Friday's Political Agenda: Final Sejm Session Day, PM Morawiecki in Budapest, Civic Platform Board on EP Candidates

Friday marks the third and final day of the Sejm session. The voting block will commence at 10:00 AM. During this block, MPs will decide, among other matters, on the adoption of the Minister of Foreign Affairs' information from yesterday and whether to introduce amendments to the electoral law for the European Parliament. These changes are related to the size of the Polish delegation in the event that Brexit does not occur.

Directly after the conclusion of the votes, around 12:30 PM, the Committee on Justice and Human Rights will convene to decide on the motion to dismiss its chairman, Stanisław Piotrowicz.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will be on a visit to Budapest, where at 10:30 AM he will participate in celebrations marking the 171st anniversary of the outbreak of the Spring of Nations. Meanwhile, at 8:30 AM in Warsaw, PiS city councilors will hold their press conference.

Also today, the board of Civic Platform is scheduled to meet to select candidates for the European Parliament elections.

Emilewicz Explains the Necessity of Amendments to the Education Act: 'It's Hard to Imagine Someone Taking Away My Right to Raise My Children in This Most Intimate Sphere'

- This is an initiative of Porozumienie. Yesterday, we organized such conferences in several cities across Poland. Where our councilors are, who are also very concerned. As I said at the conference, we met first and foremost not as politicians, but as parents. I myself am a mother of three sons, two of whom are currently in school. It's hard to imagine someone taking away my right to raise my children in this most intimate sphere. I would not want any external system to strip my children and myself of this intimacy that is inherent to us - Jadwiga Emilewicz said in an interview with Piotr Goćek on Polskie Radio Jedynka's 'Sygnały dnia' (Signals of the Day).

Łapiński:

I'm Not Thinking About Returning to Politics, But as EP Candidate Lists Show, Politicians Who Left Are Coming Back. I'm Not Talking About Myself, as I'm Fulfilled in Another Sphere

- I'm not thinking about it [returning to politics] at all, but as even the lists being announced for the European Parliament show, politicians who stepped away from politics at a certain stage, who were engaged in other things, are returning. I'm not talking about my case, as I have absolutely no such plans. I am already fulfilled in another sphere, but various stories show that politicians can make a comeback – sometimes with better results, sometimes with worse. I have neither professional ties [to politics] nor any plans in that direction. I am fulfilled in another field and I am happy with it. But of course, I observe politics as an observer, a viewer, sometimes a commentator – stated Krzysztof Łapiński in an interview with Wojciech Dąbrowski on Polsat News's "Graffiti".

Łapiński on Kaczyński's "Five": Shows PiS Takes EP Elections Seriously, Stakes Are High; PiS Already Launched Campaign for Autumn Victory
- This shows [the presentation of the so-called Kaczyński's Five] above all that PiS is taking these [EP] elections very seriously, that the stakes of these elections are high, because if they are throwing such proposals, very important… whether it was 42 or 28 [billion PLN], that matters less. They simply concern large social groups, so it shows that PiS has already, in effect, begun the battle for victory in the autumn elections. The EP elections are, as it were, the first phase of these elections that will take place in the autumn. There was a moment when PiS regained some initiative, because let's remember what was happening before. In previous weeks, PiS had to explain itself regarding one issue, then another. Generally, PiS was on the defensive, constantly having to explain itself, defend itself, respond to various questions and doubts, and since that moment, the rules of the game have changed somewhat. Today's opposition had to react to these proposals, whether they were for or against them, how they evaluated them. The media had to report on them, talk about them. Even if experts came and criticized or praised them, it was still loud about it all the time, and Kaczyński's Five broke through, especially in these two elements: 500+ for every child and the 13th pension - stated Krzysztof Łapiński in an interview with Wojciech Dąbrowski on Polsat News' "Graffiti". Asked if Kaczyński's Five would be a ticket to a second term, the former PiS politician and spokesperson for the President replied: - We don't know that yet. It could be a ticket to a second term, because it is certainly the case that it is addressed to large social groups, but let's also remember that today the political scene is, I don't want to say it's cemented, but the division and emotions are quite high. Consequently, if declared voters of Civic Platform, Nowoczesna, or the broadly understood opposition hear that they will receive 500+ for their first child or a 13th pension, it won't convince them. I don't think someone who is a declared opponent of PiS, who supports the current opposition, will suddenly be convinced by this. It could be significant for a certain group of hesitant, undecided individuals who do not have such firm and strong affiliations with one camp or the other. For them, this offer might be interesting. They might think to themselves: well, yes, this party is in power and still, after 3 years in power, it can offer me new proposals or things that will benefit me. So the fight will likely be for that small segment of the Polish political scene that is not yet utilized.

