At the beginning of the Senate session commencing today, Civic Coalition Senator Leszek Czarnobaj submitted a motion to remove from the agenda the item concerning the election of senators to the National Council of the Judiciary (KRS) – until, as he argued, the legal situation surrounding the council is clarified. A counter-motion was submitted by PiS Senator Marek Pęk.
Senator Czarnobaj's motion did not secure a majority, as it was supported by 49 senators, with an equal number voting against it. A total of 98 senators participated in the vote. Moments later, Senate Speaker Tomasz Grodzki confirmed that the motion had not achieved a majority, and the item remains on the agenda. According to the law, the Senate elects two of its representatives to the KRS.
