Rumors of Polish Initiative's Support for PO Coalition, But Nowacka Denies
Barbara Nowacka was reportedly set to appear at the Civic Coalition's convention next Saturday – this unofficial information circulated in the political world on Thursday. According to three independent sources, it's possible that the Polish Initiative would be "swallowed up" by Civic Platform, which would pose a significant obstacle to the formation of a "new left." Even earlier, the management board of the Polish Initiative was convened for the upcoming Saturday, and its proceedings might be so turbulent that our sources do not rule out a split within this already quite small organization. Left-wing politicians we spoke with throughout the evening did not hide their disappointment if the rumors of Nowacka's capitulation in building a broader left-wing front were to be confirmed. Barbara Nowacka, when asked late Thursday evening by 300POLITYKA if she would propose the Polish Initiative joining the Civic Coalition, stated that she did not know where such information came from. "I have no such proposal planned," she added. The management board of the Polish Initiative will meet on Saturday to discuss the pre-election situation. "It's possible that concrete decisions will be made – one way or the other," suggests one person closely associated with the Initiative. Newsweek wrote about Nowacka's talks with Civic Platform two weeks ago, albeit regarding running for Parliament, but for many months, speculation has been rife that she would replace Danuta Huebner at the head of Civic Platform's Warsaw list in the European elections. TOK FM itself, reporting on Karolina Lewicka's interview with Nowacka last week, wrote about an evasive answer to a question about Civic Platform: "- Aren't you shuddering at the thought of running for parliament on the Civic Coalition's list? - Karolina Lewicka asked. - I gladly think about myself being able to implement the left's program - Barbara Nowacka answered evasively." In the local government elections, the Polish Initiative is running in various constellations. In Warsaw, Paulina Piechna-Więckiewicz is a candidate for vice-mayor alongside Jan Śpiewak, and the Polish Initiative is a member of a coalition with RAZEM, the Greens, and Śpiewak's organization. However, Barbara Nowacka has repeatedly distanced herself from coalitions, and when appearing on Zuzanna Dąbrowska's Rzeczpospolita video program, she wished her close collaborator success not in becoming Vice-Mayor of Warsaw, but a councilor: "She is a guarantor of a good program. And I hope that Paulina Piechna-Więckiewicz will be a councilor for the next term, because for three terms I simply consider her a great councilor." The Polish Initiative has its candidate for the mayor of Poznań. He is the highly-rated incumbent deputy mayor – Tomasz Lewandowski, who has gathered the entire left around him – from RAZEM and the Greens to the SLD. Lewandowski is running against Jacek Jaśkowiak, supported by Civic Platform and Modern, who recently stated that "a chivalrous rivalry is not a problem in cooperation." In Łódź, Nowacka's Polish Initiative is not part of Hanna Zdanowska's committee – unlike the SLD and Civic Platform – but is forming the "Tak dla Łodzi" (Yes to Łódź) coalition. However, there is talk that Dariusz Joński might run from the first spot on the Civic Platform and Modern list for the regional assembly. A peculiar situation is unfolding in Koszalin, where the Polish Initiative, through the presence of well-known councilor Adam Ostaszewski, is part of the non-partisan "Lepszy Koszalin" (Better Koszalin) committee, whose presidential candidate was Wiktor Kamieniarz, a popular high school director who could pose a significant threat to the incumbent mayor from Civic Platform. At the moment Kamieniarz clearly ruled out the possibility of a post-election coalition with Civic Platform, he was forced to withdraw his nomination from "Lepszy Koszalin," but a few days ago he announced that he would be running with his own committee. "All of this is without any guiding principle, apart from, of course, the idea of getting somewhere," summarizes a well-known left-wing politician. photo. Tomasz Sybilski, FB

Jaki Campaigned in Wilanów Until Late at Night

Poręba:

I Won't Hide That I Want These Elections to Be Better, More Successful for PiS. In 2011, We Were Internally Divided, Squabbling
If I were afraid of [losing the election], I probably wouldn't have taken on this challenge now [of heading the campaign]. I'm an athlete, I used to be, I like competition. I'm an ambitious person, and that sting of defeat from 2011 still remains with me. I won't hide that I want these elections to be better, more successful for PiS, and in 2011, they were indeed difficult elections because we were internally divided, squabbling. Now it's different – stated Tomasz Poręba in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on "Trójka Political Salon."