Szymański on Running for the European Parliament: It No Longer Tempts Me
- It tempted me in 2004 and I ran. In 2009, I ran, and it no longer tempts me - said Konrad Szymański in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM's 'Morning Interview'. - And do you see how many people are eager to go? Everyone is going except you - the journalist asked. - That's natural. I think every election sparks interest. National elections will also spark enormous interest - Szymański replied.

08:18

Łapiński:

PiS Politicians Will Likely Use Rabiej's Interview

- Sometimes you benefit from gifts given by the other side. Right now, PiS has likely decided that by heating up this topic [LGBT+ cards], they are firstly putting the PSL in a very difficult situation, because the PSL is in the European Coalition and associating the PSL with these LGBT issues is likely difficult for the PSL electorate to digest, for a part of them. And here, the fight is also about showing the PSL electorate: look, your party, instead of being a conservative party that professes values aligned with yours, is suddenly supporting some, let's call them, novelties in custom. Here, it's a fight for votes, simply for election votes - stated Krzysztof Łapiński in an interview with Wojciech Dąbrowski on Polsat News's "Graffiti".

The former spokesperson for the President also referred to Paweł Rabiej's interview today for "Dziennik Gazeta Prawna": - It's not even eight o'clock yet, but likely there are already first phone calls or SMS messages from PiS politicians, who will undoubtedly use this interview, and as I said, they will use it in a context to show a certain part of the PSL electorate, or even the Civic Platform electorate, who are more conservative: look, we are defending conservative, right-wing values, and parties like the PSL and Civic Platform have betrayed them. This will be precisely a fight for the votes of those voters who are either undecided, or such things can be decisive. It's often one, two, or three percentage points that will be crucial.

Szymański on Macron's Visit to Poland: We Are Looking for a Date. We Are Talking About the Earliest Possible Date This Year. There is Great Interest on the French Side in Making a New Beginning
We are looking for a date. Both sides are looking for a date that would be convenient. We are talking about the earliest possible date this year. This date is not precisely determined. In Polish conditions, this date must be convenient for both the Prime Minister and the President. We need to coordinate these three agendas. There is such a will, especially I think on the French side, there is great interest in making a new beginning – said Konrad Szymański in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM's "Morning Interview".

08:31

Szymański on Reparations: It Was Mentioned Yesterday in Czaputowicz's Exposition, So It Seems to Me This Matter Has Its Importance

- Yesterday it was mentioned in the exposition of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, so it seems to me that this matter has its importance, also on the government's agenda. Not just parliament's. First, we must establish a stance domestically, because this is a serious issue. It is not a political provocation - Konrad Szymański stated in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM's "Morning Conversation".

08:34

Gowin:

Pedophilia is a monstrous crime, and one should not campaign on such a crime and the suffering of its victims.

- I want to say that pedophilia is a monstrous crime, and one should not campaign on such a crime and the suffering of its victims, as MP [Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus] is doing with her speeches. Let us be guided by moral principles in this matter, not by either anti-church obsession or pre-election calculations – stated Jarosław Gowin in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on "Trójka Political Salon".

08:42

Gowin on the LGBT+ Charter: 'We Didn't Initiate This Topic. The European Coalition is Dragging Us into This Ideological Arena'

We did not initiate this topic [the LGBT+ charter]. Representatives of the European Coalition initiated it, President Trzaskowski initiated it. We are reacting because we are the camp of freedom, a community of people who believe that in matters of upbringing, the decisive voice should belong to parents. We also believe that political debate, especially today in Poland, should be conducted around issues such as the economy, social programs, family support, further development prospects, innovation, research and development, and not around one ideology or another, or ideological disputes. We are being dragged into this ideological arena by the European Coalition – stated Jarosław Gowin in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on "Trójka's Political Salon."

