Brudziński on Schetyna's Declaration of 1000 PLN for Teachers: No One Will Give You As Much As Schetyna and PO Promise

- Regarding Grzegorz Schetyna's words, I can only say this. Dear listeners, no one will give you as much as Grzegorz Schetyna and Civic Platform promise. Grzegorz Schetyna represents that political camp which, before the 2007 elections, claimed they would not raise the retirement age. What did they do the day after the elections? They raised it - said Joachim Brudziński in an interview with Piotr Goćek on "Sygnały dnia" (Signals of the Day) on Polskie Radio Jedynka.

07:41

Brudziński:

I Don't Know Who My Successor Will Be. I Know PiS's Bench Is Long Enough to Find a Substantive Person

- That will be a decision of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, from the moment I am either dismissed, or, as I deeply hope, if I earn enough votes in the upcoming May 26th European Parliament elections, if I earn enough votes from my beloved West Pomerania, my equally beloved Szczecin, or the Lubusz Land, then that decision will be made by the Prime Minister in consultation with the leader of United Right, Jarosław Kaczyński - Joachim Brudziński said in an interview with Piotr Gociek on "Sygnały dnia" on Jedynka radio.

- I don't know who my successor will be. I know that the Law and Justice bench is certainly long enough to find a substantive person who will cope excellently after replacing me in this position - added the Minister of Interior and Administration.

07:57

Szymański:

Today, what we can do is help Brexit happen on the basis of an agreement. This is important not only for Great Britain and the EU, but for Poland

- In principle, this is what we have been doing for many years. It was one of the first challenges for the government of Beata Szydło to find a solution for the British referendum that would help win that referendum. Win in the sense that when the then-Prime Minister David Cameron called for this referendum, we did many concrete things at the European Council level. In principle, we wanted to do everything to ensure Great Britain simply did not leave the EU. No, today that matter is behind us. Today, what we can do is help Brexit happen on the basis of an agreement, and this is important not only for Great Britain and the EU, but it is important for Poland. This agreement must prove palatable to the British parliament, because a no-deal Brexit would cause immense damage to everyone - stated Konrad Szymański in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:00

Szymański:

The President of the European Council's sole partner should be the Prime Minister and the government. Appealing directly to public opinion in the EU is a risky step.

- I think this is not a helpful position, because for the President of the European Council, the sole partner should be the Prime Minister and the government of a given member state. If Tusk were a political commentator, even a parliamentarian, perhaps it would be acceptable for him to do so, but appealing directly to public opinion in the EU is a risky step. In my opinion, apart from the fact that it certainly doesn't help, it definitely cannot help resolve the ratification crisis today - stated Konrad Szymański in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Piasecki's Conversation."

08:01

Szydło on Conducting Exams: We Will Present a Concrete Solution Early Next Week
- Early next week, we will present a concrete solution, we will say how it will look. We are holding off until next week because there are still talks on Monday, and I believe, I want to emphasize this again, that teachers will ultimately stand by their students - said Beata Szydło in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News' "Graffiti" program.

08:07

Szymański:

The Only Chance for Ratification is to Support May in this Difficult, One Might Say Heroic Struggle for the Agreement

- One question is: the referendum, the referendum decision, and how it will be consummated, is a purely internal British matter, and we should respect that so as not to provoke the most radical forces in Great Britain, who - as it turns out - in large numbers, are millions of people irritated by the fact that the EU is a system in which it is so easy to interfere in internal matters. This political process is difficult, I understand the irritation, but emotions solve nothing here, they don't help in anything. Today, especially at high EU levels, we should do everything to help with ratification. The only chance for ratification is to support May in this difficult, one might say heroic struggle for this agreement - stated Konrad Szymański in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:07

Szydło:

ZNP isn't addressing the entire issue of salaries. Simply put, the system is bad

- I have the impression that the Polish Teachers' Union (ZNP) isn't addressing the entire issue related to salaries. Simply put, the system is bad – said Beata Szydło in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News's "Graffiti".

- Who will be brave enough to change the system? – the journalist pressed.

- One needs to have that courage. There must be cooperation between the government and trade unions here – Szydło stated.

