Today, a two-day extraordinary summit of EU leaders will commence in Brussels, where they will discuss the economy and competitiveness, Ukraine, Turkey, the Middle East, and Lebanon. Referencing the meeting of March 21-22, EU leaders will address the latest developments in Ukraine. In this context, they will raise the issue of Russia's continuous air and missile attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure in Ukraine, including the recently intensified attacks on the energy sector. At 8:30 AM in the Sejm, a press conference will be held with the participation of the PiS parliamentary club leader, Mariusz Błaszczak. At 9:00 AM in Warsaw, the Minister of National Education, Barbara Nowacka, and Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz will sign a letter of intent concerning the "Education with the Army" project implemented in schools. At 9:00 AM in Warsaw, the international conference "From Democratic Regression to Redemocratization. What Can We Learn from Poland's Success?" will take place. At 10:00 AM, the inquiry committee on envelope elections will convene. The agenda includes the questioning of Marek Zagórski, former Minister of Digital Affairs, and Jan Nowak, former President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO). Kotula:

Comparing TD's 2018 and 2024 Results, I Wonder Why Marshal Hołownia's People Are Shouting About Taking Our Ministers When They Brought TD 1, 1.5%
- If we were to compare the individual groupings that are in the ruling coalition on October 15th, none of them achieved the result they probably expected. That is, I hear grumbling mainly from colleagues, however, from Third Way, who say that we should be stripped of ministers, deputy ministers. I am comparing the results of Third Way from 2018 with 2024 and I wonder why Marshal Szymon Hołownia's people are shouting, when they brought Third Way, I think, 1, 1.5% - said Katarzyna Kotula in "Rozmowa Piaseckiego" on TVN24.

08:01

Kotula:

New Leaders Are Emerging, These Are the New Faces of the Left Worth Betting On
- New leaders are emerging, Magdalena Dropek's excellent result in Krakow, truly, Świnoujście, Joanna Agatowska, who remains the president of Świnoujście [...] I believe there are new faces of the Left worth betting on, also in various places across Poland - said Katarzyna Kotula on TVN24.

08:04

Kotula on EP Elections: On April 27th, We Will Announce Our Leaders
- These are some of the names that are on the table today [Biedroń, Śmiszek, Scheuring-Wielgus, Belka, Cimoszewicz]. On April 27th, we will announce our leaders, both male and female. I don't hide the fact that I want women to run in these elections - said Katarzyna Kotula on TVN24, when asked about the European Parliament elections. - I will not be running - she continued.

08:08

Gajewska on Giertych: In the KO club, there are no equals and more equal. The disciplinary officer will conduct proceedings and consequences will be drawn

- I am not the party's disciplinary officer. Yes, absolutely [I am a member of the club], I do not have knowledge of what the specific reason [for Roman Giertych's absence from the Sejm] was. I only know the general narrative, but as for our position on this matter, we had discipline introduced, we were all obliged to be present and to participate in the vote, and just as there are no equals and more equal in PiS, so there are no equals and more equal within the KO club, and [consequences will certainly be drawn against Roman Giertych] and the disciplinary officer Katarzyna Mrzygłocka will certainly conduct such proceedings very diligently and consequences will be drawn against him - stated Aleksandra Gajewska on TVP Info.

- I do not know these reasons and I do not want to publicly say here that they are a justification or not a justification. It is not for me to decide, however, I am absolutely convinced that we should all have been in the chamber at that time and voted on the matter of referring these projects to an extraordinary committee - the deputy minister continued.

08:13

Kotula:

I'd really like Marshal Sawicki to stop leveraging my name
- I would really like Marshal Sawicki to stop leveraging my name. The times when gentlemen who have always been in politics will decide about the lives, health, and bodies of women have long since passed into oblivion, and I would very much ask him not to treat me like an older colleague who is scolding me a bit, because if he checked the legal provisions, he would know that I have not broken the law – Katarzyna Kotula said on TVN24. - I don't want Marshal Sawicki to decide about the health, life, and body of my 24-year-old daughter, her friends, as well as my friends. The suggestion that I should get sterilized amused all of us greatly, because sterilization is illegal in Poland, also for medical reasons. Marshal Sawicki doesn't even know that. Therefore, if I were the Prime Minister, I would tell Marshal Sawicki to consider whether he should continue in politics or whether he should go into political retirement – she continued.