08:43

Schetyna:

For months I've been saying we need to look for partners. The Civic Coalition and local elections proved it pays off, so today we're taking the next step

For 3.5 years, we have been rebuilding the party, searching for new quality, and ideas to be ready for elections. For months I've been saying that we need to look for partners. The Civic Coalition and the local elections showed that it pays off politically, so today we are taking the next step” - said the leader of Civic Platform, Grzegorz Schetyna, in an interview with Jacek Żakowski on TOK FM Radio's Poranek.

08:46

Schetyna:

Today the National Board, March 23rd the National Council. I believe we will accept the agreement and the lists. I believe that Civic Platform is a wise party and knows what's at stake, how important it is

Today we still have the national board, and on March 23rd the National Council, which will be accepting the agreement and the division of candidates on the lists. I believe we will accept this. I believe that Civic Platform is a wise party and knows what this game is about, how important it is” – said the leader of Civic Platform, Grzegorz Schetyna, in an interview with Jacek Żakowski on Radio TOK FM's Morning program.

08:50

Gowin:

It's Not the Mayor or Deputy Mayor of Warsaw Who Will Decide What and How Polish Children Are Taught – That's the Polish State's Role
If anyone thinks that my party, Porozumienie, that we will passively watch as attempts are made to restrict parental rights, they are deeply mistaken. Yesterday, across Poland, young activists from Porozumienie took a grassroots initiative, truly unconsulted by me, to collect signatures in individual local governments or communities for draft resolutions emphasizing parents' right to decide the spirit in which their children are raised – stated Jarosław Gowin in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on "Trójka's Political Salon". It's not the mayor or deputy mayor of Warsaw, who today in an interview says that the next step will be granting homosexual couples the right to adoption; it's not they who will decide what and how Polish children are taught. That is the role of the Polish state – emphasized the Deputy Prime Minister.

08:54

Gowin:

Just like the United Right's slates, the European Coalition also presents strong lists. The fight will be tough, I believe it will be free from demagoguery and the ideology being pushed onto Polish schools. The result will depend on voter mobilizati

- Just like the United Right's slates, the European Coalition also presents strong [election] lists. What is striking is that there are few current MEPs in these top positions. I don't know if they will be bypassed entirely from these lists, or if they will be placed in lower positions. But I emphasize again: I respect our opponents, their political strength. The fight will be tough, I believe it will be fair, free from demagoguery, from the ideology that is being attempted to be forced upon Polish schools, while the result will largely depend on the mobilization of individual electorates - stated Jarosław Gowin in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on "Trójka Political Salon".

09:12

Boni:

I Never Felt Treated Differently in Schetyna's PO Due to My Work with Tusk

I never had any feeling that because I worked with Donald Tusk, I was treated any differently in this Civic Platform where Grzegorz Schetyna rules” – Michał Boni from Civic Platform said in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet. – “Our relations are good, and these hypotheses [about cutting out people associated with Donald Tusk] are a bit of a journalistic hoax, I think”.

09:15

Boni:

PO is Looking for Its Place, the EPP is Doing the Same. It's Not Turning Left, But Seeking a Position
I think PO is looking for its place to be present in these European elections... And the same is happening with the EPP – it's not turning left, but it's looking for a place to be able to build a good, democratic coalition in the European Parliament later” - said Michał Boni from PO in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

[Civil partnerships] should be legalized. And please also remember that civil partnerships do not mean same-sex marriages, that is a completely different next step, another matter for discussion, as has happened in Germany. And I believe that more openness is needed here. This problem should not be ideologized, but should be looked at from the perspective of civil rights and human rights, and that is how it is formulated in the world” - he added.

09:22

Mazurek:

European Coalition Politicians' Statements on Same-Sex Couple Adoption Are Shocking. This is a Boundary Previously Uncrossed

The current political climate in Poland is marked by heated debates and strong reactions, particularly concerning social issues. Recently, Beata Mazurek, a prominent figure from the Law and Justice party (PiS), voiced her profound shock and disapproval regarding statements made by politicians within the European Coalition (Koalicja Europejska) concerning the adoption of children by same-sex couples.