08:12

Szydło on Broniarz: His prior political involvement, including strong ties to PO and SLD leaders, raises doubts about his impartiality as a negotiator

- Mr. Broniarz is not the sole representative of teachers, and one might even get the impression that his prior political involvement, including very strong ties to leaders of Civic Platform or previously to the Democratic Left Alliance, could raise doubts about whether he is an impartial negotiator - stated Beata Szydło in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News's "Graffiti" program.

08:12

Szymański:

The divergence between public opinion and Brussels, figuratively speaking, is present not only in Britain, but also in France, the Netherlands, and Italy.

- Certainly, the EU did not realize then, and still does not realize today, the extent to which it contributed to this deadlock. And this is not solely a British issue, because the divergence between public opinion and Brussels, figuratively speaking, is present not only in Great Britain, but also in France, the Netherlands, and Italy. And this is an unprecedented divergence – stated Konrad Szymański in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:14

Szymański:

Brussels Struggles with Understanding Member State Political Realities and Sometimes Provokes Anti-EU Forces

- At least let's not exclude Brussels from this group, this risk group. Brussels has a problem with arrogance. Brussels has a problem with understanding the political circumstances in member states and sometimes speaking in a way that only provokes anti-EU forces. This is self-defeating behavior – stated Konrad Szymański in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

- I am convinced that Minister Sellin's remark is dictated by concern for the EU. It is not about empty satisfaction. We would like the EU to emerge from this crisis. One of the elements, I am not saying it's the only or key one, but certainly one of the reasons, one of the ways out of this crisis, is a bit of self-critical reflection – he added.

08:15

Szydło on Tusk's Role in Brexit Negotiations: He Will One Day Have Several Crises to His Name as President of the European Council

- Donald Tusk will one day have several crises to his name as President of the European Council. Among them, this crisis caused by Brexit - said Beata Szydło in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News' "Graffiti".

08:20

Szymański:

The Most Likely Scenario is Still a UK Exit from the EU

- Britain will leave the EU. Today, nothing is entirely indisputable. However, the most likely scenario is still a UK exit from the EU. For me, the more important question than when is how, whether the deal will be saved or not. Today we are witnessing a heroic struggle, even to the point of losing her mandate as Prime Minister, by Theresa May, and we should support her - stated Konrad Szymański in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:24

Szymański:

PiS Has a Broad Pool of Candidates, a Long Bench Capable of Serving Well as EU Commissioners. Bielan, Poręba, Saryusz-Wolski, Szydło

- Such personal speculations before a decision is made… We know there are many individuals who not only hold significant political positions but also have solid preparation [for the role of commissioner]. I don't want to authorize media speculation, but this media speculation makes sense. PiS has a very broad group of candidates, a very long bench of candidates who can serve well as European commissioners. Adam Bielan, Tomasz Poręba, Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, Beata Szydło. These, I believe, are individuals who possess, on one hand, political stature and a certain political weight, and on the other hand, state experience – stated Konrad Szymański in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:44

Łukaszewicz on Biedroń: He Convinced Me with His Courage, Fresh Phrasing, and Seeing Things as They Are

- [Robert Biedroń] convinced me with his courage, fresh phrasing, and seeing things as they are. At my age, I've had enough of the mystery of life that escapes into transcendence, miracles, and the secrets of life. Man is afraid to look at what, forgive my expression, I have in his pants. Let's talk about man as nature created him, as he is a mystery to us - stated Olgierd Łukaszewicz in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

08:49

Łukaszewicz on European Parliament Bid: Nowoczesna Approached Me. I Was Told Schetyna Blocked My Candidacy
Yes [I was originally supposed to run on the European Coalition's list]. Nowoczesna approached me. That's how it was conveyed to me [that Grzegorz Schetyna blocked my candidacy]. I'm not investigating [why]. This argument was also presented to me [that the blockage could have been retaliation for my support of Jacek Wojciechowicz for Mayor of Warsaw during the local government campaign] - stated Olgierd Łukaszewicz in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

08:54

Łukaszewicz:

The EU Must Begin to Defend Itself

- The EU must begin to defend itself. Not just with words from Juncker, who says there's no point in stuffing the pockets of eurosceptics. But it must return to the very idea of why we need to look at Europe as a whole, and these thoughts are not new. Throughout history, they have been repeated. So, to battle - stated Olgierd Łukaszewicz in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