08:24

Kotula:

Partnership Law to be Submitted Soon. The Issue is Last-Minute Talks with PSL, Concerning Child Adoption
- This is not a question of the law's readiness or lack thereof, it is a question of the final discussions with the Polish People's Party - Katarzyna Kotula said on TVN24 when asked about the partnership law. - Child adoption [is not agreed upon] [...] if anyone within the partnership has a child, is the biological parent, it is only a matter of the other person in the family having rights, but also, and most importantly, having obligations towards the child, and the child having the right to a family and the right to security - she continued. - [People from the Third Way] openly say that they are afraid of their own electorate and that they will have to explain that this is opening the door to adoption. [...] Today, talks are ongoing regarding only one provision, and the law will be submitted soon - she added.

Sroka:

We Received Information from the Court That the Number of Requests for Broadly Understood Operational Control During the Period Examined by the Commission Exceeds 50,000
- Up until now, we have been discussing a dozen or so individuals who publicly stated that they had received information from Citizen Lab indicating they were under surveillance. We, as the [Pegasus] parliamentary committee, on the other hand, have received information from the District Court in Warsaw that the number of such requests for broadly understood operational control during the period being examined by the commission exceeds 50,000. Therefore, this number [of individuals surveilled by Pegasus, revealed by Adam Bodnar], less than 600 people, is not surprising - said Magdalena Sroka in an interview with Renata Grochal on "Bez uników" (Without Evasion) on PR3.

09:08

Leszczyna:

I don't expect a resignation, I'm not going to the EP

- No. I don't expect a resignation, I'm not going to the EP, but the decision is always in Prime Minister Tusk's hands. If he decides so, I will say 'of course' - said Izabela Leszczyna in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program "Gość Radia Zet".

09:10

Leszczyna on the 'Morning After' Pill: It Will Be Available from May 1st, As I Promised, Without Any Radical Changes
- I want to make women's lives easier, and that's the difference between Niedzielski and me. It will be available from May 1st, as I promised. Without any radical changes. We want to provide absolute legal protection to pharmacists who sign an agreement with the National Health Fund. Why is it that everyone raising a fuss isn't concerned that a 15-17-year-old girl can get pregnant, engage in sexual relations, her parents don't know, they haven't ensured basic education about where children come from, yet they worry that she will take a pill to avoid pregnancy - said Izabela Leszczyna on the program 'Gość Radia Zet'.

09:13

Sroka:

The Prosecutor's Office Must Verify How Many of the 570 Individuals Were Surveilled by Pegasus Without Legal Basis or Based on Highly Dubious Material
- Today, we are waiting for the prosecutor's office to conduct this analysis of the cases. It is the prosecutor's office that has access to all the materials. In reality, out of these 570 individuals [surveilled by Pegasus], it needs to be verified how many are those against whom the system was used without legal grounds or based on very dubious gathered material - Magdalena Sroka said on "Bez uników" (No Evasion) on PR3.

Błaszczak Poses Questions to the Government Regarding the Anti-Missile Shield:

Can We Afford to Fund Two Systems, Including the German One?
- When I was the Minister of National Defence, we received a proposal to join the European anti-missile shield. This proposal was rejected by Polish military specialists, specialists who are building the Polish anti-missile shield. It was rejected for three main reasons. Firstly, because the European anti-missile shield is a project that functions solely on paper, it is not advanced in any way, it is a concept. Secondly, because it favours the German defence industry, and thirdly, because specialists from other European countries presented a similar opinion, as I recall, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Balkan countries are not part of this project - said Mariusz Błaszczak at a press conference. - This is no European anti-missile shield. If we are talking about European, one can say that it is a European financial shield intended for Germany, so as to support the German defence industry, and it is not in Poland's interest to support the German defence industry, because we have our own, Polish defence industry, which is competitive with the German one in this field - he continued. - I wanted to publicly ask three questions to the government. Firstly, the fundamental question, why did they decide to join Poland to the anti-missile shield, a project that is not advanced, which exists only on paper, and why did they make such a decision against the opinion of Polish soldiers responsible for building the Polish anti-missile shield. Secondly, what about the Polish anti-missile shield, can we afford to fund two systems, including the German one, called European, which is significantly more expensive and significantly less advanced than the Polish system, and thirdly, when will the executive agreements be signed for K2 tanks, Korean tanks with production in Poland, for K9 howitzers and Krab howitzers, for Apache attack helicopters, and for further squadrons of Himars rocket artillery with a range of up to 300 km - he went on to say.