Mazurek stated that these discussions have crossed a line that, until now, had not been breached in Polish political discourse. Her remarks suggest a deeply held conviction that such topics represent a fundamental departure from established societal norms and legal precedents in Poland. The implication is that allowing same-sex couples to adopt children is perceived by her and her political allies as a radical shift that challenges traditional family structures and values.

The context of these statements likely arises from ongoing discussions within the European Union and at the national level regarding LGBTQ+ rights and family law. The European Coalition, a broad alliance of centrist and liberal parties, has generally been more open to progressive social policies. Their politicians' engagement with the issue of same-sex adoption, therefore, is seen by Mazurek and PiS as an attempt to import liberal social agendas that are contrary to what she characterizes as Polish traditions.

Mazurek's use of the word "shocking" underscores the emotional and ideological divide surrounding these issues. It suggests that the very contemplation or advocacy of same-sex adoption by her political opponents is viewed not merely as a policy difference, but as an affront to deeply ingrained cultural and moral beliefs. The phrase "a boundary that had not been crossed until now" implies that this is a new and alarming development in the public debate, one that signals a potential acceleration of social change that many, including Mazurek, find unacceptable.

This statement highlights a key fault line in contemporary Polish politics, pitting conservative values against more liberal and progressive viewpoints. The debate over same-sex adoption is symptomatic of broader tensions regarding the role of religion, tradition, and individual rights in shaping public policy and societal norms in Poland.

Mazurek Announces Tomorrow's PiS Regional Convention in Katowice

The convention will be attended by the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, and the Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki. The party's structures will also be present. The convention will focus on the upcoming European elections. As always, this is a very important moment for us before the elections," said Beata Mazurek, Deputy Marshal of the Sejm, during a press conference on Friday.

PMM in Budapest: "Our Nations Are Pieced Together from Such Banner Fragments, Fragments of Our Great History, Fragments of Our Friendship, Polish-Hungarian Friendship"

- Our nations today, free nations, are pieced together from such banner fragments, fragments of our great history, fragments of our friendship, Polish-Hungarian friendship. Just as these banners are put together, our homelands are something more than just our individual fate, more than these banner fragments. In the same way, today we are fighting for a better future - said Mateusz Morawiecki during the ceremony marking the 171st anniversary of the outbreak of the Hungarian Uprising in Budapest.

Krasnodębski Proposes Debate with Kopacz

Professor Zdzisław Krasnodębski, a Member of the European Parliament, has invited Ewa Kopacz, a Member of Parliament and former Prime Minister, to a debate. The invitation was extended via Twitter, referencing a specific post from March 14th, 2019.

The tweet from Krasnodębski's official account, @ZdzKrasnodebski, states: "Pani Poseł @kopacz_ewa! Zapraszam do debaty na temat artykułu "Konstytucja bez duszy?". Jestem gotów na dyskusję. Proszę o odpowiedź." (MP @kopacz_ewa! I invite you to a debate on the article "Constitution without a soul?". I am ready for a discussion. Please respond.)

The reference to the article "Konstytucja bez duszy?" suggests the debate will focus on constitutional matters, likely concerning the interpretation or state of the Polish constitution. Ewa Kopacz, a prominent figure in Polish politics and a member of the Civic Platform party, has a significant background in parliamentary proceedings and served as Prime Minister from 2014 to 2015.

Professor Krasnodębski, associated with the Law and Justice party, is known for his academic work and his role in European parliamentary debates. This proposed debate highlights potential ideological or political differences on constitutional issues between the two politicians.

Nationwide Village Head Day in Łowicz on Sunday with the Prime Minister

On Sunday in Łowicz, the Prime Minister's Chancellery is organizing the Nationwide Village Head Day with the participation of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. As our interlocutors explain, the aim of the event is to integrate rural and small-town communities, and the government wants to foster the development of these areas through actions aimed at expanding and improving life in the countryside.

- "Polish agriculture is our export brand, and for Morawiecki, it is an extremely important area," one of PMM's closest associates tells 300POLITYCE. Our interlocutor emphasizes that in this way, the Prime Minister's Chancellery wants to continue the offensive launched at the February PiS convention. Over 1000 people are expected to arrive in Łowicz, including village heads from all over Poland. Additionally, stands with healthy Polish food will be exhibited in the hall.