Miller on the EC's Rift Regarding 500+: "Very Dysfunctional." A Political Opponent Always Hunts for Disagreements and Ruthlessly Exploits Them
"This is very dysfunctional. I hope that on April 6th, when the first convention of the European Coalition takes place and a minimum program is adopted there, then from that time on, everyone involved in the EC will speak with a similar voice. This is very important in every election campaign," said former Prime Minister and EC candidate for the European Parliament, Leszek Miller, in an interview with Karolina Lewicka on Poranek Radia TOK FM. He was referring to the discord within the Civic Platform (PO), the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD), and Nowoczesna concerning the 500+ program. "A political opponent always hunts for differences in views, differences of opinion, and ruthlessly exploits these differences. Today, we can justify that we are before the convention, but the campaign is ongoing, and the example of the ad released by PiS is proof of how effectively an opponent can be attacked," he added.

09:07

Miller:

"Wiosna" Leaders Give the Impression They've Never Been Involved in Politics. Śmiszek and Spurek Worked in My Administration. I Sat Next to Biedroń in the Sejm for 4 Years. They're Not Newcomers."

"With a persistence worthy of a better cause, the leaders of 'Wiosna' give the impression that they appeared out of nowhere, that they've never been involved in politics, and that is untrue. Krzysztof Śmiszek succeeded. He worked in my administration when I was Prime Minister. Ms. Spurek also did," said former Prime Minister Leszek Miller in an interview with Karolina Lewicka on Radio TOK FM's "Poranek."

"I sat next to Mr. Biedroń in the Sejm for 4 years. I don't want to offend many of my colleagues who are now in Biedroń's party, hold important positions, and are by no means newcomers," he added.

09:43

Kierwiński on Differences of Opinion within the Civic Coalition: If We Were the Same, We'd Be One Party, Not a Coalition

"If we were the same, we'd be one party, not a coalition. Each of our voters realizes that if we are building a coalition, it means that on many issues we can have different opinions and we should have different opinions, because there is strength in diversity. One thing is fundamental. We have the same way of thinking about what a great asset membership in the EU is for Poland." - said Marcin Kierwiński from Civic Platform in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus.

10:18

Radziwiłł on his bid for the EP: For 15 years of Poland's EU membership, we've focused on adapting Polish law to EU law, with little influence on how EU law is made

We must realize that 80%, some say even more, of Polish law is law made in Brussels and Strasbourg. And therefore, we cannot confine ourselves solely to what we can do ourselves in Poland, but we must also have an influence on the frameworks that are established elsewhere. And we must say very clearly: for these 15 years of Poland's presence in the Union, we have rather focused on adapting Polish law to EU law, with little influence on how that EU law is made. This must change, because there are a lot of regulations that we then simply consume” – said Senator Konstanty Radziwiłł of PiS in an interview on Radio Jedynka.

11:37

Tomczyk:

PiS Sides with Brexit Supporters, Seeks to Join Anti-European International in Europe

Over a million Poles work in the UK, and their interests must be defended. Great Britain's exit from the EU will leave these Poles in a very difficult situation. The PiS government is not considering how to help Poles; instead, it wants to politically support the Brexiters in this madness, as the British themselves no longer want this divorce. This is proof that PiS continues to align itself with those who want to dismantle the European Union and undermine our security,” said Andrzej Halicki from Civic Platform (PO) at a press conference in the Sejm.

Minister Szymański said that Donald Tusk made a mistake by stating that one should side with citizens, not politicians. Minister Szymański believes the exact opposite, that one should side with politicians, not citizens. These are absolutely scandalous words. Today, one must stand with those who did not want to leave the EU, with the Poles, and with the Union. Today, PiS sides with the Brexiters. Today, PiS is trying to join the anti-European international in Europe,” added Cezary Tomczyk.