08:49

Poręba:

Jaki Says It Wasn't Possible Before, But Now It Is

- Patryk Jaki described it quite well and also instrumentalized it regarding budget and funding assumptions. He is a man who says that it wasn't possible before, but now it is. Don't tell us it can't be done. Please ask him for specific numbers [regarding the metro], but I trust that a person like Jaki, who is running in Warsaw and is a candidate, will keep his word - stated Tomasz Poręba in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on 'Trójka's Political Salon'.

08:57

Poręba:

Next Week, After the Convention, There Will Be Interesting Proposals Visualizing Our Programmatic Message

- It will be a very dynamic, good, programmatic local government convention, with interesting proposals also for Polish local governments, because we are in the midst of a local government campaign, and President Kaczyński, as well as Prime Minister Morawiecki, will be talking about PiS's long-term strategy for the coming months and elections, but also about specific proposals that will reach local governments – stated Tomasz Poręba in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on "Trójka Political Salon".

- There will be interesting, intriguing proposals that I think will resonate with the emotions and expectations of our citizens – he added. – After this convention, in the following week, there will be interesting proposals visualizing our programmatic message – announced the head of the PiS election staff.

Patryk Jaki Presents His Educational Program:

We Want Warsaw to be the Capital of Modern Education.
“We want Warsaw to be a true leader when it comes to educational solutions. A true European leader. We want Warsaw to be the capital of modern education. Therefore, we want to propose a program that has been consulted with experts and practitioners, which we will implement if I become the President of Warsaw. I want to remind you that one of my most important projects, if I become president, will be the immediate commencement of building 50 crèches and kindergartens. In this context, the elements of the program I want to talk about are important” – stated Patryk Jaki at a conference in Jaki Cafe. He added:
“Transparent and completely reformed recruitment for crèches and kindergartens. Today, it is often the case that parents do not know why their child did not get into a crèche or kindergarten. This information comes too late, and then it’s hard to organize. This cannot be the case in Warsaw. Parents must be sure that their child is under the right care, that they will always get a place in the crèche or kindergarten, and also in schools in their district. This is a very important element of our program. Therefore, educational safety for children. That’s why we want to launch a program, including, for example, public kindergartens, available year-round. Warsaw can afford it.”
- “We want to offer a guarantee of a place in a kindergarten, in the district where the parents live. This will be a very significant matter. We want to ensure that children and parents in Warsaw are safe, that they have certainty that their children will get into crèches, that they will have places for their children in crèches and kindergartens, but also in schools, that education will be at the appropriate level, that it will not be conducted in shifts, and that there will also be suitable activities after school” – stated the United Right candidate for the President of Warsaw. He emphasized that he is convinced that if he becomes president, education will finally be accessible to everyone.

Bielan:

I Think We Have a Good Chance in Half of the Regional Assemblies

We will be talking about our vision for local governments, about a program for Polish regions. We are revealing elements of this program in successive cities. We will try to make Poles aware of how important these elections are, both in our small homelands and for the regional assemblies” - said the Deputy Marshal of the Senate, Adam Bielan, during a morning broadcast on the Catholic radio station 'Siódma9'.

I think we have a good chance in half of the regional assemblies. We have enormous chances across the entire eastern belt, i.e., Podkarpackie, Podlaskie, and Lubelskie. We have enormous chances for an independent majority in the Małopolskie, Świętokrzyskie, Łódzkie, and Mazowieckie voivodeships. With potential coalition partners, we can co-govern in one or two voivodeships in western Poland” - he added.