- "The Prime Minister's Chancellery wants a strong PiS delegation that will be in one European faction, unlike the European Coalition, whose MEPs will be in 2-3 factions. This allows for firm and effective advocacy for the interests of Polish villages in the EU," argues another of our interlocutors. - "I assure you, we will do everything to make Polish agriculture one of the drivers of Poland's economic development, and the residents of Polish villages will enjoy growing financial security for their families," he emphasizes.

Important PiS politicians and ministers will also participate in the event: Joachim Brudziński, Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski, and Grzegorz Schreiber. Earlier, on Saturday in Katowice, another regional convention of the ruling party will take place with the participation of Jarosław Kaczyński and Mateusz Morawiecki.

PM in Budapest: Today, as 171 years ago, we stand on the side of truth, solidarity, the common person, and freedom

- The future depends on our will, on our strength of will. Today, as 171 years ago, we stand on the side of truth, on the side of solidarity, on the side of the common person, on the side of freedom. In the name of this better future for Hungary, for Poland, for Europe, we are also fighting today for truth, for justice. We are increasingly confident that just as the Turul and the white eagle led us to victory in 1989, they will lead us to even better times in the near and more distant future, for our children and grandchildren. Our two great poets, Sándor Petőfi and Zbigniew Herbert, spoke of unity in different words. 'A great rope of air' – Herbert said. Petőfi Sándor spoke of unity, of a single Polish-Hungarian nation. Let this great rope of air then unite us. All Poles, Hungarians, and Europeans who believe in a Europe of fatherlands – said Mateusz Morawiecki during the ceremony commemorating the 171st anniversary of the outbreak of the Hungarian Uprising in Budapest.

Rabiej on DGP Interview: Personal Life Questions Were Asked. My Answer Was Strictly Private. It's Neither the City Hall's, Nowoczesna's, nor KE's Position

The interview with Paweł Rabiej has become one of the political topics of the day – PiS politicians are already using his statement about child adoption. Now, the Deputy Mayor of Warsaw himself explains that questions about his personal life were asked in his conversation with "Dziennik Gazeta Prawna," and his answer was strictly private. – "It is neither the position of the City Hall, Nowoczesna, nor the European Coalition. I emphasized – I am very, very skeptical about the topic of adoption," he wrote on Twitter.

Rafał Trzaskowski is distancing himself from the words of Paweł Rabiej for "Dziennik Gazeta Prawna". - Warsaw's actions are guided by the fight against intolerance. Statements that go beyond the European Coalition's program can destroy our efforts in the fight against hate. I instructed Vice-Mayor Rabiej to focus solely on the tasks I assigned him - wrote the Mayor of Warsaw on Twitter.

New VAT Matrix Removed from Sejm Session Agenda. Following Accusations that PiS is Raising Taxes on Juices

The Sejm will not vote today on the draft concerning the new VAT matrix – the vote was on a motion to reject the government's proposal in the first reading. This decision was made following accusations that the Law and Justice (PiS) party is thus increasing VAT on juices made from Polish apples, while simultaneously lowering it on junk food and imported citrus fruits.

Earlier, an adjournment was announced, during which a meeting took place in the plenary hall between Jarosław Kaczyński and, among others, Deputy Minister of Finance Filip Świtała. After the decision to remove the government's draft from the voting agenda was announced, some parliamentarians – primarily from PiS – chanted "Jarosław, Jarosław!".

PiS MP Voted Against Poland's NATO Accession 20 Years Ago. Today, She Refuses to Discuss It.

Anna Sobecka was among the seven MPs of the III term Sejm who voted against the ratification of the North Atlantic Treaty in February 1999. Among the parliamentarians of the then Polish Agreement voting against were also Mariusz Grabowski, Jan Łopuszański, and Halina Nowina-Konopka – politicians long associated with the Radio Maryja milieu.

Sobecka is the only MP in the current term who opposed Poland's entry into NATO 20 years ago. Therefore, we wanted to know her current assessment of that vote and whether she still believes that NATO membership is unfavorable for Poland. Unfortunately, over three consecutive days of the current session, despite her initial declaration of willingness to talk, the MP avoided contact with us – mostly by picking up the phone and hanging up after a few seconds of silence, until she finally answered during a break between Friday's votes: "You're bothering me, and I have neither the time nor the inclination to talk."