09:16

Leszczyna:

The Most Important Thing is to Invert the Benefits Pyramid
The most important thing is to invert the benefits pyramid. More and more of us need to use the services of Primary Healthcare (POZ) and outpatient specialist care, and fewer need hospital stays. We will free up doctors from hospitals and their on-call duties so they can attend to us – stated Izabela Leszczyna on the program "Gość Radia Zet".

09:19

Sroka:

Kamiński and Wąsik will be among the last witnesses called before the commission
- I think they [Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik] will be among the last witnesses, because they are actually responsible for the purchase and the decisions that Poland will acquire a system of one kind or another - said Magdalena Sroka in "Bez uników" PR3. - How long the commission will work - at this moment I am unable to answer the question, nor am I able to provide a date when both Mr. Wąsik and Kamiński will appear before the commission - she added.

Nitras on Duda's Meeting with Trump: I Fear Duda and His Entire Political Backing Are Not Up to Their Roles

- I cannot comprehend at all that President Duda would decide on something like this, because it's not even about interfering in internal American affairs, certain behaviour is simply inappropriate. Besides, Trump did the same, he met with Duda during the campaign in Poland. [...] The State Department maintains culture, class, shows a certain level befitting diplomacy. I fear that Mr. Duda and his entire political backing, with Mr. Mastalerek at the forefront, are simply not up to the roles they hold. In my opinion, this is outrageous – stated Sławomir Nitras in the program "Graffiti" on Polsat News.

09:28

Nitras:

I have no illusions that opposition politicians are among those spied upon by Pegasus, and this list will be much longer

- It makes a huge impression [the number of people spied upon by Pegasus]. We don't know the nature of these individuals; Minister Bodnar himself admits that some of these surveillance operations were justified because they concerned common criminals, often serious ones, and that's how this instrument was justified. However, I have no illusions that opposition politicians are among these individuals, and this list won't end with Brejza or Karnowski; this list will be much, much longer – Sławomir Nitras said on Polsat News.

09:30

Nitras:

Poland's Investment Plans in Many Areas Should Be Tailored to the 2036 Olympic Games
I would like, now there are the Games, the Games are the most important, but I announced at the beginning of autumn the commencement of work on a sports development strategy until 2036, not by accident, because in 2036 there are these Games, which President Duda would like to bid for, and these strategic documents should tell us what we should do by 2036 for these Games to be a success – stated Sławomir Nitras in Polsat News. I will say that the Games can be a certain civilizational, nation-unifying project, and Poland's investment plans in many areas should be adapted to ensure that this civilizational project gives us all a sense of pride on the one hand, and on the other hand, perhaps primarily, a certain civilizational step for Poland – he continued.

10:03

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

We've Prepared the "Education with the Military" Program, We're Launching Its Pilot Today
- We are at such a moment in our history, we live in such times, that any actions that can improve security must be taken. Security is not just a well-armed army, it's not just strength in alliances, but it is the strength of society, it is the wisdom of society, it is the preparedness of society. From kindergarteners to seniors, each of us must be prepared for various challenges – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference in Warsaw. - We realize that sometimes backlog cannot be caught up within a single year, but we have launched such a first major offensive and prepared the "Education with the Military" program. Today, we are jointly launching the pilot of this program. The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of National Defence have prepared a project that will be dedicated to primary and post-primary schools – he continued.

10:04

Nowacka:

Our Program Will Begin on May 6th and Conclude on June 20th
- This education must be interconnected, hence our pilot program, a pilot program that will encompass nearly 3.5 thousand schools across Poland, to which we invite all types of schools. The only exclusion is for 8th graders and 1st graders [of post-primary schools], meaning those in which EDB (Civic Education) is conducted as a program. Our program will commence on May 6th and conclude on June 20th, and the youth will have 3-hour lesson blocks tailored to their age and interests – stated Barbara Nowacka at a press conference in Warsaw.

12:10

Hołownia:

We Are Forming a Coalition for the European Parliament Elections

- We haven't stumbled, and I would like to inform all those who wish us well that the cooperation between Polska 2050 and PSL is going excellently, and because it is going so well, we will also contest these [European] elections together. We have made a decision, the management of Polska 2050 and the National Executive Committee of PSL, to form a coalition for the upcoming European Parliament elections. We will create joint lists in all constituencies to show everyone that a third way to Europe is possible - stated Szymon Hołownia at a press conference in the Sejm.