09:30

Bielan:

Our Candidates in Large Cities Must Run Excellent Campaigns, Must Avoid Making Mistakes

"We know that [in cities] a coalition of the wicked against one might form, everyone against us. That is why our candidates in large cities must run excellent campaigns, they must avoid making mistakes. Praise them for deciding to run such campaigns. I am full of admiration for my colleagues who are running in large cities" - said Deputy Marshal Adam Bielan on the morning program 'Siódma9'.

09:33

Nowacka:

I'm Glad There's Civic Coalition. It's Good to Have Strong Opposition to PiS. I'm Worried About Left-Wing Fragmentation
You'll have to ask someone from Civic Platform why they'd invite me [to the PO convention]. Believe me, we don't make any decisions just like that. There are no decisions. I don't know what I'll be doing, I don't know when the Civic Platform convention is. That's also how political life works, we don't craft some grand plans. I'm very glad there's the Civic Coalition. It's good that there's a strong opposition to PiS. I'm glad a left-wing agreement has been formed in Poznań, running for the city. I'm worried about the fragmentation on the left. That's all - stated Barbara Nowacka in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News' "Polityczne Graffiti". When asked if she talks with Grzegorz Schetyna, she replied: Yes, like with everyone, we see each other from time to time and also talk about what to do to restore at least the foundations of liberal democracy in Poland in 2019. Because that seems to me to be the fundamental goal today. Late last night, on 300POLITYKA, we wrote about rumors of the Polish Initiative's support for the Civic Platform coalition

Bielan on PAD's White House Visit: Confirmation of Very Good, Perhaps Best Ever Polish-American Relations

This visit is a confirmation of very good, perhaps the best ever Polish-American relations. We have the highest level of trade exchange, American investments in Poland. Still, a relatively low level of Polish investments in the United States. I hope this will change for the better. Above all, we have the highest level of military cooperation” - said Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Adam Bielan, in an interview with Marcin Fijołek on the morning program of Catholic radio stations 'Siódma9'.

Trzaskowski Presents Election Slogan:

Warsaw for Everyone

At the end of the campaign, there will likely be a debate with all candidates. In the second round, with those two who make it to the second round. I am open to debate. The details will be decided by the campaign teams. As of now, there are 58 invitations. There probably won't be 58 debates, we will organize one, prepare thoroughly for it, and the campaign teams will discuss the details” - said Rafał Trzaskowski at a press conference.

The fight will be incredibly tough, until the very end. Nothing is certain, nothing is decided. We will have to fight for every vote of every Varsovian woman and every Varsovian man. Hence the slogan 'Warsaw for Everyone,' because we need to take care of every vote. Only the person who truly tries and conducts this campaign, by talking to Varsovians, and not just doing superficial actions, will be able to win this campaign” - he added.

Gersdorf:

I hope Piotrowicz apologizes to me

- Perhaps [I will consider legal action against MP Piotrowicz]. But I hope he apologizes to me - stated Małgorzata Gersdorf in an interview with TVN24.

10:56

Gersdorf:

I am not a fighter, I am not an insurgent, so please do not expect that from me

- Until 2020 [I will come to work]. The authorities do as they please, and I do what I must. What is consistent with what I have committed and sworn to. These are not empty words – stated Małgorzata Gersdorf in an interview with TVN24.

When asked what would happen if her successor arrived, she stated: - We shall see what happens. For now, he is not coming. I am not a fighter, I am not an insurgent, so please do not expect that from me.

Civic Platform at the Commemoration of the August Accords: Schetyna Says Gdańsk and 1980 Represent a Great Commitment

As every year, we are here, we have the great pleasure to be with President Lech Wałęsa here, in this sacred place for Polish history, to lay flowers, to remember this history, but also to treat this place and the time of 1980 as a great commitment. We have a whole cycle of elections ahead of us. We treat this as a great challenge, remembering what the heroes of 1980 said, the fight for a sovereign, independent Poland, for dignity. Today, this great legacy of Polish freedom is in our hands, which is why we take these elections and electoral challenges very seriously. We will do everything to defend local government, to defend civil liberties, democracy, and Poland's presence in the European Union” - said Grzegorz Schetyna in Gdańsk.