In a 2006 article in Wysokie Obcasy, Sobecka assured that she was no longer against NATO membership, although she noted: "But I don't know if, should something threaten us, our allies would rush to our aid. Really, no one can be so sure."

Gazeta Wyborcza in 2006 quoted her Sejm statements about NATO: "I am against it because foreign troops commanded by a foreign general will be stationed in Szczecin. It will be a German or a Russian. Should, God forbid, any military actions be conducted, the commander of these troops takes over power in Poland. So, Poland will be ruled by a German or a Russian."

According to some reports, Sobecka is to be one of the politicians running for the European Parliament on a list supported by Father Tadeusz Rydzyk's circle.

As Fakt wrote, the MP's son, Tomasz Sobecki, two years ago received a nomination to the Supreme Audit Office (NIK) college from the hands of NIK President Krzysztof Kwiatkowski and Sejm Marshal Marek Kuchciński.

Kukiz:

No Agreement on Same-Sex Couple Adoption of Children

- There can be no agreement on the adoption of children by homosexual couples! In the late 90s and early 21st century, I helped the Lambda association in its efforts for tolerance. However, the moment homosexual couples started demanding the institution of marriage for themselves, I distanced myself from that community. The institution of marriage primarily serves the purpose of procreation. A child must have a mother and a father, if only to ensure the child's sexuality develops properly. It can later take a homosexual form, because various things happen, but sexuality cannot be suggested or imposed in any way - stated Paweł Kukiz in an interview with wPolityce.pl.

- A child cannot have two fathers or two mothers. It must have a mother and a father - he added. - Sexuality comes on its own. It cannot be imposed from the outside. And that's what's happening now. That's why I currently have a much more cautious attitude towards homosexual communities than before. I counted on the common sense of this group, but their demands are growing ever larger - emphasized the leader of Kukiz '15.

Krupka Proposes English-Language Debate to Jarubas

Anna Maria Krupka, a Member of Parliament, has challenged Michał Jarubas, another MP, to a public debate conducted entirely in English. The challenge was issued via Twitter.

Krupka's proposal stems from a disagreement regarding the understanding and presentation of Polish foreign policy and international relations. She stated on Twitter, "Mr. Jarubas, I propose a debate in English. This will allow us to demonstrate our knowledge of foreign policy and international relations on a different level."

The specific context for this challenge appears to be related to recent political discussions and potentially divergent views on Poland's role and standing in the international arena. By suggesting a debate in English, Krupka aims to elevate the discourse and underscore the importance of effective communication in foreign affairs.

This public invitation highlights the ongoing political dialogue and the competitive nature of political debate in Poland, with an added dimension of demonstrating linguistic proficiency as a tool for political engagement on the international stage.

Piotrowicz Not Removed as Justice Committee Chair. Gasiuk-Pihowicz: Everyone Who Voted to Keep Piotrowicz Essentially Sanctioned the Downplaying of Pedophilia
I have a question for Jarosław Kaczyński, who, having full knowledge of Mr. Piotrowicz's abhorrent conduct as a prosecutor over a dozen years ago, would President Kaczyński send his own family's children to kneel before the priest from Tylawa? If not, we still expect Mr. Piotrowicz to be removed from such a prominent position as the head of the justice committee. Today, we simply said to the PiS MPs: let's check. Today's vote was simply very straightforward. It was a test. Everyone who voted to keep Mr. Piotrowicz in this prominent position has, in a way, effectively given their consent to the downplaying of pedophilia. I appealed and continue to appeal to the PiS MPs to come to their senses. People, come to your senses. In the name of party interests, do you want to place them above the harm done to children? I am truly surprised by the PiS politicians that they accept someone like Stanisław Piotrowicz within their ranks, and in my opinion, this is a sign of their acceptance of a lenient attitude towards pedophilia – stated Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz at a briefing in the Sejm. Today, the parliamentary justice committee rejected the opposition MPs' motion to remove Stanisław Piotrowicz from his position as chairman of the parliamentary committee on justice and human rights.

