At 9:00 AM, the Sejm (Polish Parliament) will resume its session with a government current affairs briefing and questions on current issues. The Minister of Energy, at the request of Civic Platform (PO), will discuss energy price increases. PO MPs will also revisit issues concerning the Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) during the current questions session.

In the afternoon block of votes, scheduled from 6:30 PM, MPs will decide on a motion for the temporary arrest of Stanisław Gawłowski.

Several ministers are organizing press conferences to mark the 3rd anniversary of the Law and Justice (PiS) government's formation: Elżbieta Rafalska (at 9:30 AM), Jadwiga Emilewicz (at 10:00 AM), Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski (at 12:15 PM), and Andrzej Adamczyk (in Pruszków at 5:00 PM).

At 8:40 AM, the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, will hold his briefing at the Rondo Daszyńskiego metro station. At 11:00 AM, President Andrzej Duda will visit the Multinational Division North-East Headquarters in Elbląg.

At 1:00 PM in Gdańsk, a verdict is expected in the defamation lawsuit filed by Jarosław Kaczyński against Lech Wałęsa. The case concerns statements made by the former president suggesting that the PiS leader is responsible for the Smoleńsk disaster.

- The Civic Coalition in its current form, one could say, is an end of sorts. The Civic Coalition was supposed to be a new quality. I always had hope, I always dreamed that something could be built according to new principles. Principles based on trust, partnership, and above all diversity. What has happened now is simply that the Civic Platform has changed its name – said Katarzyna Lubnauer in an interview with Daniel Wydrych and Piotr Góćek on "Sygnały Dnia" on Jedynka radio.

- Civic Platform wanted to be effective in fighting PiS, but so far has proven effective in dismantling a coalition partner's club. I called it a hostile takeover, because one could probably call it that - said Katarzyna Lubnauer in an interview with Daniel Wydrych and Piotr Goćka on "Sygnały Dnia" on Jedynka radio.

- This is not a takeover [of Nowoczesna by Platforma], but building, integrating circles, and building a common [parliamentary] club. This is not a hostile [takeover]. It is with consent and at the initiative of the club's leader. I don't want to interfere in the internal relations of Nowoczesna. I don't want to and will not allow my political idea, or what we have discussed many times with Katarzyna Lubnauer and people from Nowoczesna, namely the integration process of both environments, to be something bad. I will not allow this situation, which is happening today, to be framed in negative relations and a negative context - stated Grzegorz Schetyna in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

• I know there are emotions in Nowoczesna. I know it will take time. But I have a meeting scheduled with her [Katarzyna Lubnauer], and I will continue, as I have done during months of our joint Civic Coalition campaign, to persuade her to integrate our circles and be ready for the European elections – stated Grzegorz Schetyna in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

- This isn't my club, it's our club, because it's a joint club of some MPs from Nowoczesna and the Civic Platform club. For months, I've been urging us to go into the local elections together and form the Civic Coalition (KO), I urged this to include Barbara Nowacka's circle. Today, I urge us to integrate the parliamentary club, to be together in parliament, because then our program offer and the coalitions, negotiations that we will build to broaden this coalition, this process will be more credible - stated Grzegorz Schetyna in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Piasecki's Conversation".

- I know it's not easy, but I believe that each group must give up a part of its sovereignty to provide a broad base for building a coalition, because that is what Poles expect - the PO leader continued.

- I feel good [about Nowoczesna in the coalition]. I feel worse about councillor Kałuża, who was nominated by Nowoczesna, and due to betrayal, gave back, forced upon usthe handover of the Silesian Regional Assembly. Of course, this is the responsibility of Nowoczesna, the regional authorities, and those who [put] these people on the list. This is a decision of the regional authorities, as Katarzyna Lubnauer and the party leadership explained to me - stated Grzegorz Schetyna in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

- We were in a situation where, during many conversations held in recent weeks, there were voices suggesting that Nowoczesna should run independently in the elections to the Sejm, the Senate, and also the European Parliament. These were voices that indicated the Civic Coalition would be destroyed - said Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz in an interview with Karolina Lewicka on "Poranek TOK FM".