38 years ago, it was precisely here that the first step towards freedom was taken, a freedom that some do not respect and are destroying. The upcoming local government elections are the first step towards proving that we respect this value, that we are trying to regain it. We have many challenges to make Poland an even better country to live in, a country where incidents like the current government do not happen” - added Katarzyna Lubnauer.

Trzaskowski:

Anyone Who Knows Anything About Campaigns Knows Slogans Are Prepared Weeks in Advance

- First of all, Warsaw is for everyone. I am glad that this philosophy, which I have been presenting for many months, a philosophy based on investing in people, on fighting discrimination, on making Warsaw genuinely for everyone, is shared by other contenders. I understand that this is in a way a foreshadowing that Mr. Guział will vote for me. Speaking quite seriously, a statement has been issued by the campaign staff on this matter. Anyone who knows anything about campaigns knows that slogans are prepared for weeks, especially for printing, because these billboards will soon be hanging on Warsaw streets. It is also enough to check what lies behind the internet domain associated with this slogan – stated Rafał Trzaskowski at a briefing.

Civic Platform Presents Candidate for Mayor of Słupsk

Civic Platform (KO) has presented its candidate for the upcoming mayoral election in Słupsk. The announcement was made via a tweet from Sławomir Neumann, a prominent figure within the party, shared on August 31, 2018. The tweet, available at the provided Twitter link, likely details the chosen candidate and potentially some of their initial campaign platform points or the reasoning behind their selection.

Campaign Headquarters Statement: Attempts to Undermine the Credibility of the "Warsaw for All" Slogan Are Solely a Political Attack Aimed at Trzaskowski

- Rafał Trzaskowski's slogan is one of the main points of the outdoor campaign, commissioned a few days ago. Billboards with this slogan will appear in various locations in the capital in the coming hours - wrote Jarosław Szostakowski in a statement sent to the media. As emphasized, "attempts to undermine the credibility of the 'Warsaw for All' slogan are solely a political action aimed at Trzaskowski".