Szymański:

Weber Expresses Paternalistic Views on the Poland Europe Expected. Western Politicians - 15 Years After Our EU Accession - Must Get Used to Poland Choosing Its Own Path in the EU, and It Will Stay That Way
I was very pleased by the proposals of Chairwoman Kramp-Karrenbauer, which clearly drew attention to the geopolitical significance of EU enlargement to Central European countries and emphasized the political identity and interests of our region. In this context, however, I must stress that we need more than declarations. At the same time, the German Christian Democrats' candidate for President of the European Commission, Manfred Weber, is expressing paternalistic views on the Poland Europe expects. Western politicians - 15 years after our accession to the EU - must get used to Poland choosing its own path in the EU, and it will stay that way - stated Konrad Szymański in an interview with wPolityce.pl. I cannot imagine a German Christian Democrat politician going to, say, the Netherlands and publicly musing that it would be best for the Netherlands if the Dutch CDA won the elections. Just as the Netherlands has the right to elect a liberal government, Poland has the right to elect a conservative government. Period! - emphasized the Minister for European Affairs. Given that the opposition in Poland does not understand this issue of the subjectivity of Polish democracy, it must be said that the European elections in May also concern this fundamental matter - double standards, which should be removed from European political life - he added in an interview with Marcin Fijołek. Asked how Weber's sharp stance affects potential cooperation between Poland and such a head of the EC, let alone a potential alliance within the EPP group, he replied: - Poland will cooperate subjectively and constructively with any jointly elected President of the EC. However, someone who is running for this position must be able to cooperate with all governments in the EU, regardless of their political orientation. I myself have many good experiences of parliamentary cooperation with Manfred Weber. We were elected in the same year, 2004, and for two parliamentary terms, we interacted despite our different political affiliations. Many things likely connect us, but on this matter, I must say clearly - let's respect each other.

Kosiniak-Kamysz Poses Three Questions to PiS: On the Polish Commissioner, EU Budget, and Farmer Subsidies. 'The EP Campaign Has Little or Nothing on Europe'
The European Parliament election campaign is underway, though this campaign features little or nothing about Europe. That is why the Polish People's Party (PSL), being part of the European Coalition, will strive to discuss matters that will be decided in the European Parliament, that will be decided by our MEPs who will not be preoccupied with ideological issues, but with concrete matters for Poland and for Poles. We are formulating three questions for PiS, so that they begin to answer questions regarding Europe, the EU, and Poland's position within the EU,” said the leader of the agrarian party, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, at a press conference.
  1. Who will be the next commissioner representing Poland in the European Commission?
  2. What budget will the PiS government negotiate for Poland?
  3. What will be the level of subsidies for Polish farmers in the new financial perspective?

15:21

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

We Do Not Support Same-Sex Marriage, and Therefore Do Not Support Child Adoption by These Marriages. This is Inconsistent with the Polish Constitution

If someone today claims that matters of marriage and worldview will be decided in the European Union, they are lying. We do not want anyone to mislead Polish public opinion on these matters, because these issues are neither part of any agreement within the European Coalition, nor will they be resolved in this campaign. I also want to state unequivocally that we do not support same-sex marriages, and therefore we do not support child adoption by these marriages, because it is automatic. If someone were to propose it, it would be an equalization and granting of these rights. This is inconsistent with the Polish constitution, where marriage is a union of a woman and a man. This is our position, and that is why we are in the European Coalition, to represent such a position” - said the leader of the agrarian party, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, at a press conference.

Schetyna:

I am convinced that at the very beginning of April, we will be able to present the complete coalition lists along with the program
We have already begun the process of nominating names, specific individuals. We are preparing for the National Council meeting, which will take place on March 23rd. These are the names of individuals who, I deeply believe, will be recommended by the National Council and will appear on the European Coalition lists. This concerns the first few positions for now. As you know, coalition talks are still ongoing. We have prepared and accepted the framework for this agreement. We have signed a declaration on the establishment of the European Coalition. A program team is already functioning. I am convinced that at the very beginning of April, after the approval of all decision-making bodies of the five political parties, we will be able to present the complete coalition lists along with the program – stated Grzegorz Schetyna at a briefing in the Sejm after the meeting of the Civic Platform's national board.

