Petru:

Lifting Romanowski's Immunity in the PACE Will Take at Least Half a Year
- To lift Mr. Romanowski's immunity in the Council of Europe, it will take at least, according to my estimates, half a year. Specifically, it must first go to the Committee on Rules of Procedure. The first parliamentary session begins on September 30, so it will go to the Committee on Rules of Procedure. And do you know when the next session is? In January, on January 27, 2025. There's nothing in between - Ryszard Petru said in an interview with Agata Adamek on TVN24's "Jeden na jeden" (One on One).

08:18

Petru on the letter from the head of the PACE regarding Romanowski's immunity:

I have doubts. A higher instance must assess this.
- I have far-reaching doubts whether this should be as presented in the letter from Rousopoulos, who is the President of the [Parliamentary Assembly] of the Council of Europe. Because, as a rule, this immunity only applies when there is a session or when we are travelling to a session or to a committee. And he extends […], that in his opinion this immunity applies all year round - Ryszard Petru said in “Jeden na jeden” on TVN24. - This is his interpretation. The court should be able to assess this. I understand that the prosecutor will appeal to a higher instance, and this higher instance must assess for itself whether this letter is binding, or if it is merely an interpretation - the deputy chairman of the Polish delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe continued.

08:25

Siemoniak on the Romanowski Case:

What Matters is What Happens Next.

- Everyone who was supposed to take responsibility has taken it. Prosecutor Korneluk spoke about this at a press conference, so I believe that what matters is what happens next, whether the prosecution will appeal and when, whether the prosecution will approach the Council of Europe, what further expert opinions will emerge, because if such authorities as Prof. Andrzej Zoll say that he believes that this second immunity does not exist here, then this case is not so black and white. It's not a mistake that someone confused black with white. It's simply following a path that no one has walked before, because there hasn't been this kind of situation before – stated Tomasz Siemoniak in the program "Rozmowy Dnia" on PR1.

08:26

Siemoniak on Operation 'Safe Podlasie':

This Will Not Be an Ad-Hoc Operation.

- This will no longer have such ad-hoc characteristics, command structures. The operational structures will be similar to those in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From a military perspective, this is a very significant change, organizing this entire operation in a completely different way. And I believe that all these actions I mentioned, this coordination of cooperation, the strong involvement of the Police, these are all things that, while obviously dealing with the consequences, bring about significant changes – stated Tomasz Siemoniak on PR1.

08:33

Hołownia on the Romanowski case:

Someone in the prosecutor's office should answer for this.

- I wasn't singing any song, I just had the impression that sometimes haste is advisable when catching fleas, but not with serious matters. I wouldn't use such a phrasing [that the prosecutor's office has compromised itself], but a mistake of oversight was certainly made there, and in my opinion, someone in the prosecutor's office should answer for it. I don't know exactly [who exactly], at the prosecutor's office level. I think the Minister of Justice knows perfectly well how this process unfolded - stated Szymon Hołownia on RMF FM.

08:40

Petru:

Next year, the Speaker of the Sejm might not approve Romanowski's participation in the Council of Europe PACE delegation
- The situation is that MPs from individual parliamentary clubs form the [Polish] delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The Speaker, in the end, can approve such a composition or not. So far, they have approved because there was no reason to block individuals from specific clubs from being part of this delegation - said Ryszard Petru on TVN24's "Jeden na jeden" (One on One). - The delegation is annual, meaning January-January. So, from January this year to January next year, Mr. Romanowski and others are delegates. However, in January next year, there will be a new delegation composition, and then the Speaker of the Sejm might not approve Mr. Romanowski's participation - he stated.

08:41

Petru on the Prosecution’s Actions Regarding Romanowski:

I Don’t Consider It a Disgrace, But a Mistake.
- I don’t consider this a disgrace for the prosecution, I consider it a mistake. They should have approached the Council of Europe [regarding Marcin Romanowski’s immunity]. They certainly felt “offended” that something like this didn’t happen - said Ryszard Petru in “One on One” on TVN24.

08:43

Kosiniak-Kamysz on Lewica's Stance:

If Someone Votes Against the Security of the Polish State, It's a Bad Situation.
- At the last Sejm session, there was also a very important vote regarding border security, and there, half of the Lewica caucus did not vote for the government's project aimed at increasing the sense of security for soldiers and the security of the border, the security of Poland. Members of the Council of Ministers from Lewica did not vote, and this is a serious matter - said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in an interview with Beata Lubecka on the program "Gość Radia Zet". - Yes, of course [the project was governmental], and Lewica did not support it. Lewica must certainly draw conclusions from this vote, and we all in the government must draw conclusions, because this is a serious government project, a very serious one. If someone votes against the security of the Polish state, it is a bad situation - he continued.