12:44

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

Europe Needs the Polish People's Party, Needs a Return to the Foundations on Which the EU Was Built

- Europe needs the Polish People's Party (PSL), Europe needs change, it needs a return to its roots, to the foundations on which the EU was built, it needs renewal. We cannot accept such uncritical acceptance of everything Brussels officials propose. We have our own sensitivities and our own ideas, and we live in a specific time and place. We must take this into account, and our program will be directed towards specific issues that are of immense importance here and now. This is security, first and foremost, the EU's involvement in arms production, joint actions for rapid response, and cooperation in all possible initiatives to enhance the security of Poland and the EU – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference in Warsaw.

13:08

Hołownia on European Elections: We're Aiming for the Best Possible Result

- Of course, we are aiming for the best possible result. For us, a significant threshold, which has already been etched in our imagination thanks to voters' decisions, is 14%. We see that this is the support we can count on (...) these elections will be difficult in terms of turnout, they are again a week after a long weekend, once again, because the previous ones were a week after Easter - said Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.

13:18

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

We Should Strive for Internet Voting Across All of Europe

- I believe that we should strive for internet voting across all of Europe. Many young people did not vote in the recent elections because they were studying in a city other than where they live daily. If internet voting were available, turnout would be much higher. It is difficult for one country to implement this, as the European Union could get involved in preparing an electoral system that would be useful for other member states - said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference.

18:39

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

Executive Agreement Signed for Delivery of 7 Fly Eye Mini UAV Systems to Polish Armed Forces

An executive agreement has just been signed for the delivery of 7 sets of Fly Eye mini-class unmanned aerial systems to the Polish Armed Forces, along with repair, logistics, and training packages. We are aware of the security threats, and that is why we are consistently strengthening our deterrence and defense capabilities – informed Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

Tusk Among Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People of the Year

Donald Tusk has been included in the list of the 100 most influential people of 2024, compiled by the American weekly "Time". The Polish Prime Minister was recognized in the "leaders" category, as one of 24 individuals.

A laudatory text in honor of Donald Tusk was written by Ursula von der Leyen.

"Donald Tusk has answered two questions that could not be more timely: how can we defeat populists? How can we stop the erosion of democracy and the rule of law? [...] After former Polish anti-communist activists took power in 2015 and began to undermine the rule of law and Poland's ties with the European Union, he took up the challenge. In 2021, he once again became the leader of the party he founded in 2001, and in 2023, in a fair and democratic contest, he regained power in his country," wrote the President of the European Commission.

"Donald Tusk is a political marathon runner. He has taught us all that it is never too late and that it is worth making every effort to stand up for our democracy," she concluded.

19:34

Kamiński:

I cannot attend tomorrow's visa scandal inquiry committee meeting
- In connection with information obtained through the media, suggesting I am to appear before the inquiry committee on the visa scandal on April 18, 2024, at 10:00 AM, I hereby kindly inform you that I cannot participate in the committee meeting on that day, due to a previously served summons to the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw for the same day and the same time - reads Mariusz Kamiński's letter to Michał Szczerba, published by the former head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration on social media. - At the same time, I kindly inform you that I will attend the next session of the Committee - he declared. - Due to the above, I request a change in the date of my hearing before the Committee and that I be served with a summons in accordance with the provisions of the law [...] in such a way that I can familiarize myself with the content of the summons before the next scheduled meeting date, and not learn about this fact from the mass media - Kamiński communicated to the head of the parliamentary inquiry committee.

19:57

Sutryk on Collegium Humanum: I was duped, I no longer use that diploma, but what bothers me most is that the PiS state didn't function properly
- Like many other people, I must admit I was duped by this university. After all, many politicians, many local government officials, even academics – I know rectors and voivodes who also graduated from this institution. All of us can feel deceived, at best – said Jacek Sutryk in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News, when asked about the accusations related to Collegium Humanum. - I regret it, because certainly if I had known that such situations would be associated with this institution, I would not have accepted the offer. I no longer use that diploma, I do not wish to use it. However, what bothers me most in this entire situation is that the structures of the then-PiS state simply did not function properly. They should have protected the students. I'm talking about various services, as well as state institutions appointed to control quality, to control the course of these types of studies, and those responsible for accreditation, they should have acted – he continued.

20:02

I. Bodnar: Wrocław has regressed, Wrocław isn't investing. We can't secure EU funds
- This current path should absolutely not be continued. Wrocław has regressed, Wrocław isn't investing [...]. Investment expenditure constitutes only 10% of our budget, while other cities have as much as 30%. We are unable to attract, to secure EU funds. Per capita, Wrocław brings in only PLN 220 to Poland, whereas Łódź can attract PLN 1076 per capita, meaning five times more of these funds, - stated Izabela Bodnar in Polsat News.