Prosecutor's Office Refuses to Launch Proceedings Regarding Kaczyński's Asset Declaration. Tomczyk: Investigators Are Laughing in Poles' Faces
"The Prosecutor's Office has refused to launch proceedings concerning the complaint we filed regarding the inaction of the CBA, regarding the failure to perform duties. The Prosecutor's Office has deemed that checking Jarosław Kaczyński's asset declaration for three hours is the norm in a democratic state of law. The Prosecutor's Office has once again hoisted one big white flag before one man - before Jarosław Kaczyński. It has proven once again that regarding the Srebrna [affair], there is a conspiracy of silence among state institutions, which aims to sweep the matter under the rug, to make the issue disappear" - said Marcin Kierwiński from PO at a press conference in the Sejm. - "These are standards known from the East. We always thought that state institutions would be resistant to the power structure that wants to eliminate justice in Poland." "The Prosecutor's Office, which refuses to launch proceedings regarding Kaczyński's asset declarations, is laughing in Poles' faces. This is a scandalous decision," added Cezary Tomczyk from PO. The Civic Platform has appealed this decision by the investigators.

Mazurek Responds to Civic Platform on Lack of Investigation into Kaczyński's Financial Statement: "The Goal is to Cause Confusion and Media Hype, to Create the Impression That Something is Wrong"

Today’s press conference by Civic Platform politicians serves only one purpose – to cause media confusion, media hype, to create the impression among Poles that something is wrong with President Kaczyński’s financial statement. They are doing this deliberately, with calculation. They are politicians who have been in parliament for more than a day and they know perfectly well what the procedures for verifying financial statements are” – said PiS spokesperson and Deputy Marshal Beata Mazurek at a press conference in the Sejm.

All decisions made by the prosecution are based on the documents it possesses. If it has a complete set of documents, then I am not surprised that it makes certain decisions within a specific timeframe. Financial statements are checked by many people” – she added.

14:24

Mazurek:

I hope an agreement will be reached with the teachers. I have assurances that the government will make every effort for the exams to run smoothly.
“I am not in the government. I only have assurances that the government will make every effort for the exams to run smoothly. I deeply believe that everyone cares about this strike not affecting children. I am convinced that not only the government but also the teachers are aware of this and that an agreement will be reached,” said PiS spokesperson, Deputy Marshal Beata Mazurek, at a press conference in the Sejm.

Let's wait until Monday, let's wait for the outcome of these talks. I hope it will be constructive, good, because to reach an agreement, there needs to be goodwill from both sides. The will from the government is there. Prime Minister Szydło is ready for talks. They can last from dawn till night,” she added.

16:17

Jaki:

No Doubts. In My Opinion, If the European Coalition Wins the Elections, They Will Introduce LGBT+ Cards Across Poland

- In the upcoming European Parliament elections, we will either choose the United Right and a strong family, or Grzegorz Schetyna's PO-KO and the weakening of the family in the form of LGBT+ programs, which are being introduced in Warsaw, and there are politicians in Krakow who also want to do this. Let there be no doubt. In my opinion, if the European Coalition wins the elections across Poland, they will introduce LGBT+ cards everywhere, throughout Poland. We cannot allow this - said Patryk Jaki during a meeting with voters.

19:48

Cimoszewicz:

If there's readiness, if there's enough courage, I'm ready to publicly debate Jarosław Kaczyński on Europe

- I don't foresee any debate in this electoral district, but by all means, if there is such readiness, if there is enough courage, I am ready to publicly confront Jarosław Kaczyński in a fundamental discussion about Europe, not about 'hands off our children'. He is a former prime minister, I am a former prime minister. I believe he is also a good expert in international affairs - said Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz in an interview with Grzegorz Kajdanowicz on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

19:59

Cimoszewicz on EC Announcements Regarding Teacher Salary Increases: "The Opposition Has Been Placed in a Situation Where There Is No Other Choice"

- The opposition has been placed in a situation where there is no other choice. It must, as far as possible, confirm that it will respect these decisions and will do everything to continue them. All of this, of course, is not very rational, because it pushes us towards a situation reminiscent of what happened in Greece. I am all for responsible politics, but I am not for committing political suicide - said Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz in an interview with Grzegorz Kajdanowicz on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

20:17

Legutko on ACTA2: The Problem is That These Regulations Are Very Imprecise. Even the Author of the Report Admitted This

- The problem is that these regulations [ACTA2] are very imprecise. Even the author of the report, which we voted on and discussed, admitted that it's imprecise. There are two main things. One is the so-called related rights, meaning not only the author has rights, but also the publisher. As a result, the publisher with the most money, the greatest power, will lead to the elimination of weaker entities. We will have the dominance of media giants - stated Ryszard Legutko in a conversation with Edyta Lewandowska on TVP Info's "Gość Wiadomości".