08:47

"I Will Vote for a Return to Pre-Constitutional Court Ruling Principles and to Hold a Referendum'. Kosiniak-Kamysz on Abortion
- There is a bill [on abortion] that we promised and for which I will vote, a return to the principles that existed before the Constitutional Court ruling, and holding a referendum on this matter, that is my proposal. We are not surprising anyone; we spoke about this during the election campaign, on election day, and the day after the election – said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on Radio Zet.

08:50

Kosiniak-Kamysz on the Future of the Third Way:

It's Worth Going to the Presidential Election Together.
- There is no such need [to end the Third Way project], because we now have the presidential election ahead of us, which it is worth going to together - said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on Radio Zet.

08:54

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

I believe there will be a majority to pass a lower health contribution
- I believe there will be a majority to pass a lower health contribution [...]. All of this can be improved. It's good that [Ryszard Petru] introduced a bill that reminds us this is our election program, specifically the Third Way's program. What unites us is the economy, our thinking about the future, a strong Poland in Europe, and security – that's what unites us in the Third Way - stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on Radio Zet.

09:01

Kosiniak-Kamysz After Reports of State-Owned Company Selling Parts for Iranian Drones:

We Will Implement Special Contract Controls.
- This took place in 2022, let's add that, it's not happening today. The Internal Security Agency detected it, and rightly so. An investigation has been ongoing for several months, not under our government, but under the previous one. Charges were brought against the management of WSK in Poznań. How did this happen? Selling at all costs, I believe, and trying to find markets - said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on Radio Zet, referring to reports of a state-owned company in Poznań selling parts that ended up in Iranian combat drones, such as those used by the Russians in Ukraine. - This is a bad situation for Poland, for our image, and also for our Polish-Ukrainian relations - he continued. - Certainly, all such contracts, especially if they are with countries that support Russia today, and Iran is one such country, must be subjected to special control, and we will implement such controls - he added.

09:08

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

Szatkowski Never Ran for NATO Deputy Secretary General
- To my knowledge, Tomasz Szatkowski never ran for NATO Deputy Secretary General. [...] He ran for Assistant Secretary General within the structure of NATO - said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on Radio Zet. - I discussed this with Minister Siewiera [...] about 4, maybe 5 months ago, completely before this whole matter, when Ambassador Szatkowski was still in Brussels, and when asked if I saw any objection to this candidacy if he were to run, I expressed the opinion that I saw no objection - he continued.

09:09

Hołownia:

We Must Deal with Accountability as Quickly as Possible, We Cannot Dally with It for the Entire Term

- The [pace of accountability for PiS] should be faster, it should be decidedly more dynamic. We must deal with accountability as quickly as possible, we cannot dally with it for the entire term, because we must start doing the things people elected us for - stated Szymon Hołownia on RMF FM.

- People are waiting for development. Removing PiS from power and holding PiS accountable was a prerequisite for us to start doing certain things, not an end in itself - he added.

09:20

Kosiniak-Kamysz on Supporting Ukraine:

Not Subject to Any Verification or Discussion. It Cannot Be Conditional on Historical Policy.
- The agreement includes support for Ukraine; the agreement includes our continued donation of equipment, and another donation agreement worth 100 million euros is being prepared. The agreement includes, for example, the training of soldiers, and these are expenses we will incur. Yes, it is a serious matter, but it concerns our security. In my opinion, this is not subject to any verification or discussion - Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said on Radio Zet. - Polish security is at stake there. If someone doesn't understand this, if someone harbors such hostility towards Ukraine, likely stemming from history – I understand historical emotions, as I have immense ones myself, regarding Volhynia - he continued. - I would like to see the matter of exhumations, the matter of historical truth, and the healing of the wound [...] accomplished during our term. [...] But it is not the case that aid for children who are today at risk of losing their lives should be conditioned in any way by history, by historical policy; this cannot be a condition - he added.

PSL MPs Condemn Us to Abortion Guerrilla Warfare. All-Poland Women's Strike Announces Demonstration at the Sejm

The All-Poland Women's Strike has announced a demonstration to be held at the Sejm on July 23. The date was not chosen by chance – it coincides with the beginning of the lower house of parliament's three-day session. The event is a reaction to the Sejm's rejection of the bill to decriminalize abortion.