- These voices appeared, they were voiced by various MPs, during different debates. For instance, there was Mr. Jerzy Meysztowicz, who presented such an option, there was Mr. Mirosław Suchoń, who spoke about it. Such an option was also presented by Mr. Adam Szłapka – added Gasiuk-Pihowicz.

- I, or rather Platforma, Nowoczesna, are not taking anything away. We have created a very well-functioning, victorious Civic Coalition. During the campaign, and also afterwards, I asked and spoke with Katarzyna Lubnauer and Adam Szłapka. I said that there is a need, the expectation of KO voters is that the integration process should progress. I believe that in the next election campaigns, we will expand the KO formula. So, the integration of environments is necessary - stated Grzegorz Schetyna in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

- I was facing a very difficult decision, but I made it bravely because I knew that on one hand, it would either be the demolition of Civic Coalition, the departure of Nowoczesna from Civic Coalition, or a real alternative would be created to build Civic Coalition. I am convinced that this invitation, which I continue to extend to the MPs of Nowoczesna to strengthen the Civic Coalition club, will be accepted - said Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz in an interview with Karolina Lewicka on "Poranek TOK FM".

- For now, we will be presenting the European program for the May elections. We have teams that are working and functioning. We will present them. We will hold three major conventions in January, March, and May. We will present them segment by segment. In January, we will present the first program segment, then there will be a big one in March, and another at the beginning of May - stated Grzegorz Schetyna in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

„After what happened yesterday, anyone who hears questions about alliances will be very cautious. What happened with Nowoczesna is a kind of memento for all of us who perhaps naively thought. I was accused of being a dreamer, frivolous, of not seeing the seriousness of the moment and that it was necessary to join Platforma and KO and not to scheme anything. Today it turns out that I probably did well by remaining distanced from this project, which was solely aimed at strengthening Civic Platform, not democracy in our country” – said Robert Biedroń in an interview with Karolina Lewicka on TOK FM Radio's Poranek. 

“I travel across Poland and we discuss our program. It turns out that Polish men and women aren’t asking me at all if I will do this with Basia, Grzesiek, Włodek, or Adrian. Such questions don’t come up at all. Questions about how many more monuments we will erect, or which marches we will participate in, are not being asked. People talk about what hurts them: healthcare, education, transport exclusion, a secular state, the lack of regulations regarding registered partnerships, smog. These are the things that hurt them, and they come to express their frustration and to think about how to solve them so that they finally work” – said Robert Biedroń in an interview with Karolina Lewicka on Radio TOK FM’s morning show. 

- This was probably a well-thought-out and planned action [regarding PO taking over Nowoczesna MPs]. A poll showing that uniting the opposition gives them 50%, and then the attempt to merge. We saw it yesterday. No, I always repeat this. We do the same thing good athletes do. Stoch and Małysz always say they focus on what they do, on their work. When we did a certain summary, many journalists asked me how to summarize these three years, it was primarily great diligence, enormous diligence of the ministers, Prime Minister Szydło. That's how it was. We really don't have time to play ball, to rest with our families. We do all of this at the expense of our families – stated Stanisław Karczewski in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

- Various terms are used. That [Grzegorz Schetyna] consumed, devoured. In practice, Nowoczesna practically doesn't exist, they don't have a [parliamentary] club. This is already a major hindrance to the functioning of such a structure in the Sejm. Shorter statements, fewer opportunities. They are in big trouble. Well, yes, everything points to that [that it's over for Nowoczesna]. This process of liquidation or annihilation of Nowoczesna began with Mr. Petru's trip to Madeira. Gradually, gradually. It was visible in the polls, by the way – added the Marshal of the Senate.

- Father Tadeusz Rydzyk is not a politician. I know Father Director very well, I talk to him very often. He is a wonderful person and I know for a fact that he is certainly not the initiator of this party [True Europe Movement] - stated Stanisław Karczewski in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

- Father Director does not nominate anyone at all [in the European Parliament elections]. We talk with Father Director because we meet on various occasions, but there are never any people recommended by him - added the Marshal of the Senate.

