Nitras Announces Opening of School Sports Infrastructure on Weekends
- 76% of school sports infrastructure operates only on days when school is in session and only during school hours. 65% of 'Orlik' pitches are available exclusively on weekdays. 30% of schools utilize sports infrastructure only 3 days a week […] These are data from the Ministry of Sport, based on 1177 surveys sent to municipalities - said Sławomir Nitras during a meeting of the Committee on Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism.
- I would like to launch a new program, we are preparing it with the Ministry of National Education, under the working title "Open Sports School". […] I would like to launch it, actually I would like to do it very quickly, I'm thinking about a perspective of two, maximum three weeks - he announced.
- I would like to support this program with an amount of 275 million zlotys. This program will have three components. The familiar sports animator, expanded to include animators for other facilities [than 'Orlik'], weekend activities, which until now have not been covered, in all sports facilities that are in schools, and I would like to support this with an amount of 75 million, the beneficiaries of which will be schools, for the purchase of sports equipment in schools that decide to join our program - he continued.
- We are opening this school infrastructure. Drive around your cities, towns on Saturdays and see on how many pitches children are practicing, and on how many facilities children are not practicing. And check on those where they are practicing, whether by chance they haven't jumped over the fence or gone through a hole in the fence. Check how many sports halls are locked on weekends. […] I want to put an end to this - he declared.