20:21

Legutko:

I Hope Many Good Things Can Happen After the EP Elections. For the First Time, There's a Chance to Break the Monopoly
I hope that after the [European Parliament] elections, many good things can happen. I keep emphasizing, and it's important to remember, that for the first time there is a chance to break the monopoly, because the EU has been governed by the same political coalition for 40 years. Even before the EU, it was governed. This may finally change - stated Ryszard Legutko in a conversation with Edyta Lewandowska on "Gość Wiadomości" TVP Info.

20:23

Legutko on PO's Vote on ACTA2: All Options Were Used. Some Voted For, Others Against, Some Abstaind, and Some Took Out Their Ballot and Didn't Vote at All

- They [PO MEPs] show this cacophony, because all options were used [regarding ACTA2]. Some voted for, others against, some abstained, and some took out their ballot and didn't vote at all. They wanted to vote in a politically advantageous way, but it turned out they fell into strong confusion and the signal from their side was indeed cacophonous - stated Ryszard Legutko in an interview with Edyta Lewandowska on TVP Info's "Gość Wiadomości".

20:27

Śmiszek on MP Kruk's words: They unambiguously remind me of what the Nazis said in the 1930s
- These are shameful words. I must say that these words unambiguously remind me of what the Nazis said in the 1930s, that there are certain social groups that must disappear from the sight of the majority - Krzysztof Śmiszek said in an interview with Monika Olejnik on "Kropka nad i" TVN24.

20:34

Śmiszek:

I was attacked by right-wing circles when I said homophobia should be punished. These are not my words. These are the words of the PiS government from two years ago at the UN.
I was attacked by right-wing circles when I said homophobia should be punished. These are not my words. These are the words of the PiS government from two years ago at the UN. The UN, the Human Rights Council recommended two years ago that Poland expand its penal code to address homophobia. And what happened? Zbigniew Ziobro in 2017 agreed and promised Poles that the penal code would be changed – said Krzysztof Śmiszek in an interview with Monika Olejnik on "Kropka nad i" on TVN24.

21:48

Szydło:

Tusk Couldn't Manage to Keep Great Britain in the EU
The opposition lies when they say PiS wants a Polexit. We have never said that and we have never done anything to suggest it. I could also joke that a prominent, outstanding politician from the Civic Platform, who referred to himself as the President of Europe and is the head of the European Council, will one day have on his record that during his tenure, the EU began to crumble. The United Kingdom's departure [from the EU], Brexit, is nothing other than an attempt to weaken the EU in some way. It will be a real attempt if it happens, and even without a deal. Donald Tusk couldn't manage to keep Great Britain in the EU in some way – stated Beata Szydło in an interview with wPolsce.pl.

Szydło:

I Treat 1:27 as My Victory. Many Politicians at the Table, Many Heads of Government Were Deceived

- My victory of 1:27 brings me enormous satisfaction, because even back then, when there were elections for the [RE] chairman... I treat it as my victory. Because I believe that many politicians sitting at the table, many heads of government, simply fell, were deceived. They were under the illusion that he would be an independent politician, an independent leader, that he would care for everyone's interests. I knew perfectly well that he would primarily be a politician seeking confrontation and clash, building his position above all else - stated Beata Szydło in an interview with wPolsce.pl.

Sejm to Address Kukiz'15 Anti-Corruption Bill Next Week

The first reading of the so-called anti-corruption bill proposed by Kukiz'15 is scheduled for next Wednesday, April 3rd, at 2:30 PM – according to the preliminary Sejm schedule seen by 300POLITYKA. As we wrote last week, the MPs' proposal received a swift opinion from BAS and was forwarded to the first reading at an equally rapid pace.

The Kukiz'15 bill – as stated a few days ago by a representative of the proponents, Tomasz Rzymkowski, quoted by Interia – aims to "tighten the law against individuals who have committed corruption offenses," among other measures, by prohibiting such individuals from holding public office.
