Today's State of Play
-- MORAWIECKI: I'M GOING ON ANOTHER TOUR ACROSS POLAND, MÜLLER: I SIGNED UP FOR PIS, NOT MR. MATECKI'S PARTY - 300LIVE: https://300polityka.pl/pl/live/2026-07-24
-- MINISTRY OF SPECIAL CARE FOR THE SOUTHERN HOSPITAL. THEY RECEIVED MONEY FOR THE IN VITRO PROGRAM DESPITE LACKING EQUIPMENT - MAGDA ROSZKOWSKA IN GW: “In May 2024, the Southern Hospital opened a Medically Assisted Reproduction Center. Thanks to this, the facility received over PLN 4 million for in vitro procedures, despite not having the required equipment.”

-- DONALD TUSK HAS NEVER BEEN SO ALONE AS HE IS NOW - MICHAŁ KOLANKO IN RZ: “Donald Tusk has never been so alone as he is now – especially when it comes to healthcare matters. A year ago, when Minister Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda became head of the health ministry, replacing Civic Platform deputy leader Izabela Leszczyna, it was clear to everyone that it was the Prime Minister's own idea. Donald Tusk – as Szymon Hołownia suggested in a political podcast on Polsat in the spring – doesn't really listen to anyone from his inner circle. He has, of course, his close, hermetic group of advisors, but in practice, he relies only on his own judgment. Therefore, discussions about who is in Donald Tusk's entourage are not that important.”
-- IS THIS ENOUGH TO REGAIN GOVERNMENT APPROVAL RATINGS? - FURTHER FROM KOLANKO IN RZ: “Within the government and the coalition, there are indeed discussions about serious ideas that are meant to appeal to voters. However, the direction to give the entire coalition a better chance of retaining power in 2027 must be decided by the Prime Minister. It's not hard to guess – also from public declarations, such as recent ones by Tusk himself and Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz – that this concerns the tax-free allowance and the second tax bracket. Will this be enough to boost the government's approval ratings? Will Tusk decide on a more significant reconstruction in the autumn? No one knows for sure today, because politics at every level is enormously unpredictable.”

-- I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY SUCCESSIVE GOVERNMENTS ABANDON BUILDING HOUSING FOR POLES, AND THE CURRENT ONE WENT TO WAR TO DEFEND SHORT-TERM RENTALS - ESTERA FLIEGER IN RZ: “I don't understand why successive governments in Poland give up on building housing for Poles, and the current one went to war to defend short-term rentals. Good housing architecture could be a success story, a developmental lever for the country. Michał Wojtczuk had a great conversation with Piotr Sawicki in the Warsaw edition of 'Wyborcza': referring to the example of Paris, the architect and urban planner talks to the journalist about why the state must build rental housing and how it can do it. We can debate the Second Polish Republic for a long time, but it left us, among other things, the WSM Żoliborz and the Józef Montwiłł-Mirecki Estate in Łódź. We have endless concrete blocks, urban sprawl – all this mess.”

-- IN A POTENTIAL FUTURE COALITION WITH KONFEDERACJA, KACZYŃSKI WILL BE THEIR PETITIONER. AND HE DEFINITELY WON'T BE APPOINTING THE PRIME MINISTER - AGNIESZKA KUBLIK IN GW: “17.7% for PiS means that in a potential future coalition with Konfederacja, Kaczyński will be their petitioner. And he definitely won't be appointing the Prime Minister. This means that the strategy with Przemysław Czarnek, calling him the future Prime Minister, was a huge mistake. Kaczyński, in this way, showed contempt for his potential future coalition partners, considering that over a year before the elections, he decided that he would dictate the terms and, above all, anoint the coalition's head of government.”

-- IF JAROSŁAW KACZYŃSKI REMOVES MATEUSZ MORAWIECKI FROM THE PARTY, SOONER OR LATER HE WILL END UP UNDER THE GUARDIANSHIP OF KAROL NAWROCKI - WITOLD GŁOWACKI IN OKO.PRESS: “If Jarosław Kaczyński removes Mateusz Morawiecki from the party, sooner or later he will end up under the guardianship of Karol Nawrocki. He will be the biggest beneficiary of PiS transforming into a party of epigones of the early era of right-wing populism.”
-- IT IS NOT EXCLUDED THAT JAROSŁAW KACZYŃSKI MAY COMMIT THE GREATEST POLITICAL MISTAKE, BELIEVING HE IS CUTTING OUT A TUMOR FROM PIS, BUT IN REALITY, HE IS TEARING THE PARTY'S HEART OUT - FURTHER FROM GŁOWACKI IN OKO: “It is not excluded that Jarosław Kaczyński may commit perhaps the greatest political mistake in his entire political biography and indeed remove Mateusz Morawiecki and his people from the party. For Morawiecki, this situation will mean huge risk and a game requiring very high political skill, but potentially offering a significant reward in the future. For Kaczyński, however, it will be a catastrophe that could make the founder of Law and Justice also the gravedigger of the party.”

-- ABANDONING MORAWIECKI NOW IS SIMPLY NOT WORTH IT: IT'S BETTER TO TAKE A RISK WITH HIM THAN TO COUNT ON THE MERCIFUL SCRAPS FROM THE MASŁARZE FRACTION - MICHAŁ DANIELEWSKI ON TYGODNIK POLITYKA PORTAL: “Any PiS politician who can count will easily conclude that in the next Sejm, the benches of Law and Justice will shrink by at least 50-60 MPs. Therefore, the battle for a good spot on the list and campaign funds in constituencies will be fiercer than ever before. It is also easy to predict that priority spots will be reserved for the dominant faction, i.e., people loyal to Przemysław Czarnek and Jacek Sasin from the beginning. This means that abandoning Morawiecki now is simply not worth it: it's better to take a risk with him than to count on merciful scraps from the maslarze faction. This saga will continue, Kaczyński will certainly not expel them quickly, hoping that as many of Morawiecki's 'scouts' as possible will switch to his 'force.' But we know the punchline: PiS has split and will not re-unite. The only question remaining is the scale of the split.”

-- THE COLLAPSE OF PIS MAY SUFFOCATE DONALD TUSK - PRZEMYSŁAW SZUBARTOWICZ IN INTERIA: “The collapse of Law and Justice – regardless of the form it takes and the declarations made today by the leaders of both factions – will have far-reaching consequences for the Polish political scene. Not only on the right. If Jarosław Kaczyński's formation shrinks to another party with a dozen-plus percent support, Donald Tusk will lose his polarizing pole, and this may start to suffocate him and force a change in political strategy.”