Schetyna:

I proposed Zdrojewski's return to national politics
I proposed, and I will continue to propose to [Bogdan Zdrojewski] a return to national politics. I want him to lead the Wrocław list in the parliamentary elections - stated Grzegorz Schetyna at a briefing in the Sejm after a meeting of the national board of Civic Platform (PO). As he emphasized, "we hear that Prime Minister Morawiecki will want to run from Wrocław, from this electoral district." I believe that Bogdan Zdrojewski will effectively lead the Platform's list, or the coalition that we manage to build, and will successfully bring many MPs to the Sejm, and we will win these elections across the country, and especially in Wrocław - he added.

Schetyna:

Hubner Did Not Accept My Proposal

- I made an offer to Danuta Hubner. She did not accept this proposal – stated Grzegorz Schetyna at a briefing in the Sejm after a meeting of the Civic Platform's national board.

Schetyna:

I do not accept Rabiej's statements. These are not statements from anyone in the European Coalition or from Civic Platform. These are private statements.
I spoke with President Trzaskowski today. I do not accept this statement [by Paweł Rabiej]. These are not statements from anyone in the European Coalition or from Civic Platform. These are private statements. I am surprised that a local government official speaks on such a matter, as he represents or should represent the residents of his city, because they are his voters. There is no and will be no such chance, such an element of the program, and we will not allow anyone who wishes ill upon the European Coalition to try to steer it towards the programmatic agenda of European, parliamentary, and any future elections - stated Grzegorz Schetyna at a briefing in the Sejm after a meeting of the national board of Civic Platform.

If PO and Schetyna Do Not Accept Mr. Rabiej's Words, They Should Immediately Make Decisive Decisions. Only Rabiej's Resignation Will Be Such

Platforma, perhaps see you around

Michał Boni - according to what Grzegorz Schetyna said at today's press conference - is to run from Warsaw from fifth place. However, the person concerned told "Gazeta Wyborcza" that since he was offered fifth place on the list in Warsaw, he will not run.

Czaputowicz Cancels Interview and Walks Out of RMF FM Studio. Zaborski: Minister Didn't Want to Discuss New Zealand Attack

Minister of Foreign Affairs Jacek Czaputowicz left the RMF FM studio before a scheduled interview upon learning that one of the questions would concern the attack in New Zealand. This information was provided on air by station journalist Marcin Zaborski.

- The minister stated that he was not forewarned, has no information on the subject, and is not prepared for the conversation because he does not know what happened in New Zealand. He referred us to his spokesperson. That's all I can say - said Zaborski, explaining Czaputowicz's absence.

Sikorski on Diplomatic Treason Investigation: My Intuition Suggests It's Heading Towards Charges Against Tusk
Everything Antoni Macierewicz touches turns into a grotesque. The suggestion that these dozens of Polish officials, politicians, who dealt with the Smolensk catastrophe and established its causes – for which not even a shadow of evidence has been found to challenge them – did so as a result of betraying Poland? It's simply absurd. It's also a vile defamation – said Radosław Sikorski in an interview with Katarzyna Kolenda-Zaleska on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach". - My intuition suggests, I got the impression, that this is heading towards charges against possibly Donald Tusk – added Sikorski.

Sikorski on Cimoszewicz and Miller: Today They Are Democrats and Their Europeanism is Authentic

- These are people who brought Poland into the European Union. So, of course, when they were active in the PZPR, I fought with them then. But today they are democrats and their Europeanism is authentic. Unlike their former colleagues from the right, who are insincere about the European Union - said Radosław Sikorski in an interview with Katarzyna Kolenda-Zaleska on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

Bielan:

EU Lists are a Lottery Machine. You Could Vote for Kalinowski in Mazovia to Elect a Pro-Same-Sex Marriage Advocate in Warsaw
It's interesting what the politicians of the Polish People's Party will say about all this, because unfortunately, the European Coalition lists are a lottery machine, as Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said. You could, for example, vote for Jarosław Kalinowski in Mazovia to elect some supporter of same-sex marriage or adoption by such couples in Warsaw. You could vote for Jarosław Kalinowski in Mazovia, who is for maintaining KRUS [Agricultural Social Insurance Fund] or social programs like 500+, to elect some politician from Nowoczesna [Modern party] who is for the liquidation of KRUS and the liquidation of the 500+ program – Adam Bielan said in an interview with Danuta Holecka on the TVP Info program 'Gość Wiadomości'.
