, and we can significantly increase this number – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference, following a briefing for the commanding staff of the Polish Armed Forces in connection with the difficult hydrological situation in the south of the country. - I would like to declare the full support of the military for local communities, for flood protection, for the evacuation of the population, should such a necessity arise, and any other possible assistance from the military. […] We have already reached this state of readiness in many places – he continued.

15:55

Kosiniak-Kamysz on Abolishing Term Limits in Local Government:

A Majority for This Project Can Be Found.
- Self-governance requires freedom, and there is no freedom without self-governance. Freedom means local communities deciding for themselves. A local community knows and feels well who should be its host - said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference. - 40% of village mayors, mayors, and city presidents were replaced in the last elections. Those who held their offices, in large part, stopped holding them because the voters decided so. This is the best proof - and this emerged at the Forum of Polish Towns - that term limits, a restriction on the freedom of local communities, are not good for anything - he stated. - We are submitting this idea [abolishing term limits in local government] for consideration. I have reached out to various local government circles for their opinions. […] I know that the Union of Polish Cities will be dealing with this matter. I think other local government corporations and organizations will also be taking initiatives - he conveyed. - And given the response I saw from parliamentarians of all parties, I believe a majority for this project can be found - he assessed.

17:36

Petru on initiative regarding health contributions:

I will try to persuade PSL.
- I will try to persuade the PSL to take a joint parliamentary path to lower the health contribution - wrote Ryszard Petru.

19:56

Kobosko:

I Will Insist There is No Crisis in the Coalition
- Ministers have the right to have different opinions on different matters and even, I dare to make this claim, they have the right to say publicly that they have different opinions – said Michał Kobosko in TVN24's "Fakty po Faktach". - I will insist that there is no crisis in the coalition, there are differences of opinion and there will be – he continued.

20:02

Wawrykiewicz on Duda and the Constitutional Tribunal Act:

He Will Definitely Not Sign.
- I believe that Andrzej Duda absolutely will not sign this act; at most, he will send it back to Julia Przyłębska, which would obviously be a paradox, as it concerns reforming the body she heads. But Andrzej Duda will definitely not sign it - Michał Wawrykiewicz said on TVN24, when asked about the chances of the president signing the act on the Constitutional Tribunal. - I will repeat once again that Andrzej Duda is co-responsible; sometimes we treat him grotesquely, as a harmless figure, but from the very beginning, he actively participated in the destruction, and I'm talking about the rule of law, starting precisely with the Constitutional Tribunal - he continued.

20:06

Kobosko:

Legally Speaking, We Don't Have a Constitutional Tribunal
- Legally speaking, today, we actually don't have a Constitutional Tribunal. We have an institution that receives laws from Mr. President Duda and operates according to the party interests of one party - said Michał Kobosko on TVN24.

20:52

Sienkiewicz:

PiS's Sole Principle - To Defend Even the Worst Thieves Within Their Ranks to the Bitter End
- PiS has one principle - it will defend even the worst thieves, even criminals from its ranks, to the bitter end. The fact that Jarosław Kaczyński is now starting to have doubts and has allegedly rediscovered Czarnecki's second life is a backpedaling from PiS's compromising situation. They simply protect thieves – said Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz in an interview with Dorota Wysocka-Schnepf on TVP Info's "Question of the Day".

21:01

Sienkiewicz:

Czarnecki Manifestly Took Public Funds – No Different from Other PiS Members
- In my opinion, Ryszard Czarnecki is an illustration of the political responsibility of the entire Law and Justice (PiS) party over eight years. He is a compromised individual, manifestly taking public funds, just like the entire PiS. He is no different. Perhaps in his demeanor, but in the essence of his actions – he is no different from his other PiS colleagues – stated Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz in an interview with TVP Info’s “Pytanie dnia” (Question of the Day). - The system of reaching for public money, of disposing of it for party purposes, was in the DNA of PiS for eight years. I don't understand why we should make Czarnecki some special figure – he added.

21:09

Sienkiewicz on Civic Platform Politicians with Collegium Humanum Degrees: They Should Renounce Them
- I hope that these politicians [from Civic Platform who have Collegium Humanum degrees] will renounce these titles, which is the most obvious move. It's hard to imagine that we have an affair of this kind and someone will be using a Collegium degree, believing that everything is fine. No, it's not fine – said Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz on TVP Info's "Question of the Day".