20:07

Sutryk:

Wrocław Needs a President Who Doesn't Need to Learn or Seek Experts, But Can Hit the Ground Running the Day After the Election
- Wrocław needs predictability, stability, and evolutionary changes, and every new term is such an opportunity, which I will likely seize if I become the President of Wrocław [...]. Wrocław needs a president who knows this city, knows its needs, who doesn't have to learn, doesn't have to seek a group of experts, but is simply able to go into battle the very next day after the election, is able to implement these projects - said Jacek Sutryk in Polsat News.

20:17

Kamiński:

I'll be the last to criticize Duda for meeting Trump. If it makes him change his mind on Article 5, I'll be the first to thank him.
- I will be the last person to criticize Andrzej Duda for the mere fact that he is meeting with a man who was the President of the USA, has a high chance of becoming one again, and who says things that are very dangerous for Poland. If President Andrzej Duda's visit persuades Donald Trump to change his mind about defending Poland and invoking Article 5 of NATO, I will be the first to thank Mr. Andrzej Duda for this visit and conversation with Donald Trump. I say this with full responsibility - said Michał Kamiński in an interview with Grzegorz Kajdanowicz on TVN24's "Fakty po Faktach". - Just as I considered it a fatal mistake for Andrzej Duda not to congratulate Joe Biden when he was elected president, so too I do not consider the meeting with Trump itself, although unprecedented, to be a fatal mistake - he added.

21:04

Duda in the USA: We Must Do Everything to Prevent Russia from Winning the War in Ukraine

- The Secretary General asked me for my assessment of the situation in Ukraine, so I spoke about how I see it at the moment. I strongly emphasized that we must do everything to prevent Russia from winning the war in Ukraine. In my opinion, this is the most important duty today for those countries that call themselves the free, democratic world. We belong to it today, and today our duty, like that of the entire community, is to support Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression - stated President Andrzej Duda at a press briefing in the USA.

21:09

Duda:

Trump Invited Me to His Private Residence. It's a Private Visit

- No, I am not worried about that, because presidents meet with their colleagues, especially those who have held presidential office in their countries before; this is a normal practice, there is nothing extraordinary about it. Presidents also meet with various politicians during their foreign visits. It is normal that if one country has good relations with another country, it wants those relations to be the best, with representatives from various sides of the political scene - stated President Andrzej Duda at a press briefing in the USA.

- I want to emphasize one aspect – yes, indeed this meeting will take place this evening, I was invited by Donald Trump to his private residence, I can say so, so this is truly a completely private visit, a private invitation. We cooperated for 4 years, we know each other, we are on good terms, and this is simply a private meeting due to my presence in New York - he continued.

21:14

Kosiniak-Kamysz on Duda's Meeting with Trump: The Only Good Thing That Can Come of It is If the Ukrainian Issue is Raised
- In my opinion, the President does not have private meetings abroad. The only good thing that can come of this is if the issue of Ukraine, the vote in Congress, is raised. There is an announcement from Speaker Johnson that he will present four bills concerning aid for Ukraine, Israel, Pacific states, and the immobilization of frozen Russian assets. If this were to happen [Duda's meeting with Trump], a strong appeal to Donald Trump to convince his congressmen to vote for aid for Ukraine, because this is a fundamental matter – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in the program 'Kropka nad i' on TVN24.

21:17

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

We Cannot Afford to Jeopardize Security, We Cannot Afford a Lack of Air Defence
- We cannot afford to jeopardize our security, we cannot afford a lack of air defence. What is in this project? Are those who oppose it speaking against what they are opposing? Are they against us using, for example, German air defence, the highest level of which we are not building because we do not have that level of impact on ballistic missiles – said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on TVN24.

21:19

Kosiniak-Kamysz on Partnership Unions: If it Meant Equality with Marriage and Child Adoption, I Will Not Vote For It
- I believe that these should be individual parliamentary initiatives, because coalition agreements do not cover this, nor do legislative matters such as the rules for abortion; each club has submitted its own initiative, there was a debate. This is the stance of the PSL, these should be parliamentary initiatives. What will be in the law will likely depend on individual votes, as we tend to vote on worldview matters this way – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on TVN24. - I am not changing my views. I have been saying for a long time: matters of inheritance, issues related to access to medical information, if such a law would facilitate them, then yes, that is acceptable. President Duda also spoke about this, I believe. If it meant equality with marriage and child adoption, then I will not vote for it, I will be against such solutions - he continued.