- I believe that this pressure on the Constitutional Tribunal [from MPs regarding abortion], this one instance of pressure, was unnecessary. My signature was not on it. The Constitutional Tribunal is independent and should operate in the manner it plans for itself - stated Stanisław Karczewski in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

„I think Platforma could have refrained from accepting people who left the club. Previously, we had an unwritten agreement not to poach each other's MPs. It cannot be described as anything other than [treachery]. Such actions and betrayals harm the entire project. Civic Coalition gave people a lot of hope that things could be better, that we could reach an agreement. And now it suddenly turns out that this agreement is not as good as it seemed, because it is not based on partnership” - said Adam Szłapka from Nowoczesna in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus. 

– The first social goal has been achieved, and surely today many families can no longer imagine life without the 'five hundred' program, or how they previously struggled with material problems while raising more than three, four, or five children – said Elżbieta Rafalska, summarizing three years of PiS rule at the Ministry of Family, Labour, and Social Policy.

“Everything is possible. I believe that one part of the discussion will be the integration of clubs. Here, I will insist and urge. I believe it will be easier for us to overcome difficult relations, sometimes personal conflicts. We need to look for solutions here. The dust will settle, and it will be worth discussing what comes next” - said the leader of Civic Platform (PO), Grzegorz Schetyna, in a conversation with journalists in the Sejm.

When asked about a meeting with Katarzyna Lubnauer, he replied: “I think today, maybe tomorrow”.

„If you want to tell me that creating one, common club, the largest opposition club, is equivalent to losing identity, then it means you don't have an identity. We need to build the identity of both groups by creating one group that will give Poles hope and a chance that we will defeat PiS” - said the leader of Civic Platform (PO), Grzegorz Schetyna, in an interview with journalists in the Sejm.

- Suggestions are appearing today, and if Nowoczesna is in such a difficult situation, perhaps a Deputy Speaker of the Sejm for PSL. Thank you very much, we are not interested, we will not accept such an offer because the standards at the beginning of this term were not upheld. Every parliamentary club that is formed should have a seat in the Presidium of the Sejm - said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in an interview with Agnieszka Burzyńska on the program "Fakt Opinie".

The authorities of the Freedom Party and the National Movement have finalized talks on a joint run and signed an agreement establishing an electoral coalition, which will register a coalition election committee for the European Parliament elections in February 2019. As stated in the communiqué:

"The conclusion of an agreement by our circles aims to present one common electoral list. We will bring a strong representation of Poles with anti-EU, libertarian, conservative, national, and Catholic views into the European Parliament.

Our coalition responds to calls for the unification of anti-EU forces and is open to other partners. We want cooperation with circles that share similar views to ours on the European Union and the independence of the Republic of Poland. Our goal is the uncompromising defense of our Homeland against Brussels centralism, left-wing tendencies supported by the EU, foreign pressures, and the representation of Polish national interest in the European Parliament. We invite all supporters of our ideas to join the common struggle that awaits us in the spring of 2019."

The Warsaw Regional Court has ordered former President Lech Wałęsa to apologize to Law and Justice (PiS) leader Jarosław Kaczyński. The court ruled on Tuesday that Wałęsa must publicly retract his previous statements made about Kaczyński.

The lawsuit stems from comments made by Wałęsa in 2016, during which he referred to Kaczyński as a “creator of discord” and accused him of “destroying Poland.” Kaczyński subsequently sued Wałęsa for defamation.

The court found that Wałęsa's statements were unfounded and damaging to Kaczyński's reputation. The ruling mandates that Wałęsa issue a written apology within 14 days of the judgment becoming legally binding. The apology must be published in a prominent national newspaper and on Wałęsa's official Facebook page.

Lech Wałęsa, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and a key figure in the Solidarity movement that led to the collapse of communism in Poland, has often been critical of the current government led by PiS. Jarosław Kaczyński, on the other hand, is the influential chairman of PiS and a dominant figure in Polish politics.

This ruling adds another chapter to the ongoing political tensions and legal disputes between prominent figures from different eras of Polish democracy.

„We have further information related to the biggest financial scandal of recent decades, the KNF scandal, a scandal involving individuals directly pointed to by the Prime Minister, the head of the National Bank of Poland, a scandal concerning tens of millions in ransom in a gangster-style of conducting politics. We have new media information about various deals made with suspicious individuals by the head of the KNF, but also answers to questions posed by Civic Platform MPs at today's Sejm session. Today, only a parliamentary inquiry committee appointed by the Sejm can clarify the KNF scandal, because the actors in this scandal also include state institutions that are supposed to clarify this scandal, namely the prosecutor's office, special services, and other individuals who are or were involved in the process of appointing these people to positions” - said the head of the Civic Platform-KO club, Sławomir Neumann, at a press conference in the Sejm.