After weeks of work and amendments that painfully mutilated the bill, but were crafted with the PSL in mind, unfortunately, the Sejm did not adopt the bill to decriminalize abortion. Resistant to scientific knowledge, resistant to legal and substantive arguments, PSL MPs are stubbornly pushing us outside the system, condemning us to abortion guerrilla warfare and arguing that a mother should face a sentence for buying pills for her daughter. That a partner who paid for the pills should be handcuffed and dragged before a court. These things are happening all the time, and the PSL MPs, with this vote, have decided that this is OK and should continue to be so. And Roman Giertych fled to the restroom. For our part, he can stay there forever – wrote the organizers in the event description on Facebook.

"There Can Be No Other Decision for Us": Brudziński Announces Vote Against von der Leyen's Candidacy

- The ECR Group unequivocally opposes the entire political and programmatic agenda. The vast majority of all delegations within the ECR hold a very negative, in fact, all hold a negative opinion and assessment of the program that Mrs. von der Leyen has presented. Of course, as we are truly the only free faction within the Parliament, as European Conservatives and Reformers, we do not have voting discipline. Individual delegations vote based on their own opinions and judgments. Obviously, I have expressed the opinion of the Polish delegation in the plenary session, a negative opinion. Ursula von der Leyen is the face of the current state of Europe. This madness associated with the forced Fit for 55 climate pact, with the Green Deal, with the ever-increasing attempt to centralize EU institutions, is resulting today in European companies relocating from our economic community, and people's lives are becoming decidedly harder as bills skyrocket. However, what we, as the Polish delegation, primarily accuse Mrs. von der Leyen of are peaks of hypocrisy and an absolutely illegal and extra-treaty interference in the internal policies of member states – stated Joachim Brudziński at a press briefing in the EP.

- As representatives of PiS, we remember that the fundamental principle derived from Roman law, applicable in international law, pacta sunt servanda, was blatantly violated in Mrs. von der Leyen's case. She stood beside the Polish President and Prime Minister, saying that everything was settled and that funds from the KPO would flow to Poland, only to receive a reprimand from Tusk, then leader of the EPP, and to withdraw from that decision in a crude, ostentatious manner. There can be no other decision for us; today we vote against this candidacy – he added.

Duda Sends Bill Expanding Absentee Voting to Constitutional Tribunal

- The President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, has referred to the Constitutional Tribunal, under preventive review, the Act of June 14, 2024, amending the Act – Electoral Code – the Chancellery of the President informed.

PiS on videos of young people insulting soldiers:

We expect the head of the Ministry of National Defence to stop being a paper tiger.
- A few days ago, we all saw these obscene images, when a group of young people, most likely under the influence of some substances, behaved in an absolutely unacceptable, vulgar, and aggressive manner. Towards whom? Towards Polish soldiers guarding our border with Belarus […]. This is a seed that was unfortunately sown two years earlier, when politicians from today’s ruling camp, from various factions that today form the December 13 coalition, attacked Polish soldiers and Polish officers - said Zbigniew Bogucki at a press conference in the Sejm. - I have such a proposal for Mr. Bodnar: that this team, which he appointed, the Siedlce team of prosecutors to prosecute Polish soldiers who defend our border, should be reclassified into a team that prosecutes those who insult Polish officers, who cause the service of soldiers, border guards, and police officers at the border to be destabilized. […] We also expect the Minister of National Defence to stop being a paper tiger, to act realistically for the benefit of Polish officers and Polish soldiers, because they can compete with Mr. Tomczyk on who writes tweets faster - said Andrzej Śliwka.

14:36

Tusk congratulates von der Leyen on re-election:

You will do a great job.

Ursula von der Leyen has been elected as the head of the European Commission for another term.

- Congratulations on your re-election, dear Ursula. Times are difficult, but I am sure that thanks to your courage and determination, you will do a great job. We will do it together - wrote Prime Minister Donald Tusk on social media.

20:00

Śmiszek:

For 6 or 7 Months, No Judge Has Faced Disciplinary Action for Applying Laws, Not PiS Statute Provisions
- Indeed, it is the case that at the end of May, for example, the procedure under Article 7 was abolished, meaning the procedure for violations against a given state, in this case Poland, systemic violations of the rule of law, because [...] for about 6 or 7 months now, no judge has had disciplinary proceedings against them for applying European Union law. No judge is held disciplinarily responsible for applying the law, not the provisions of the Law and Justice party's statute. I think you can feel the difference in how judges can work freely today, compared to how they were constantly under pressure and there were attempts to break their spines during the rule of Zbigniew Ziobro in the Ministry of Justice - said Krzysztof Śmiszek on TVN24's "Fakty po Faktach".