Holidays Further Strengthen Morawiecki, While the Opposition Shows No Alternative to Schetyna
Polish politics after the holidays is all about Morawiecki and Schetyna. The Prime Minister's office has gained a level of effectiveness not seen since the times of Tusk, and Civic Platform is regaining its steerability. There is likely almost no one on the right today who wouldn't admit that Morawiecki is proving himself as a frontman. Although his fate naturally depends on the electoral cycle, even critics from his first term as prime minister have come to terms with the fact that there is no alternative to Morawiecki today. Jarosław Kaczyński has put an end to speculation about who will lead the right into the elections, and Morawiecki is diligently repaying the trust of the Law and Justice party leader, partly through his holiday offensive. If anyone decisively won the holidays on a national scale, it was Morawiecki, who throughout August traveled from farmers to the Baltic base of Polish aviators, from scouts to another regional PiS convention. Even the usually malicious Super Express noticed this, giving a front-page headline: "He sent his family on holiday and works himself." He emerged victorious from the EU summit, reshuffling the regional coalition and finding common ground with neighboring prime ministers. He resolved the issue of Ekstraklasa financing and rewarded the Olympians. He has organized relations with key centers on the right, appearing multiple times with Joachim Brudziński. The government machinery is working, and the Prime Minister's office has gained an effectiveness not seen since the times of Tusk. Grzegorz Schetyna is clearly emerging from the holidays strengthened on the opposition side. He traveled across Poland with Katarzyna Lubnauer (also a positive for Civic Platform, as The Moderns achieved disproportionately much relative to their potential), announcing successive Civic Coalition candidates. Rafał Trzaskowski's campaign, which resembled more of a muddle of mistakes than the expected Blitzkrieg, only highlighted to Platform politicians that while Schetyna may not be a showman who captivates crowds, he is a safe pair of hands for preparing the structures of the liberal opposition for a more balanced fight against PiS than might have been expected earlier. It was Schetyna who launched the first successful attack on PiS. The populist billboards became one of the most important topics of the summer, and the Platform regained morale that was lacking after the Warsaw campaign, which was spent carefree among bees. There is no one today who would threaten Schetyna's leadership on this side, and if anyone seriously wrote that, for example, Borys Budka could threaten him, they are likely trying to forget it shamefully. The President of the Republic lost the referendum issue across the board, delivered a meaningless speech at the National Assembly convened for the 550th anniversary of parliamentarism, and – to the delight of the opposition's minor players – did retaliate with a veto on the electoral law. But who remembers this today, even though it was only 3 weeks ago? He then proceeded with his visit to Australia and New Zealand, which was shortened compared to the original plans but rather unnecessary. In New Zealand, he teetered on the edge of the meme-worthy, previously reserved for his predecessor. The oceanic Far East does not suit presidents. Andrzej Duda emerges from the holidays weaker than ever, with obvious questions about the meaning of his presidency. The Speakers of Parliament likely rested, blissfully enjoying the exceptionally sunny summer. This might be for the best for the ruling camp. Włodzimierz Czarzasty has certainly gained, skillfully making a change in the capital for the much more promising Andrzej Rozenek. Behind the scenes, Czarzasty is finalizing rather interesting local government lists that may even allow him to increase his local government holdings, thanks to skillful alliances in Wrocław, Kraków, Łódź, and Poznań. Symptomatic was Krzysztof Pacewicz's article in Gazeta Wyborcza, calling for pragmatism from the left. But this pragmatism on the left is today called Włodzimierz Czarzasty, without whom there is no serious left-wing politics today with 6-8% support. The holidays also revealed new political engines. While Rafał Trzaskowski showed that he is not a national leader for the Platform under favorable Warsaw conditions, Patryk Jaki, under equally unfavorable circumstances, carried the significant burden of the entire right-wing campaign for a long time. In general, PiS candidates are performing much better than one might expect, given their rather unspectacular presentation at Nowogrodzka Street. Kacper Płażyński, Sylwester Tułajew, and Waldemar Buda have become future-oriented politicians in their regions, regardless of the election results, in which they are indeed running without an excessively high bar set for them.

13:48

PM:

On behalf of the Government of the Republic, I thank the shipyard workers who stood on the barricades of freedom, who proved to be worthy heirs of all who fought for Poland.

“For me, for my generation, and for all Poles, those days 38 years ago, and especially that day 38 years ago, were a great, exceptional victory. A victory of unity, of the will to fight, and above all, it was a fight for freedom in an enslaved country. Anna Walentynowicz, who was the godmother of those days and the godmother of ‘Solidarity,’ said after her release from prison in 1984: ‘Let us not harm anyone. Let us learn to forgive.’ It was exceptional in those times that, although it was a call for a new social contract in that enslaved state, no one wanted revenge then; it was the outstretched hand of ‘Solidarity’ to all who ruled Poland at that time,” said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki during the celebrations of the 38th anniversary of the signing of the August Accords in Gdańsk.

“On behalf of the Government of the Republic, I wanted first and foremost to thank the shipyard workers who stood on those barricades of freedom back then, who proved to be worthy heirs of the defenders of the Polish Post Office in Gdańsk, heirs of all who fought and worked for Poland in past centuries. I also thank everyone who has contributed to keeping the memory of ‘Solidarity’ and those times alive since then. Even though we differ in our assessment, especially of the transformation, of what happened after 1989, I am glad that more and more of us, just as around the person of John Paul II, are gathering around this beautiful word, and not just a word, ‘Solidarity.’ A word that was born here,” he added.