Civic Platform-KO also appeals for the acceleration of work on the resolution to establish an inquiry committee and to introduce it for debate during the current Sejm session.

- We received today's court verdict in the Jarosław Kaczyński vs. Lech Wałęsa case with satisfaction. We are satisfied with this verdict. There were no grounds to bring such accusations as Lech Wałęsa made against Jarosław Kaczyński, and we trust that Wałęsa will comply with this verdict - stated Beata Mazurek in an interview with journalists in the Sejm.

- It is no secret that we have a PiS parliamentary club meeting tomorrow. I want to state clearly and unequivocally that the decision regarding tomorrow's club meeting was made much earlier than the information about the appearance or attempt to register a new political party surfaced - stated Beata Mazurek in an interview with journalists in the Sejm.

- At this meeting, we will discuss what we need to do in the context of the upcoming elections, both for the European Parliament and the Polish parliament, but there will also be an assessment of current political activities and what is happening in the country - added the PiS spokesperson.

- It has been known for a long time that Nowoczesna is a side dish to Civic Platform on the one hand, and on the other hand, switching from one club to another is nothing new in politics. However, Gasiuk-Pihowicz, as the leader of the parliamentary club, certainly dealt a stab in the back to Katarzyna Lubnauer. I am curious if the party colleagues who are switching will comment on it in the same way, using such harsh words as they did regarding councilor Kałuża - stated Beata Mazurek in an interview with journalists in the Sejm.

- We haven't considered, we haven't discussed this yet. We haven't considered such an eventuality. This decision and discussion are ahead of us - stated Beata Mazurek in a conversation with journalists in the Sejm, when asked about the future of Barbara Dolniak in the position of Deputy Sejm Speaker.

- You took one sentence out of the entire article. The whole article refers to the fact that Poland is often portrayed, including by Germany, as the biggest polluter and the biggest emitter of CO2 - said Błażej Spychalski in an interview with Marcin Zaborski on RMF FM's "Popołudniowa Rozmowa" (Afternoon Conversation).

- The core issue is that Germany emits over 22% of European CO2 emissions, while Poland emits 8.5%, yet Poland is presented as the biggest polluter in Europe - Spychalski added.

- The interim measure is, in my opinion, exceptionally unfortunate. Because by implementing the interim measure, we are de facto implementing the charges brought by the European Commission. But that's the law, you know. If such a measure exists, then the government made a decision, it must also be remembered that it was the government that decided to submit such a bill - said Błażej Spychalski in an interview with Marcin Zaborski on RMF FM's "Popołudniowa Rozmowa".

The Sejm has granted consent for the criminal prosecution and the application of the preventive measure of temporary detention for Member of Parliament Stanisław Gawłowski. 239 MPs voted "for," 175 against, and 18 abstained.

– I try to separate personal emotions from politics. I didn't enter politics to make friends; I have friends outside of politics. Responsibility matters most to me. Many things can be said about me, but for the past three years, it certainly cannot be said that I am not responsible – said Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz in an interview with Grzegorz Kajdanowicz on the TVN24 program “Fakty po faktach”.

- I am a down-to-earth politician, a lawyer; I won't be fooled by promises that Civic Coalition will ever be formed - said Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz in an interview with Grzegorz Kajdanowicz on the TVN24 program "Fakty po faktach" (Facts after facts).

- No real steps were taken in Nowoczesna (Modern) indicating that Nowoczesna would not leave Civic Coalition, quite the opposite – Gasiuk-Pihowicz added.

- Regarding the financial situation of Nowoczesna, I wanted to state at the very beginning that when my husband and I entered politics, we agreed that each of us would operate on a separate account. Therefore, Article 130 of the Electoral Code clearly indicates that the financial representative, who was my husband, bears responsibility for the electoral campaign's financial matters, and we are aware of this - said Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz in an interview with Grzegorz Kajdanowicz on the TVN24 program "Fakty po faktach".