20:02

Nowacka on Romanowski's Second Immunity:

Parliament's Actions Were Also Lacking.

- I have a feeling that something was overlooked. This immunity, I'm not a lawyer, I'm a computer scientist, but whether this immunity is so binding is a question mark, the immunity of the Council of Europe. I am glad that Poland has independent courts, that regardless of whether the authorities like it or not, they issue certain rulings, and this is truly a great value. The fact is that a few things could have happened and, from my perspective, parliamentary actions were also somewhat lacking - stated Barbara Nowacka on TVP Info.

- I am wondering if, after our votes, a notification was indeed sent from parliament to the Council of Europe that this immunity is lifted or will be lifted. It seems that this would not have hurt, but rather helped - she continued.

20:07

Śmiszek on PiS's Shift in Approach to European Institutions:

Discovery of the Year.
- Listening to such wonderful panegyrics praising the Council of Europe from the lips of Law and Justice, it is truly a discovery, and I would say perhaps the discovery of the year - said Krzysztof Śmiszek on TVN24. - It was several months ago, I remember Julia Przyłębska's Constitutional Tribunal. It was this Constitutional Tribunal [...] that made decisions that certain provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights do not apply in Poland because they are inconsistent with the Constitution. That this awful Council of Europe, that this awful Union interferes so much with our civil rights and freedoms, that it deprives us of the right to a court [...] suddenly what do I see: 100 or 200 meters from this building, recently a conference of Law and Justice MEPs against the backdrop of the European Court of Human Rights, and note: they are invoking European standards, they are invoking the need to seek protection in the law of the Council of Europe. [...] You should be ashamed to swallow your own words and suddenly recognize European institutions as those that provide us with guarantees - he continued.

20:08

Nowacka on Giertych:

He Should Keep His Commitments.

- I believe that everyone who decided to run on the KO (Civic Coalition) lists also made certain public commitments. In such a gentlemanly world, he should keep those commitments, and I clearly heard Prime Minister Tusk state publicly that Roman Giertych will vote with the club and observe party discipline in votes concerning women's rights and issues - stated Barbara Nowacka on TVP Info.

20:09

Nowacka:

We Will Not Cease Our Efforts for Women's Rights

- We will not cease our efforts for women's rights. Projects will be submitted again and again, and I assure you that Polish women will be even safer - stated Barbara Nowacka on TVP Info.

20:12

Śmiszek on the US Elections:

Were I in the President's shoes, I wouldn't flaunt my sympathies, as it's unknown who he'll need to ask for help.
- I would recommend such far-reaching caution, not picking a side with any of the candidates, because our security also depends on the United States, and regardless of who governs them, who the president is, we should have very good relations with the States - Krzysztof Śmiszek said on TVN24. - If I were in the President's place, I simply wouldn't flaunt my sympathies in any particular way, because it's not yet known with whom he'll have to shake hands and who he'll have to ask for help, for support, for security guarantees for our country - he continued.

20:13

Nowacka:

We Will Go Over All These Projects Again

- I can say this on behalf of all the female MPs of Civic Coalition - we will go over all these projects once more with our colleagues and MPs, including those from the Polish People's Party, so that there is no shadow of a doubt as to where Civic Coalition stands - stated Barbara Nowacka on TVP Info.

20:20

Bosacki Presents Letter from Council of Europe PACE President Regarding Romanowski:

No Immunity Removal is Needed.
- What was omitted was informing the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe about the steps being taken against Member of Parliament Romanowski. [...] No removal of immunity by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is needed, and I will show you this. This is evident from the letter sent to Poland by the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. It clearly states that on the territory of the country from which the MP originates, immunity belonging to the members of that country's parliament applies. In the case of detention, immunity applies only when it concerns other Council of Europe member states. A procedural error was made; the whole matter is crystal clear and will be judged by the Polish court – stated Marcin Bosacki on the program "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News.

21:04

Fogiel Responds to Bosacki's Accusations and Reveals the Other Side of the Document:

You've Lost Something.

- What happened is a complete disgrace, not only for the prosecution but unfortunately for Poland as well. Your colleagues have unfortunately put Poland in the same category as countries like Belarus and Russia. You tried to detain an MP, a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe – Radosław Fogiel said in the program "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News.

- Do you think you'll impress viewers by showing... well, you've lost something. This document has two sides, and you only brought one. I have the other side here, and the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe writes: "When national authorities know or are informed of the fact that a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe enjoys immunity, they should suspend judicial proceedings pending the possible waiver of immunity." You've disgraced yourselves; the Olsen Gang were professionals compared to you – he continued.