Guział to Sue Trzaskowski in Electoral Proceedings

- I will take legal action against him [Rafał Trzaskowski]. This will be the first lawsuit in electoral proceedings. I expect Trzaskowski to withdraw his slogan. Let him come up with his own. The main assumptions of his program are borrowed either from Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz's programs, even from 2006, or from the programs of his opponents. First, Mr. Trzaskowski claimed that the construction of the III and IV metro lines is irrelevant, and then he said that in reality, even a V metro line is possible. He lacks originality. I have never encountered anything so vulgar – stated Piotr Guział in an interview with wPolityce.pl.

Schetyna on Biedroń: He Chose a Nationwide Career, He's Leaving Słupsk, That's His Decision

- We are not divided from Robert Biedroń. That cooperation, as you say, was exemplary, very good. Marshal Struk comes from local government and breathes local government. For him, these matters are paramount, and he never looked at differences or political affiliations. He simply strived for the balanced development of Pomerania. It must be that on the part of this municipal, commune, and district government, there is also a willingness to cooperate, there is one hundred percent commitment to local affairs, to the problems of residents, to building a community of thought, and also of emotion. Then something can be achieved – said Grzegorz Schetyna at a press conference in Słupsk.

- I am not forbidding anyone from engaging in big politics; we ourselves participate in important projects, but it is difficult to combine local government, effective functioning in local government, with big politics, which takes time, emotions, and commitment, as in the case of nationwide projects – Schetyna added.

- We were interested in comprehensive cooperation, unfortunately, he did not undertake such discussions. In my opinion, it's a pity, because one could have tried to look for a new quality in politics for the benefit of the residents. He chose a nationwide career, he is leaving Słupsk, that is his decision. We can respect it and do everything to ensure that the next mayor of Słupsk is one hundred percent focused on the matters of Słupsk residents – stated the PO chairman.

- I don't have such secret knowledge. I hear things, I walk around the parliamentary corridors a bit, I talk to journalists. I'm talking about Warsaw, about what's happening in Warsaw – Grzegorz Schetyna added when asked about Robert Biedroń leaving Słupsk.

Morawiecki:

Our Government, the Law and Justice Government, Feels Like the Heir of 'Solidarity'

This torch of freedom, which the communists were no longer able to extinguish, which martial law was unable to halt, because there are dates, there are events, around which we are united to a great extent, just as we are united around John Paul II. We may differ on the breakthrough of 1989 and the subsequent years of transformation, but I am glad that the year 1980 and that rebellion, today the memory of our collective hero, of 'Solidarity,' unites us increasingly. This is what I wish for myself and for all of Poland, that we carry our great heritage of 'Solidarity' into the future” – said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on the 38th anniversary of the signing of the August Agreements.

Our government, the Law and Justice government, feels like the heir of 'Solidarity.' We are heirs to the great tradition of 'Solidarity,' which was the 20th-century emanation of the struggle for our freedom and yours” – he added.

Piotrowicz Responds to Gersdorf: "I Never Said Anything Offensive Towards Professor. I Have Nothing to Apologize For."

- The media showed many such cases, and of those who behaved scandalously in other ways and continue to adjudicate. Disciplinary proceedings in these cases did not end effectively; after all, such judges were acquitted in the highest instances. Therefore, I say that the judiciary should cleanse itself of such judges. I never said anything offensive towards Professor. I have nothing to apologize for - stated Stanisław Piotrowicz in an interview with wPolityce.pl.

18:08

PAD:

What Else Can We Call It But an Illness That Judges Who Sentenced Independence Underground Fighters During Martial Law Still Rule in the Supreme Court?

- The facts are that a bloodless revolution, essentially, has occurred in Poland. People weren't shot in the streets, as happened here in Gdańsk, Gdynia in 1970. Today, there aren't tens, hundreds, or thousands of crosses over the graves of young people who, like me, were 17, 18 years old then, and who might have been ready to fight for a free Poland with weapons in hand. However, we are paying a price for this, and we are all aware of it. This price also includes illnesses that have continuously, though to a lesser extent, been eroding our State since that time. Because what else can we call it but an illness that judges who sentenced independence underground fighters during martial law still rule in the Supreme Court? We all know today that this is the case, but the truth is only coming out after almost 30 years. There are people there who participated in the communist repressive apparatus – said Andrzej Duda during a mass at St. Bridget's Basilica in Gdańsk.

18:34

Duda:

Together with "Solidarity," We Can Raise the Minimum Wage

- I deeply believe that together with "Solidarity" and people dedicated to the cause, indeed a truly solidary Poland, a society of solidarity, a solidarity of those in power with those who elected them, we will be able to raise the minimum wage, we will be able to create further elements that will allow everyone in Poland to live with dignity, every family, every person who wants it. So that people feel that Poland is prosperous, and above all, that they feel that Poland is a just country. Just in every aspect, including the dimension of justice. I ask you, be with us. I ask you, speak up if you think a mistake is being made somewhere. A mistake can always be corrected. Illnesses must be cured, even if the therapy is difficult – said Andrzej Duda during a mass in St. Bridget's Basilica in Gdańsk.

Duda Questions Opposition's Silence During Times of Hardship and the Demise of the Gdańsk Shipyard
“Such a blemish, laced with a communist chuckle, was the liquidation of the Gdańsk Shipyard. A person like me, coming from the other side of Poland, raised there, raised on the legend, the great myth of ‘Solidarity,’ arrives in Gdańsk and in the place where this temple, this cradle of ‘Solidarity’ stands, sees weeds and rubble. Isn’t this also a symbol of this changing Poland, that not every change was a healing, that some were illnesses. We must finally cure all these illnesses today, after so many years. If someone today asks what Poland means, I will say it loudly. I want Poland to be precisely solidarity. Steadfastly, calmly moving into the future, building justice, being together and united. How incredibly important this is so that we can have a strong state. So that one can calmly work in this state, so that one can calmly raise children. Where were the opponents of the current government, the protesters, supposedly defending the constitution, when there was no help for families, when pauperization was increasing, and when unemployment was over 10%? Where were they then? Where were they when the Gdańsk Shipyard was being liquidated? Did they think everything was in order then?” – said Andrzej Duda during a mass in St. Brigid's Basilica in Gdańsk.

Piotr Duda: We Don't Need to Be Liked by Anyone, We Do What We Must

- Lech Wałęsa had the chance to become a mentor, he had the chance to stand in the middle, he could have admonished both the chairman of 'Solidarity' and the party leaders. I asked him then to stand up for us when the liberal government was in power, a government that was actually destroying Polish workers. Where else could I have gone if not to a fellow worker who also understood these employee problems. You know what President Wałęsa's opinion was – that Duda and the whole of 'Solidarity' should be suppressed. It's unfortunate, but true – said Piotr Duda in an interview with Krzysztof Ziemiec on TVP Info's 'Gość Wiadomości' program.

- When they tell us that we are political or partisan, Mr. Editor, do you know who says that? Those who rode into politics on the back of 'Solidarity'. That was fine then, wasn't it? Now they say the union is partisan. It is not. We are an Independent Self-Governing Trade Union, and we don't need to be liked by anyone, we do what we must – Duda added.

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

Ardanowski is actually the Minister for the Polish People's Party. He deals with my party more than with rural Poland and agriculture.
“Minister Ardanowski, who serves as the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, or perhaps the Minister for the Polish People's Party (PSL) in reality. He deals with my party more than with rural Poland and agriculture. He appears in television studios more often than in the countryside. I have recently visited Lesser Poland, Greater Poland, Kuyavia, Pomerania, Warmian-Masurian, and Podlasie. The Minister is a storyteller. Previously, we had a sleeper. Now we have a storyteller minister,” said the leader of the Polish People's Party, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, on TVN24's "Fakty po Faktach".
